This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit chadcrouch.substack.comI've been doing a lot of writing about Forest Park, here in Portland, Oregon, so I decided not to double up this week. In fact, I'm putting a pause on the Wildwood Trail Sound & Vision series, to pick it back up later this year, when the photos I took match the season better. The environmental audio for today's release was captured at Ancient Forest Preserve, a non-contiguous 27-acre chunk of Forest Park floating about two miles to the northwest of the 5200 acre park proper; an island outpost of old-growth, managed by the Forest Park Conservancy with little fanfare. Private forest lands surround it on two sides, while the Metro-owned Burlington Creek Forest fans out like an apron beneath it, providing public access. This is what it looks like from above:Recorded last December, this soundscape is quite delicate. Small water sounds are magnified and cave-like. Allow me to explain: Burlington Creek flows through this forest, entering a culvert beneath a gravel road at its eastern boundary. My microphones were just within in earshot of that culvert, a 6' diameter pipe, which had an amplifying effect on the water trickling through. The stereo field captures both the foreground creek sound as well as the distant culvert undertones. I tried to select instrument voices that blended well with this constellation of little sounds. Droplet synths, hammered dulcimer-esque synths, banjo, pan drum... Washy sounds and sparkly sounds.Chestnut-backed Chickadees, Red-breasted Nuthatches, and Ruby-crowned Kinglets busily forage in the mild December evening light. Geese fly overhead. And, there's a mammal or two as well. Possibly deer. Possibly a very quiet human. A mystery.Ancient forest suite has a squiggly horseshoe trail nearly looping back to itself. I made a leisurely circuit while leaving my recording gear to soak up the creek sound. I didn't expect to see anyone else in the fading light. What a memorable evening; what a charmed place. Thanks for revisiting it with me. Ancient Forest Suite is available under the artist name Listening Spot on all streaming platforms Friday, May 16th.

Harriet is joined live from Westminster by the New Statesman's Tim Dalton and from our Westminster Studio by the Telegraph's Siobhan Connery, who give live reaction to the forthcoming general election - why did Rishi call it, how's it going to play out, and what does this mean for 2029? Harriet and Producer Martin also recognise a Hot & Spicy Takeaway of the Week from Eshaan Akbar about the state of Palestine, although lots of people wouldn't. We have a live show coming up on Thursday the 20th June at the Museum of Comedy, we would love to see you there: tickets. Since when is change, wishy-washy, bad? Since childhood, societal conditioned has told us that we should decide what we want to do when we grow up, and stick to that one thing. Our grandparents did it, our parents did it, but I don't think that's where we're going anymore. I don't think that that's the life that we're supposed to live right now. I don't think we're supposed to do the same thing forever and ever and ever, amen. So if change is calling you, permission granted to make the change, whether it's your Instagram handle, closing your first Facebook group baby of 1,733 people (yes, really), or changing the name of your podcast… again. Which brings me to…Welcome to the Nichole Joy Show. I have known for some time that this change was coming and I've been putting it off until finally, it just felt like the time was correct. And as we're heading into spring, which is a time of rebirth, I believe that this is what we're supposed to do. We're supposed to evolve, we're supposed to change. So yes, the podcast is changing her name again. From Doulas Going Digital in 2019, to Birth Your Online Business in 2022, and now to the Nichole Joy Show. In the coming episodes you can expect to learn and hear through my lens about topics including but not limited to: motherhood, relationship with yourself, relationship with others, learning how to love the shit out of your body, holistic -ish wellness, metaphysical things, spirituality, human design, astrology, and a whole, whole lot more. Having said all of that, allow me to reintroduce myself. I'm Nichole Joy, I'm the host of the Nichole Joy Show. I'm the author of Just Start, the audiobook. I'm a guide in business and in life. I'm a mother to three little people. I'm a 90s RnB fanatic. I'm a big fan of healing and deconditioning in every area of life and rewriting our experiences. It's very nice to meet you. I look forward to continuing to build our relationship together and learning with each other! Let's Connect: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nichole_joy__/

**IMPORTANT NOTE** - we experienced some issues with audio during this recording and apologise for any interrupted listening this causes. This week we're joined by current York City Knights rugby league player, Danny Washbrook. Washy talks to us about both of his spells with hometown club, Hull FC, despite starting his RL scholarship at Hull KR. In part two, the versatile utility player goes on to discuss how moving to Wakefield in 2012 helped him develop as a player and group leader, and how his experience of more than 200 first grade games has helped nurture the young talent at Wakefield. Danny explains how he gained the nickname 'Trump' and reveals to Set Restart how in his opinion, he singlehandedly won Hull FC that illustrious, first-ever Challenge Cup Final victory at Wembley. 'Washy wins the cup for FC in 2016' is an entertaining listen - so long as you concentrate between the interference!!

Maybe you hear this too often from your team: "You never listen to what we have to say." No. You don't want to be that type of leader. Because, you'll only chase away the sharpest, most creative minds. At the same time, you can't take in everyone's ideas, all of the time, or your vision will always be "under construction" and won't ever make it out of the garage. Join Michael and Jim in the 25th episode of the Two Are Gathered Leadership Podcast to get their unique insights in how to be both a great listener, and a decisive leader.

Deuteronomy 5:1-29Conviction is the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit! He it is that comes to prove the guilty in his sin to the end that he might turn from his sin and in so turning to lay hold on the Lord Jesus Christ by faith. Conviction is an awesome thing, a terrifying thing, a painful thing, a sobering thing, an uncomfortable thing, a humbling thing, and a shameful thing. It is here, where so many professions are made by God's people - promises to turn over a new leaf, to forsake a particular sin, to go on in more serious endeavor in the Christian walk. Yet, as we know, conviction does not abide forever!! Sadly for many, when true conviction fades, their well-meaning professions fade with it!! Brethren, this ought not to be!!This message challenges the believer to lay hold on God by faith, to do what one said in the heat of conviction and to make good those broken professions!!
This week we head back to Washy where we pin our hopes on finding the pits, after we singularly failed to do so over in Canwick. Here, Jonny reveals he's riding a girl's bike and wearing his wife's tights, while Paul relives a childhood encounter with nettles and in doing so gives up the chance of winning £100 from Harry Hill. Back in the studio, we hear some memories of the area courtesy of the Spires & Steeples project, and we also ponder the future of Lincoln with some of your Facebook comments. All this, plus Tref in fine voice and another round of A Question of Lincoln.
This week we head out for the first of two visits to the village of Washingborough where Paul discovers once and for all his status on the programme at the hands of Chris DeBurgh, and we are alarmed by the number of boy racers of all ages. Meanwhile, moral vacuum Jonny goes poking his nose into tiny doorways and relives a hangover.
