Who doesn't love a great God story, am I right? I know I do. As a friend of mine often says: "I'm just medieval enough to believe that God actually does stuff like this!" Another friend describes the manifest movement of God among us as the "whammo!" of God. Yes to all those things. I've experienced them, I hunger after them. I love it when God moves "in power". And yet…. (you had to know there was an "and yet" coming)What's it all about, really? I know some of us remember the 90s. I remember being ring-side for the Toronto blessing. That whole season felt like there was almost a kind of fountainhead of God's power, bursting up through the floorboards of what was then the Toronto Airport Vineyard. Boom! Whammo!I remember thinking something like "wow, this is favour, God must really like us right now". But you know what? The longer I've walked with Jesus, the less and less I'm convinced that those encounters were quite what I thought they were. I used to think they were signs that God was really happy with us. A sort of proof that we were in the center of God's will. I don't think that way anymore. Now, I believe that signs and wonders are a lot more than that. I believe there are seasons where we need them like we need bread and water. They are provisions on the long journey towards teleios (perfection/maturity). So do they function as well of proofs that God is happy with us, happy with the prayers we're praying and the lives we're living? Well…. let's see what the experience of Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness have to say about it.

Your support of any amount is needed and very much appreciated. Find out how by clicking here. Thoughts Elihu talks of how he is frightened of the awesome power of God that he sees in thunder and lightening. If you have ever been in a storm like Elihu is talking about, it is truly awe-inspiring.  I am a southern California native. I've been here almost all of my life, except for two years, when I was seven and eight years old. We rarely have thunderstorms here, and when we do, they are nothing like the ones I have seen in other parts of the country. Here, they rarely last for more than a few minutes. They don't go on and on with lightening flashes coming from all around. My son, Tim and his wife Val are living in Florida now, about 20 minutes southwest of Disney World. A couple months ago he made a video call from his phone while they were out shopping. A thunderstorm had already been going for about a half and hour, a nd the rain was just pouring down in buckets, with thunder and lightening happening probably two or three times a minute. Maybe more. It was crazy. We stayed on the call for about a half hour, and it was still going when we ended the call. We do not get that kind of weather here.  My point is, even if we did, seeing that kind of display is only a faint shadow of the power of God. Think of it this way. I don't know if God used a Big Bang to bring the universe into existence or if it all just appeared the way it is, by His Word. It doesn't really matter to me. But here's the thing. Scientists say that the universe seems to be expanding in all directions, and they say it's because of the explosion that they call the big bang. Imagine the power! An explosion that is still in motion after all those years! And what was the cause of it? God's Word. God said, "Let there be...." and WHAMMO! it happened. And it is still going. Yes, God's power is somethin' else. And yes, we should have a respect for His power, and a fear, even, if we do not have a relationship with Him. But get a hold of this concept. Even with all of this power, this God with infinite power and infinite knowledge, this God who is everywhere at once, who is outside of time and space, wants so much to have a relationship with us that He gave all of that up to inhabit a human body for 33 years and then suffer an excruciating death, and glorious resurrection in order to pay the price for our sin, so that we could be in relationship with Him. If He would do that, then I don't fear him like Elihu did. I worship Him. I adore Him. I owe everything to Him. And I look forward to the day when I see Him face to face, when I have no doubt that I will fall on my knees at His presence.  Some of my favorite chapters in the entire Bible are Job 38-41, when God finally responds to Job. I’ll talk more about them in our next two visits to the book of Job.

Here's your host, Dave Woodward. Everybody. Welcome back this day Speaker 2:     00:18         Woodward, I'm your host. This is funnel hacker radio and you guys are in for a real treat today. I have the op team having Keith snow, chef Keith snow on the show today and Keith is a guy, has been crushing it as a chef for years and years and he's had his own TV show. He's got his own products and everything else, but he's been just trying to figure out the best way of getting things online as far as or as far as ingredients and spices and everything else, and I talk to you about this funnel he's got that's going crazy, but most importantly some of the cool stuff that you're going to learn not only about funnels, but also about building your own survival pantry and some of the other cool stuff that he's doing in his business. So Keith, welcome to the show. Speaker 3:     00:58         Hey Dave. Thanks for having me. Speaker 2:     01:00         I'm so happy. So happy to have you write a little bit of an issue last time on the record is we're gonna make sure this one works. So what I want to do, if you don't mind, is tell people a little bit about this whole idea as far as harvest eating. What is it that, what's this whole harvest eating thing you've got? What is your funnel? How's it work? Speaker 3:     01:17         Sure. Well, harvest. Anything was a brand that I started back in 2005 and that was right when the farm to table movement started happening. Everybody was still eating some low carb food. Then Atkins Diet and all that. But I was on the forefront with slow food international and doing um, farm to table cuisine. So I put up a website I just left. I'm a big job out in Colorado as executive chef of a ski resort. So I started researching and cooking and doing a lot of stuff in regards to the farm to table movement. I was a little ahead of time because it didn't really start to hit until about 2009. But throughout that period, like you mentioned, that had, um, tv shows and eventually I had my own cookbook still on Amazon. It's the harvest ddn cookbook. During that time I got into selling some products, some spices and sauces. And it's, uh, it's been just a lot of fun since that. Okay. Speaker 2:     02:18         What has been on your own site? You've got a shopify store. I think we're on a, in fact one of our buddies over at Amazon selling machine or I guess amazing selling machine now. A correct things there. Uh, did a podcast interview with you awhile back and recommended you guys. You take a look at click funnels. So you've only been on the platform here for just about a month, six weeks or so. I want to tell people a little bit about where you were before and what's happened in the last six weeks. Speaker 3:     02:45         Sure. Well, I didn't want to take my products into traditional retail where they've always been in the past and I had hooked up with, you know, consultants and a guy who helps people with Amazon stores Speaker 3:     02:59         and we, we were talking back in 2015 and he helped me get into Amazon and then he asked me recently to come on the show again and I did and he mentioned something that I guess was pretty profound. He's like, have you ever heard free plus shipping offer? And of course I'd never heard of a free plus shipping offer. It No. Didn't know what he was talking about. And then, um, he said, yeah, it gives people a chance to try your product to get a new customer. Um, you know, you have to give the product away, but they cover the shipping, shipping and handling. It's a great way to build your list because my product cells, the repeat sales and the lifetime value of the customer is very, very strong. So you said you need to get on click funnels. And of course I'd never heard of click funnels either. Speaker 3:     03:43         Um, I thought a funnel was something you used to put oil in the car, but he said no, it's a, it's an internet thing and you can sell stuff and it works really well and it's different from a website. So anyway, while I was on the call with them, they promised to help me set it up and I'm, they said a visit click funnels and it took me, I don't know, week or so to um, I got the free trial, quick funnels and started messing around and they helped me with some of the steps inside. Um, but through that time I realized that you guys have just amazing support. I use all kinds of software as a service programs from autoresponders to web hosts, shopify, all these different things that I use. Okay. Kill you when you have a problem. It takes a day or so to get any a help. Speaker 3:     04:28         But with quick funnels, even though it can be a touch complicated in the beginning, there's such amazing support and I'm talking to support no two, three times a week and those guys are amazing. Creating videos for me and helping me. And I launched the first funnel and it was this free plus shipping offer and it's sitting right now@awebsitecalledtryharvesteating.com and people can get a sample of one of our best selling spices and just pay for shipping. And then I had built a, a, an upsell offer for six jars, put it out there and just sent an email to my customer list and Whammo it started that day and that was like a mid June and I've been getting sales ever since. And what I'm noticing is that even though I give away the, the free jar, I'm getting a lot of people taking the upgrade. I've made a couple of hundred new customers since then and just the average ticket bigger then what I see it on shopify, like people will go there and they'll buy one or two jars. But I'm, I'm getting people, I'm buying the one and then buying six and then coming back and going right back to the bottle and taking another sample and buying six. So it's been a pretty cool Speaker 2:     05:46         good. I appreciate you sending me the spices. We've tried them over the weekend. Absolutely amazing. These are probably the best biases I've ever tasted. I can see why you've got such a, I think you told me last time you in like the 90, 92, 93 percent reorder rate, some crazy number like that. Yeah. Speaker 3:     06:04         It's insane. And people, people through the years, I've had customers since 2017, um, that are buying these in. They do not want to be without them and they just, Ah, they just love him. So that's why I thought, you know what, um, if I can get them into more peoples' hands without losing too much money by doing this free plus shipping offer, Speaker 3:     06:25         I'm going to be creating a lot more customers too. Market to, and to stay in touch with and uh, so far. Okay. It just works, you know, when you're, when you're doing it on Amazon, like I was, I mean, I have no control over the customer. I really can't email the customer. I don't know. I'm not allowed to send them off the site. So controlling the, uh, the, you know, the sales process and using something like click funnels, it's just a smart way to go and, and the software is really easy to use when you're building pages. I mean there's so many templates and it's drag and drop and I've used a lot of different, you know, squarespace wordpress, I mean, you name it, I've used it, but this is very easy to get the job done. Speaker 2:     07:08         Well, I appreciate your kind words, your testimonial. I want to talk more about your funnel right now and that is to try harvest eating.com. Highly recommend you guys go get these for one. Spices are absolutely amazing. I think you should fit not only the three northern Italian spice that you get by the way you mentioned as far as why. Why Italian spice? Why is that the first one instead of one of your barbecue spices or other things? Speaker 3:     07:31         Well, you know what I mean, I first started with that one back on June twelfth and that one really great and then people were contacting me on. I may have been a lot of the same people who knows, but people were contacting me on facebook saying, we want to try your steak seasoning, we want to try your Montana steak seasoning. I have three or four steak seasoning. So I then created a situation where people could choose one of three and uh, so they could go in there, they get a free spice and they just pick the one that they want. And that was working well too. Speaker 2:     08:03         Okay. Speaker 3:     08:03         But to be completely honest with you, I, I'm going to start having Amazon fulfill the, the free plus offers for me. I'm connecting my shopify store so that way it's okay. Mean when you get 30 orders in a day, all of a sudden you realize, wow, you're, you're a, you're in the shipping business. I want to be like Trey Lewellen, but I don't want to be a having a bunch of people hired for shipping. So what I've just done is I sent in a bunch of inventory to Amazon and then once they actually just got an email, they're checking it in today. Once it's all checked in, change the funnel to where the products are already built, I'll change it so people can pick up the one they want. But um, they were all going, you know, pretty equally. A lot of people are very familiar with. They like mine. Speaker 2:     08:54         I love. So the cool thing is, again, it's to ship, it's the two step order form, shipping, address and information on the front end. You didn't go to your range and you pay for the shipping a payment. There's an order form bump. It's a real low order form bump. It's like what was three 99, four 99 for the, uh, the video, Speaker 3:     09:14         I think it's three 99 for a series of right now it's 10 videos and I've got more of them than I'm editing, showing people how to use the spices because people through the years emailed me countless time. How do I use them, how do I use them? And I just, you know, I've got three, four decades of. I started cooking when I was 14 in restaurant. I'm 51 now, so I've been at the game a long time and I just thought, I mean, you put the spices on, you cook it, what is it? What do you need a recipe for? Why do you need instructions? But okay, you know, that's just me being an idiot because people, people need help with that. So I said, all right, that'll be my order bump. And I shot eight videos, edited those [inaudible] I do a lot of videos and then I um, started putting those for the order bump and a ton of people that have been taking them. Speaker 2:     10:04         No, I think it's great. I'm noticing basically even your free plus shipping prices. Six 99 even you're going to find there's not much difference. Twenty six, 99 and 99. I'd probably increased that to seven 99. Get an extra buck on the front end. Also on the three 99 on the video, how to bundle. I would, I would totally split test out on a much higher price point. Your take rate, I think you said is way above 40 percent on the video, right? Speaker 3:     10:29         Yeah. I think it's like 42 percent. Speaker 2:     10:32         That's honestly I would see about increasing that price point split, test that and see if you can get that into the eight, nine, $10 range, especially if it's you're getting 10 different videos or stuff about the spices and just play around with that. The cool thing is you go from there to the order form after the order form bump, the Oto is six of the spices and your take rate on that was phenomenal and I think the main thing I want people, you guys are listening to this realize that it's all a matter of split testing these things. Every price point and dollars and things they change and realize. You have to kind of go into this the very beginning saying, am I trying to get customers or am I trying to get buyers? I'm sorry, I'm trying to get just people are looking lucky. Loser. I really want buyers. That's the best thing about free plus shipping offers. You get that first dollar and that first dollar is the most important dollar because once they get that, then they'll continue to spend more and more and more with you. Obviously, Keith, you been in that situation to where you're seeing people are spending repeat dollars. Do you have a continuity offer on this? Speaker 3:     11:32         No, I am thinking about creating a continuity offer. When we talk about my online course, we'll talk about some continuity, but yes, planning on. I'm moving over a lot of my content to click funnels and then creating membership as part of this and letting them take that as an order bump to because there's a lot of that I don't have published. Yes. Dozens and dozens and dozens of videos and recipes that are very popular. So I'll probably create a continuity offer hopper with that. Um, yeah, I mean it's exciting looking at, um, my upsell is about 18 to 20 percent, 45 and a half percent on the order bump, so I think people would, um, go into some continuity as well. Speaker 2:     12:16         No, I think it's fantastic. So again, we're listening to understand the importance of getting someone. There's a big difference. A lot of people just always feel like they have to start with the lead magnet. There's nothing better than starting with someone actually paying you money. So start with that. I love what you've done on this aspect here. I would definitely keep that. Would take a look as far as increasing your prices. Uh, you're a premium product anyways. People are going to have any problem paying a little bit more for that kind of stuff. And then what I want to talk to you now about it. So now you've got this taste, this flavor for clickfunnels. You've gone ahead and you've started off with the free plus shipping product. You now have moved into a membership site. Tell people about what you're doing on the membership side. Speaker 3:     12:52         Sure. Well, I've got a, um, an online course. It's called food storage storage.com. And people can go there and they get a seven day free trial and after that it's $97 a year. And what the course is, oh, there's a lot of people that store food for emergencies for whatever zombies coming, but there's millions of people that store rice, beans, wheat, oats, you can buy the stuff in bulk. And then there's tons of people that are looking to lower their grocery bill. So I created this course, food storage fees. And what it does is it helps people, first of all, understand why everybody's pantry should be filled with food. Particularly if you have children. There's really no excuse not having food in there in case you know there's a power outage, a snow storm and ice storm or hurricane, whatever it might be. Hopefully we don't see a 2008 again, but a job loss. It could be an injury or anything like that can cause people a lot of stress. And if you've got a pantry full of food, the number one thing mess up is taken care of. It's insurance that you can eat. So I, I take people through why they need to store food, which foods to store. And then to date there's close to 60 videos showing people how to cook. Speaker 3:     14:09         Amazing foods, amazing recipes with very inexpensive food like rice and beans and wheat and oats and that has been a very successful course for me. Um, and people go on there and I can see who logs in and they log in all the time and they're just using the recipes and it's just been a great ride of course, but it's always been over@teachable.com and that's a pretty good service. But there's not a lot of, you know, like I called them up and said, hey, uh, what if somebody, you know, a lot of people aren't going to just spend $97, but can I get their email address? And then they said, yeah, you can, you can go to Zapier and you can create a zap and input this and you got to put in custom css code and you've got to call someone checklist Slovakia to program it and you know, all this kind of garbage. And in the end, um, there was just no easy way to collect email addresses. And I just find a lot of limitations on the, um, on the platform as far as the selling side, delivering the course materials quite well. So this is why after I saw the spice funnel taking off and saw how easy it was, I knew that I needed to build the, um, the, the selling effort through click funnels. So now that Speaker 3:     15:25         the chorus is sitting there at food storage fees that come with the free trial and um, you know, that's continuity there. It's $97 a year and there is just an incredible amount of video material for people to use. And you know, this course was originally designed for, um, you know, preppers and homesteaders and folks that store who, but what we found through the last couple years is that a lot of folks like moms that are looking to save money and families, um, that want to get out of debt. The whole Dave Ramsey crowd, uh, they have found the course and they use it. And I mean, I'm telling you right now, your buddies, if you need an extra $500 a month sitting in your pantry right now and I can guarantee you that if you eat at home or if you eat out and you start cooking at home and using the foods that are in this course, you will save a lot of money. And I, and I witnessed it for myself and we didn't suffer. And that was the important thing is the family loved it, the kids loved it. And they're exciting foods that I have in there. I mean, there's a lot of them. Speaker 2:     16:28         Ethnic Speaker 3:     16:29         cuisine. I'm looking inside the course. Speaker 2:     16:33         I'm just going to give you a couple of things. I mean to interrupt you on this one. So I grew up is that I'm a member of the church. Jesus Christ, Latter Day saints frequently knows Mormons. And so I, we've always been counseled to safe store food, you know, your supply of food and all this kind of stuff. And I remember growing up and having like dried milk, powdered milk was like the worst thing in the world. It was like just terrible, terrible, and I remember seeing all this stuff and I've even, I've got tons of food we've restored and typically it's been this freeze dried stuff that we bought on this. I bought from some, some supplier online and we never ever use it and so I was going through this thing. I'm actually looking here. You've got spiced corn pudding, a Thai fried rice, potato cakes, Korean barbecue beef. Then it's in Chili with beans, salt, cod potato cakes. I'm going, I never had any of that kind of stuff at all when we're looking at. Speaker 3:     17:25         Right. Speaker 2:     17:26         And I can guarantee that freeze dried stuff doesn't taste even half as good as these pictures look. So I'm really kind of impressed as far as what you've done. But I want to find out from, from a, from a funnel standpoint, if a person comes in on the seven day free trial, how many of them are actually, uh, taking the $97 per your membership? Speaker 3:     17:46         Well, to be honest, I don't have a lot of data because I really just. I'm just put it up. I mean, it's only been up a day or so and I have not marketed to it yet, so I don't have a lot of data Speaker 2:     17:57         that's not a problem. I think the great thing about, and really what I hope people who are listening will take away his. You're doing what we refer to as far as funnel stacking, where you've found one funnel on the front end, which is your free plus shipping offer. You're getting customers and your clients over there. You're making money on, you're acquiring these customers really at a profit and then you're turning around and introduce them, how to actually consume what you just sent them, which is just a brilliant model and I think it's fantastic. It's so you take a look who's ever listened to realized that one of the best things to do to really enhance it from a funnel stack is whatever product you're offering on the front end, you try to find some product they can purchase. They will actually teach them how to consume what they just purchased. It's been great for us. If you take a look at click funnels, we did the exact same thing with funnel Fridays where we go ahead and our funnel Fridays every single week, Jim Edwards and Russell get on and basically teach people, build a funnel for people on exactly how to use click funnels. You're doing it and they're actually paying you for it. So congrats. I think that's awesome. Speaker 3:     18:59         Yeah, no, I couldn't agree more and I'm, I'm a person that, you know, when those guys told me about click funnels, I immediately went and got Russell's book and read through it and um, I wanted to see exactly how you guys run your funnels and I've got to click funnels. Tee shirts. Alright. A tee shirt. The other day I went to a party and I had on like quickly tee shirts and uh, yeah, I wasn't as in your net. Well you're not in Salt Lake City, Utah and Idaho, but I was up in Salt Lake City and this guy, I walked in and he goes, oh, you're a click funnel. What's that? It was pretty interesting, but that's neat how you guys, um, how you brand yourself. Okay. Yeah, Speaker 3:     19:41         yeah, I'm finding that with the spices this funnel is giving, giving me a lot more control over the customer and it's allowing me to suggest different things and kind of keeping them, I want them to say no before they leave and this is a great way to do it. So I've got a feeling that the food storage course is going to do real well here and if people go to food storage fees.com, they can get a good idea of what's in there because there's quite a few videos that are just on the sales page and those are full length videos they can watch. But it's interesting and this has been something that, uh, that the course has done really well, particularly when I do an interview. Like I've done some pretty big radio interviews and um, you know, it's really, it's really produced. So I'm very hopeful that I can build it up and I think this is the way to do it with. Speaker 2:     20:35         Well, I appreciate that. Well, we look forward to following up with you probably in a year or so. And Sienna, senior status. I love having people who are brand new to click funnels are just getting started and using this kind of case they will follow up in about a year, see kind of where things are, but for those you guys who are listening to understand, again, the whole idea here is make sure you, you realize the principal, you kind of funnel stack the great thing that keats been doing here as I mentioned earlier, as he's as one funnel, which is basically a free plus shipping offer, acquiring customers at a profit and then turning around and communicating directly with them and introducing them into way to consume their product through his a membership course. So take a look at, try harvest eating.com. The links will be down in the show notes and then also take a look@foodstoragefeast.com and take a look at that. You'll kind of see the funnels that he's using and how things are working for them and most importantly a applied to your own business. See how things are going there. Keith, as we get close to wrapping things up, any parting words? Speaker 3:     21:31         No, just um, I would advise people to, you know, if they have anything to sell, whether it be information or products, you know, stores are great, Amazon is great, but um, you know, if you're on Amazon and I know because I'm in the Amazon community, a lot of forums and facebook groups, they can drop you in a moment's notice and I know people that were $50,000 a month on Amazon one day, one day, the next day they have no income, so this is really smart way to do it and sure you can just do an online store, but this gives you a lot more control and your average ticket goes up. So I would definitely advise people to look into quick funnels and the cost of it and the support that you get it, you know, it's, it's a winter. So, Speaker 2:     22:16         so much. Keith, I appreciate it. Have a great day. Hey Dave, thanks a lot. Speaker 4:     22:21         Hey everybody. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to podcasts. Onward Nation

Good Morning – I’m Stephen Woessner, CEO of Predictive ROI and your host of Onward Nation. And welcome to Episode 690, which is this week’s solocast. Before we go behind-the-green-curtain of today’s topic...I want you to know how extremely grateful I am for your time – and I am also grateful that you have chosen this episode to be what you listen to – to study. Or, maybe you’re taking our podcast with you on your daily commute – or however the lessons we share make their way to you – please know – I am thankful we have become part of your day. Thank you. We all have the same 86,400 seconds to invest today...and the fact that you have chosen to invest a portion of your time in taking this journey with us means a great deal to me. So thank you, Onward Nation. For our time together today...I am going to step us through what I see as the four seasons each and every business owner needs to recognize in order to successfully navigate their company, employees, and clients through as part of the business’s natural life cycle. Every business experiences these seasons – no matter what industry and no matter how successful. And yes, there is some correlation between the seasons we will walk through during today’s discussion and some of the traditional growth models you may have studied in school like Growth-Share Matrix made popular by the Boston Consulting Group. This is the one with a quadrant – grid layout where a business needs to fit inside one of four boxes. One was labeled Cash Cow, one for Star, one for Question Mark, and one for Dogs. A business would be classified into one of the quadrants based on their growth rate and market share. If growth is high and market share was also high...the business would be a star. The opposite of the Star is the Dog quadrant. I like what the Boston Consulting Group did with the matrix. And it is ideally suited for large corporate entities operating in well-defined industries with easy to calculate market shares. That is not most business owners, Onward Nation. It doesn’t fit Predictive ROI and my guess is it doesn’t fit your company either. And in my opinion, business owners need a practical framework for connecting the seasons of their business into their thought leadership – into their point of view – and how these blend together to form cornerstone content that can be used to move any business forward. And also recognizing that there should be healthy period of rest in the business. I will also share some tactical next steps to consider while you and your team are working your way through each season. How you can continue to nurture and build your nation of true fans, how you can continually refine and clarify your point of view, and how you can prepare your business to move onward to reach that next level of success. Okay, let’s dive in. Ultimately, there are three main reasons why I wanted to share this with you this morning, Onward Nation. First...and you may have heard me talk about this before...but I am sick of all the “marketing hyperbole” I hear from digital marketing gurus, business coaches who have never run a business, and consultants who are promising you that their system – if only applied – can give you that coveted 7-figure business. You just need to download their thing, buy their course, or join their super expensive mastermind. These gurus are trying to entice you with their get rich quick promises of following their funnel blueprint or this email sequence – just apply this swipe file into your campaigns – and WHAMMO – you too can have a 7-figure business just like they do. Um, no thank you. Here’s the reality, Onward Nation... Of the 28.1 million businesses in the United States...only 4 percent of them ever reach the $1 million a year in sales. Yep, just 4 percent. With that said...there are certainly legit experts – those who have truly done it before. But the different is that a true thought leader has a fully transparent body of work that is easy to see. You can review and scrutinize their track record...and their content is true thought leadership versus a self-aggrandizing YouTube channel. You can easily see how they have built a business of their own and how they truly work in the trenches with others to help build a client’s company. Onward Nation, growing a company to $1 million in sales is a big deal – and if it is one of your goals – super awesome! But to get there...you need to remain cognizant of the fact that your business will go through a healthy process of seasons so you can stay focused and ready to deploy your precious resources at the right time – hence the importance of today’s discussion. Second...I want to help you set expectations on timeline because there is so much glitz and glam surrounding success today that it is really easy to fall into the trap that success can happen overnight. And even when we logically know and conceptually understand that success takes time and a whole lot of hard work – we can see a business or a celebrity and think, “Wow...how did that happen for them so fast?” Because we fit all about their behind-the-green-curtain backstory – we only see the flashy front of stage. Here...let me give you two quick examples. Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart are two of the biggest names in entertainment right now – and earners – in Hollywood. So they are great examples of the point I want to make. With Dwayne, aka The Rock, one of his first starring roles was a movie called The Scorpion King back in 2002...16 years ago, Onward Nation. And before that...he was a professional wrestler from 1996 to 2004. But...for the better part of 21 years, Dwayne Johnson has been perfecting his craft to the point that he was one of 2017’s highest paid actors earning $65 million. He has also built a nation of true fans, who flock to see his latest blockbuster when he shares snippets of the film in his daily posts with his 100 million Instagram followers. The Rock deserves every ounce of his success – it’s fun to watch from the outside looking in – and he is the furthest thing from an overnight success. He is now reaping the harvest of his 20 plus years of sowing. Or how about Kevin Hart? He has been perfecting his comedy craft since 2001. Kevin was cast as The Rock’s co-star in two recent movies, including the international sensation “Jumanji”. And not only did the starring roles represent success for Kevin Hart all by themselves...but...they also helped further expand his profile and fan base to where he is now breaking box office records with his current comedy tour entitled, “Irresponsible.” Kevin and his team sold an unprecedented 500,000 tickets during the first week of opening. And he now has 57 million Instagram followers. When I look at Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, I immediately want to know the behind-the-green-curtain of their success...their team...their systems...their practice sessions...the training...the preparation...and all of the hard work...night after night...all the doubt when they must have thought they wouldn’t “make it”. And yet they kept work through the seasons and they did it for decades. Because they knew that was the price that success required to be paid in order for them to get them to where they are now. How they persevered. How they ignored the naysayers. How they kept pushing. I respect that level of dedication to their craft and what they wanted to achieve – but interestingly – if I were to interview them for an Onward Nation episode – I suspect they would both say that as good as things are for them right now...they likely feel like they are just getting started. Both are legit business owners – not just on-screen talent – so watch what they are doing, Onward Nation, and how they are executing every day. It is mastery and discipline at work. Third...I wanted to walk you through the seasons so you can had a roadmap for building your business in a strategic and thoughtful way. A blueprint that helps you build a nation of true fans around your point-of-view, around what makes you unique, your thought leadership, and the value you and your team deliver for clients. Okay, so let’s dive into the four seasons that every business, and every business owner, needs to work through. Season 1: Get back to basics In my opinion, this first season is experienced when you need to ignite new growth in your business – and – when you have just reached that next level. Getting back to the basics, which I believe are re-grouping with your team, skills training, evaluating the resources on your current team and making additions or adjustments, revisiting your point-of-view, how your POV is driving what you earlier defined as your three uniques, and how both are driving your cornerstone content. As a quick aside, Onward Nation...if you want more detail on POV, three uniques, and how they blend to form your cornerstone content...just go back to Episodes 676 and 659. You will find some good step-by-step detail in both episodes. So if you just completed a successful business development campaign, launched a new product or service, attended a major trade show and rolled out something innovative – as a result – achieved that next level of your business you are likely now in Season 1. Versus...continuing to push and push in order to move to yet another level. Onward Nation, more companies go out of business from indigestion due to too much opportunity versus starvation and not having enough new business to keep them alive. So if you reached that next level – awesome. Take some time to celebrate and evaluate how you got there by asking yourself some key questions. Review how your team performed – and more specifically – what skill sets were critical to your success? And do you have enough capacity in that skill going forward? What value did you deliver to customers? What feedback did you receive from customers? What feedback did you receive from vendors? How many new customers did you take on – and why? How many customers did you lose – and why? What about your sales pipeline worked really well and what didn't? Did your pool of prospects grow and why? Did you social media ecosphere grow and why? Or...maybe the reverse is true. Your business has not reached a new level on the upside but instead has reached a new low. Well, the questions we just covered apply for your business, too. So no matter if you are coming off some massive growth – or some massive struggles – Season 1 is the reset. We all need a reset – to clear away all the clutter and to then focus on renewal and moving forward. It is part of the Law of the Harvest. Just think about that for a second. Say you are farmer and you just had a record harvest – more corn – more potatoes – more produce than you have every harvested from your fields in the history of your family working the soil for decades. You put new technology, new tools, and a new team into place the resulting yields we off the charts. But now the harvest is over. It is time to get back to the basics and prepare for next year’s harvest by working through the same evaluation process I just shared with you. Or, let’s say you’re the farmer again and you just had the worst yielding harvest ever in the history of your farm. What do you do? You get back to the basics and prepare for the next harvest and setting yourself and your team up for success during the next harvest period. Season 1 is critical to Season 4...it is the Law of the Harvest and it is alive and well on the family farm just as it is in your business. You cannot experience massive growth year after year without coming back to Season 1 and renewing...and getting ready for the next harvest. For example...at Predictive ROI...we recently experienced a leveling up...new clients...new teammates...a successful launch of our latest book, Profitable Podcasting – and thank you for all of your support, Onward Nation – I am so very grateful for your helping in making the book so successful...becoming a #1 Amazon.com best seller list in 18 hours was awesome. We had an excellent Season 4 harvest. And we are not done growing Predictive ROI – but we do need to take a brief pause and realize that we are now in Season 1 so that we can prepare for our next Season 4 harvest. So this week...Erik Jensen and I – my business partner at Predictive ROI – we met up in Austin, Texas – he flew in from Salt Lake City and I flew in from La Crosse, Wisconsin for five days of business development – meetings with several of our Predictive ROI clients and then Erik and I are also investing 2-1/2 days with our mastermind group that consists of other agencies owners – as part of the Agency Management Institute. The 12 owners in the mastermind all refer to our group as Velocity – and I absolutely love the owners in the group – and this is the perfect Season 1 activity for Predictive ROI...as we plan our next iteration of Seasons 2, 3, and 4. Season 2: Sow your seeds for long-term Let’s stay with the farmer example as we walk through the other seasons. In Season 2...again...no matter if you just reached a new level of growth in your business...a record harvest...or...you are grinding in order to rebuild...Season 2 is all about sowing. Season 2 is about generously sowing the right seeds, in the right amounts, and in the right areas in order for new growth to occur. According to the Law of the Harvest, we will only reap at the time of harvest what has been sown. So if we have not been generous in helping clients grow, helping our prospects learn and develop all without some hidden agenda, and to generously share our time with our teammates, then how can we expect that our harvest in Season 4 will be abundant? In addition, the Law of the Harvest also says that we will reap the same in kind as we sow. Or, to say that another way...you cannot share small tidbits of your knowledge with your prospects and then expect abundance at the time of harvest. You cannot give pennies and expect dollars at harvest. But also remember this...the Law of the Harvest also says that you will reap more at harvest than what you sow. So your generosity with customers, clients, teammates, vendors, and all of your other stakeholders during Season 2 will pay big dividends during your harvest. So if your business is struggling...should you be financially frugal during Season 2? Yes, absolutely! That is part of being a good steward. But what you should also do is to creatively find ways to share your wisdom and expertise with your clients and prospects – to sow seeds – to build your list – to share your thought leadership – to guest blog – to write that book you have been wanting to write and share the content for free with your clients as a sneak preview and special thank you. Build a rockin’ awesome Instagram account – follow Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart – and watch what they are doing – how they let their followers into their lives – they have pulled back the curtain – you can do the same thing with your prospects and clients. And yes, you don’t have 100 million followers – so what – you have the number of seeds you need for your next harvest. You just need to get out there and sow them. Season 2 is all about planting your flag – your POV in the hearts and minds of your customers and prospects...and you do that through sowing seeds – as many as you can – through your cornerstone content. You can do this...I believe in you, Onward Nation.   Season 3: Tend to the new growth If you have done the hard work of Season 1 – put the plans in place and have been diligent about sowing the right seeds and in the right amounts during Season 2...you will begin to see signs of new growth. New opportunities will begin to come your way. New prospects will invite you in to present your services, to share your story, and to discuss how you and your team might be able to add value to what they are trying to accomplish. You will start to meet prospects at trade shows who come up to you and say, “Hey, I have been listening to your podcast – or watching your YouTube channel – or reading your blog – or – I have been on your email list for a while now – and I really like some of the things you have been sharing and was hoping we would have an opportunity to meet at this show.” Or...how about this, “I knew I just had to attend your workshop because every time I turn around with a problem or crisis in my business – there you are – ready to be helpful.” Okay...how awesome is that, Onward Nation? And those are all signs of new growth. New opportunities that need to be nurtured – and when that begins to happen – you will know you are firmly planted in Season 3. It is time for you to water the seeds you have sown, get down on your hands and knees and pull the weeds, gently till the soil to let more air in on the roots, and to prune the growth you are now seeing. All of this hard work – getting into the trenches with your community – with your audience – with your nation of true fans is critical. It is the right thing to do in order to remain congruent with the person who just did all of the Season 2 sowing. And, you need to remain congruent with the Law of the Harvest. If you notice growth and don't water it...or pull the weeds...your new growth will dry out and die. But oftentimes, I see business owners do the hard work of Season 1 and Season 2 and then expect that the floodgates of the abundant harvest will now come flowing into their business – but that circumvents the law of the harvest. Nature doesn’t work that, way and you cannot expect that the natural laws that govern relationships will work that way either.   So respect the process. Season 3 must be followed if you want to have an abundant harvest in Season 4. Season 4: Harvest and reap what you sowed Okay...now Season 4 is here. It is time for your book launch, it is time for your product launch, it is time for you to roll out your new service offering, it is time for you to unveil your latest innovation to your sales team at your private event at the industry trade show – something you and your team have worked so hard to achieve...yes!!! It’s here...THE HARVEST. And if this is where you are at right now, Onward Nation – congratulations – please know – I am super happy for you. You didn’t move into Season 4 by accident. You didn’t wake up one day in Season 4 without some serious hard work – so virtual high five – I respect your effort and hope the abundance of your harvest overflows. Just like the farmer doesn’t wake up one day in early August and say to his team... “You know what I think we ought to do today – let’s go pick some corn!” And then they look out to a field without any corn – covered in weeds – not going to be a good harvest. But, if the farmer and his or her team have done all of the hard work in Seasons 1, 2, and 3...they should be ready for an abundance harvest. And they also know that as soon as all of the hard work of the harvest is complete...they will immediately move back into Season 1 because the preparation for next year’s harvest begins. So just like with the Law of the Harvest – the seasons your business experiences will follow a similar pattern. However, I also want to make sure I clarify that I am not suggesting that the seasons are an annual cycle for your business are they are when we are talking about growing corn. You may have an abundant harvest in Season 4...move into Season 1 for planning...and then move through Seasons 2 and 3 to prepare for the next harvest...all in a matter of a few short months. And for your business or the dynamics of your industry – that may be possible. Or, Seasons 1, 2, and 3 may take you a year or two to get through...especially if you are coming off a harvest that did not produce the results you wanted. You did not receive great feedback from customers. You realized that you might need to make some adjustments to your team to level up. You noticed some adjustments to your product or service to make sure it is properly aligned with the cornerstone content you are producing. Or, you have now realized how important it is to get clear on your POV, your three uniques, and why you should be sharing cornerstone content on a consistent basis to add value during Season 2 – sowing your seeds. Regardless of what season your business is currently in – please know – being aware of the Law of Harvest can help you move your business through the seasons – and onward to that next level. I wish you much success during your next harvest, Onward Nation. So with that said...I again want to say thank you. Thank you for being here and generously sharing your time and all of your feedback so that we can continue to get better each and every day. We will be back tomorrow with another helpful episode with Jeff Hyman as my guest. I know you will find the conversation with Jeff helpful because shares insights and the economics around recruiting rock stars for your team. You will not want to miss Jeff Hyman. Okay, Onward Nation – until then – onward with gusto!

This episode contains three segments: Move 9 Parole "Stare Into The Lights My Pretties" Anarcho-Syndicalist Organizing in Kosovo MOVE9 Parole First, there's the interview that Bursts held with Michael Davis Africa Jr., a member of the MOVE organization.  MOVE is a Philadelphia-based black liberation group founded by John Africa in 1972. The group lives communally. During the conversation, Michael Jr. talks about the case of the MOVE9, who were 9 members of that group who were arrested and accused of the killing of a police officer in 1978 in Philadelphia, a charge they each deny.  Officer James Ramp was killed following a year of the Philly PD blockading the house for a year under an eviction order and the police besieged the house on August 8th, 1978.  The MOVE 9 have been incarcerated for almost 40 years now, with Merle & Phil dying behind bars.  Police and white supremacist affiliated groups have successfully gotten parole denied for Eddie, Michael and Delbert Africa over the last 9 months as they do for many Political Prisoners from the 1960's through 80's in the U.S.  There are upcoming are parole hearings for Janet, Janine and Debbie Africa and more info on who to petition for their release can be found at http://onamove.com/move-9/. The name of the D.A. who prosecuted the MOVE9 in 1978 and who is still on the paperwork and has a say on the parole of the MOVE9 40 years later is named John Straub. Coming up this Saturday, February 24th starting at 4pm there'll be an event called "Framed In America: The Making of Political Prisoners".  This will take place at The National Black Theater, 2031 5th Ave in Harlem, New York and will include presentations by Ramona Africa, Fred Hampton Jr, Pam Africa, Roger Wareham, Betty Davis, Ralph Poynter and Johanna Fernandez.  More info can be found on the Justice for the Move 9 fedbook group. Stare Into The Light My Pretties The second conversation you'll hear today is an interview by Dissident Island Radio from London from their February 2nd episode. In this, a collective member interviews Filmmaker Jordan Brown, director of ‘Stare Into the Lights My Pretties', discussing their documentary about screen culture and its implications.  The film is available for free on archive.org, youtube and at truthstreammedia.com. DI is a member of the Channel Zero Network of anarchist podcasts available at channelzeronetwork.com. Anarcho-Syndicalist Organizing in Kosovo Finally, we'll be airing an interview conducted by our friends at Crna Luknja on Radio Student in Lubjlana, Slovenia, that they conducted with members of an anarcho-syndicalist collective from Pristina, the capital of Kosovo.  This segment was released as a part of the February 2018 edition of B(A)DNews: Angry Voices From Around The World, from the A-Radio Network of which The Final Straw, Črna Luknja and Dissident Island are members. Keep PUSHing: Building on the #OperationPUSH demands Mere days before FDC's repression effort began scattering active prisoners into new facilities, and into solitary confinement for the weeks surrounding January 15, an Operation PUSH prisoner's anonymous voice reached the world and called on outside supporters to "shine a light from the outside in on the system." In essence, this prisoner saw what was coming and passed the torch to us on the outside. With three clear demands and a simple strategy, this invisible group of prisoners gave a glimpse of what could be, if the networks of outside solidarity and inside communication could coalesce. While we have heard from many prisoners since January 15, we know that the vast majority of FL prisoners still do not know how much support they garnered on the outside. And many who made plans to struggle together have not seen or heard from each other in weeks. In many ways, the next steps towards victory for them are in our hands. It is with this understanding that a group of us on the outside are developing an additional list of demands, based primarily on communication from prisoners we've gotten in recent weeks, that aims to honor the countless who have suffered major sacrifices to develop or report on Operation PUSH as well as those who had no idea what it was, but were punished preemptively simply because they were viewed as potential organizers or participants. We will do all we can to bring these demands to FDC, the Governor and State Legislature, in an effort to carry the prisoners' vision for Operation PUSH forward. In addition to the Operation PUSH demands of payment, parole and pricing, we, supporters of all Florida prisoners struggling for dignity, demand: An end to censorship of publications that give voice to prisoners and/or critique prisons; An end to repression of prisoners for communication with outside advocates; An end to the use of Security Threat Group status as a means for political repression; An end to strip cells and extreme temperatures to torture prisoners; An explanation of the cause for a major spike in 2017 prisoner deaths; Protection of prisoners health from nearby industrial activity, including phosphate mining and landfills; An end to black mold-infested facilities, spoiled food and dilapidated buildings; Removal of all KKK members, and other recognized racist hate groups, from FDC staff; An end to the medical co-pay that results in financial debt and untreated illness; An immediate reduction in prison population using existing guidelines for clemency; and A face-to-face meeting with FDC officials to further discuss these matters. AFFORDABLE KETONE TESTING AT LAST KEY QUOTE: “I needed to reduce inflammation, heal my brain, and get my immune system in check. I knew that ketones do all those things so I started a ketogenic diet for my health.” — Shawn Mynar Here’s what Jimmy and Shawn talked about in Episode 73: - What can I do to heal my adrenals and thyroid issues while on a ketogenic diet? Do I need to heal these prior to going keto? Hey guys, I have been attempting to do a ketogenic diet since last July and it works wonders for my MS symptoms (I first heard about it from Dr. Terry Wahls). The issue I'm having now is adrenal fatigue and thyroid issues. I’m taking low-dose Synthroid, but I’m tired, nauseous, depressed, and feel cold all the time. Despite keeping my carbs under 30g total daily eating only whole foods, I have gained 20 pounds in two months. Since the adrenals and thyroid are connected, is it possible that I’m eating too low-carb for my stressed out adrenals? Or I am I not low-carb enough? You guys often say on Keto Talk that hormones dictate everything about your weight and health, but something is going on with me that I can’t seem to figure out. I feel like crap most of the time despite being on the healthiest diet I've ever eaten in my life—no gluten, no soy, no dairy, no sugar, 3-5 cups of fresh veggies, full fat coconut milk, grass-fed meats, cooking with bacon grease, and 1/2 cup of blueberries daily. Is there a way to heal my adrenals and thyroid with the ketogenic diet or do I need to heal these first before going full keto? Really love the podcast. Does keto take away your period and lead to undesirable health effects? Should I add in starch every few days to deal with these issues? Hey there, I recently read this article by a naturopath named Dr. Lara Briden: http://www.larabriden.com/are-you-eating-enough-get-period-amenorrhea/ In the post, she claims that eating a low-carb, ketogenic diet will take away your period. I've still not had a period since I started keto over 20 months ago. I also developed all four of the signs she mentioned: low T3 (non-Hashimoto's hypothyroid), hair loss, constipation, and insomnia. I average 5.5 hours of less-than-restful sleep per night with sleep aids and high-dose melatonin waking up every couple of hours. I'm desperate to know how I can tweak my ketogenic diet to favor fertility. My naturopath knows very little about keto and I’m not sure she can help me. I’ve been strict keto with 20/4 intermittent fasting for a while, so I wonder if I could get away with some starch every few days to see if that helps. Between my infertility and profoundly low estradiol, it just know it has triggered my binge eating. Should I eat both low-carb and low-calorie in order to get into ketosis and see the results I’m looking for? Hi guys, I have listened to all of your podcasts, some of them twice as I’ve become a sponge with the information. My question for you is about breast cancer and ketosis. I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 1/2 years ago and have had radiation and on tamoxifen for over three years. Cancer is what led me to start listening to health podcasts. During the cancer treatments, I put on 5kg (11 pounds) and it all seemed to develop in my midsection. I have tried low-carb and even keto, but can’t seem to get into ketosis no matter what I do. You guys have said many times on your podcast that some women need estrogen to help with weight loss, but I’m wondering if perhaps I need to be eating low-carb AND low-calorie in order to get the best results. When I’ve done keto previous about 8 years ago when I was at a bodybuilding gym, I lost a significant amount of weight very quickly. But I just can’t seem to get there now. I also take antidepressants to help with hot flashes and realize these have a side effect of weight gain. Can you help me? Jacki in Brisbane, Australia KEY QUOTE: “I just keep it simple. How can I get the benefits that ketosis provides my autoimmune arthritis without the unwanted weight loss that happens when I eat keto? I have been enjoying your podcasts and reading your Keto Clarity book. I started on a ketogenic diet to help with my autoimmune arthritis and I think I've been making some progress. Unfortunately, I’m losing weight and I don’t need to be. I’m 5’2” tall and actually underweight at 91 pounds. My goal is to be at 105 pounds. Despite shoveling down 75% fat in my diet, I just keep losing weight. Tracking my nutrition with an online tracker, it says my calories are higher than are required for me and yet my weight keeps dropping despite the fact I feel good. Should I choose being in ketosis and controlling my arthritis while losing weight or eating a few more carbohydrates to get out of ketosis in order to get back to normal weight again but dealing with the arthritis? Got any suggestions? I'd so love to get back some of my feminine curves again. Karen KETO TALK MAILBOX - How do I need to adjust the macronutrients on my ketogenic diet in the late stages of my pregnancy and while breastfeeding? Should I add more protein? Hi guys, Love the show! You are doing an amazing service, so keep up the good work. I’ve been keto for four months and I’m doing great losing 25 pounds and dropping my A1c from 5.6 to 5.0 in just two months of eating this way. My husband went keto at the same time as me and has lost 40 pounds. Needless to say, our doctor is ecstatic about our results. We’ve heard people joking about being careful when you go keto and normalize your hormones because it might just make getting pregnant easier—well SURPRISE, here comes baby #4! Are there any recommendations about how to adjust the macronutrients of my ketogenic diet for the second and third trimester and even once I started breastfeeding? I usually eat around 80% fat in my diet with protein around 70g and carbs at 20g. I’m definitely making sure I consume at minimum of 2,000 calories daily so I don’t stress my Hashimoto’s or my adrenals that I’ve worked so hard to heal over the past four years. Should I eat a bit more protein as the pregnancy continues? You guys will find this interesting that the way I found out I was pregnant was my ketones suddenly dropped to 0.3 after always registering 1.5-3.0 and on a hunch we did a pregnancy test. Whammo bammo, pregnant. Crazy right? I’m so thankful to be keto-adapted heading into this pregnancy and hoping it will keep my notorious severe morning sickness at bay this time around. Thanks again! When you're making a presentation, how do you fire up your audience? There are many ways to get that Powerpoint or Keynote presentation going. But one of the most effective ways is to issue a challenge. The audience then waits for you to succeed (or fail). But you can't fail, can you? You're a magician who has practiced the tricks to perfection. This episode is about creating a challenge?then bringing the entire audience alive with the magic trick. ------------------ Useful Resources Email me at: sean@psychotactics.com / Magic? You don't take out your pen, a sheet of paper and draw weird, funny squiggles.   And that's because a magician creates action. And most of the action is centred around a challenge. And while a presentation is no magic show, there's a way to take your audience from doodle-zone to challenge-zone in a matter of minutes.   So what is the challenge-zone? The challenge is something almost magical. Something that the audience would find hard to believe. Like for instance, a magician would make an elephant appear in the room. But the audience is skeptical—yet anticipating some action. This is the challenge-zone. In a world that's full of noise, the challenge immediately ramps up attention.   Let's slip into an early example When I do the presentation for The Brain Audit, I will often start off telling the audience, that at about the 17 minute mark, I will get everyone in the room to think of the same question. To a skeptical audience, that seems impossible. How could any presenter know what every audience member is thinking, let alone making you think of the very same question?    But the question is based on a trigger And if you've read The Brain Audit (which you should, if you haven't) you learn how to create the trigger. It's composed of the problem, solution and target profile. And when you string these three together, you get a single question, "What do you mean by that?". Once the trigger is sprung, curiosity takes over, and you have the "What do you mean by that?" question at the top of your mind.    And that's just one example—so let's take another When I do a presentation on "Pricing", the challenge question is similar. I tell everyone that by the time I show them the price-grid, everyone will want to pay 15% more—instead of 15% less. And I'll create this desire for the more expensive option, without changing the core product. This means that if the core product is a workshop on ballroom dancing, the core product will stay the same. And yet, almost everyone in the room will choose the more expensive option.   You see the elephant in the room, don't you? There's no elephant, but you as a magician are creating the challenge. And the audience loves the fact that there's a challenge coming up. What they love even more is that you're promising to "mess with the minds" of the entire audience. They think the guy next to them may be susceptible, but they're not going to fall for some silly trick. And this is what gives the challenge more power. The more skeptical they are, the more you're able to convert them from skeptics to fanatical fans.    There's just one itty-bitty problem: How do you construct the challenge? The challenge must contain a method to get from A to B. It can't be just a concept. It must be something they can try for themselves. So for instance, there's this company called ioSafe. They make hard drives. And the beauty of their hard drive is that they can be dunked in water, blasted with a torch, or crushed under a road roller—and still survive. You can see how the challenge works, can't you? The challenge would be for people to try and destroy the drive.   But sure, that's a product and quite a unique product... What about if you're selling a service or even a concept? The core of any product/service or training should be that you're able to bring results. Yet, instead of picking many points of your service or product, you pick just one. For instance, we teach a course in Photoshop colouring (for cartoonists). And the way the demonstration goes is like this—we get rid of Photoshop—and the computer.   And imagine we're at the cafe, instead And the audience is asked to pick a letter for the "brush" tool in Photoshop. Of course, you chose B. And then to choose any number (on the keyboard) that represents 60% opacity. You may fumble, but you'll settle on 6. And then you ask them to choose between the left or right square bracket, to increase the size of the brush.    And they choose the right one—they always do. Whammo! You've shown them how to use the three core tool to colour, without so much as going next to a computer.    But it's not enough to create a challenge You have to make sure there's a space between issuing the challenge and showing them the "elephant in the room". Usually a good way to do this is to issue the challenge right at the start of the presentation. And give them an approximate time when you'll solve the mystery. e.g. In 17  minutes, or at the end of the first section. This keeps them focused not only on what you're saying, but on edge, anticipating the moment when you solve the mystery.   But won't the gap distract them? Yes, there's a gap between issuing the challenge and solving it, but the audience doesn't get distracted at all. Why? Because you've been clear. You've told them the time at which the problem will be solved. Now they're ready to focus on anything else that you have to say, expecting fully well that you will keep your promise at the right time.    And even if you're an expert, you don't want the audience to take over Notice how the magician doesn't ask your opinion when he does the magic trick? Well, the same applies to you. In every audience, there are likely to be hecklers. Or super-skeptics. You could put twenty elephants in the room and they'd still find fault with your method. If you ask the audience to raise their hand, or do something that involves audience participation, you're more than likely to run into the heckler.   That's when you've lost control Now your carefully executed challenge is the mercy of the heckler and his agenda. It's better to meet the challenge, pause for a few seconds and let the awe seep through the crowd. Then, move along. The ones in the audience who've felt the change will come along with you, and the hecklers won't—but at least they won't get a chance to drive you off tangent.    Every product or service has a bit of magic  Every product or service can demonstrate that magic, but you can't fiddle with all the features. You have to pick one feature—the one that creates magic. And every product or service has to have this amazing "something" or it's just another me-too offering. Finding that magic is what causes the audience to gasp in amazement and come along for the rest of the ride.   So let's summarise, shall we? 1) Look of ONE element in your product or service. What is that one?  2) Introduce the challenge right at the start of your presentation. 3) Then DO NOT solve the problem. Let it linger. 4) The lingering should have a fixed point. e.g. 17 minute-mark or end of first section etc. 5) At that point, not earlier, you should reveal the solution. 6) Do not get the audience to participate. You're opening yourself up to hecklers. 7) Losing control is one thing. A heckler can make you lose status. And that's death on stage. 8) Once you've got the audience gobsmacked, linger for a few minutes. Let the moment sink in, then move along.   When you read this piece, it may seem almost impossible to figure out what to do next. Does your product or service really have a magic trick. Yes it does. And you will find it only if you stick to ONE feature or benefit.    That one trick is a pure attention-getter! It pulls the audience along with you, and sure stops the doodling!

Those of you have been following my podcasts over the past few months, will know that my husband has recently 'got into'*hunting. He is now fully licensed, fully equipped, and on his way to becoming an experienced hunter. Today, instead of leaving at six in the morning, as he usually does, to go to work, he spent the morning with me. He has taken a few days off to go with a friend to Minnesotta to hunt White Tail deer. He deserves a small vacation, so I have enthusiastically watched him pack all of his gear*, and listen to his plans for a successful hunt. Because he was ready ahead of time, he had a couple of hours to kill*, so we went up to the local shooting range to try out a couple of his rifles. I am a novice*, so I was quite happy to watch as he shot at the targets. It was freezing cold, and I had bundled myself up in three coats, a scarf, and a bobble hat: not exactly the right fashion sense for a tough shooter. The first rifle that Tom used was extremely loud; thankfully we both had heavy duty* ear protection on. The funny thing was, each time we said something to eachother, we couldn't hear; we spent the whole time saying,"What?" and having to repeat everything in loud voices. As Tom tested his rifles, I had a good look around. There wasn't that much to look at. The range is basically a long roof that shelters the marksmen. There are a few chairs here and there, but no houses around (who would want to live next to a shooting range?). There was nobody but us there; the hills surrounding us were bare, and there was no wind, not even a sound. Well, the only sound was the horrendously loud noise of the rifle, but other than that, it all felt desolate. I imagined someone whistling the theme tune from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, but then I realized that with my woolly bobble hat, I had destroyed any image of cowboys. I did notice, however, some very interesting signs, three to be precise. Obviously, from the looks of them*, some people who come to practice get silly with the guns, and do dangerous things. I read the word "don't" over and over. Apparently, some people shoot beyond the shooting range on to private property, or they shoot at the ground (which is dangerous), or at objects that they shouldn't. T-t-t-t-t-t, very naughty. Someone needs to have his gun taken away, doesn't he? And someone needs to be put in time-out*. I'm glad that I'm not at the shooting range when other people are there; it's potentially very dangerous, and I wouldn't trust other people's sense of safety. Anyway, before we left, I had a go shooting a lighter rifle, one that would be good for hunting birds or rabbits. I found it hard at first to look through the scope, but I go the hang of it. I calmed my breathing, and tried not to move. The cross was over the bullseye, and POW! What a shot! Not bad at all; almost right on the bullseye!. That felt good. I continued, each time thinking carefully about keeping still and controlling my breathing. POW! POW! BANG! WHAMMO! And another BANG! Hey, I'm not a bad shot at all. I even brought the target home to prove it. Related expressions: to get into something, gear, heavy duty, a novice. 1. She really got into sculpting a few years ago, and now is quite good. 2. To rock climb, you need the right gear. You should also check your gear after using it to see if any of it is worn out. 3. I need some heavy duty earplugs; my husband snores like a rhinoceros. 4. Novice hunters are potentially dangerous; the experts are much safer. // //
