My guest is John Bertino! John has always been deeply fascinated by the art and science of crafting an exceptional marketing strategy. John's professional background stems from a decade in the agency space, where he consulted with clients on SEO and inbound marketing campaigns. During that time, John watched salespeople and marketing agencies fight to one-up each other and impress prospective clients with industry jargon, flashy proposals, and agency bluster. They didn't have the clients' best interests at heart. John knew there had to be a better way. Enter TAG: the world's first marketing consultancy with a 100% focus on providing brands unbiased advice and vetted agency recommendations. These days, John consults with brands on all areas of marketing with a primary concentration in SEO, content marketing, and digital PR. He also teaches at the University of San Diego and works closely with entrepreneurs of all sizes at SCORE. Becoming a Voice for Fitness: Your Videos & Podcasts

Fitness Marketing Mastery

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 26, 2023 53:56

To be a real voice for fitness, an advocate for health and behavior change, your voice quality will matter. As AI-driven voice-overs may be able to make you sound better than you actually sound, this may be a podcast who's time is past, yet I think if you can make your voice become something that conveys confidence, authority, and simultaneously inspires hope and action steps in your audience, I bet you'd say, yes please.  And the truth is there are voice qualities that make it difficult for people to want to listen to you. If you want your voice to be music to someone's ears, there are things you can do.  One obstacle you'll have to overcome is awareness of it.  It's nearly impossible to hear our own voices as someone else does.   Definitely when we're speaking we have a very different experience than anyone else might hearing us. The input is coming through a combination of the skull bones internally and through the air externally.  A 2005 study showed our own reality of our voice tends to be much different than what other listeners hear. We are more harsh judges and tend not to like our voices. So do cut yourself a break. Do listen to your own video, audio but also realize we have a unique experience listening to ourselves compared to someone else's experience.   Be a Voice for Fitness : How to Fix Your Flaws    Get feedback.  If you've ever had someone say, it's hard to hear you, speak up, or a mean-girl (it's almost always a woman unfortunately, not everyone has gotten the message that we're being nice to each other now) say something like, “I can't stand to listen to a voice like that - like fingernails on a chalkboard” then listen.. A little. You don't have to be the voice for everyone just for those who are going to love working with you. And sometimes sound quality can be fixed! With a combination of free, low cost or higher investments, even voice exercises.   So, if you discover or know that your voice isn't as smooth or as strong as you'd like it to be, what can you do? There are some ways to improve what you're doing.  A Better Mic Back in 2012 when I first started podcasting, someone said the best mic was the Blue Yeti. I got one. I hadn't a clue about what I was doing or how I was doing it, but I knew if it was going to be listened to, it had to sound good. And that thing is way more reasonable today, and actually I retired mine, because even after careful packing it was not producing the kind of sound I needed. So, during the pandemic the entire podcast set up at Voice for Fitness changed. You may want and need a mixer, headphones and a high quality mic. But at the very least you want a high quality microphone and a room set up for acoustics - with carpet or rugs, things on the walls and ceilings, or I've known podcasters who record in a closet.   If you want the list of items I use as a part of my setup from platform to tech, stay tuned til the end and I'll share those.  Improve Your Voice Quality   Some of the same things that make the difference behind a richer more powerful voice are also going to support your pelvic floor muscles. Any hints? Breathing. Deeper breathing that comes from your diaphragm supports your voice too.   You may be doing planks all day every day but if you're not doing diaphragmatic breathing your core is missing the foundation it needs! And so is your voice. Singers sing and cheerleaders project from their diaphragm and you should too even when your mic is 2 inches from your mouth and you could whisper.  Cheat Use the audio adjustments available to you in your movie editor and garage band (anyone using that anymore?). This isn't ideal because sooner or later you're going to be asked to speak… or do a media appearance or keynote or lead a breakout session.  Voice Tips for Health & Fitness Pros Before You Record:  Hydrate  Posture - try standing! Or move for a few minutes before ! (working out is easy, sitting is not) Smile!  Warm ups: lala, tikita takata or Peter Piper picked.. , papapa, dadada, bababa, ar-tic-u-late Diaphragmatic breathing  Know your script OR … bullet points so you're NOT reading  Some good rules: Sound when sound, quiet when quiet. Do These Simple Things When Creating Video Content, With Zachary Foust How do you gain attention effectively on videos? On this week's episode of the Social Genius podcast, there is another incredible speaker from The Taste Of Social Con Virtual Event. He shares great ideas for creating content, how to develop hooks, and how to simply solve problems for your followers. Tune in! Episode Highlights: Jeff introduces Zachary Foust, who is an independent realtor in Delaware. Tristan asks Zach what he is focusing on for 2023 when it comes to Social Media. As real estate agents, you may think you just need to follow the trends on Reels or TikTok but there are other aspects that you need to follow that up with; Zachary reviews some systems around content. Zach says Facebook has been consistently getting more organic reach. What about YouTube Shorts? Zach shares how he and his team are really kicking it up a notch there. How can you not have an entire staff to create a bunch of content?  “A lot of people want to hear about homes”, Zach says.  Why do videos go viral? What is important right now to focus on that is already gaining attention and you can jump on board with? Zach says the first thing he is looking at the hook. Where is your competition? You have to play the game and understand that you're up against the attention grabbing mechanisms. Zach shares some examples of people who are doing a good job using trends that are working elsewhere and giving them a real estate business. Everybody's good at different things. You need to put yourself at your highest and best use. Tristan asks Zach how he comes up with his hooks. He talks about what makes up agood hook in general. How do you consistently stay on Social without getting sucked in? Zach also warns against trying to just make one thing work. He also says don't assume you're just not doing anything good when you may not have reached the right people yet. Do you find priority in making time for content?  Jeff talks about how they study  YouTube trends because that is the driver on video trends. You have to be changing the look of your videos throughout or you will lose people. Zach agrees that if you're just rambling for 15 seconds you're gone. “There are great storytellers, too”, Tristan says. Zach adds advice for a hook structure in that regard. Zach talks about the psychology behind numbers and having some sort of expectation of what consumers are going to get. Exactly What To Say is one of the books Zach has read multiple times. He shares a few others that have been key for him. Zach reviews Frame Rate and how he uses it. What is the main point of the post and what is the success metric for that? If you know the consumer's intention, you can get their attention.      Resources Mentioned: Business Video School: https://www.bizvideoschool.com/ Drunk on Social Website: www.drunkonsocial.com Drunk on Social Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136264191062786/  Drunkon Social Instagram: https://www.facebook.com/groups/136264191062786/  Jeff Pfitzer Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeffpfitzer/  Jeff Pfizer TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeffpfitzer?lang=en  Tristan Ahumada Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/labcoatagents  TristanAhumadaYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ6o6B5JPEBP57hu9VdzT4Q Lab Coat Agents Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/labcoatagentsR Lab Coat Agents Twitter: https://twitter.com/LabCoatAgents Lab Coat Agents Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/labcoatagents/     Zachary Foust: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100009690497109  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zachary.loft/  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/zachary-foust-loft/  TikTok: https://www.TikTok.com/@zacharyloft? Adrian encourages people to start the journey to achieving their goals and mentions various resources. Tune in to this episode to learn how to scale your business through video content. Here are 5 lessons you can learn from the episode 1. Short-form video content can be an effective way to reach a wider audience on social media, while longer form content like YouTube videos can help build deeper connections with your audience and provide more value on topics. 2. Building a personal brand requires actively engaging with your followers on social media and delivering valuable messages to them, while also being authentic and building deeper connections. 3. To create effective video content, it's important to script out your videos, deliver the message to one person, focus on staying on-topic, and aim for relatively short videos of 5-8 sentences for short-form content. 4. Starting on the journey to achieving goals takes effort, perseverance, and the willingness to fail and learn from setbacks. Whether it's in personal pursuits like Jiu-Jitsu or in building a business or personal brand, it's important to keep working toward mastery. 5. It can be helpful to have a coach or mentor to guide you in developing your brand and content creation approach, while also recognizing that passing tasks along to others and building a team can help scale your business and get more done. You ever wondered what it really "Costs" to post video content daily like you see a lot of creators do? You're about to find out! "Organic content" doesn't mean it's free content. Sure, they don't charge you to post on the social channels but it still costs time and/or money to create and distribute it. Now, we, like many companies who have used video content to grow their business, would refer to it as an investment not a cost. But whatever you call it, here is what we cover in this episode 1.) Your time and how much you need to dedicate to it 2.) Video Editing/Post Production. I lay out pretty much every option you can think of from self-editing and using software/tools, to freelancing on Upwork/Fiverr, to agencies, to hiring internally. 3.) It builds a lot of rapport with the person that you're sending it to especially if it's personalized. Build something that's meant to stay. Something that will represent you for a long amount of time.Always record videos sideways, unless it's for tiktok. Remember the rule of thirds. Have better audio. Make sure you have enough headroom and proper leading room. Finally, position your lighting properly. Get away from the wall. Put some distance between the background and you, put objects in different layers behind you. It will make the picture or video more alive. "If you simply put the word “video” in the subject line of an email when you send it out, the chances of it getting opened increase by over 200%." —  Corey Piper Free Gift:www.pipermediagroup.com/5things4video Resources: Lavs:Under $25: PoP voice Professional Lavalier lapel MicrophoneUnder $50: PowerDeWise 3.5 jack (choose based on the connector that you need: iPhone,USB C, iPad)Over $50: Sennheiser Pro Audio Condenser Microphone, XS Lav USB-C Lights:Free: Window during the day, with a white sheet over the window for diffusion.Under $50: Mountdog softbox lighting kitUnder $100: RALENO Softbox Photography Lighting Kit 20"X28"Under $200: Neewer 2 Packs Dimmable Bi-Color 480 LED Video Light and Stand Lighting Kit Connect with Corey Piper:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PiperMediaGroup Website: www.pipermediagroup.com  CONNECT WITH CHABIDAYE:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chabidaye.ramnath.3Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leadandlift/Website: https://leadandlift.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chabidayejaglalramnath/  Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. Benefits of Batch Creating Video | Episode 37

Batching content simply means taking a bunch of photos and videos in one setting. When done right, it will MAXIMIZE your social media efforts and always keep your content bank full! Listen in for how to develop the best batch-creating system for your content.First, let me review some of the benefits of batch creating content....1. You only have to get camera-ready once! This is huge for me because if I'm not on-camera, I do not wear makeup. So I assign my content to days when I'm already camera-ready.2. You only have to set up for your video once. Hopefully your set up is just a few quick steps, but still. Once you have it out you can run down the line of creating content then put it all away.3. You get mentally in the zone of creating content. You become the content creator and get those bursts of inspiration. Your mind is already firing on all cylinders. So, how do you create the best batch-content creating process for your business? The first thing to do is build it as you go. Ignore the processes everyone else has, and begin building yours based off your actual content assets. For example, my assets are: the Podcast, monthly training videos inside of my private group, photos for social media, and recently- Instagram Reels. This list started with only the Podcast. That was the only piece of content I expected myself to deliver every single week. Then over time, it continued to build. When you build your content asset list as you go, you're able to learn your capacity. Some people create Reels for the month in one setting. Some hosts record 5 podcasts in a day. You have to decide where you are on that spectrum and allow yourself to add to your plate as you continue to create content. The next step for success is having your shot list ready so you know exactly what you're supposed to create. Do the preparation the day before, so that you're spending all the time you've set aside to create. So, where do you start? Start with picking one day of the week, and setting aside one hour to create your content.Mine is Thursday's at 10am, when's yours?
