Beloved, Let us pray together:"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord....my word......it always produces fruit....it will prosper everywhere I send it.You will live in joy and peace."- Isaiah 55.Merciful Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we thank you for the parables and lessons learned from the Farmers Scattering Seed: Matthew 13.Jesus Christ, you tell us that hearing the Word, the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches will choke the word and make us become unfruitful: verse 22.Abba Father, help us to receive the joy and many blessings that YOU have made available to us, now: undistracted; In verse twenty-four You tell us the parable of the enemy sowing weeds in the field of a farmer who had scattered Good seed.Lord and Saviour, may we stay focused on you alone; Nothing is lost with you. You see, know, and take care of EVERYTHING.Please give us the strength, faith, hope, and love, Lord God Almighty, not to be distracted by the cares of this world or the deceitfulness of riches.I Am, help us to be likened unto the farmers who scattered seed and did not get distracted by the lost seed that fell by the wayside, nor by the seed that fell among thorns; moreover, help us not to be offended nor distracted by the enemy sowing "weeds."You teach us that the seed that fell into Good Ground brought forth fruit thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted: YOU will provide- Ecclesiastes 11:6, Genesis 22:8.Thank you for loving us and knowing us intricately: individually- Psalm 139.We repent of our sin.We forgive and receive your unconditional love, and forgiveness. We receive all of the answered prayers, heart's desires, special miracles, and blessings that you have for us. Jesus is the Lord.Amen.

Addiction has become sorta an expectation in our society. Most of us have dealt with addiction on one level or another. Many are secretly hiding their addictions, out of fear of judgement and shame. On today's show I sit down with my guest, who was on staff at a church and hiding his addiction to alcohol. While he was a Christian for most of his life, it wasn't until his addiction got out of control that he fully understand and experienced the grace of God. The churches obsession with preaching against sin, has lead many in the church to hide in shame and not feel safe or comfortable to come clean and ask for help. In this week's episode, Coach Blu and our Athletic Director Marissa deeply dive into the human brain and the hormone that can make addiction recovery challenging. The brain is the most complex organ in the body. This three-pound mass of gray and white matter sits at the center of all human activity—you need it to drive a car, enjoy a meal, breathe, create an artistic masterpiece, and enjoy everyday activities. The brain regulates your body's essential functions, enables you to interpret and respond to everything you experience, and shapes your behavior. In short, your brain is you—everything you think and feel and who you are. Listen as the talk about D.O.S.E. the four chemical we as humans strive for. D is for doapmine. Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter. Your body makes it, and your nervous system uses it to send messages between nerve cells. That's why it's sometimes called a chemical messenger. Dopamine plays a role in how we feel pleasure. It's a big part of our unique human ability to think and plan. It helps us strive, focus, and find things interesting. O is for oxytocin. In the brain, oxytocin acts as a chemical messenger and has an important role in many human behaviours including sexual arousal, recognition, trust, romantic attachment and mother–infant bonding. As a result, oxytocin has been called the 'love hormone' or 'cuddle chemical'. S is for serotonin. In the brain, serotonin helps with mood regulation and memory, but it also has important jobs in other parts of the body. In fact, most of the serotonin in your body is found in your gut, not your brain. The intestines produce almost all of the body's serotonin supply, and serotonin is required to promote healthy digestion. Elsewhere in the body, serotonin helps with sleep, sexual function, bone health, and blood clotting. E is for endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals produced by the body to relieve stress and pain. They work similarly to a class of drugs called opioids. Opioids relieve pain and can produce a feeling of euphoria. They are sometimes prescribed for short-term use after surgery or for pain-relief.

Studies show that at least 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental health challenge. This number is even higher amongst teens. In 2020, the CDC reported that 40% of Americans were struggling with mental health or substance abuse. What role does the church have to play in this mental health epidemic? At Northeast, we believe in a wholistic approach to mental health. Mental health problems are rarely faith problems, but they can have faith solutions. We believe talking about our mental health with one another is vital, and the church should be a place where we share our burdens- not the place we hide them. So, let's talk about mental health. ---------------------------------- If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please immediately contact a hotline for help: LOCAL (to Louisville, Kentucky): Mental Health Crisis Line: 502-589-4313 Seven Counties 24/7 Addiction Help: 502-583-3951 NATIONAL: Crisis Text Line: HOME to 471-471 Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 800-273-TALK Veterans Crisis Line: 800-273-8255 press 1 The Trevor Project (24/7 helpline for LGBTQ youth ages 13-24): 866-488-7386 WEB: NAMI Louisville: www.namilouisville.org First Hour Grief Response: www.firsthourgrief.org
Food Addiction Help: Why do I binge eat? What causes binge eating? Do I have a binge eating disorder? Today, I'm going to talk about junk food addiction, symptoms of food addiction, and binge eating causes to help you identify the reason behind why you and so many other people are experiencing food obsession. Eating disorders and addictions do not pop up out of the blue! There is typically an underlying cause behind that food addiction. This requires some soul-searching and an awareness of something that may be missing in your life. There could be an unmet need, trauma, lack of connectedness, and many other psychological needs that puts a person at risk for an eating disorder or food addiction. Being at risk makes you vulnerable to the already addictive like qualities of highly processed foods and the social environment that endorses them. Tune in today to understand what causes this addiction and what is missing in what we think we know about addiction. Prescription medication can be addictive. Even if a doctor prescribes opioids, there are still risks when taking them, including addiction and death. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration in 2018, an estimated 10.3 million people ages 12 or older reported having misused opioids in the previous year. July is Prescription Drug Abuse Awareness Month, and the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness wants you to know that if you are concerned about your use of prescription drugs or that of a friend, family member, or child, help is available. Food addiction, like addiction to drugs or alcohol, often begins as a way to manage stress, turn up the volume on pleasant emotions (like happiness or comfort), or dampen uncomfortable feelings (like anxiety, anger, or sadness). Since 2010, researchers at Yale University have been using the Yale Food Addiction Scale (YFAS) to identify people with food addiction. Binge eating disorder shares a number of characteristics with food addiction. The organizers of a vigil to end mass incarceration in Monroe County were taken by surprise Wednesday when counter-demonstrators showed up waving signs in support of incumbent District Attorney Sandra Doorley. The activists say coordinators for Gates to Recovery, the addiction help center that organized the counter-demonstration, were exploiting people in court-ordered diversion programs for their own political ends. Randy Cimino, President of Gates to Recovery, says it was all voluntary. Darien Lamen reports. Original air date: 1/2/19

There's no stopping a woman with a vision. This Kansas City Addiction Professional recognized the need for help and passion-based service, and she created a resource we desperately needed. Amber Reed is a professional I have enormous respect for. She has created her own path in this industry that is truly client-centered. She has not allowed insurance, or anyone else, to dictate the type of care she provides and how she serves her clients. Not only is this rare, but it is admirable. Our conversation is a breath of fresh air, and I am grateful to know professionals like Amber who haven't forgotten the passion in their work. A great barrier to receiving mental health and addiction services is the dreaded wait list. People who are suffering are often told there is a wait of weeks to months before they can get in to see a professional, and hopefully get some relief. Resolve in Kansas City took all the biggest barriers to addiction and mental health support and built a practice that serves, helps, and inspires. www.kcresolve.com Instagram: @resolve_counseling @addictionunlimited @angela_pugh_ Facebook: facebook.com/groups/addictionunlimited

Over 20 million people over the age of 12 struggle with addiction in the United States alone (and that doesn't even include tobacco). Despite its prevalence, addiction is still considered taboo, and the stigma attached remains strong. As with most things that are kept under wraps, there are a ton of misconceptions about addiction and recovery. In this podcast I speak with Stephen Pfleiderer, a recovered addict, recovery coach and interventionist in San Francisco, and he shares his thoughts on these complex issues.
Sarah Oliveira McDonald, a long time listener of our podcast and part of the La Hacienda family, extended an invitation on behalf of La Hacienda Treatment Center for our team to visit their incredible campus located in Hunt, Texas. As our listeners know, we are always searching for treatment facilities that provide exemplary services. We volunteered our time with a mission to get to know their staff who are considered family and interview some of their clinical team. Please welcome Dr. Katie McQueen to the show. We had the honor of listening to one of the many educational sessions she provides for staff and residents. She joined us in her office to discuss addiction and co-occurring disorders. Join us for an eye opening discussion about the full spectrum of addiction disorders with some special focus on food addiction. Katie McQueen, MD, is a nationally recognized expert in the field of addiction medicine. She has written several book chapters and articles related to addiction and has lectured extensively on screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT), as well as prescription drug misuse, and addiction as a medical disorder. While on faculty at Baylor College of Medicine and UTHSC-Houston, Dr. McQueen developed and was the Medical Director for InSight, the State of Texas SBIRT program. InSight screened more than 90,000 Harris County residents for substance use problems and provided both brief intervention and more intensive services when appropriate to more than 20,000 patients. Her pioneering work in SBIRT has been recognized by the Office of National Drug Control Policy and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Prior to joining the medical staff at La Hacienda she practiced Internal Medicine and Addiction Medicine in Houston, Texas. For more information please visit www.lahacienda.com.
We had the pleasure of meeting Randy and Lydia Grimes at the Navigating the World of Addiction conference in Littleton Colorado. Randy and Lydia were there with the treatment center they passionately serve Behavorial Health of the Palm Beaches. Sharing the stage to discuss their story as a family was inspiring for all of us. Randy made sure to invite Lydia to join him to share her part of the journey as well. Addiction is a family disease and hearing from both husband and wife was powerful. Randy was an American football player who played center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1983 to 1992. He also played for Baylor University during the early 1980's and was part of the 1980 Southwest Conference Champion Bears. He is now an interventionist, speaker, and part of the team at Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches. Our podcast is known for Keeping it Real and that is exactly what you get with Randy. This was very personal for the entire team at Mental Health News Radio and many of our listeners. A healing took place for all of us since meeting Randy and especially for our host Kristin Walker during this intimate and poignant interview. Our heartfelt thanks go out to him, his wife Lydia, his family and the staff of Behavioral Health of the Palm Beaches. Randy and Lydia continue to share their experience with addiction and recovery using their knowledge to help not only athletes but any family struggling with their road to recovery. We are honored to take part in working with Randy sharing the stories of the many lives saved because of USING YOUR VOICE.www.bhpalmbeach.com
Most everyone, human that is, has some sort of addiction. Some are minor and the person is well aware of their issues. Many folks resist, however, because everyone else is "doing it" so they don't feel like there is a problem. Addictive behavior unfortunately is often a self-soothing method to cover up uncomfortable feelings and emotions. With ascension, we are being challenged to release and heal what no longer serves us...and feeling "We are all One" can be disturbing to say the least (especially if you're not expecting it)! Join me on this self-hosted live healing call as I discuss the various reasons we have symptoms of addiction including: - microbiome imbalance (tune in if you have no idea what I'm talking about) -dopamine and dopamine receptors - ascension related sensitivity - entity interferences - energetic boundary imbalances - alternate self syndrome ...and more! I will be doing a healing activation to support you in healing addictive symptoms and then I will take callers by phone and on the chat. Maybe you will be chosen to get a mini-healing!
