By Reverend Doctor William and Doctor Carolyn Eberwein. Affectionately known as Doctor Bill and Doctor Carolyn. They had worked in a variety of Social Services fields including church ministries, juvenile justice prison systems, halfway houses, and had even done some fundraisers.Through their experience, they began to notice that the children of their clients were entering Social Services systems, repeating the pattern of their parents. The other ones felt that if they could reach out to people at an earlier age, as children, then perhaps they might be able to affect and potentially break the dependency, suffering and failure cycles that many of the children were facing. Since 1982, Children's Choice has expanded from its original Foster Care service to other services that include: Medical Foster Care, Treatment Level Foster Care, Respite Foster Care, and types of Adoption Services, as well as Kinship Care.https://www.facebook.com/childrens.choice.inchttps://www.childrenschoice.org/

In today's episode we talk about running the race and running towards God and pursuing His heart. We have a very special interview with Jason Sampler, the Georgia Director of Lifeline Children's Services sharing about the work of Lifeline with Pregnancy Counseling and Adoption Services here in Georgia and globally. Jason shares about a very special 9th Annual "Run for One" happening this weekend, August 29th at several locations in the south. This episode shares lots of beautiful insights about how we can pursue God and run towards Him. When we run towards Him, He will run towards us just like the Father in the story of the Prodigal running to his son. The Father's heart is to go after the one who is lost and even leaving the 99 to find that lost soul who has gone astray. He’s not far from each one of us. Even if it feels like you've run so far away that you’ve reached the point of no return, there He is right behind you, waiting to heal your backslidings.Jeremiah 3:22“Return, you backsliding children, And I will heal your backslidings.”Matthew 18:11-14For the Son of Man has come to save that which was lost.“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.Saturday August 29th Lifeline's 9th Annual Run for Onehttps://p2p.onecause.com/runforone5k/homeHope to run together with you! Welcome to Splitsville | Navigating Divorce in a Modern World
A Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is a community volunteer appointed by the court to serve children by advocating for their best interests before the court. When appropriate, the court may appoint a Guardian ad Litem in a child custody action. If you’re currently involved in or about to enter a contested custody battle, divorce, or separation, this episode will help you understand the role of a GAL and what you can expect from the process. In this episode, Touchstone Family Law founder Leigh Sellers speaks with Hollie Bennett of Palmetto Guardian and Adoption Services about her work as a guardian ad litem. They examine what the position of a guardian ad litem entails and their various responsibilities related to child custody cases. In general, the guardian ad litem is assigned by the court when the judge feels that he can’t be fully informed about the case at hand. They are advocates for the children, conducting a fair, balanced, and impartial investigation by collecting information through interviews, home visits, and other means. 01:52 Hollie also debunks a few misconceptions about guardian ad litem. GAL are not tools to be used by either of the parties involved in divorce and do not represent one side or the other. 03:42 GAL are not there to care for the children, nor do they possess the same decision-making powers as the court. 18:12 While GAL are encouraged to make informed suggestions, the significant decisions lie with the judge and the parents. 19:40 Leigh and Hollie also discuss what types of information guardian ad litem collect and the various qualifications required. 8:15 Attending training sessions and developing connections within the community are other requirements for those interested in becoming a GAL. 29:04 Hollie also reveals the disadvantages of litigation and how this adversarial process has the potential to inflict additional immediate and long-term damage upon the children. As the guardian ad litem, it is incumbent upon them to encourage parents to work together to find alternative methods of resolving their disputes and explore options like collaborative mediation. For more information on guardian ad litem, adoption, and the collaborative process, you can visit www.palmettosocialwork.com. The insights and views presented in “Welcome to Splitsville” are for general information purposes only and should not be taken as legal advice for any individual case or situation. Nor does tuning in to this podcast constitute an attorney-client relationship of any kind. She was also a member of both Nottingham and Leicester County’s Adoption Panels, offering both her professional and personal experiences to panel. Now as a specialist music therapist in adoption practice, Joy is an identified lead therapist for Adoption Services in the East Midlands, as well as retaining links with “CORAM” Leicestershire, and working extensively with individually referred cases funded by the Adoption Support Fund (which came into being in 2015 to enable adoptive families to gain access to psychotherapies). Joy works with adoptive families where longer-term placements are deemed “at risk of breakdown”, when ostensibly difficulties result from the placement of older children who are described as having significant “attachment (and other) disorders”. She also works with families at the beginning of new placements when it is thought likely that traumatic material will impinge upon the adoption placement. She is currently working with adopted children with complex physical and learning disability, where often a disability discovered at birth led to the relinquishment of a baby. Joy developed her interest in how the impact of findings from neurobiology impacted on adult verbal psychotherapy, and what this might mean for music therapists trying to give meaning to what is emergent in the therapy room. Her PhD research explores how relational attachments may be enhanced by moments of attunement (which might be explained partially in terms of their neurobiology) occurring within a music therapy relationship. She has written the BAMT literature on adoption which is available to anyone perusing the website with a request about music therapy in adoption. She has presented her work on music therapy, adoption, and the significance of attunement at numerous conferences over the past 5 years, and in 2017 presented at the World Congress Of Music Therapy in Japan and at “EcArte” (the Eurpoean Arts Therapies conference) in Poland. She also regularly presents work to adoption agencies, and consults to groups and service users within the adoption community. She is an author, supervisor, and lecturer at Derby and Nottingham Universities. Luke talks to Joy about her work with adoption and how this relates to her own life experiences, her development as a music therapist, and her current PhD research. References. Bettelheim. B. 1950.
