Ben Page, chief executive of market research company Ipsos, joins Voternomics this week to outline what he's discovered about voters and what they think about their politicians, governments and economies. He tells Stephanie Flanders and Allegra Stratton that trust in politics is the “lowest we've ever measured.” Also on this episode, Flanders, Stratton and Adrian Wooldridge ask Bloomberg Opinion columnist John Authers whether—given the question of when the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates between now and the election—the central bank can remain above the political fray.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In the discussion on the plausibility of an all-evil God versus an all-good God, Dr. Max Baker-Hytch delivered a compelling argument that encapsulated the essence of the debate. He highlighted the inherent scepticism that arises when considering the 'evil God' hypothesis, pointing out that if such a malevolent deity were to exist, it would provide ample reason to doubt the reliability of our cognitive faculties. According to Dr. Baker-Hytch, the very nature of an evil God would entail a desire to deceive humanity, leading to pervasive doubts and uncertainties. In contrast, the 'good God hypothesis' stands in stark contrast, lacking the motive for such pervasive deception. Dr. Asha Lancaster-Thomas, whose scholarly contributions have ignited significant discourse on this topic, brought her insights to bear on the discussion. Holding a PhD from the University of Birmingham and teaching philosophy at Atlanta Classical Academy, Dr. Thomas is no stranger to the complexities of metaphysics and epistemology. Her paper on the 'evil God challenge' has been a focal point for philosophical inquiry, prompting responses such as Dr. Baker-Hytch's co-authored rebuttal, "Meeting the Evil God Challenge." Dr Max Baker-Hytch, lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Oxford received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Oxford and subsequently held research positions at the University of Oxford and the University of Notre Dame. Max has published more than a dozen scholarly articles and book chapters on various topics within the fields of philosophy of religion and epistemology This intellectual but friendly exchange between Dr. Baker-Hytch and Dr. Lancaster-Thomas, is hosted by fellow philosopher Vince Vitale. #evilgodchallenge #philosophy #morality #philosophyofreligion #goodgod #evil SOCIAL LINKS: Twitter: https://twitter.com/unbelievablefe Facebook: / https://facebook.com/premierunbelievable Instagram: / https://instagram.com/premierunbelievable Tik Tok: / https://tiktok.com/@premier.unbelievable Asha Lancaster Thomas Read Asha's chapter in Jack Symes' Philosophers on God: Talking About Existence (https://www.bloomsbury.com/us/philosophers-on-god-9781350227286/)https://compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/phc3.12543https://compass.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/phc3.12502Twitter: @asha_lancaster For Max Baker Hytch: Twitter: @MaxBakerHytchMax Baker Hytch and Ben Page's paper https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/papq.12304 • Subscribe to the Unbelievable? podcast: https://pod.link/267142101 • More shows, free eBook & newsletter: https://premierunbelievable.com • For live events: http://www.unbelievable.live • For online learning: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/courses • Support us in the USA: http://www.premierinsight.org/unbelievableshow • Support us in the rest of the world: https://www.premierunbelievable.com/donate

Our special guest for our final episode of the year is our good friend Faris Yakob. He and his wife Rosie are the force behind the consultancy Genius Steals, a nomadic strategic and creative consultancy. Faris is also the author of a book about how advertising works through the lens of the concept of attention. It's called, Paid Attention which is now in its 2nd edition. He has been at a variety of media and advertising agencies throughout his career, including Naked Communications, McCann Erickson, MDC Partners and helped to found many others. He writes for Campaign, Fast Company, Contagious and other publications. And he thinks deeply about the state of the ad world - how its changing, what it does, how it does it, and what it means for us all. He sat down to talk to us before Thanksgiving about how media planning works, how brands and advertisers think about audiences, and how the stories we tell about youth cultures have been recycled and subtly upgraded since the invention of the teenager, to fulfill the hopes and dreams of not only the corporations who want them to buy stuff, but just as importantly, the people who make advertising and want to believe it is capable of doing something good in the world. This is our last episode of the year - we wish you a very happy and relaxing holiday season, and send our best wishes for the New Year. There was a time when the presumption of democracy — that the people were rational and guided our democracy to reasoned conclusions — was true. Or tru-ish. In this episode, we speak with the authors of one of the most important work studying this relatively healthy period, Ben Page and Robert Shapiro. Their 1992 book — The Rational Public — presented an enormous amount of evidence demonstrating how democracy worked. We discuss what made that working possible.

Time stamps:Martin Wolf 1.35Nouriel Roubini 27.37Ben Page 51.10Eithne O' Leary 66.14The latest podcast in this series supported by Stifel is on the subject of the crisis of democratic capitalism. This is the title of the new book by The Financial Times' lead economics commentator Martin Wolf. His book analyzes in great detail what he thinks has gone wrong with the system used by most of us in the free West. It's a great read and he shows us how citizenship and a shared faith in the common good are not just romantic slogans but the only ideas that can sustain political and economic freedom. There's plenty of Abraham Lincoln in there from “of the people, by the people, for the people” to his wonderful expression about using “the better angels of our nature.” These themes are also discussed with star economist, Nouriel Roubini aka Doctor Doom. His recently published book Megathreats - the ten trends that imperil our future and how to survive them isn't a barrel of laughs and not for those of an anxious disposition. But he did come up with an extraordinary explanation for why China will own Siberia in years to come - Siberian women prefer Chinese guys because they're not permanently drunk and have better financial prospects. To balance these commentators we have some real world wisdom from someone who has to run a European business in 2023. Eithne O'Leary, the President of Stifel, Europe is more optimistic that with some Abe Lincolnesque spirit our system can pull through before it tears itself apart. And old friend of Jericho, Ben Page, now the global CEO of Ipsos-Mori tells us what the world is thinking at ground level. 72% of his global survey group think their government will "let them down" in the future. (And that includes people polled within authoritarian regimes like China.) Almost 6 out of ten think yesterday was better than today. Oh, dear. Oh, dear.

After just 41 days in office, a number of Liz Truss's own MPs are already publicly calling on her to quit, with many more echoing the sentiment in private. Normally, a Tory leader has one year before they can be voted out, but the rules can be changed if enough MPs write to the backbenchers' 1922 committee. Ben Page, Chief Executive of the Ipsos polling agency, tells Tom Mackenzie and Caroline Hepker it's hard to overstate the negative impact Liz Truss has had on the Conservative party's poll numbers.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We know Ben Page will certainly appreciate the ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast' (Drucker) reference! Jasper and Ray also give the lowdown on customers' changing relationships with money and their banks, how the ‘value equation' is evolving, and what that means for brands. Welcome to our third podcast series. I've taken a while to get myself in gear for this one and that is mainly to my own pressurising and sometimes paralysing standards and expectations – I'm sure we can all relate to that at times! I'm really pleased that the first full episode of this series (episode 2) can be Ben Page. For this episode we had the chance to chat with Ben Page. Ben was one of our trainers in LA in 2020 as myself and Moose began our journey to become Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and among many things he is now, also a published author. 2021 saw the release of his book, ‘Healing Trees; a pocket guide to forest bathing.' Ben's book is beautiful and comforting. Delivered in short, easy to read chunks, it is an easy read not because it is simple, but because it just flows and tricks you into reading more than you intended. His text flows in and out of dreamy illustrations and weaves its way into your soul – all done in a relaxing green shade of text! As Ben points out, this is not a book that you are checking how much more there is to read as you go along, you can just read it and enjoy. Fun fact - Ben loves cats and due to lockdowns, now knows most of the cats in his neighbourhood…. one of the unexpected facts we learnt about Ben during this recording! There is a little bit of interference during the recording, not too bad, but I feel I should acknowledge it, I think three time zones and my wonky Highland internet was too much for our platform! There is also one or two naughty words – sorry, they don't normally get past the trees, but they did this time. You can find more information about Ben at www.integralforestbathing.com More About Highland Quietlife Nature heals...sitting, sharing space with nature, admiring beauty or simply playing amongst it...nature is awesome.

Plus, our resident Nowhere Office expert, Julia Hobsbawm, gives us a rundown of her working life.

This week is the first of our ‘News Roundtable' episodes, where our host Chris Wright discusses the week's biggest issues with journalists and decision-makers. In this episode Chris is joined by Alastair Campbell, writer, strategist, and former Downing Street communications chief; Ben Page, chief executive of Ipsos MORI; and Nazir Afzal OBE, former chief crown prosecutor who has worked on some of the most high profile cases in the country. The discussion kicks off with the controversy surrounding Dominic Cummings, where we weigh in on his role in awarding a government contract worth £500,000 to “friends”, debating whether this was pure inefficiency on their part or in fact, total dishonesty to the public. Together we address the recent enforcement of Quarantine hotels for travellers, asking if this is punishment or medical necessity and exchange views on whether the overwhelming presence of Covid-19 in the media and our daily lives, is detracting from a more serious assessment of the Brexit deal.Created and produced by Podcast Partners: www.podcastpartners.comSign up to receive updates by email when a new episode drops at: www.wrightonthenail.fm

In case you are wondering, you are a conscious being. Have you ever asked what exactly is consciousness? And which particular things in the universe are conscious? Perhaps you think only souls can be conscious. Or maybe you think that material objects can be conscious. Whatever view you take, you need to ask where does consciousness comes from. In today's episode, I sit down with Ben Page to discuss a family of arguments for the existence of God based on the existence of consciousness. Credits: Host: R.T.
