What if the biggest threat to your strategy isn't a competitor, a budget cut, or AI?What if it's busyness? In this Sharp Cut, Marc Binkley and Vassilis Douros tackle one of marketing and leadership's biggest comfort blankets: the belief that activity equals progress.Drawing on the work of Roger Martin, Richard Rumelt, Michael Porter, Henry Mintzberg, and decades of research in strategy, psychology, and organizational behaviour, they explore why so many companies mistake plans, initiatives, and corporate buzzwords for actual strategy. The conversation unpacks:Why strategy is fundamentally a series of choicesHow organizations become trapped in the illusion of progressWhy indecision is often the most common strategic outcomeThe hidden cost of strategic ambiguityWhat B2B buying behaviour can teach us about leadershipWhy marketing departments produce more content than ever while achieving less impactHow AI accelerates both good strategy and bad strategyThree practical actions leaders can take immediately to make better strategic decisionsThis episode is ultimately about one uncomfortable truth:Most organizations don't have a strategy problem. They have a choice problem. And until they're willing to make difficult choices, strategy remains little more than activity wearing a strategy costume.TakeawaysMost strategies presented are often just lists of initiatives.Real strategy involves making explicit choices and trade-offs.Indecision can be a strategy, but it's not an effective one.Ambiguity can be useful short-term but harmful long-term.Fluffy language often indicates a lack of real strategy.Marketing and strategy should be aligned for effectiveness. The say-do gap reflects a disconnect in organizational goals.AI can exacerbate existing strategic issues if not managed properly.Effective strategy requires clear, actionable frameworks.Leaders must be willing to make specific, falsifiable choices.Chapters00:00 - The Illusion of Strategy03:13 - Defining Real Strategy05:49 - The Challenge of Decision-Making08:49 - Indecision as a Strategy11:59 - The Role of Ambiguity in Strategy14:50 - The Cost of Fluffy Language17:48 - Marketing and Strategy Alignment21:04 - The Say-Do Gap in Organizations23:52 - The Impact of AI on Strategy27:03 - Practical Steps for Effective StrategyReferencesCappellaro, G., Compagni, A., & Vaara, E. Ein ausgeschlafenes Hallo allerseits, willkommen zum wichtigsten Gespräch des Jahres 2025! Strengt euch an. Čo by ľudom a zamestnávateľom skutočne pomohlo?

In this episode, we take the timeless insights of Peter Drucker and ask a simple question: what should HR and OD actually do with them? Drawing from The Daily Drucker, we focus on a few ideas that still hit hard. First, the purpose of any organization is to create a customer—so if HR isn't helping the business win externally, it's missing the point. We also challenge the overused idea that culture “just happens.” Drucker's thinking pushes OD to shape the daily behaviors that drive results—not just talk about them. Then there's accountability. Drucker saw management as a discipline. For HR, that means stepping beyond support roles and helping leaders make better, tougher decisions. And finally, focus. In a world of endless initiatives, Drucker's message is clear: do fewer things that matter—and do them well. This isn't about quoting Drucker. It's about applying him—and pressure-testing where his ideas still hold up, and where they might fall short.

Talkin‘ Politics & Religion Without Killin‘ Each Other

What do voters actually want? And does what happens on social media have anything to do with it? David Drucker spent his twenties running his parents' manufacturing businesses in East LA. He was paying workers' comp, dealing with state regulations, signing the checks. Then he became a political journalist. That backstory turns out to matter. In this conversation, the senior writer at The Dispatch joins Corey to talk about what it means to cover American politics from the ground up. Drucker has built his career on getting out of Washington and talking to actual voters, and what he finds there consistently upends the assumptions of the media and political class. Most people are not as angry as your social media feed suggests. Most people have nuanced, complicated views. And most of them are voting on one thing: whether their lives are getting better or worse. The conversation ranges from the craft of journalism and the culture of The Dispatch to the internal fault lines of the MAGA coalition, the 2026 midterms, and the U.S. war in Iran. Drucker's analysis is sharp, his sourcing is deep, and his instinct, shaped by years of traveling the country, is to trust voters more than pundits. David Drucker is a senior writer at The Dispatch, based in Washington, D.C. Before joining in 2023, he was a senior correspondent at the Washington Examiner, a reporter at Roll Call, and covered California politics and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from the Sacramento bureau of the Los Angeles Daily News. He is the author of In Trump's Shadow and a regular presence on cable news and nationally syndicated radio. Most Americans hold more nuanced, less partisan views than social media suggests, and they vote accordingly. The Ground Truth: There is no substitute for traveling and talking to voters in their own communities. Drucker has built a career on it. The alternative is reporting from inside an echo chamber. MAGA Voters Are Not Isolationists: They're against wars we lose. They're perfectly fine with projecting American power against bad actors. The vocal anti-war voices on the MAGA right are a minority within the coalition, not its center of gravity. The Economy Is the Election: Voters put Trump back in the White House expecting him to replicate his first-term economy. They don't think he's done that. That perception will drive the 2026 midterms. Politicians Are in the Service Business: They do what they believe they must to keep their jobs. Voters who complain about dysfunction are often sending contradictory signals, demanding results while simultaneously demanding that their representatives refuse to deal. The Dispatch as a Model: Drucker describes a publication built on being correct rather than fast, on traveling to where the story is, on editing everything twice, and on a business model not driven by clicks. AI and Journalism: Drucker doesn't use AI in his writing or drafting, and he doesn't trust it yet. He wants to see the original source material, not a summary. The Coalition Problem After Trump: Trump is just populistic enough for the populists and just normal enough for the normies. That is a unique skill. The next Republican nominee will not automatically inherit the coalition he built. Links and Resources The Dispatch: thedispatch.com David M. Ende 2014 in Culver City bei Los Angeles. Man könnte ja meinen, Drucker seien seit mindestens 20 Jahren ausentwickelt.

A concise overview of fertility technology—its history, practical applications, and ethical and social implications around the world. In the late 1850s, a physician in New York City used a syringe and glass tube to inject half a drop of sperm into a woman's uterus, marking the first recorded instance of artificial insemination. From that day forward, doctors and scientists have turned to technology in ever more innovative ways to facilitate conception. Fertility Technology (MIT Press, 2023) surveys this history in all its medical, practical, and ethical complexity, and offers a look at state-of-the-art fertility technology in various social and political contexts around the world. Donna J. Drucker's concise and eminently readable account introduces the five principal types of fertility technologies used in human reproduction—artificial insemination; ovulation timing; sperm, egg, and embryo freezing; in vitro fertilization; and IVF in uterine transplants—discussing the development, manufacture, dispersion, and use of each. Geographically, it focuses on countries where innovations have emerged and countries where these technologies most profoundly affect individuals and population policies. Drucker's wide-ranging perspective reveals how these technologies, used for birth control as well as conception in many cases, have been critical in shaping the moral, practical, and political meaning of human life, kinship, and family in different nations and cultures since the mid-nineteenth century. What if the future of marketing is a lot more human than we think? Today's guest, Mark Schaefer, has been shaping that future for decades — and he was actually on this show ten years ago. So this is part reunion, part masterclass. Mark's a futurist, bestselling author, Rutgers faculty member, and Drucker-trained strategist whose ideas guide brands from Adidas to the U.S. Air Force. His ten books and his top-ranked show The Marketing Companion have become industry staples. He's also a longtime friend who somehow manages to push your thinking and make you laugh at the same time. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why the future of marketing belongs to the most human companies, not the most automated ones How AI can scale trust, creativity, and teaching without killing the brand When removing friction actually damages customer relationships Why curiosity is becoming the most important career skill in the AI era How marketers must act as brand defenders when technology pushes too far Episode Chapters (00:00) Reunion and why this moment matters (02:00) Why this is the most amazing — and unsettling — time in marketing (04:20) Scaling humanity with AI and the MarkBot experiment (07:30) The most human company wins (and what that really means) (10:40) When AI goes too far and brands lose trust (12:30) Harley-Davidson, friction, and knowing your customer deeply (17:00) Curiosity as a career strategy in an AI world (27:00) The brand that made Mark smile About Mark Schaefer Mark Schaefer is a globally recognized futurist, keynote speaker, educator, and bestselling author. With more than 30 years of experience in marketing, PR, and global sales, he has advised organizations ranging from startups to Adidas and the U.S. Air Force. Mark studied under Peter Drucker, teaches in Rutgers University's graduate program, and holds seven patents. He is the author of ten influential books used at universities worldwide and the host of the top-ranked podcast, The Marketing Companion. Known for blending sharp insight with humanity and humor, Mark's work helps leaders navigate what's next without losing what matters. What Brand Has Made Mark Smile Recently? Mark couldn't stop smiling about Nutter Butter — a once-forgotten cookie brand that decided to go full weird. By embracing surreal, chaotic, almost inexplicable short-form videos, the brand ditched boring category conventions and leaned into creativity with nothing to lose. The result? Tripled sales and a case study in what happens when brands stop playing it safe and start being interesting. Resources & Links Connect with Mark on LinkedIn. Check out his website, BusinessesGrow. What if the biggest risk isn't failure—it's staying down when life knocks you flat? Marshall Goldsmith didn't become the world's #1 executive coach by accident. He sat in the back of Paul Hersey's classroom for months serving coffee for free, studied under Peter Drucker, and learned that credibility must be earned twice: first by doing good work, and second by making sure people know about it.From IU Kelley School of Business to coaching CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, Marshall reveals why happiness and achievement are independent variables, why your good work will never speak for itself, and why the hungry ghost—always eating but never full—is the trap that catches every high achiever.
