Cardy, Matt, and Dale are here to talk about some sneaky boys. 007 First Light is the new James Bond game, and we've got plenty of thoughts about how it's looking. Then there's Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater; a remake of a great game, but is it the one we wanted? And then there's Bloober Team's latest survival horror Cronos: The New Dawn which sounds mostly miserable, but still fun. In this episode of Historical Happy Hour, bestselling author Jane Healey welcomes fellow novelist Camille Di Maio to discuss her new release, Come Fly With Me—a richly researched and heartfelt novel set in the glamorous world of 1960s Pan Am stewardesses. Di Maio shares the serendipitous origin of the book, penned partly on a liquor store bag in Tahiti, and describes her immersive journey into the world of the World Wings International alumnae. From training regimens and rigid stewardess rules to tales of Sophia Loren's elegance in-flight, Camille dives into the fascinating lives of mid-20th-century women with a dual-timeline narrative that blends friendship, reinvention, and mystery. Aspiring writers will also appreciate her insights on writing without outlines, editing, and getting published with humility and grit.

Hey Small Wonder Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered Season Episodes 5-8. S4E5: Come Fly With Me, which aired on October 22, 1988. In this episode the Lawson's accompany Brandon and Harriet on a flight to Florida (business reasons) when their flight is hijacked. Art Linkletter guest stars. I thought this episode was clever and humorous in some scenes. S4E6: Love At First Byte, which aired on October 29, 1988. In this episode Vicki falls for a computer program called L.E.S., that Ted installs in the family computer, unaware that L.E.S.'s growing attraction to Vicki takes a possessive and controlling turn, leading the family to take drastic measures to save Vicki. S4E7: The Sheik, which aired on November 5, 1988. In this episode, Ted and the family entertain a Sheik who intends to do business with the Robotics company that Ted works for, however when the Sheik sets his sights on marrying Vicki (to go along with his 4 other wives) this kid is 13 BTW, Ted has to decide if he can save Vicki from a lifetime of servitude (like she doesn't already have that with the Lawsons) marriage to a 13 year old boy or risk a business venture between his company and the Middle East. S4E8: Togetherness, which aired on November 12, 1988. In this episode the Brindles and the Lawsons compete on Beat Thy Neighbor, a gameshow. This was a fun episode. I hope you enjoy the episodes and I'll be back in late March with episodes S4E9-S4E12.

The Jungle Bird is a cocktail you need to be familiar with, especially if you struggle with that bottle of Campari that's staring at you from your bar cart. This tiki drink makes excellent use of our bitter friend in a way that will please even the most hateful of Campari haters – and we feel bad for the haters (please don't hate). Uncle Brad goes into the surprising origins of the Jungle Bird and, of course, gives us the real deal recipe while Jules hits us with a Kentucky twist. Stick around for the excellent tip inspired by @aberryx TIP: What are some rimmers and garnishes you can make on your own? You've dropped the car off at the airport car park, been processed through security, boarded the plane and you can now relax and look forward to your flight. You observe the cabin crew helping passengers , closing the overhead compartments and preparing for the pre-flight safety demonstration. Have you ever wondered what it must be like working for an airline? Here to answer that question I'm joined by Steve Snow. Steve has spent his career in the airline industry with British Airways right through from trainee to senior management. This week Nicola and Di chat with the fascinating travel expert, Captain Greg Fitzgerald. Greg had an incredible career with Qantas, where he flew for 35 years. He was involved in some pretty amazing flights during that time and shares with us some great stories. After retiring from Qantas during the pandemic, Greg was offered the opportunity to work with Antarctica Flights and provide historical commentary for flights over Antarctica, another passion of his. And it's not just flying that Greg loves, he's also involved with Vintage Rail Journeys, where he takes 5-day train tours on the old Southern Aurora. Greg is also a husband to Donna, his wife of 40 years and they have 3 wonderful daughters. In this chat, we hear how Greg was initially knocked back from Qantas, but how that setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because it gave him the experience of flying regionally in Papua New Guinea. Not deterred by his knock back, Greg reapplied to Qantas years later where he ended up working for 35 years. Not only that, he became a key part of Qantas pilot recruitment. We hear what it takes to be a pilot for Qantas and the rigorous process and testing they go through. Greg shares what the most frightening experience was for him as a pilot, as well as some of his proudest and most memorable moments. We hear what it was like to fly burn victims back to safety after the Bali bombings in 2002, the covert operation Greg was a part of during the Iraq war and the rescue flight he captained from Wuhan back to Australia in February 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Greg was also involved in one of the stand-out moments in recent aviation history, when he was part of the crew that flew the last Qantas 747 jumbo from Sydney to the Mojave desert. He tells the story of the planning that went into that special day and how emotional it was to farewell the 747 aircraft. It was so great chatting to Greg about all of his travels and hearing how passionate he still is about exploring Antarctica and beyond. We hope you will feel as inspired as we did by all of his tales. In this episode, we say goodbye to 2023 and I'm bringing along five amazing artists to help me do just that! Saloon Singer Christopher Collette is a fresh face on the New York cabaret and nightclub scene. His most recent show, “Come Fly with Me: Songs of Travel, Trips, Tours & Treks” was an acclaimed success at The Laurie Beechman Theater in November. A classical pianist by training, he stepped out from behind the keyboard and took center stage in 2018 with his debut performance “This Could be the Start of Something Big: A Saloon Singer is Born” at the Beechman. Subsequent shows took the old-school crooner to Palm Springs, California where he staged multiple productions that celebrated the enduring tunes from the extensive catalogue of the Great American Songbook and America musical theater. Previously, Collette headlined at the Beechman with his revue of Stephen Sondheim's works, “Old Friends: Merrily Rolling Along in the Meanwhile.” Additionally, this past summer he mounted a workshop reading of Kander & Ebb's songbook, “One Good Break” and has been a guest at Jim Caruso's “Cast Party” at Birdland. He studies voice with Neal Harrelson-Keyes and has participated in master classes with Marilyn Maye, Faith Prince, and Alex Rybeck Prince Fleet was born in Akron Ohio where he started his show business career at the age of 5 singing with a local orchestra. Fleet went on to appear in many musicals at the Goodyear Musical Theater. Prince Fleet was a ballet dancer in New York and studied at American Ballet Theater, Ballet Arts and master classes at Julliard. He studies voice with Neal Harrelson-Keyes and has participated in master classes with Marilyn Maye, Faith Prince, and Alex Rybeck Prince Fleet went on to appear in many musicals at the Goodyear Musical Theater. Prince Fleet was a ballet dancer in New York and studied at American Ballet Theater, Ballet Arts and master classes at Julliard. Fleet studied film and tv acting at the Huntington Acting School and with several acting coaches. Fleet has appeared in many film and television shows. Prince Fleet has toured nationally. On Dec 9th 2016 he received STAR 407 on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. Back in May, when I listed my best, most disappointing, most surprising and thinkiest books I had read to that point, I had no idea what I was in for. Since that time I have averaged a bit more than one book a day. That translates to, well, a lot of books. And they weren't all winners. I was able to derive some benefit from everything I read. However, some of my choices did not deliver nearly as much as I had hoped. These are those books. Enjoy. 10. The Map that Changed the World, Simon Winchester.9. Live to Tell, Brad J. Kellenberg8. See pictures and read more on materiallyspeaking.comThe long, narrow, glass-walled studio of Janice Mehlman is perched half way up the steep garden of her home, on a hillside near Pietrasanta. Many of her abstract photographs are hung on crisp white walls, and she welcomes us inside to look at some of her work from the last 30 years. She explains how she started as a photographer, focusing on black-and-white images of architecture. After creating an image that captured a chance moment of light on a discarded photographic proof in her waste bin, she started to incorporate objects into her compositions. She shows us her workbench, where she finds inspiration. When light from the window shines in, it illuminates a cornucopia of materials in every colour and texture. We see swimwear, hats, netting and fluorescent wrapping – all glittering in the morning sun.Janice explains how her work has evolved over the years, particularly in relation to her exploration of her sensuality and sexuality as a woman. She talks about using her own intimate garments and other objects to create compositions that reflect her inner soul. She also recounts how her work has responded to different experiences, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and shows us a few pieces from that series. We hear how she was inspired by a disastrous trip to Chicago to create one of her most acclaimed series of work, choosing to find the positive even in adversity.janicemehlman.orginstagram.com/janicemehlman

When flying, it's important to be mindful of your fellow passengers and practice good flight etiquette. This means being respectful of their space, keeping noise levels to a minimum, and following the rules set by the airline staff. Avoid hogging the armrests, reclining your seat too far back, or taking up too much space in the overhead bins. Remember to use headphones when watching movies or listening to music, and avoid talking loudly on the phone or with your travel companions. And of course, always be polite and considerate to those around you. We want to hear from you... How would you rate yourself as a flyer? Please leave us a 5 Star Review on Apple Podcasts and Spotify
