The future is now. Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with three up-and-coming female racers who are already making names for themselves on the grassroots level. Lanie Buice, Jade Avedisian, and Isabella Robusto sit down with Dale Jr. to share their stories and make it known that their names are ones to remember.First, Dale Jr. sits down with CARS Tour driver Lanie Buice. Buice is a first-generation talent who shares what kinds of challenges come with breaking into the racing scene. Dale became easily impressed by Lanie's speed after racing against her at Florence and was taken aback by her ability to go out and make lap time. The stage is never too big for Buice, and she will be one to watch in the coming years as she continues to hone in on her abilities.  Next, Dale Jr. welcomed in dirt and asphalt racer Jade Avedisian. At the young age of 18, Jade has already made appearances in the Tulsa Shootout, Chili Bowl, and the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Tour, where she won the national championship. Dale made note of Jade's impressive tenacity and confidence she shows on any given weekend, and learns more about where she gets those abilities from. Avedisian also opened up about her return from a concussion and how she made the decision to step out of the car to focus on her recovery. If you weren't a fan before, you will be now.  Finally, Dale chats with ARCA driver Isabella Robusto. She and her twin brother grew up racing each other, both rising through the ranks as young race car drivers. Isabella caught her first big break when she entered the Drive For Diversity Program, which propelled her to a deal with Toyota Racing Development. She discusses having to step out of the car for 10 months for recovery from a concussion and explains why that time away from the car only reaffirmed her passion to drive race cars. Dale also provides her with advice ahead of her debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend. She is wicked fast on the track and is only getting better with every lap she runs.  Dirty Mo Media is launching a new e-commerce merch line! Warren: Josh Buice, founder of the G3 Conference and pastor of Pray's Mill Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia, was placed on indefinite leave last week after church leaders “uncovered irrefutable evidence that Dr. Buice has, for the past three years, operated at least four anonymous social media accounts, two anonymous email addresses, and two Substack platforms.” According to a statement from the church. “These accounts were used to publicly and anonymously slander numerous Christian leaders, including faithful pastors (some of whom have spoken at G3 conferences), several PMBC elders, and others,” “These actions were not only sinful in nature but deeply divisive, causing unnecessary suspicion and strife within the body of Christ, and particularly within the eldership of PMBC.” Natasha: Buice has also resigned as president of G3, which was founded in 2019 and brought in $2.3 million in revenue for the 2023 calendar year, according to its public IRS financial disclosures. Warren: Buice especially criticized former Southern Baptist ethicist Russell Moore and Bible teacher Beth Moore (not related) for allegedly promoting liberal ideas in the church, as well as former SBC President Ed Litton for alleged sermon plagiarism.  In episode 115, my guest, Lauren Buice who is an adolescent and young adult counselor, and I defined achievement culture and discussed how teens are overwhelmed by all they must achieve and be to apply for college. She described the dangerous outcome associated with achievement culture: anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.  Lauren has returned for another episode to share strategies for teens & parents who are navigating the hoops of achievement culture. I share a few quotes from Jennifer Breheny Wallace's book, "Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic and What We Can Do About It" for Lauren to respond to. Notable quotes from this interview with Lauren Buice: * "Achievement culture is affecting parents too." * "Failure is, and can be, a teacher. But shame is not. Shame is not a teacher." * "I tell parents, 'Wouldn't you rather them learn what it's like to fail and how to deal with that now versus when they are an adults and the stakes are much higher?'"  Lauren shares five strategies for teens and parents that are challenging, but they will have a big impact if they are consistently put into practice.  Lauren chose Colossians 3:23 as a helpful "fight verse" for teen who are in the muck of achievement culture. It reads, "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord and not human masters."Send me a COMMENT or QUESTION!THANK YOU FOR LISTENING! Have a comment about this episode? To kick off season 7 of the Challenges Won't Stop Me podcast, adolescent and young adult counselor Lauren Buice at Rise Therapy in Roswell, GA is joining me to discuss the challenge of achievement culture, specifically as it relates to teens who desire to further their education in college. Type "achievement culture in teens" into Google, and 357,00 results populate within seconds. That is a significant number. As I perused the topics and clicked on several, very few of those articles or blog posts shared any positive outcomes of achievement culture in teens. That is concerning! Throughout this interview, Lauren shared research and statistics regarding achievement culture in teens which she learned about in Jennifer Breheny Wallace's book, Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic and What We Can Do About It. Notable quotes from this episode with Lauren Buice:  "Achievement culture is basically this mindset . . . their self-worth, their identity is tied to what they achieve. Anything like that becomes central to who they are. And it leads to a lot of comparison and low self-esteem. We're seeing ties between achievement culture, and kids that are overachievers and driven by that, and things like anxiety, depression, and substance abuse." ". . . the people that feel they are truly happy are the people that are surrounded by really healthy relationships. They feel like they matter to people . . . we have to matter on the inside - who we are at our core - more than just what we can accomplish." "We need to raise compassionate humans. We need to raise good citizens, not just high achieving ones." "They matter to God. Their identity is in Christ. It'snot in all these external things." Send me a COMMENT or QUESTION!THANK YOU FOR LISTENING! Have a comment about this episode? Click HERE and complete the form.

Segment 2, August 31st, 2024 This is a huge weekend in the outdoor realm. Monday, September 2nd kicks off the first stage of Dove Season in both Carolinas.  Host Bill Bartee discusses opening day, safety, and gains advice from James Buice of Buice & Associates, a specialty sales firm covering the southeast.  Buice has fished & hunted around the world but brings it back local for the upcoming dove. Hunting of migratory game birds, including doves, by any method is not allowed on Sundays. It is illegal to dove hunt with a shotgun that can hold more than three shells unless it is plugged with a one-piece filler incapable of removal without disassembling the gun. Hunting safety is a priority when in the field. Free hunter safety courses are available through NCWRC. Wildlife Law Enforcement Officers advise dove hunters to follow these safety tips: Adhere to established safe zones of fire. Ensure you have the correct ammunition for your firearm. Keep the muzzle of your firearm pointed in a safe direction. Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Do not shoot at low-flying birds. Do not place decoys on utility lines. Hunters can purchase or renew their license and obtain their HIP certification online for immediate use in the field. Hunters can also purchase and renew their license at a Wildlife Service Agent office. It is a violation of state and federal law to take migratory game birds with the use or aid of salt, grain, fruit or any other bait. Additionally, hunters need to be aware that an area is considered baited for 10 days following the removal of all salt, grain or other feed. Migratory game birds may be hunted in agricultural areas where grain has been distributed as the result of normal agricultural operations. Information regarding agriculture and planting techniques may be obtained from a local N.C. State Extension Center. Visit the agency's website to view an interactive map of game land dove fields. Show Highlights: Dove hunting is often times a social sport unlike deer and turkey Many times a social dove hunt includes lunch for attendees Have the grains and salts removed ten days prior to the beginning of the season Buice likes sunflowers, millet, & milo for his fields Know where everyone is & always shoot at blue sky Do not shoot low Dove hunting season will be separated into three segments: Sept. 2 - Oct. 5, Nov. 9 - Nov. 30 and Dec. 16 - Jan. 31, 2025. The daily bag limit is 15 mourning or white-winged doves, either as single species or combined, and shooting hours are from 30 minutes before sunrise to sunset. Take care of your dogs regarding weather.  Keep them hydrated and cool in the heat & protected in the cold Things You'll Learn by Listening: Dove hunting season will be separated into three segments: Sept. 2 - Oct. 5, Nov. 9 - Nov. 30 and Dec. 16 - Jan. 31, 2025. Migratory game bird hunters, including lifetime license holders, are required to register in the federal Harvest Information Program (HIP). HIP certification is available July 1 – April 1 and expires June 30 each year. The subject of racism and the influence of wokeness on the Church is a topic that stirs emotions and sparks passionate discussions. In this podcast episode, the guys have an in-depth dialogue with Josh Buice, founder and president of G3 Ministries, to explore these crucial matters and their impact on the Church. Josh Buice provides an insightful exploration of the impact of wokeness on the Church. As a strong advocate for the gospel's unifying power, he sheds light on the divisive nature of wokeness, which rather than fostering unity, further fractures the Church. Buice emphasizes the importance of adhering to God's Word as the ultimate guide for justice, a crucial message in the wake of the rising popularity of the woke agenda. The conversation also navigates the transformative journey of G3 Ministries, which originated from a humble church campus and evolved into a resonating voice that champions biblical truth. This journey is a testament to the power of faith and commitment to standing firm in the face of shifting societal norms. In discussing the impact of wokeness on the Church, the episode brings to the fore the issues of the “Me Too” and “Church Too” movements, and the increasing endorsement of critical race theory in the Southern Baptist Convention. The conversation presents a critical examination of the concept of intersectionality and its role in the wokeness movement. The discussion provides listeners with the necessary tools to understand and resist harmful ideologies. It emphasizes the need for a fortified theology of justice and the importance of a classical education in equipping young people to defend their faith. The podcast concludes with a reflection on Christian leadership in a changing society. In the face of the growing influence of social justice on the Christian faith, it stresses the importance of applying God's Word as the ultimate guide for justice, as opposed to the trend of social gospel justice influenced by cultural Marxism. This podcast episode is a call for all Christians to actively engage in discussions around wokeness, racism, and the Church's role in justice. It encourages listeners to not only listen and learn but to actively engage in this crucial conversation. The power to resist harmful ideologies lies not just in awareness but in understanding and action. This episode was recorded at G3 2023 National Conference. Thanks for listening! Facing Adversity: Reactor or Responder?" is an empowering exploration into our own emotional and psychological reactions during times of stress and adversity. In this episode, I'll dive into the fascinating distinction between reactors and responders, as described by Dr. Brett McCabe in his book "Break Free from Suckville". As we navigate the often turbulent waters of life, we may act as reactors, seeking avoidance and short-term relief, or as responders, embracing uncertainty and working through adversity with a long-term view. How we handle these situations can profoundly affect our personal growth, success, and overall happiness. I dive into the nuances of these two approaches and share powerful insights on how shifting from a reactor to a responder mindset can fundamentally change our lives for the better. I share my personal journey from reactor to responder, discussing the challenges I faced, the lessons I learned, and the transformations I experienced along the way. If you're feeling overwhelmed by the trials of life, if you're looking for ways to handle stress more effectively, or if you're simply interested in personal development and growth, this episode is for you. You'll gain actionable strategies to help you tackle adversity head-on, learn to see uncertainty as an opportunity for growth, and ultimately, become the hero of your own story. Don't miss this episode. It may change how you view adversity, inspire you to take control of your life, and might just be the push you need to break free from the limits you've set for yourself. Tune in and start your journey toward becoming a responder today!Welcome to the Marsh Buice Podcast, where we equip you with the number one life skill, mastering the art of selling your way through life. Hopefully this week's guest has already forgiven me for butchering both the pronunciation and spelling of his last name, even though I had them written in front of me.His name is Jason Buice and he's a son, a brother, a husband, a musician, a bandmate, and a heck of a nice guy.He was kind enough to drive in from LFK to record Episode #65 with me, and boy was our conversation a fascinating one.We of course talked about a few of Jason's favorite albums, and they are these:Thriller (1982), Michael JacksonU2's The Unforgettable Fire (1984)Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me (1987), The CureNirvana's Nevermind (1991)OK Computer (1997), RadioheadBut we also talked a little bit about Jason's path down the river of musicianship. For starters, you can find his solo EP, Both Sides (2019) on his bandcamp, and he's got a couple of other projects there, too. And we talked about his current project, Chowk, whom you can follow on Instagram, and I encourage you to do so as they have plans to record an album here in the coming weeks. Finally, if you're catching this is some form of real time, you can catch Chowk performing live on the radio on Sunday, May 14th on KKFI, 90.1 FM. They'll be on around 9:00 p.m. Central Standard as part of the Under the Radar program.Anyway, Jason's fantastic, and the vibe around Chowk feels like they're gonna be, too, so check him and them out, and don't forget to visit the Merch' store on the Web site. You should totally hook yourself up with a Fresh Socks t-shirt.Thanks for stopping by.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the promo or the intro/outro audio. Buice talks about the weather's affect on the gobbling activity & encourages hunters to be patient because the birds are there. He also tells hunters to be ready to be mobile.  Sitting & waiting at this point in the season is not the answer. Bartee asks about over-calling birds & Buice says that he believes in calling because it helps strike up a conversation with the bird. During the conversation, with James waiting to catch a plane for a New Mexico-turkey hunting trip, he speaks of the western Meriam sub-species versus what we have in the Carolinas, with the Eastern sub-species of turkey.

Abstract: A major goal of computational neuroscience is to build accurate models of the activity of neurons that can be used to interpret their function in circuits. Here, we explore using functional cell types to refine single-cell models by grouping them into functionally relevant classes. Formally, we define a hierarchical generative model for cell types, single-cell parameters, and neural responses, and then derive an expectation-maximization algorithm with variational inference that maximizes the likelihood of the neural recordings. We apply this "simultaneous" method to estimate cell types and fit single-cell models from simulated data, and find that it accurately recovers the ground truth parameters. We then apply our approach to in vitro neural recordings from neurons in mouse primary visual cortex, and find that it yields improved prediction of single-cell activity. We demonstrate that the discovered cell-type clusters are well separated and generalizable, and thus amenable to interpretation. We then compare discovered cluster memberships with locational, morphological, and transcriptomic data. Our findings reveal the potential to improve models of neural responses by explicitly allowing for shared functional properties across neurons. Copy rights belong to original authors. Though novel stimuli powerfully affect brain activity, their impact on specific cell types and circuits is not well understood. Disinhibition is one candidate mechanism for novelty-induced enhancements in activity. Here we characterize the impact of stimulus novelty on disinhibitory circuit components using longitudinal 2-photon calcium imaging of Vip, Sst, and excitatory populations in the mouse visual cortex. Mice learn a behavioral task with stimuli that become highly familiar, then are tested on both familiar and novel stimuli. Mice consistently perform the task with novel stimuli, yet responses to stimulus presentations and stimulus omissions are dramatically altered. Further, we find that novelty modifies coding of visual as well as behavioral and task information. At the population level, the direction of these changes is consistent with engagement of the Vip-Sst disinhibitory circuit. At the single cell level, we identify separate clusters of Vip, Sst, and excitatory cells with unique patterns of novelty-induced coding changes. This study and the accompanying open-access dataset reveals the impact of novelty on sensory and behavioral representations in visual cortical circuits and establishes novelty as a key driver of cellular functional diversity. Abstract: Rapid saccadic eye movements are used by animals to sample different parts of the visual scene. Previous work has investigated neural correlates of these saccades in visual cortical areas such as V1, however how saccade-responsive neurons are distributed across visual areas, cell types, and cortical layers has remained unknown. Through analyzing 818 one-hour experimental sessions from the Allen Brain Observatory, we present a large-scale analysis of saccadic behaviors in head-fixed mice and their neural correlates. We find that saccade-responsive neurons are present across visual cortex, but their distribution varies considerably by transgenically-defined cell type, cortical area, and cortical layer. We also find that saccade-responsive neurons do not exhibit distinct visual response properties from the broader neural population, suggesting the saccadic responses of these neurons is likely not predominantly visually-driven. These results provide insight into the roles played by different cell types within a broader, distributed network of sensory and motor interactions. Copy rights belong to original authors. I didn't blame or voice my frustrations, I cheered myself on, listened to positive messages, & fought like hell to not compare myself to others. Yet when the dust settled, Buice, the teacher, was dead last. The only thing I didn't do was ask for help. I dropped my pride & asked those who witnessed first hand me coming in last, “What am I doing wrong.” And they let me know. This was the day the teacher became the student. On today's episode of The Sales Life: Sales Edition I'll share with you 5 lessons I learned by finishing dead last. No matter what position you hold, it's always a good idea to be the student from time to time. Thank you for listening. I'd love to hear your takeaways and comments.
