In this episode of Identity Woman Podcast, Chantelle Branch delves into recognizing the internal signs of grief, exploring how it can manifest emotionally and mentally. With guest Y. Rena Cooper's candidness, listeners are guided to acknowledge their own grief as the first step toward healing. Cooper shares her journey of vulnerability, emphasizing that understanding where you stand emotionally is key to overcoming the impact of grief. It's a powerful reminder of self-awareness in the healing process. Y Rená Cooper founded "4 My Voice Matters" and recently ended September and kicked off October with a Candlelight Vigil. The Cherokee County District Attorney's Office announced the jury's verdict after a three-day trial. The charges stem from a February assault on McDaniel's girlfriend, during which he allegedly applied pressure to her neck, leaving visible marks. The victim, who escaped to a neighbor, reported incidents of domestic abuse. McDaniel will be sentenced in January. The case was investigated by the Cherokee Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Rachel Ashe. STORY 2: Canton Man Sentenced to 20 Years of Prison for Child Sexual Abuse Jonathan Ricky Millwood, a Canton man, has been sentenced to two decades in prison after pleading guilty to charges including two counts of aggravated sexual battery, one count of aggravated child molestation, and one count of child molestation. The Canton Police Department investigated the case, initiated in March 2023 when a girl under 10 reported inappropriate touching by Millwood. The child's disclosure led to forensic interviews, a Sexual Assault Nurse Exam confirming male DNA, and Millwood's guilty plea. He received a 20-year prison sentence without parole, life probation, and lifetime registration as a sex offender. Millwood is prohibited from contacting the victim or her family. STORY 3: Two CCSD Students Win State Academic Quiz Bowl Two students from Cherokee County School District secured first place in statewide academic quiz bowl competitions. Woodstock High School senior Owen Markette topped the social studies quiz bowl, focusing on early American history, while Creekview High School sophomore Thomas Wang secured first place in the spelling quiz bowl. These achievements were part of the Georgia Career and Technical Instruction program's Fall Leadership Conference, where students from across the state participated in various academic and leadership events. Both winners will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board for their achievements at an upcoming meeting. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. The award recognizes her excellence in career education, particularly for her role in the WBL program that allows high school students to earn school credit while working in a job related to their Career Pathway studies. Hembree has been serving as the WBL program coordinator at Sequoyah High School for seven years, contributing to the success of students like Emily Brown, who earned the 2023 Georgia WBL Student of the Year Award for the northwest region. STORY 5: Georgia General Assembly Passes Republican-Drawn Congressional Map The Georgia House has given final approval to a new congressional map in response to a federal judge's ruling that the current map violates the Voting Rights Act. The new map, passed along party lines by the Republican-controlled House, creates an additional Black-majority district in the western part of metro Atlanta, complying with the judge's order. Democrats argue that the map eliminates a "coalition" congressional district and accuse Republicans of political gerrymandering to maintain their 9-5 majority in Georgia's congressional delegation. The new maps for the state House and Senate were also adopted earlier in the week. Commercial: CHEROKEE CHAMBER – HELLER LAW STORY 6: Woodstock Woman Named Finalist for Georgia's Early Childhood Educators of the Year Donna Humphries, an early childhood educator from Woodstock, has been named a finalist for the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning's Toddler Teacher of the Year. This recognition is part of the state's Early Childhood Educators of the Year program, honoring outstanding teachers of children aged birth to preschool. Each finalist will receive $500, and winners, to be announced in December, will receive cash prizes for personal use, a classroom makeover, and funding for their school. The winners will serve as ambassadors for the program, highlighting effective classroom practices and making public speaking appearances. STORY 7: Candlelight Vigil to Remember Homeless Veterans Dec. 21 The Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program is hosting a candlelight vigil on December 21 at Cherokee Veterans Park to remember homeless veterans. The vigil, starting at 5:15 p.m., will include a moment of silence, prayer, and wreath-laying. The event aims to raise awareness about homelessness among veterans, with the program reporting a 32% increase in homeless veterans compared to the previous year. The public is invited to attend the vigil at the homeless veterans statue at Cherokee Veterans Park. The nonprofit emphasizes the growing concern for homeless female and senior veterans, as well as those with small children. Each year, in preparation for Police1's coverage of National Police Week, we speak with someone from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), the organization that built and continues to maintain the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. NLEOMF is a principal organizer of National Police Week events, including the annual Candlelight Vigil held each May 13 to honor all fallen officers. In addition, the Fund maintains the largest, most comprehensive database of line-of-duty officer deaths, conducts research into officer fatality trends and issues, and serves as an information clearinghouse.

On this latest episode of On the Job With PORAC, PORAC President Brian Marvel and Vice President Damon Kurtz invite California Peace Officers' Memorial Foundation (CPOMF) Executive Director Wayne Quint to welcome back the CPOMF ceremonies and National Police Week while also teasing of the new addition to the memorial.   ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About The CPOMF Ceremonies The California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremonies are held the first week of May at the California Peace Officers' Memorial Monument in Sacramento on State Capitol grounds. The ceremonies serve to formally enroll peace officers who have died in the line of duty the preceding year, pay tribute to the over 1500 officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice since California became a state, and to honor the families left behind. The ceremonies are a two-day event, beginning with a Candlelight Vigil at the Memorial Monument. At dusk families, friends, community members, and colleagues walk in solidarity to the Memorial Monument to remember and celebrate their fallen heroes. The next morning's formal ceremonial events include a memorial procession for law enforcement vehicles, a Walk of Honor for department representatives and immediate family members of officers being enrolled, and the Enrollment Ceremony, where the names of newly enrolled officers are formally added to the Memorial Monument. This beautiful and solemn ceremony incorporates many law enforcement traditions including a riderless horse presentation, the folding of the United States Flag, releasing of doves, and concludes with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps. Due to very limited seating, the Enrollment Ceremony is a ticketed event for designated family members and guests. Additional seating is provided so all who wish to attend in support of California's fallen heroes may view the ceremony on an adjacent large-screen television. Click Here to learn more about CPOMF.
