Lisa Lloyd will be the first to tell you that she's not a genius...though she certainly seems like one. She invented her first product at 23, a hair styling tool called The French Twister, which eventually grossed $20 million. And over the years, she went on to license seven other products; getting featured on Shark Tank, Good Morning America, USA Today, The Big Idea, and more before starting the Lisa Lloyd Marketing Group. She's also the Founder and Chief Innovation Officer at the Invention Accelerator, a program that helps busy innovators to get their ideas off the ground. But not all of those inventions turned out; in fact, Lisa had still been paying off the debt from one of her products until…pretty recently. And before she started inventing, there were no early signs of entrepreneurial greatness. She actually didn't think she was smart enough to become an entrepreneur, period. In this episode, Lisa shares what she's learned over 30 years as an inventor and high-profile business owner. What were her most costly mistakes, and what did they teach her? What's the key to persisting through prolonged periods of uncertainty without becoming cynical? And what are the two types of discipline that you need to keep moving forward as an entrepreneur? Lisa talks about:Why she's not a geniusThe two essential types of disciplineWhen to buckle down, and when to give it upA less than perfect experience on Shark Tank Generating $20,000,000 from her first productHow to persist through launching your first product We have a website!Visit andsosheleft.com for full episodes, transcripts, an application form to be on the show, a list of upcoming guests and more.Hosted by Katherin Vasilopoulos. Content Warning: This episode deals with sensitive topics like suicide, PTSD, divorce, and poor mental health. On the surface, Tereson Dupuy has led a pretty good life. She successfully ran her business FuzziBunz Diapers for almost two decades and kickstarted the modern cloth diapering movement. All in all, she sold $32 million dollars worth of product. But beneath the surface, it's a different story. Tereson's dealt with trauma ever since she was little: trauma which bled into her entrepreneurial life. She's battled abandonment and lost her son to suicide during the pandemic. But Tereson's traumas have actually unlocked her ability to lead with love, both for herself and those around her. The death of her son Eden in particular spurred her upcoming memoir titled "The Return of Eden", which details how he has guided Tereson along her healing journey…from beyond the veil.In this special Women's History Month episode, Tereson talks about:Making sense of suicide and lossHow prolonged trauma impacted her businessDealing with betrayal from predatory business partnersHow her son's diaper rash led inspired a $30,000,000 companyThe unforgettable quote from a Shark Tank shark that changed her life We have a new website!Visit andsosheleft.com for full episodes, transcripts, an application form to be on the show, a list of upcoming guests and more.Hosted by Katherin Vasilopoulos. Katherin and Sabrina talk about the incredibly dark time for her family during the pandemic, how she's drawn from those experiences throughout Fero's development, and what her mother and grandfather taught her about the value of hard work. Truck Buckman visits Milan Petrovic at the local Walmart and talks to an incredulous but understanding Milan about his daughter Suzy's involvement in the blackmail of Levi Manwill. What a country! Exploring new team pairings, Stacie Lawson & John Woo-Tang head over to Dr. Lee's office to see if they can uncover any information on the three girls and the baby. With many possible (and possibly ruinous) approaches available to them, they somehow manage to avoid disaster and win the doctor's trust. Jared Brewington has had quite the year. Not only did he have to shut down a restaurant but his very identity as a black man became under attack, once again, during one of the biggest race movements of all time. Thankfully, he’s had a chance to escape all the noise under the trees at his farmland in Cologne, MN.I drove 45 minutes west from St. Paul to visit Jared, a good friend of mine, to talk about how he has been processing this year and what’s coming next.As of right now, Jared has no physical restaurant that you can support. However, he is in the process of reviving some old concepts (Funky Grits, Thigh Times Birdhouse) and starting a new one (family restaurant in Cologne).//“What True Self, Feels Bogus, Let's Watch Jason X” by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/“Another Version of You” by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/“CGI Snake” by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/
Since starting the podcast, there is one population in the food industry that I've neglected: farmers. How are they doing? The answer to this question is complex and long-winded – not all farmers are managing in the same way, so I began with Ben Wiedenman from Pink Teepee Farms in Ottawa, Wisconsin.//If you want to support Ben, the best thing you can do is visit his online natural foods store – Sourced in Nature – and purchase a few products: https://www.sinfoods.com///“What True Self, Feels Bogus, Let's Watch Jason X” by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/“CGI Snake” by Chris Zabriskie is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license(https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)Artist: http://chriszabriskie.com/

Welcome to the Price Lab Podcast, a series focused on the people who are building, using, and critiquing the digital tools and techniques transforming the humanities. In each episode, friends of the Price Lab will speak to a different scholar about their work and the digital tools and resources shaping their research and pedagogy. The Price Lab podcast was delighted to welcome the founding faculty director of the Price Lab for Digital Humanities, Dr. Jim English (John Welsh Centennial Professor of English, University of Pennsylvania). A specialist in modern and contemporary British fiction, his essays have appeared in PMLA, The New York Times, The Atlantic, Harpers, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. Jim discusses the creation of the Price Lab and his forays into incorporating digital humanities tools and methods into his own research and pedagogy. Jupiter and its moon are a rarely considered prospect for colonization, but potentially the ripest opportunity for it in the solar system. In this episode of the Outward Bound series we will examine the options for colonizing each of Jupiter's primary moons and even discuss ways to colonize the giant planet itself. Today we discuss the concept of trade throughout a colonized solar system, and ask how viable it is and what challenged it faces. While Interplanetary trade faces many challenges, Interstellar Trade faces even more, this episode will seek to examine in detail what can be traded between worlds, what probably can't, and what technologies might impact that. It's September 2012. There is a nervous excitement in the building and everybody feels it, from the chefs, to the finance department, and certainly us teachers. 115 students arrive on this Monday afternoon from around the world, about 25 different countries, to start their new life at the European Film College. Most will live on campus like me. They will work harder than probably ever in their lives, make many ambitious films, take creative and personal risks, challenge their preconceptions, find out who they are outside of their own culture, away from their family and friends, as individuals. The 9 months that they are here will feel like a lifetime, but it will go incredibly quickly. Time warps, much like it does in the first year of parenthood. I know it feels like this because I did it too, 13 years earlier. It was the first day of the best and most creatively fulfilling year of my life, up until the day you were born. I feel incredibly privileged to be on the other side now, to be a part of the team that is invested in giving these students an experience like mine. It is a great responsibility, and one I have put above all else for the past three years. There is an emotional rhythm to the year, almost a narrative arc, and I understand it well now so I hate to be leaving the story before the end. If there was a way to see it through I would, but there really isn't. I will be the best teacher I can be until Christmas time and then hand everything over. I don't have time to think much about the future. All my energy goes to surviving the present. But there is great joy in the everyday. 20 weeks, time for the second scan. I'm so nervous and excited to see you again, to hear your heart beat again. It's November. Charlotte and I check in regularly as her due date approaches. I long to go home. In only a month, I will. And soon after that, you will arrive too. Not By Accident is made by me, Sophie Harper. Thanks to my family, my friends and my daughter for allowing me to record, and for the practical and moral support. And to all of you who have left amazing reviews and sent messages, you have brought me to tears multiple times. I am inspired. Please keep them coming! Do up-and-coming filmmakers of today really need to study the masters of yesterday? Also, we begin our "Women in Film" series.About five years ago I wrote a blog post posing the question, "Should young filmmakers of today study the masters?" It generated a lot of great debate and conversation. That question has always sat with me, particularly now in an age where YouTube celebrities gain millions of views with little to no formal filmmaking education (let alone film history). So, what value, if any, is there to know the work of master filmmakers like Kurosawa, Hitchcock, Ford, Ophuls or Chaplain? This week we hear from six filmmakers and one master photographer on the topic.Women in FilmToday we also formally begin our "Women in Film" series as we hear an excerpt from a 4-person panel I conducted on the topic. Is that fact that I even have to make a special "series" a problem in itself?Support our SponsorWe have some more great use of Song Freedom songs. Chapter 1: Meeting up at a local bar called Ahoy, our Personas get reacquainted while Jacob sells them on a new adventure Twenty years ago, we played a game. We recorded that game and shared it over the airwaves of our high school radio station, WKEY AM 1360. People listened. So did other things. Twenty years later, we were invited to play a live reunion show for the hardcore fans. Little did we know, this time the game was real. For our first Dead Ghost production, we are diving into Rowan, Rook and Decard's fantasy horror game: DIE RPG. In DIE RPG you play a group of real-world, deeply-flawed adults who are transported into a fantasy realm via a predatory, sinister roleplaying game. There, they're transformed into Paragons and given strange and frightening powers. In this world, the players are confronted with their truest desires and deepest fears, and only they can decide when the game is over. Our players take on the role of the show's cast and supporters, creating Personas (the real-world person that each player—including the GM—plays) and Paragons (The six types of adventurers a Persona can be transformed into when they enter the world of Die). on the role of the show's cast and supporters, creating Personas (the real-world person that each player—including the GM—plays) and Paragons (The six types of adventurers a Persona can be transformed into when they enter the world of DIE).
