Mark chats to the magnificent Lisa Lloyd about the judgement they regularly receive from outsiders as parents of neurodivergent kids. Lisa has two children - an 11-year old boy (diagnosed autistic) and a 7-year old girl (diagnosed autistic, with a PDA profile) and, as a prominent content creator on social media (@asd_with_a_g_and_t), she is no stranger to being judged by people who don't have a neurodivergent child, much less a clue about how to raise one. Mark and Lisa swap tales about comments they receive from people judging their children ("He's not autistic, he's just naughty"), judging their parenting ("He wouldn't act like that if he was my son") and judging the entire concept of neurodivergency ("It's just a label"). They discuss the misconceptions that cause people to act this way, as well as the appropriate responses you can give them in return. This is a great one to listen to if you've ever been told that "He doesn't look autistic" or "Everyone's a bit on the spectrum".   LINKS TO STUFF WE MENTION IN THIS EPISODE: Raising the Sen-Betweeners, Lisa Lloyd - https://amzn.eu/d/4hm6Sb0 SEND Reform England - https://www.sendreformengland.com/ Lisa Lloyd Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/asd_with_a_g_and_t/ Lisa Lloyd TikTok - https://www.tiktok.com/@asd.with.a.g.and.t Lisa Lloyd Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ASDwithGandT     CONTACT US If you have any feedback about the show, ideas for topics or suggestions for neurodiversity champions you'd like us to give a shout out to, you can email: hello@neuroshambles.com FOLLOW US Instagram: www.instagram.com/neuroshambles TikTok:https: www.tiktok.com/@neuroshamblespod Facebook: www.facebook.com/Neuroshambles Threads: www.threads.net/@neuroshambles CREDITS The Neuroshambles theme tune was created by Skilsel on Pixabay: https://pixabay.com/

We have a first for the podcast - it's the very first time that I've had two guests feature on one episode.I'm joined by Gemma Ellison and Lisa LLoyd who are both returning guests from this series. Since my recording with Gemma in October 2023, the pair have teamed up to create Leadership Labs which provide a truly unique approach to helping leaders tackle issues and drive change. Both highly passionate about workplace culture they also recognised that the general formats for Leadership development simply didn't go far enough or were too generic. They knew that something better could be achieved. What they have created are mechanisms for honesty, collaboration, and peer support and learning. At the same time, they are pushing the boundaries by encouraging leaders to tackle 'experiments' that are measured and assessed to help drive positive change in their businesses.I absolutely love the concept and format they have come up with. Whilst not the traditional format for this podcast, it's still a compelling listen, especially for any HR folk tasked with supporting leadership development in their organisations or even HR leaders themselves.Support the Show.

My guest this episode is Lisa LLoyd who could be considered an unconventional guest for me to have on. Whilst Lisa hasn't worked in HR per se, the work she does feeds into the HR ecosystem. In the spirit of bring as broad a variety of people from the HR world onto the show then her story definitely warrants a place here.Lisa studied Psychology at University, not knowing exactly what she wanted to do but feeling it would be something that could help her in whatever vocation she did ultimately choose. Her career then actually began as a Primary School Teacher but it was through her wanting to help those kids most in need of support that made her leave the profession. However, it took her to working directly with those families who needed help and getting them the support they required. This then led to her first position as a Psychologist but it's fascinating to hear how great Managers and Leaders impacted Lisa at this stage in her early career.A chance conversation with a HR friend made Lisa see that the work she had been doing in school environments was equally as relative in the commercial world so she made the leap to working as a Consultant.Where Lisa differs from so many other business coaches out there is that she uses her psychology background but also provides a bespoke, tailored solution to each company she works with. After all no two companies are the same! Lisa is incredibly engaging and has a unique ability to simply issues, identify the true objective with her clients, and then help them develop plans to reach that destination. For anybody frustrated at feeling the burden is on them as the HR person to drive organisational culture matters then this is an absolute must listen.Support the Show.

Lisa's success began with her idea for a barrette. While working for the CBS affiliate in Tucson, AZ she often wore her hair up in a French Twist. Friends and co-workers regularly asked how she fashioned the professional up-do so she began to scour stores to find a barrette that would help. When she discovered there was nothing on the market she decided to invent one. A short thirteen months later she had patented, manufactured, sold to stores and ultimately licensed the patent to Scunci® for 20 years of regular income. The product is now sold in stores around the world and has generated over $20M globally! Since then Lisa has licensed 6 more products to major distributors including Goody Products®, Scunci®. and Helen of Troy®. In 2007 Lisa in-licensed a patent from an inventor and took on the challenge to further develop, patent, manufacture and launch a new line of plush products called TC Pets for which she has won numerous awards and been featured on the ABC reality show Shark Tank where she won the coveted investment of “Shark” Daymond John of FUBU. "So when we use our imagination well the possibilities are endless." Lisa LLoyd   Lisa LLoyd believes our imagination is our most misused resource, an innate resource that is so important for us. We delve into all things imagination and Lisa explains how our imagination can help to inform thinking or can be a barrier to that thinking depending on the state of our emotional arousal. Lisa talks us through what goes on in our brains when we enter a state of high emotional arousal and introduces us to some practical approaches to managing our emotional state, including recognising early warning signs and giving our amygdala a name, like Bob! We take our discussion into the workplace and Lisa explains how we operate based on patterns. She talks us through the power of visualisation as the key to imagining different outcomes and changing patterns. And we talk about how to harness our imagination at work in order to be creative and innovative.    Lisa LLoyd is a Chartered Psychologist & Psychotherapist. Alongside her private psychotherapy practice she founded It's Time for Change based on the belief that if we all started to do things a little bit differently, we'd achieve huge results. She is an advocate for putting the human factor back into business and her mantra is: when we get people right, we get business right. She works collaboratively with organisations, using psychological principles and evidence-based practices to improve leadership, employee engagement and resilience and to create workplace cultures where employees excel, where teams are dynamic and where people are happy.   Connect with Lisa: On LinkedIn Through her Website: https://itstimeforchange.co.uk/    Resources Mentioned: Check out episode #30, Leading Change with Lisa LLoyd

Most inventors want the same thing – to make money from their idea. You have a great idea that others can benefit from. You see successful inventions everyday when you go shopping and retail stores are filled with products that someone created. Why can’t you be that person that enjoys great success? Most inventors face the same basic problem – they lack the knowledge of the proper steps to inventing. They often skip critical steps in an attempt to get their product on the market which results in it being improperly developed and just plain unsellable.  They are also not financially prepared for the long road ahead. To enjoy success in this high risk business, you must understand the process and execute with precision. Are you an invention entrepreneur who needs expert guidance to make your idea a reality? Are you nearly ready to sell to retailers or license your product? Do you need assistance with learning everything from how to find a factory to manufacture your product to how to sell to major retailers? If you are you unsure of what to do next and are afraid to spend your hard earned money incorrectly, then Jim’s Coaching & Consulting Programs are exactly what you need to help get your invention off the ground and on a path to success.

"When people are able to pause and are given permission to pause by their leaders and they know the necessity of pausing, in terms of their brain being so much more productive and you'll be so much more engaged and so much more successful after a pause. And then that's where the magic happens." Lisa LLoyd.   Lisa and I talk about putting the human factor back into workplaces and treating people like people. We talk about the return on investment (ROI) of investing in staff and how a one-size approach does not fit all. We discuss how time is one of the biggest barriers to organisations implementing changes in the best way and Lisa points out they might well be going full steam ahead on the wrong path. We also cover the people side of change, the power of pausing, psychological safety, inner critics and how to become even more effective as a manager. And we chat about thinking in terms of blips instead of failure and the importance of self-compassion.    Lisa LLoyd is a Chartered Psychologist & Psychotherapist. Lisa Lloyd is the President and CEO of Lloyd Marketing Group. Her success began with her idea for a barrette while working for the CBS affiliate in Tucson, AZ. A short 13 months later, she had patented, manufactured, sold to stores, and ultimately licensed the patent to Scünci for 20 years of regular income. The product is now sold in stores around the world and has generated over $20M globally!  Since then, Lisa has licensed 6 more products to major distributors including Goody, Scünci, and Helen of Troy. In 2007, she in-licensed a patent from an inventor and took on the challenge to further develop, patent, manufacture, and launch a new line of plush products called TC Pets, for which she has won numerous awards—and was even featured on the ABC reality show Shark Tank, where she won the coveted investment of “Shark” Daymond John, the CEO of FUBU.  Lisa has spent nearly two decades as a speaker and trainer on innovation, licensing, and business tactics. She has been a featured lecturer at universities like the University of Arizona Eller School of Business and Entrepreneurship, ASU College of Engineering, and the Arizona Intellectual Property Association's continuing education program for patent and trademark attorneys. She has also won numerous awards for various pitch competitions, including Rice University’s “Rice Alliance Business Plan Competition” and “Pitch it to the Pros” with Discovery Channel’s Billy Mays. In this episode… Innovators come up with great ideas for products that are meant to meet a certain need for people. If the idea is commercially viable, you stand a good chance of finding investors and manufacturing the product. But, you may also find it ideal to license your product to another company and earn a regular income from product sales made by that company. However, not every idea can be licensed. This could happen if the problem you’re hoping to solve with your product just isn’t big enough to warrant the purchase. It could also be because the idea is poorly defined and doesn’t solve people's pain points—and, if this is the case, your idea may not be commercially viable considering all the costs associated with production.  Lisa Lloyd, the President and CEO of Lloyd Marketing Group, is Rich Goldstein's guest in this episode of the Innovations and Breakthroughs Podcast, where she shares her tips and tricks for successfully inventing and licensing products. She also talks about her experience pitching at ABC's Shark Tank, the importance of having an invention support community, and why some products don't get licensing offers.
