The America's Cup may not return to Auckland, but a new sailing event could replace it. Under a new deal, Auckland and Lyttleton will host alternate events in the Sail GP sailing competition for four years from 2023. Christchurch was due to host a one-off Sail GP event next month, but organisers had to cancel it after failing to secure 160 MIQ spots. Sailing expert Chris Steele told Tim Dower both cities are now set to benefit. “It's basically alongside the America's Cup now at the pinnacle of the sport and obviously the America's Cup is once every three years, Sail GP runs year-round so it's definitely up there.” LISTEN ABOVE

Martin Devlin chats to Peter Montgomery and Chris Steele of the Gold AM and Newstalk ZB Americas Cup commentary team reflecting on a surreal day's racing on the Hauraki Gulf which saw Team New Zealand go up 5-3 in the first to 7 races of the 36th America's Cup.
Locked 3-apiece, Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa will be looking to the weather gods - and the possibility of strengthening winds - as a key factor in the coming days. The America's Cup rivals return to the Hauraki Gulf today for two more races and what could be a decisive day of foiling - they each need to win four more races in the best-of-13 series to lift the Auld Mug.The first six races have been in lighter airs - with the leading boat at the start gaining a massive advantage - and those breezes are set to continue today and tomorrow. But the regatta deadlock might be broken if a low-pressure system moves in this week.Today's weather may not be as superb as yesterday, but it's again expected to smile on America's Cup sailors and spectators. The on-water spectacle took place under bluebird skies in Auckland yesterday, but a weak, warm front may bring a few showers to eastern parts of the city late this afternoon, MetService meteorologist Andy Best said."It's not a major, but it does mean we'll see a few showers developing."Wind won't be an issue – a 10 knot sou-easter is expected to rise to 15 knots by the time Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa are on the water for the 4.12pm and 5.12pm races.Swells would be around half a metre and a high of 25C is forecast, Best said.Winds will be lighter for the next day of racing on Monday, with a nor-easter reaching only 10 knots by race time, again 4.12pm and 5.12pm.The minimum wind speed for racing the foiling monohulls used in this America's Cup is 6.5 knots. The sea swell is expected to be half a metre.Again, cloudy periods may be punctuated by the odd shower and, again, it'll be warm - a high of 25C is forecast, Best said.Beyond tomorrow, though, we could see some strengthening winds. Both Team New Zealand's Peter Burling and Luna Rossa's Jimmy Spithill have acknowledged a low sitting off the east coast of New Zealand. That could push the current high away, and with it bring some stronger breezes.Higher winds are likelier to allow a trailing boat more opportunity to push past the other. Right now, the leading boat, in lighter airs, has a massive advantage, casting a hugely disruptive wind shadow in the lighter airs.Tens of thousands of yachting fans soaked up the high-pressure stakes of day three of racing for the America's Cup yesterday – watching on as some "Italian Magic" initially unfolded on the Hauraki Gulf, before the holders hit back. The army of supporters soaked up vantage points both on the water alongside the race course, as well as packing out the official America's Cup Village at the Viaduct, and nearby hospitality businesses, as Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli continued their battle for yachting's prized trophy. The scoreline in the best of 13 series was locked 2-all after Friday's at-times very tense racing. And by the end of yesterday's duo of races, the score remained locked at 3-3.The Italians initially won the opening race after taking advantage of a calamitous Team New Zealand showing in the pre-start jousting. But Team New Zealand hit back in stunning style in the second race of the day, this time making the most of Luna Rossa's own pre-start woes to power away.Yesterday, the excitement was in the air from mid-morning as fans flocked to the official Village.Out on the water, an estimated 3000 boats headed out to seek good vantage points. At the Village, many fans were decked out in black clothing and face paint to support Team New Zealand. And as through the earlier Prada Cup series, and first two race days of the America's Cup, a hearty contingent of Luna Rossa fans also decked themselves out in Italian colours and team gear of the challengers. The influx of fans was good news for hospitality operators at the Viaduct, with the return to level 1 meaning earlier crowd size restrictions were lifted. Those on the water on race days were warned to stick to the rules after a race start on Friday was abruptly halted due to a specta...
Keep calm – and carry on.That the message from Team New Zealand skipper Peter Burling, after a surprising opening day of the America's Cup match. Most experts were tipping a pronounced edge to the defenders– with some opining that it would barely be a contest – but that wasn't the case.Instead Luna Rossa showed they will be competitive, with little between the boats in the moderate breezes of between 12-14 knots on Wednesday. The Italians kept it close in the first race, after falling behind early, and the eventual loss by 31 seconds was no disgrace. But the pivotal moment came in the second contest, with Luna Rossa leading from start to finish, with the underdogs banking a seven-second win. That result would have prompted some worry lines around the nation, after months of being fed the analysis that this Cup result was going to be a fait accompli. It clearly won't be, but Burling was unfazed by the prospect of Te Rehutai's speed edge not being as pronounced as expected."We're still pretty happy with how our boat is going," said Burling. "Today was obviously a pretty tricky day – there was a lot of small wind shifts and one thing today did show that if you get behind at the start it's pretty hard to get past. We did a good job of the first start and they probably kicked themselves for that and vice versa in the second race."We made a small mistake on the round-off, where we thought we're in a good position and [from there] it's definitely hard to pass in these spots. But we're happy with how we dug deep in that final in the last race and really closed things up."Indeed, if Team New Zealand are looking for positives, they might come from examining the final two legs of Wednesday's second race. Te Rehutai was behind by 24 seconds at the fourth gate – trailing by more than 400 metres – and the race looked all but over. But they halved the deficit on the upwind leg, forcing the Italians into a couple of errors. The advantage was only 12 seconds at the penultimate gate and Team New Zealand then squeezed Luna Rossa all the way to the finish, with Burling suggesting that one more lap may have seen a different result.Team New Zealand will use Thursday for maintenance and analysis, with Burling confirming they had "no intention" of going out on the water. Due to the Covid-19 enforced delay, Thursday is the last scheduled lay day of the regatta, with back-to-back racing after that and hence the only extended opportunity to analyse their performance against the challengers."We didn't really know who had a speed edge heading into it, so it was great to check in today," said Burling. "We haven't really had a good chance to go back over everything and make some good decisions. Now it's a great opportunity to really dive into the learnings from [Wednesday] and get as prepared as we can for the weekend, because whoever puts their best foot forward this weekend will decide it."text by Michael Burgess, NZ Herald
Today we got to talk with Billy and Tyler from the band Nude Shoes, a pop punk band from Asbury Park, NJ. On February 12, 2021 they released their acoustic EP Mensch, which was self-produced while in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Nude Shoes has been making music since 2018 led by their Vocalist Andy Katz. "For Andy Katz, 2017 proved to be a life-changing year. He had to put major parts of his life on hold to deal with his mental and physical health. No one knew it, but he fell into a relapse. He was battling through the worst flare-up he’s had since being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis 14 years prior. Between surgeries and rounds of new medication, he teamed up with Pat Risi of Bear Away Studios to write his first EP for his new project, Nude Shoes. Through Pat, Andy was teamed up with guitarist Billy Butka, and the two of them were able to gather Chris Steele, Sean Lavery, Tyler Patchell, and Giulio Bozzone to complete the Nude Shoes family and take on the scene." The new schedule for the upcoming third and fourth round robin for the Prada Cup has been announced, confirming reports that teams will be forced to 'race' on their own following American Magic's capsize on Sunday.American Magic were forced to withdraw from racing to make urgent repairs to their boat Patriot after the New York syndicate's dramatic capsize and near sinking during their race against Luna Rossa. It's left the remaining Prada Cup challengers – Luna Rossa and Ineos Team UK – having to take part in a "ghost race" due to Prada Cup regulations in order to be handed the win by default."In order to comply with the formality of the Regulations, after finishing the above races both competitors will have to take the start of a "ghost race" vs New York Yacht Club American Magic to allow the Regatta Director to award the point to the relevant team," the Prada Cup said in a statement."The "ghost race" will then be suspended just a few minutes after the start. The rule of 25 minutes between the two starts will not apply to these "ghost races"."The revised schedule will mean Luna Rossa and Ineos Team UK will face each other twice, with one race each taking place on Saturday and Sunday at 4pm."Should INEOS TEAM UK win the Saturday race, the Sunday race result will be redundant as INEOS TEAM UK would be the first classified team of the Round Robins and, as such, will go directly through to the PRADA Cup Final. In that event the two teams will have the choice whether or not to race on Sunday," the Prada Cup statement continued. The third and fourth round robin races will determine the automatic qualifier for the Prada Cup final, with the remaining two teams facing off in a seven-race semifinal to determine the second finalist.American Magic skipper Terry Hutchinson said earlier this week that there were a lot of hours of work ahead for his team to repair their boat which would mean they would miss this weekend's racing, but he was confident they would be back on the water in time for the semifinals on January 29-31.Ineos Team UK are unbeaten with four wins in their Prada Cup campaign so far and require one more win against Luna Rossa to book their spot in the final. The challenger of record Luna Rossa have two wins and two losses, and need to win both races this weekend to qualify for the final via the tiebreaker (winner of the last race).Prada Cup schedule - round robin three and fourSaturday 23rd of January 2021:Luna Rossa vs Ineos Team UK – Start at 4pmSunday 24th of January 2021:Ineos Team UK vs Luna Rossa – Start at 4pm

In this episode, I address the even more embarrassing night-two of the calamitous Democratic National Convention. I also discuss the hard facts about Joe Biden‘s plans for your firearms and your taxes. News Picks: Bill Clinton smiles receiving a neck massage from one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims. The second night of the DNC was somehow worse than the first. No collusion is found. Again! Yes, the Democrats are coming for your guns. Joe Biden is proposing the largest tax hikes ever. The media misinformation about the coronavirus has created a serious information vacuum. This former CIA employee arrested for spying has a bizarre story. This John McCain associate should answer questions about his relationship with Chris Steele. Copyright Bongino Inc All Rights Reserved.

Joining them is Luke Harding, Guardian journalist and author of the new book Shadow State: Murder, Mayhem and Russia's remaking of the West. Dr. Charles Kriel wonders what new methods the Russians might be developing behind the scenes.

This week in our Just This podcast, Rivard Report Editor-in-Chief Beth Frerking and former San Antonio news columnist Rick Casey discuss the latest skirmish in an ongoing war between City Hall and the San Antonio Professional Firefighters Association. This round, the union is working to place propositions on the ballot that would give voters the right to consider capping the city manager's tenure and salary; negotiate contracts through binding arbitration (if other avenues fail); and to make it easier to have citizen-led referendums that could impact City finances. City officials, including Mayor Ron Nirenberg, have drawn hard lines against the effort led by firefighters' union chief Chris Steele.
