TGIF! Ty Clancey is a returning champion! Ty was on episode 366 to talk about his short film “Thank You For Staying,” an Official Selection at Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2021. After the podcast, he sent me his hilarious human-puppet hybrid comedy “Support.com and You!” and I loved it so much that we instantly threw it onto The Indie Channel. Ty came back to the podcast because in 2023 his beautiful, stylistic horror short “Drawn” was an Official Selection in Sherman Oaks Film Festival. In In classic Ty fashion, he didn't realize that “Drawn” won the Grand Jury Award for Best Featurette, Horror and Best Cinematography for Stephen Tringali until I told him on the podcast! (If memory serves, he didn't know about the awards “Thank You For Staying” won until he came onto the podcast. Not gonna lie. I enjoy my conversations with Ty so much that I may have to think of an excuse to bring him on again even before he makes another film. He was on episode 366 in March 2023 and here he is, back on episode 504 in March 2025. Maybe I should that he come back for a March 2027 episode? Welcome to another episode of Funding the Future. In today's episode, we're speaking with Clancey Stahr, Managing Partner at GoAhead Ventures, a venture capital firm that has raised $180 Million in funding. Here are the most interesting points from our conversation: Founding Journey: Clancey founded GoAhead Ventures in 2015, starting with initial legwork in 2013 while still a student at Stanford. He collaborated with his co-founders to connect Japanese corporations with US startups, eventually pivoting to venture capital. Early Fundraising: The first fund was raised in 2014, totaling $6 million from a partner in Japan and three US angels. The focus was on the team's potential rather than a specific idea, leveraging the Stanford network. Investment Thesis Evolution: Initially emulating top Silicon Valley VCs, the firm evolved its thesis in 2020 with a focus on video submissions for founder pitches. This streamlined the evaluation process, making it easier to compare founders and identify the best investments. Video Submissions: GoAhead Ventures receives 60-80 video submissions per week, reviewing over 3,000 annually. The submission process includes a brief introduction and a three-minute elevator pitch, with a one-in-ten chance of leading to a first meeting. Decision-Making Speed: The firm has honed its decision-making process, providing founders with a yes or no within three days of video submission and offering a signable agreement within 24 hours of a live pitch. Focus on Fundraising: GoAhead Ventures prioritizes helping portfolio companies raise additional capital, recognizing that every company needs money and that this is an area where they can add significant value. // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.GlobalTalent.co

Clancey Krahn is a 2023 National Proficiency Winner in the category of Dairy Production Entrepreneurship, but there is a lot more going on with this story. She is also an Oregon State Dairy Princess Ambassador and the National Jersey Queen! And, she is the daughter of two incredible parents! Clancey's story goes way back to when her older sister had been in the 4H for a couple of years and Clancey was just getting ready to start. Their parents, both with dairy backgrounds, decided that they wanted their daughters to grow up like they had. Having no farm, they moved to the small town of Scio, Oregon and purchased 5 acres. Soon, Clancey and her sister were directing the procurement of more and more cattle, and getting ever deeper into dairy cattle showing and the industry as a whole. A few years later Clancey's parents sat them down and said that if they were going to keep buying cattle for their small farm there would have be some profit motive. Royal Riverside Dairy was born. Today, the four of them milk 25 head of cattle, bottle their own milk and make their own flavored milks to sell to over 50 retail establishments as well as in their own farm stand. Their 4H project exploded into a big time, niched business in their local community and it set the family on a pathway into direct marketing and value adding the milk they produce at their home. What a fantastic story!
Geologists in the field climb hills and hang onto craggy outcrops; they put their fingers in sand and scratch, smell, and even taste rocks. Beginning in 2004, however, a team of geologists and other planetary scientists did field science in a dark room in Pasadena, exploring Mars from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) by means of the remotely operated Mars Exploration Rovers (MER). Clustered around monitors, living on Mars time, painstakingly plotting each movement of the rovers and their tools, sensors, and cameras, these scientists reported that they felt as if they were on Mars themselves, doing field science. The MER created a virtual experience of being on Mars. In Working on Mars, William Clancey examines how the MER has changed the nature of planetary field science. Drawing on his extensive observations of scientists in the field and at the JPL, Clancey investigates how the design of the rover mission enables field science on Mars, explaining how the scientists and rover engineers manipulate the vehicle and why the programmable tools and analytic instruments work so well for them. He shows how the scientists felt not as if they were issuing commands to a machine but rather as if they were working on the red planet, riding together in the rover on a voyage of discovery. The Imperial Japanese Army was born of, and found its conclusion in, violent conflict. Westernization had come to Japan during the mid to late nineteenth century and divided the nation, for a time reversing the unification efforts of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Consisting of warring clans and provinces governed by a militarily ordered form of government, feudal Japan was a nation designed from warfare, and warfare had long been an essential thread in the weave of Japanese society. The expert on improving agency marketing and operations, Ryan Teubner, guest stars on this episode of Agents Growth Academy. Join the conversation between him and host Jim Schubert about seeking out training–whatever form it may be in–to prepare for a sales win always. Further those wins by revising your networking parameters and vetoing phone calls in lieu of in-person contacts that build long-lasting relationships.3 Key TakeawaysThis is a relationship-based industry. That means you need to be out in the field, face-to-face with people, all the time. Don't substitute for a phone call.Get yourself into a place where you're confident you can win sales because you're prepared. This means ample self-education and understanding your competition.Sharing stories of past client experiences puts the “relate” in relationships. Clancey Cornell is an artist, mental health professional, memory worker, and advocate for the arts who considers herself a very nostalgic person. She grew up in a family that was very much about expansion and exploration, the daughter of creatives who raised her in Los Angeles before moving her to attend high school in Italy. She's traveled the world, volunteering in advocacy efforts to lift up the underprivileged where she always finds beauty mixed in the suffering. Clancey is keenly interested in the intersection of arts, advocacy, and memory. Since 2015, she's mobilized arts-centered non-profit efforts in Los Angeles and collaborated with grassroots initiatives advocating for more access to art spaces in the Skid Row neighborhood, the largest homeless population in America. She manages archival projects for the Los Angeles Poverty Department's Skid Row History Museum, an organization that creates artworks and exhibitions connecting the experiences of people living in poverty to the larger forces that shape their lives. While remaining connected to community initiatives, Clancey is pursuing a Master's of Social Work with a focus on Adult Mental Health and Wellness. Since the start of her program, she's provided group and individual therapy for individuals living with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use challenges in both outpatient and hospital settings. Clancey loves training in Capoeira (a Brazilian martial art form), dancing, and making music with her fiancé. Her enthusiasm is contagious. In this episode of Trial Lawyer View, Host Jason D. Lazarus had a fantastic conversation with Clancey Bounds from Bounds Law Group. They talked about his area of specialty of plaintiff medical malpractice litigation and how his appreciation for the complicated nature of the cases initially drew him to that practice but then developed into the passion of helping people. Clancey talked about how the cases he handles can make a meaningful difference through holding medical professionals accountable for harm they cause by achieving requite. Together they delved into the meaning of requite which personally resonated with Jason D. Lazarus given his personal injury case. Lastly, Clancey touched on how he connects with the clients he represents in a very personal way to convey the nature of their loss to a jury Learn more about J. Trevor Lai, the artist who created the Canucks Lunar jerseys, joined Matt and Blake. Talked about how the association with the Canucks came to be. Says he is the biggest hockey and Canucks fan in China. Says he reached out to the team and the league to find out how to grow the game in China. Talked about BOOMi, one of his characters, who has accumulated over five billions views. He pitched that the best way to grow the game is to grow it through kids and cartoons. He created a series on how to play hockey. Talked about how the anti-asian sentiment really hurt. The Canucks reached out to see what they could do. Talked about how he integrated the Chinese community into the design. Credits the Canucks for giving him so much creative control. Talked about playing beer league hockey in Shanghai. Vancouver sports broadcaster, Scott Rintoul joined Matt and Blake in his regular Thursday spot. Started with the Canucks and who could be coming to the front office. Shared his thoughts on Sean Burke and what he would bring. There would be some PR that is needed with his domestic violence allegations. It was short lived but needs to be addressed. Feels there is a way past that due to his relationship with Rutherford. There are a lot of reasons that make sense. Talked about Patrik Allvin. Thinks he makes the most sense among the finalists becuase he is the kind of executive that Rutherford has described in the past as to what he is looking for. Talked about Rutherford bringing in a female AGM. Says it is good becuase this organization needs more diverse opinions and there are many qualified women. Talked about Clancey and his view on analytics. Talked about when EP40 will figure it out. Thinks it’ll be next season as every game goes by. Not worried about his level athletisicm. His hockey IQ and vision are top level. That doesn’t just disappear. Talked about Luke Schenn, who recieved his Stanley Cup ring. Scotty loves his story. He was told he was done in ANA and took his opportunity in VAN and turned that into two rings in TBay. Talked about the Cowboys vs 9ers matchup this weekend. Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk joined Blake and Jeff to talk about where in the week we actually are in the NFL. Says it’s just crazy. Things start at the Owners meetings when they starting tinkering with protocols. Rams had 29 players on their Covid list but you just can’t play a game with that many on the list. Says it is unfortunate for the teams that are in the thick of it who have big games with key players out. Talked about the odd season the Cardinals are having. Charean says it’s like their last season but there they could point to Kyler’s shoulder. To lay the egg against the worst team in the league is inexcusable. Talked about the upcoming Tuesday games. John Shannon joined Blake and Jeff to talk about the world of sports and all that is not happening. Thinks it might be a bit of a challenge to schedule all the postponed games into the break that was supposed to be for the Olympics. Said this isn’t only affecting players and staff. 15 on ice officials are also stuck in hotel rooms around cities in the league. Talked about how much a blow it was to HNIC to not have Leafs vs Cancuks. For sure it was a blow to Rogers but they are in no position to dictate public health matters. John would not be surprised if the All-Star game is also cancelled. Talked about what the hold up is for not going to the Olympics. John thinks the players still want to go. Even though Gary can pull the plug, the players will want something back. Talked about Paul Maurice and why he stepped away from the Jets. Thinks that it was as good a secret kept in the last decade that he has ever seen. Would like to think that it was Maurice on his on velition. It has been a very honourable relationship between owner, GM and Coach. But that doens’t happen in hockey. If that’s what Paul said, John will take him at his word. Talked about might be coming to the Canucks FO. Talked about what he knows about Derek Clancey. Says JR’s netword of people is very deep and focused. Doesn’t surprise John or anybody that Jim would land on a guy like Clancey. Talked about Canucks jerseys. Rob Williams of The Daily Hive joined the show to talk about the day that has been or Canucks twitter. It was all about the choice of jerseys for the Canucks. Says it was the only good news on his timeline. We’ve seen a few other goalies do tribute equiptment. Seeing the photo of Demko in net looked a lot like Kirk McLean. Thinks it was really cool. Talked about colour schemes and who likes what. Thinks it depends on what era you grew up in. Talked about if we will see the flying skate jersey back with the Canucks. Talked about much more we will see the Canucks on ice for the last week of the year. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Worcester School Committee Member Laura Clancey on Doherty High Gun Incident (12/20/21)
Jonathan Dahlen of the San Jose Sharks joined Matt and Blake. Talked about his rookie year. Says he just came into camp to make the team. He has been given a great opportunity and lots of ice time. Wasn’t really that confident that he would make the team. Just took it day by day and worked hard everyday. Fortunately it worked and he is trying to do the same things. Doesn’t see his success in Europe as a comparable to EP40 because they are different players. Talked about how well he knows Elias. Goes back to Timra and playing on a line there with each other. Played a lot together and it was a lot of fun. Says they FaceTime here and there. Met a couple times in the summer. Says they are good friends. Didn’t talk a lot about playing together with the Canucks when he was in Utica. He wasn’t playing well enough there. Will be awesome to be on the same ice sheet tomorrow. Had some low confidence in Utica. Talked about his dad, who played 1000 games in the league. Says it is awesome to have that influence and to be playing in the same organization as he did for 3.5 years. Talked about playing with Couture. He is such a good player and a great Captain. Talked about his hometown in Sweden where Edler is from too. His dad is also a big deal there. Darren Dreger joined Matt and Blake. Doesn’t know much about the Canucks that have tested positive. Doesn’t want to dive in. Charters that don’t take off peaks his interest, though. Talked about any overarching rules by the NHL as a maximum amount of players testing positive before they postpone games. Thinks that conference vs conference are very hard to make up, especially with three week olympic break. Says that it is dependent on the spread within the room and what can be managed. The NHL pays closer attention when teams spread to other teams. Talked about what he knows about Derek Clancey. Says that Jim Rutherford is a guy that gets ahead of problems. Recognizes things then acts. He needs guys that can hit the ground running and Clancey is that guy. Our Canucks reporter, Jeff Paterson joined in his regular spot. Started off by talking about the surge in Covid cases amongst the Canucks. Wonders about the status of the next game, in San Jose. Talked about the game vs the Blue Jackets. Thinks the team has gotten the bounces with who has tested positive. As this goes deeper, it will affect more important players. Talked about the Canucks hiring an AGM before a GM. Talked about the potential of Boudreau winning the Jack Adams. Thinks the voters would take into account that he had three quarters of a season to work with.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Caron Clancey is a writer, director, and eco-conscious hero. And I say “hero” because she wields her power in the way that every one of us can - with our wallets. She makes choices every day, no matter how small, to lower her carbon footprint and help heal the environment. You wouldn’t know it by watching the nightly news, but crime in New South Wales has dropped by 75 percent in the past 15 years. Yet imprisonment rates are rising at an alarming rate – in fact, incarceration is at its highest since federation in 1901. So why is punishment up when crime is down? In this talk, Garner Clancey will reveal the political agenda and media coverage fixated on ‘getting tough on crime’, pushing our prisons to breaking point and costing taxpayers $2 billion a year.
Most times we think of crime, it’s after the fact. But what if through certain measures we could stop a crime before it happens? No this isn’t a Tom Cruise movie, it’s a chat with Dr Garner Clancey, senior lecturer in criminology at the University of Sydney Law School. He joins Open for Discussion to discuss crime statistics (which for most categories aren’t on the rise) and the strategies used today to prevent crimes.

How does conducting fieldwork on another planet, using a robot as a mobile laboratory, change what it means to be a scientist? In Working on Mars: Voyages of Scientific Discovery with the Mars Exploration Rovers (MIT Press, 2012), William J. Clancey explores the nature of exploration in the context of the Mars Exploration Rover (MER) missions of the first decade of the twenty-first century. From 2002-2005 (and with additional interviews thereafter), Clancey led a group of computer and social scientists who acted as participant observers of the MER science team. The resulting book is a fascinating study of the scientists and engineers on the team, their living and working conditions, the relationship of their project to other exploratory and laboratory contexts in the history of science, and the implications of their work for current and future interplanetary missions. Working on Mars beautifully uses rich ethnographic fieldwork to open up larger conceptual issues for the field of science studies, while never losing sight of the aesthetic, personal, and professional lives of MER scientists as individuals. Readers will learn about what it’s like to live on local Mars time, how virtuality is crucial to the experience of MER scientists and engineers, what it means for a scientific team to share a robotic laboratory-body, and why understanding and communicating the poetics of this research may be crucial to realizing the goals of space exploration in the future. It is a wonderful, rich, and sensitively-wrought account. Working on Mars was recently awarded the Gardner-Lasser Aerospace History Literature Award by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Congratulations, Bill!
