This week we leave the Stage Door and head over to Doylestown, PA! On this special episode of Stage Door Medium, I'll share my experience of what it was like staying in the home of one of musical theatre's founding fathers, Oscar Hammerstein II. Tune in this week to learn all about Oscar, whether or not it's possible to channel celebrities, and all the creative ways Oscar validated his presence and opinions on things when I arrived at his home, Highland Farm. I'll also be sharing some fun stories about the rainbow that supposedly led them to their home, the natural landscape that inspired Oscar's Oklahoma lyrics, as well as which other friends or relatives of Oscar's came through that day to visit. Also, come learn about the exciting current plans and to turn Oscar's home into an immersive museum as well as how YOU can help! I'll also discuss what is considered evidential information during a reading, what isn't, and why it's crucial that evidential information be provided when you sit with a Medium.Learn more about Oscar's home and how you can help:www.hammersteinmuseum.org/Book a stay for yourself at Oscar's home:www.highlandfarmbb.comLearn more about mediumship or book a reading for yourself!stagedoormedium.comEditing, graphics, and video footage of Highland Farm:davidraydesign.comWatch on Instagram & YouTube

Inspired by a song, we use the prison abolition movement & criminal legal system as well as Western medicine as points of reference, investigating the ways inherited systems, received as “natural,” are in fact human constructions which can be deconstructed (and reconstructed!) for a future that is more equitable, sustainable, and just. Alicia Albright stops by the stage door tonight! Broadway credits include Wicked ,where she served as Dance captain, as well as performing in the national tours as well. Most recently, Alicia was seen in Frozen on Broadway! Alicia is also the founder of the Feed Your Soul Project, where her mission is to help others speak their heart, discover the light within each of us, and then learn how to share it with the world. This week, I'll explain my process in detail in terms of what I do before I channel (Ground, Protect, Connect). From there, we dive right in and talk about the concepts of breathwork and mindfulness and why it sadly doesn't have a place (yet) in the Broadway rehearsal room, but it doesn't mean we can't make it happen for ourselves before the rehearsal starts. We also talk about the importance of just showing up, and how so often, we can share our light with others simply by being in the same room. Alicia talks about what it looks like creating a show from scratch, as was the case with her being an OBC member of Frozen and touches on acknowledging the sensitivities of not only castmates, but crew, creatives, and assistants. In addition, we'll talk about Alicia's reading, the importance of vacation time and rest, and Nessa's wheelchair soap-opera moment from Wicked that I'm determined to turn into a viral challenge.Audio versions now streaming on Apple Podcasts and Spotify Podcasts Learn more about Alicia:Instagram: @aliciaalbrightfeedyoursoulproject.comLearn more about Mediumship, Jimmy, or book a reading for yourself:Instagram: @stagedoormedium stagedoormedium.comEditing and GraphicsInstagram: @davidraydesign davidraydesign.comWatch on Instagram & YouTube

Inspired by a John Green interview, Jen brings up something that was mentioned by him in passing, but absolutely blew her mind: Every review is, on some level, a bit of a memoir.Specifically, in this episode Jen and Pete talk about:Why is it important to think about who it is that is bringing you feedback?Do we have to listen to and learn from all feedback we're given? How might thinking of feedback as a memoir be a helpful tool for processing critique? To hear all Episodes and read full transcripts visit The Long and The Short Of It website: https://thelongandtheshortpodcast.com/.You can subscribe to our Box o' Goodies here (https://thelongandtheshortpodcast.com/) and receive a weekly email full of book and podcast recommendations, quotes, videos and other interesting things Jen and Pete are noodling on. In this week's episode, we talk about the importance of affinity groups, which are spaces for people with shared identity to safely unpack dynamics around oppression. Though it may feel counter-intuitive, affinity spaces are actually important tools as we develop our liberatory consciousness. Find April and Tracie's full bios and submit topic suggestions for the show at www.JewsTalkRacialJustice.comLearn more about Joyous Justice where April is the founding and fabulous (!) director, and Tracie is a senior partner.: https://joyousjustice.com/Read more of Tracie's thoughts at her blog, bmoreincremental.comLearn more about the Jews of Color Mishpacha Project at https://www.jocmishpacha.org/ Reflections/Discussion Questions:Tracie and April begin discussing affinity spaces, particularly white affinity spaces to discuss dynamics around whiteness and racism. Have you been in these types, or other types, of affinity spaces? How was that experience? If these are new for you, what are your initial reactions?April notes that affinity spaces are different from segregation, pointing out that we engage in affinity spaces all the time, for example, being in an all Jewish space. What affinity spaces do you find yourself in without realizing it? April explains the differences between a segregated space and an affinity space, hinging on oppressive dynamics and how they manifest or not. Segregation is inherently oppressive, while affinity spaces help to unpack oppressive dynamics. Do you understand the difference? Explain it in your own words.Tracie uses the example of discussion antisemitic microaggressions at work and how Jewish and non-Jewish employees need specific spaces to discuss this. This is because affinity spaces help to prevent marginalized groups from being re-traumatized, like in explaining why antisemitism is harmful. How does this example illuminate the importance of these spaces? April reminds us that the oppressor group still may have been wounded somehow and affinity spaces allow dominant group members to be vulnerable. Why is this important? April talks about the evolution of interfaith affinity spaces and how they were originally created to discuss certain dynamics but then they were dissolved once they were no longer needed. How can this example serve as a model for the future? How is the experience of interfaith folks different from navigating racism (and it very much is)? April invites us to think about what other questions come up from this initial overview of affinity spaces. What other questions do you have? Submit them here!

Soon after a serendipitous meeting in 2009, Maggie Lea and Tamra Hoover became partners not only in life, but also in business. Maggie teamed up with Tamra to transform her food truck turned brick-and-mortar bar, Cheer Up Charlie's, into one of Austin's favorite queer hangouts. It became a place where LGBTQ folks could be unapologetically themselves, enjoy a few drinks and listen to good music. On any given night, there was an almost palpable sense of joy and togetherness buzzing in the atmosphere. Suddenly, life threw a curveball — Maggie received a diagnosis that would change her life. The Cheer Up community rallied around her, setting up a GoFundMe page for her treatment. Maggie emerged victorious in time for a second curveball— the pandemic. During the year of uncertainty and financial struggle that followed, Maggie and Tamra dreamed of how (and if) they would bring Cheer Ups back to life in a way that allowed people to heal and feel whatever they needed to feel. At it's core, Cheer Ups remains a valuable space created for the queer community of Austin— a community that will fiercely carry them through into the future.Learn more about Maggie Lea & Cheer Up Charlie's: http://www.cheerupcharlies.comLearn more about GoDaddy: https://www.godaddy.com

Coming on the Plastic Surgeon Podcast this week is Dr. Sajan's patient, Mercedes Christion. Mercedes underwent breast augmentation surgery with Dr. Sajan and was one of the patients featured in his TV series, realdrseattle®. Mercedes always had some negative feelings and self confidence issues concerning her chest and its size. She found herself comparing herself to other women in her life with larger chests and considered breast augmentation from a fairly early age. Eventually, after suffering multiple work injuries that placed her on disability and caused her to suffer from muscle atrophy, the size of her chest was even more noticeable. This is when Mercedes began her research into plastic surgeons.Mercedes followed Dr. Sajan on social media and was impressed with his many breast augmentation before and after photos. They were exactly the results she wanted. When she met with Dr. Sajan for a consultation, she was also glad that he did not encourage her to go bigger and respected her wishes to stay a natural size.Mercedes' story is one of triumph over childhood abuse, lack of confidence, and disability. Tune in to hear about how Mercedes prevailed over these obstacles to become the woman she is today.Subscribe to the Plastic Surgeon Podcast for more plastic surgery stories from real patients and providers. The feeling of being an outsider is an all too familiar one for most human beings. The experience of a Jewish person being made to feel an outsider in Jewish spaces is eloquently investigated by the Eli Talk by Rabbi Shais Rishon who goes by the moniker MaNishtana.Find April and Tracie's full bios and submit topic suggestions for the show at www.JewsTalkRacialJustice.comLearn more about Joyous Justice where April is the founding and fabulous (!) director, and Tracie is a senior partner.: https://joyousjustice.com/Read more of Tracie's thoughts at her blog, bmoreincremental.comAdditional Resources:Watch: MaNishtana's Eli Talk: What Makes This Jew Different Than All Other Jews? Race, Difference, and Safety in Jewish SpacesReflection/Discussion Questions:April and Tracie focus their conversation on MaNishtana's Eli Talk which you can view at the link above. Watch it yourself, what were your initial reactions and takeaways. Tracie shares about her own experiences with being shut out or didn't feel a full sense of belonging within their own Jewish community. When have you felt this similar feeling in reaction to gate-keeping? What are the microsoms of this similar to what Tracie describes in Baltimore between German and Russian Jews. April speaks to the root causes of this gatekeeping, including it as a reaction to intergenerational trauma around antisemitism. What do you think about this? How could this have served us in the past but not in our current moment? Another potential root that April and Tracie discuss is that we may have some internalized antisemitism and that we can't love our neighbor as ourselves if we truly don't love ourselves in the context of White Supremacy Capitalism. What are the ways in which you may have internalized antisemitism? April asks what would it feel like if we got the healing we need and just enjoy and savory the diversity of our religion and our community? What would it feel like to you? What would that look like? April brings up MaNishtana's point that we are a global people were originally 12 tribes that originated from Africa and West Asia, and now with globalization, we are a diasporic people made up of new types of tribes. April invites you to practice this thinking and framework to help bring ease to the antiracism work you are doing. How can you practice with this framework? How can you build this lens in a deeper way?
Jack in to the mainframe and defrag your RAMs this week as we come down with "Contagion"!Pete the Retailer of Star Wars Minute and ABCD: TOS returns to the show to discuss an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation that is part of the backbone of early TNG. When the USS Yamato is destroyed by a systems failure, Picard will have to take up the enigmatic search of her late captain. But when eerily similar problems begin affecting the Enterprise, the crew must race against time, the Romulans, and their own technology to escape the Yamato's fate!Everyone knows TNG didn't get "good" until Season 3, but a closer examination of early TNG (specifically Season 2) reveals that the strength in storytelling and characterization that would galvanize the series was already well underway. Solid entries like "Contagion", "Samaritan Snare", and "The Measure of a Man" continued Trek's reputation for satisfying sci-fi fare while the show was still growing into the classic series it would become. On this episode, we discuss the baseline of quality TNG delivers, the prolific output of episode writer Steve Gerber, the persistent echoes of TOS in early TNG, finding the right balance of drama and humor in Trek, building trust with your audience, the technological status quo of the galaxy, the cultural parallels of the infection narrative, and the big ideas that TNG goes after. We also discuss swinging negative on Star Wars, loving "The Rise of Skywalker", the different "Um, actuallys" between Wars and Trek fans, "making love to the alien", explaining computer viruses to Gene Roddenberry, Tea Earl Grey not, Kunta Kinte's dad, backseat producing, 2365 by way of 1989, hot Romulans, "Kirky" Picard, Human Zima, and even MORE *MORE* Starlost talk!Have you tried turning your android off and back on again?Follow Pete on Twitter and check out his website and podcasts!https://twitter.com/PeteTheRetailerhttps://twitter.com/StarWarsMinutehttps://twitter.com/ABCDTOShttp://www.petetheretailer.comLearn the story behind your favorite Trek episodes with BackTrekking!http://www.twitter.com/backtrekkingDebug with us on Facebook and Twitter and the Just Enough Trope Discord!http://www.facebook.com/eistpodhttp://www.twitter.com/eistpodhttps://discord.gg/ATMBeUDBuy us a new android on Patreon and Ko-Fi!http://www.patreon.com/eistpodhttps://ko-fi.com/E1E01M2UASubscribe to the show on iTunes!https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/enterprising-individuals/id1113165661?mt=2
