Adults Need Hobbies Too & September Is My New Years

Thursday, August 27th: Apparently I've entered my “try new things” era.I've been thinking about why so many of us stop learning, experimenting, and picking up new hobbies once we become adults. I recently started getting into art, painting, drawing with markers, learning about different techniques, and I am OBSESSED. My entire algorithm is basically art now, I'm taking art classes this fall, and I genuinely can't remember the last time I was this excited to be a complete beginner at something.I'm also taking tennis lessons, attempting to actually get better at a new sport. We're talking about why hobbies and learning new skills are so important as adults, especially when they have absolutely nothing to do with being productive, making money, or being “good” at them.I'm also sharing why September is my personal New Year. With back-to-school season approaching, I'm thinking about how I want my fall routine to look: creating a better work schedule, intentionally leaving white space in my calendar, and getting back into a supplement routine that I can actually stick with. I'm sharing the five supplements I'm planning to take and why I'm keeping the routine simple.Plus, we're chatting about Apple's Education Store and pricing, some new Apple features that are absolutely blowing my mind and making me wish I could be a student again. The new MacBook Neo has been loaned to us and it's adorable, super approachable, and is the perfect starter laptop for Milo to begin learning the basics and getting comfortable using a computer before he eventually needs one for school.THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!AquaOmega - For your daily dose of Omega-3's, go to myaquaomega.com/MOMROOM and use code MOMROOM for 20% off.Bellesa - Today's episode is sponsored by Bellesa Boutique! ADHD can go unnoticed for decades, especially in women who learn to compensate through perfectionism, overpreparing, and working under pressure. It often isn't until the demands of work, motherhood, or another major life transition become too much that the underlying struggle comes into view. In this episode, I sit down with ADHD counselor Jenna Free, author of The Simple Guide to ADHD Regulation, to explore what she calls the frantic-crash cycle. She explains how chronic fight-or-flight may intensify ADHD symptoms and why nervous system regulation can make other tools and strategies easier to use. You'll learn: Why women and high achievers can compensate for ADHD for decades before their usual coping strategies stop working How perfectionism, procrastination, and working under pressure can keep the frantic-crash cycle going The physical signs of nervous system dysregulation, including shallow breathing, muscle tension, and rushing even when there's no real urgency Why calming your body is only the first step in creating lasting change How you can move away from all-or-nothing behavior and build a more sustainable way of getting things done A diagnosis can help you understand how your brain works, but it doesn't have to define what's possible. By learning to recognize and regulate survival mode, you can create the conditions for your brain to work at its best. Principal Matters: The School Leader's Podcast with William D. Parker

A Quick Note to Listeners: Before each week’s interview, Will Parker and Jen Schwanke take some time to answer a listener question. This week’s question is: I'm new to my role as a principal after years as an AP, and I've set my calendar for what I believe are the most important priorities. How do I prepare for the unknowns — those responsibilities or expectations I won't be aware of until they happen for the first time? Listen in to hear their response! Meet Kurtis Hewson: Kurtis Hewson is an award-winning educator, former teacher and administrator, and a respected post-secondary instructor. He is the co-founder of Jigsaw Learning and works with schools and districts across North America and internationally to design and implement Collaborative Response frameworks that improve outcomes for all learners. Known for his practical, systems-level approach, Kurtis supports thousands of educators each year in strengthening collaboration, assessment, and responsive instruction. He and his wife, Lorna Hewson, have an upcoming book, Collaborative Team Meetings: The Piece Connecting PLCs and MTSS, focused on helping schools build powerful collaborative team meetings—an essential structure within the Collaborative Response framework that empowers educators and directly impacts student success. Joining us from Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, Kurtis brings both classroom experience and leadership insight to help schools create systems that truly support every learner. He previously joined me on Principal Matters in 2024. You can listen to that episode here. Moving from Groups to Teams: One of the most powerful themes from our conversation was the distinction between working in groups and working as a team. Kurtis reflected on lessons learned from Richard DuFour and explained that many schools operate as collegial groups where people enjoy one another, share ideas, and support each other. While those qualities are valuable, true collaboration requires something deeper. Teams are willing to challenge assumptions, examine practices openly, and engage in conversations that can sometimes feel uncomfortable because they are focused on growth rather than simply maintaining harmony. The schools that make the greatest progress are not necessarily the schools with the most programs. They are the schools that intentionally build trust, safety, and structures that allow adults to learn together. As Kurtis put it, collaboration often means becoming comfortable being uncomfortable because meaningful learning happens when we invite others into our thinking and practice. The Four Layers of Collaboration: Kurtis described four layers of collaboration that exist in effective schools. He emphasized that these layers apply whether a school has five staff members or 150. Each serves a distinct purpose, but together they create a connected system of support. The first layer is Collaborative Planning, where teams focus on curriculum, standards, assessments, and instructional planning. This is where traditional PLC work often lives. The second layer is Collaborative Team Meetings, which Kurtis describes as the missing piece. These meetings focus on instructional challenges, shared problem-solving, and expanding the collective capacity of teachers before concerns escalate to formal intervention processes. The third layer is the School Support Team, which coordinates additional interventions, services, and supports for students who need more than classroom-level responses. The fourth layer is Case Consult, where teams focus on individual students or families whose situations require highly personalized attention and, in some cases, support from outside agencies. What struck me most was Kurtis’s observation that many schools have the first, third, and fourth layers in place but often overlook the second. Without that bridge, teachers can quickly move from classroom concerns to formal referrals without fully leveraging the collective expertise already present within the building. What Makes Collaborative Team Meetings Different?: Traditional meetings often begin with a student. Collaborative team meetings begin with a challenge. Instead of launching into a lengthy discussion about a particular child, the teacher identifies a key issue such as reading comprehension, task completion, classroom engagement, or on-task stamina. The conversation then focuses on strategies rather than stories. This subtle shift changes everything. When teachers discuss the challenge first, they quickly discover that others are experiencing similar issues. The conversation becomes less about diagnosing a single student and more about expanding the team’s toolbox of responses. The result is a culture where educators learn from one another and leave meetings with practical ideas they can implement immediately. A Meeting Structure That Builds Collective Efficacy: One of the most practical parts of our conversation was Kurtis’s explanation of what these meetings actually look like. Several elements are consistently present in effective collaborative team meetings: Begin with celebrations and successes. Ask what contributed to those successes. Identify a specific instructional challenge. Invite colleagues to share strategies and ideas. Commit to one action step before leaving the meeting. Rather than treating success as something to acknowledge briefly before moving on, Kurtis encourages teams to examine it closely. Asking, “What did you do that contributed to that success?” helps educators identify effective practices and share them with colleagues. Over time, this creates stronger collective efficacy because teachers begin to see the impact of their actions more clearly. Why This Matters for School Leaders: I was particularly struck by Kurtis’s observation that collaborative team meetings are not ultimately about meetings at all. They are about creating habits of thinking. The real evidence of success is when teachers begin asking one another for ideas, experimenting with new approaches, and seeking solutions together long after the meeting has ended. As we wrapped up, Kurtis challenged us to think beyond immediate solutions and instead create structures that empower others to respond effectively. Sustainable improvement happens when systems, not just individuals, become stronger. Now It’s Your Turn: As you prepare for a new school year, consider where collaboration is strongest in your school and where it may be breaking down. Are your meetings creating new learning, or are they simply sharing information? Are teachers leaving with practical next steps, or are conversations ending without action? Most importantly, are your systems helping adults learn from one another in ways that ultimately benefit students? Those questions may reveal the next leadership move your school needs to make. You can connect with Kurtis Hewson via his website, and view his Collaborative meeting Starter Kit here. Or find his new book, Collaborative Team Meetings: The Piece Connecting PLCs and MTSS here. Thank you for listening to Principal Matters, and thank you for doing what matters! Revisiting an important episode this week with Dr. Alison Yeung, family physician and creator of @thesmartphoneeffectmd, where she talks all things smartphones, social media, and (of course) kids. Why are so many parents struggling to set screen time boundaries? How is technology impacting our kids' mental health, attention spans, and motivation? And how do we navigate platforms like Roblox, YouTube Kids, and even school-issued iPads?Renee and Dr. Yeung get real about balancing technology use, setting routines, and why it's not just about “parenting harder”—it's about pushing back against industries designed to hook our kids. If you've ever wondered when to give your child a phone (or if they really need one), how to protect their downtime, or how your phone habits shape theirs, this is a must-listen.FOLLOW ALISON:Instagram: @thesmartphoneeffectmdTHANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!AquaOmega - For your daily dose of Omega-3's, go to myaquaomega.com/MOMROOM and use code MOMROOM for 20% off.Bellesa - Today's episode is sponsored by Bellesa Boutique! 440 | When Success Isn't Enough: Healthy Ambition, Midlife + a More Faithful Rhythm, ft Claire Davis

Midlife…Maybe you've noticed it too.You still care deeply about your calling. You still want to make an impact. You still have ideas, responsibilities and people you love. But the pace you once kept doesn't fit quite the same anymore.Your energy has changed. Your capacity may have changed. Your roles are changing. And somewhere in the middle of it all, you may be asking, “What is this season for?”We've been talking a lot around here about a theology of time, how what we believe about God and time shapes what we do with our days. Today's conversation with Claire Davis of The Midlife Mentors adds another layer:The God who created time also created you. Your body isn't an inconvenience to your calling. Your limitations aren't something you have to outsmart. And a change in season doesn't necessarily mean you're becoming less useful. It may be an invitation to become more discerning about what you're carrying into the next one.Ready to Start Redeeming Your Time?If this conversation has you realizing it's time for a different rhythm, you don't need another productivity system. You need a place to start.I've put together the free REDEEM Her Time Starter Kit to help you begin asking the question that changes everything: “Lord, what is it time for?”Inside, you'll get the foundational tools to start giving what matters a home in your actual week, while leaving room for your capacity, your season, and real life. When you grab the Starter Kit, you'll also join me here on REDEEM Her Time, where we'll keep looking to the Author of Time for what it means to faithfully steward what He's entrusted to us.What If Midlife Isn't a Decline?Claire knows something about reaching the point where striving stops working. After years of putting so much of her identity and meaning into her career, work and brand, she experienced burnout and eventually found herself at the end of herself. And that's where God met her. What followed reshaped how she understood who she was and what her life was for. That's especially significant in midlife because so much is already changing. Children may be leaving home. Parents may need more care. Hormones change. And suddenly the roles that have answered “Who am I?” for decades don't answer quite as easily anymore.Claire describes midlife as an opportunity to get curious rather than assume we're in decline. What still matters? What have we been carrying because someone else told us success was supposed to look that way? And what might God be asking us to lay down so we have the capacity to hear what He's inviting us into next?As Claire put it:“It's not about adding. It's about subtracting. It's about taking things out and living more in our natural rhythms.”That sounds a lot like stewardship to me.Healthy Ambition Requires a Different RhythmI especially wanted to ask Claire about healthy ambition because the women in this community aren't looking for permission to stop caring. We want our lives to matter. We want to build, serve, love our families and use what God has entrusted to us well. The real question is what's driving our ambition, not whether we should have it.Unhealthy ambition can look a lot like stress, striving, and not-enoughness. And we can make our striving sound very spiritual.“I'm doing this for God.” “I'm serving people.” “This opportunity could make such an impact.”All of those things may be true. And we can still outrun our capacity.Claire reminded us that the body we're living in is also part of what God has entrusted to us. Sleep matters. Movement matters. Creating space to be with God instead of filling every available minute, even with good things, matters. And sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is remove something that no longer belongs, not squeeze another healthy habit into an already-full schedule.Faithful stewardship means discerning what God has entrusted to us and letting that determine our yeses, not doing less simply for the sake of doing less.So What Is It Time for Now?Toward the end of our conversation, Claire offered a simple place to begin.Take 10 minutes a day. Grab a journal. And get curious with God.Who does God say I am? What used to bring me joy? What might He be calling me toward now?You don't need to figure out the entire second half of your life in one sitting. You simply need enough space to begin listening.Because maybe this season isn't asking you to become more efficient at carrying everything you've always carried. Maybe it's asking you to discern what belongs now.So before you move on to the next thing, sit with this week's stewardship question: “What am I still carrying because it fit a previous season, but may not belong in the one God has me in now?”Don't rush to fix it. Get curious. Bring it before God. And then ask the question we've been practicing together: “Lord, what is it time for?”I'd love to hear what comes up for you in the comments.Ready to Let That Answer Shape Your Actual Week?Recognizing that your season has changed is one thing. Letting it change the way you live Monday through Sunday is another.Inside the Stewardship Circle, you'll start with the Faithful Week Framework™ to discern what God has entrusted to you in this season, decide what deserves your yes, and give those priorities a realistic home in your week, with room for your actual capacity and real life.Because great information can help us see differently. But transformation comes as we begin living differently. And change takes time. What if your genes aren't controlling your destiny nearly as much as you've been taught to believe? And what if many of the patterns shaping your health, relationships, behavior, and perception of the world were programmed into you before you were even consciously aware of them? In this powerful conversation, Darin sits down with stem cell biologist and bestselling author Dr. Bruce Lipton to explore his theories around epigenetics, subconscious programming, consciousness, stress, evolution, and the mind-body connection. Bruce also opens up about his experience with tongue cancer and how it forced him to confront the very ideas about biology and belief that he had spent decades teaching. Together, they explore Bruce's claim that we spend as much as 95% of our lives operating through subconscious programs, many of which were downloaded during early childhood. Bruce explains why he believes our perception of the environment influences biology, why taking responsibility for unconscious patterns is essential to reclaiming personal power, and how those programs can be rewritten. The conversation expands beyond individual health into humanity itself, challenging the cultural story of "survival of the fittest" and exploring cooperation, community, consciousness, spirituality, environmental collapse, and why Bruce believes the upheaval we're experiencing may actually represent an evolutionary turning point. What You'll Learn How Bruce's experience with tongue cancer challenged him to apply his own teachings Why Bruce believes subconscious programming controls much of our everyday behavior How childhood experiences may become unconscious programs that follow us into adulthood Why falling in love can temporarily interrupt subconscious programming Bruce's explanation of epigenetics and why he rejects genetic determinism Why taking responsibility for your unconscious patterns can help you reclaim your power How stress, belief, and perception interact within Bruce's model of health and disease Why Bruce challenges the cultural interpretation of "survival of the fittest" How cooperation, community, and harmony fit into his theory of human evolution Why Bruce believes changing collective consciousness begins with individuals living differently Chapters 00:00:03 – Welcome to SuperLife 00:00:34 – Sponsor: Miko Dog 00:02:00 – Introducing Dr. Bruce Lipton 00:03:33 – Bruce's personal experience with tongue cancer 00:04:21 – Why his diagnosis brought decades of research to the forefront 00:05:23 – Bruce's belief that cancer is a symptom, not the underlying problem 00:06:23 – Why Bruce believes this message matters right now 00:07:25 – The biological imperative and humanity's drive to survive 00:08:22 – You are not a victim of your genetics 00:10:15 – Are 95% of our lives controlled by subconscious programming? This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Friday!! Let's start with the fun stuff: we've seen the #BabylistItForward movement (thank you Alex Cooper!) and we want to do this for YOU guys.. or a friend you think could use it! Comment yours (or someone else's!) Babylist links on YouTube or Spotify and we'll be picking a handful at random to send gifts to. (PS: Alex is requesting a story alongside the link!!) Ok, let's get into the episode, because it was a good one. Of course we started with three rando topics no one planned: not all shopping lists are created equal (are you a recipe planner or a free-baller?!), Harrison's new H BOMB segment "Is THIS hard for everyone or is it just ME?!" (this week: printing.. why is it SO hard), and a rare (actually not rare at all lol) Bicker of the Week between Harrison and Jules over a word they were actually both wrong about.  Then we get into the good stuff: the back to school decorating trend we LOVE, Alex's new go-to postpartum gift for moms (daytime pajamas!!), what to say when family calls your toddler's big feelings a "temper tantrum," teaching kids discernment (not just independence!), how/when phobias develop, and why playgrounds might be a child's first real taste of the world. Plus a quick note on why we're not covering the Lindsay Clancy case. Our last convo is all about ChatGPT for Teens.. including a really interesting debate on chatbot relationships, how AI is making homework easier but learning HARDER, and who the heck is supposed to be governing all of this?! The Truth About Wealth: How I Made Millions, Lost It & Built It Back Differently

What if everything we've been taught about wealth is backwards? In this deeply personal solo episode, Darin opens up about a subject he rarely discusses: money. After making millions of dollars, losing wealth more than once, trusting the wrong people, making bad investments, fighting lawsuits, and rebuilding again, Darin shares the lessons that completely transformed his relationship with money. He explores the conflicting money beliefs he inherited from his parents, why trusting someone's promises instead of their patterns cost him dearly, and why he now believes discernment should come before net worth. Darin also explains why money shouldn't be the destination but rather a tool for creation, contribution, and impact. From investing in himself and spending years building projects before they generated income to creating stronger financial structures and learning to protect what he creates, this episode is about redefining wealth beyond accumulation. Darin reveals why true abundance comes from aligning money with your purpose, vision, values, and the things you genuinely care about. What You'll Learn Why Darin believes most of what we're taught about wealth is backwards How trusting the wrong people cost him millions of dollars Why taking 100% responsibility helped him reclaim his financial power The conflicting money lessons Darin inherited from his mother and father Why money should be treated as a tool for creation rather than the destination What Darin means when he says wealth is a cycle of receiving and giving Why betting on yourself may be the most important investment you make How Darin invested years of time and money into projects before they became profitable Why discernment, alignment, and clear agreements matter more than chasing opportunities How to build wealth around a vision for your life rather than allowing money to define your identity Chapters 00:00:00 – Welcome to SuperLife 00:00:34 – Sponsor: Fatty15 00:04:15 – Why Darin is finally talking about wealth 00:04:31 – Making millions, losing it, and learning from it 00:05:26 – Why everything we're taught about wealth may be backwards 00:05:52 – The fatal conveniences of modern money 00:06:27 – The danger of handing your financial power to "experts" 00:07:19 – How ignoring discernment cost Darin millions 00:07:52 – Trust the pattern, not the promise 00:08:18 – Taking 100% responsibility for financial mistakes 00:08:51 – The hidden belief that money will simply show up 00:09:32 – What if money could tell you how you're treating it? 00:10:22 – The two conflicting money lessons Darin learned growing up 00:10:49 – What his father taught him about earning and discipline 00:11:13 – How his mother's generosity created a conflicting belief 00:12:06 – Making money was easy. Keeping it wasn't. 00:12:33 – Combining discipline with an abundance mindset 00:13:32 – Making millions without respecting money 00:14:24 – The spiritual scam that cost Darin over $100,000 00:14:47 – Gold, investments, and deals that went wrong 00:15:36 – Why trust requires discernment 00:16:31 – Money is fuel, not the destination 00:17:26 – Wealth is receiving and giving, not accumulating 00:18:23 – Why Darin refuses to make money from things he doesn't believe in 00:19:19 – Aligning wealth with your purpose and vision 00:20:08 – The financial decision that changed everything: bet on yourself 00:20:18 – Sponsor: Shakeology 00:22:05 – Stop giving your power away in partnerships 00:22:17 – How 15 years of superfood hunting created extraordinary value 00:23:10 – Why curiosity became Darin's real-world MBA 00:23:43 – Investing in the podcast years before it made money 00:24:53 – What Down to Earth taught Darin about ownership 00:26:11 – Betting on himself with The Roadmap to Happiness 00:27:09 – Turning childhood money patterns into strengths 00:27:34 – Getting serious about protecting wealth 00:28:29 – Respecting money as a tool for creation 00:28:52 – Build your discernment before your net worth 00:29:34 – Treat yourself as your first investment 00:29:59 – Practice wealth as a cycle 00:30:23 – Why money makes people behave differently 00:30:52 – Build the financial structure before you need it 00:31:20 – Why Darin's definition of wealth is different today 00:31:57 – Use money, respect it, receive it, and share it 00:32:24 – Create abundance around what you truly care about 00:32:54 – The principle Darin returns to every time he loses his way 00:33:18 – Final thoughts: what true wealth really means Thank You to Our Sponsors Fatty15: Get an additional 15% off their 90-day subscription Starter Kit by going to fatty15.com/DARIN and using code DARIN at checkout. By the time memory begins to slip, the changes affecting the brain may have been developing for decades. But the trajectory isn't fixed, and many of the factors driving it are within our control. In this episode, I sit down with my longtime friend and mentor Dr. David Perlmutter, six-time New York Times bestselling author whose new book, Brain Defenders, rethinks what it really takes to protect the brain as we age. You'll learn: Why protecting your brain should begin long before memory problems appear How your daily choices influence whether the brain's immune cells shift into a protective or damaging state Which numbers to know now, including fasting insulin, blood sugar, and waist-to-hip ratio How food, exercise, sleep, gut health, and environmental toxins shape your brain's future What emerging research reveals about slowing—and even improving—cognitive decline I've always appreciated how David's work replaces fear with something far more useful: a clearer understanding of how the choices we make today can help protect our memory, independence, and quality of life for years to come. Dave Asprey and Gabby Reece Talk Testosterone Therapy, Scream Cream, Autism as a Superpower, Cancer Protocols, and Surviving Fame in This Double Interview Episode Mega-Episode time! Your hormones might be causing symptoms you've been blaming on aging, stress, or your heart. This double interview episode gives you a real look at biohacking from two different angles: cutting-edge longevity science and the lived experience of hormone optimization after 50. Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR Host Dave Asprey sits down with Gabby Reece, an American athletic icon, wellness entrepreneur, and one of the most influential voices in women's health, fitness, and performance. A former professional beach volleyball player who became Nike's first female spokesperson and shoe designer, Gabby set volleyball records at Florida State University that still stand today, and her signature Nike shoe line famously outsold Air Jordan during its release. She has since built a career at the intersection of performance and longevity, co-founding Hamilton House, Laird Superfood (NYSE: LSF), XPT, and HIGHX, and hosting both The Gabby Reece Show and the Proof of Practice podcast alongside leading voices in women's health and evidence-based performance. She is also a New York Times bestselling author. In this episode, Gabby turns the tables and interviews Dave herself, creating a rare two-way conversation between two people deeply immersed in human performance and biohacking. Dave and Gabby dig into how mitochondria function as quantum systems that shape everything from cognitive performance to spiritual perception, why autism can come with genuine neurological superpowers, and what actually happens in the body when hormone levels shift after 40. Gabby shares her personal protocol, including weekly testosterone injections, an estradiol patch, and a compounded hormone cream that most people have never heard of, and explains how correcting her hormones, not her thyroid, resolved a heart arrhythmia doctors initially missed. The conversation also covers Dave's approach to cancer protocols, why he avoids GLP-1 drugs despite their longevity benefits, the peptides he actually uses for mitochondrial renewal, and how cyclical ketosis, fasting, and a carnivore-leaning diet fit into a sustainable performance strategy. They also talk about AI's growing role in personalized longevity research, sleep optimization while traveling, and the supplement and functional medicine protocols Dave relies on daily. You'll Learn: Why Gabby's heart arrhythmia turned out to be a hormone problem, not a cardiac one, and how testosterone fixed it when nothing else worked What "scream cream" actually is, how it works through vasodilation, and why doctors quietly prescribe it during hormone replacement therapy How mitochondria function as quantum systems and why improving their function can sharpen intuition, focus, and perception Why Dave believes autism comes paired with real cognitive advantages once the physical burden of the condition is addressed What Dave would actually do if diagnosed with cancer, from antifungal protocols to high-power infrared light and early detection screening The peptides Dave uses for mitochondrial renewal, including SS31 and lesser-known Russian bioregulators like epitalon and pinealon Why Dave avoids GLP-1 drugs despite believing low doses carry real longevity benefits How cyclical ketosis, fasting windows, and a carnivore-leaning diet support sustainable long-term metabolism Why surrender, not control, was the hardest and most expensive lesson of Dave's career Gabby's advice for raising confident daughters and why she believes success is less about deserving it and more about how you steward it Thank you to our sponsors! - Beyond Wonderland Conference | Oct 13 - 14, 2026. Beth also shares how she was diagnosed with celiac disease a year ago, after five years of iron infusions and a hematologist who told her that as long as she was getting her period, she'd keep needing them.Renee and Beth get into the symptoms nobody warns you about: the sudden food aversions, the phase where everything smells like onions, cereal for dinner three times a week, and the 3AM wake-ups where one small worry suddenly feels like life or death. Both started making content in 2020, so they also compare notes on what six years of it has done to their lives — the pull to turn every moment into a post, the boundaries Beth set after hitting a rock bottom a few months ago, and her decision to keep her 10-year-old daughter offline entirely.Beth is an actor and sketch comedian, and she's currently building something special... In this Bite of Knowledge, I'm breaking down what allulose is, how it's made, and why its GMO status and labeling can be confusing. Full show notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/dylan In this episode with Dylan Gemelli, you'll hear one of the wildest origin stories in the health world. Dylan went from college athlete to Milan model to cocaine dealer to a 15-year prison sentence, and came out on the Fourth of July with two felonies, no job prospects, and a decision to start over. Within a year he had a million YouTube subscribers explaining compounds almost nobody was talking about yet, and today he hosts the number one health and fitness podcast in the country. You'll also get the practical side: what SARMs really are and why he turned against steroids, what happened when a routine calcium score came back at 120 with an Lp(a) of 330, how he pushed back against the Mayo Clinic and got that number down into the 90s anyway, and what he learned about ejection fraction and chronic cardio the hard way. Dylan explains why he believes many biohackers are among the unhealthiest people out there, how stacking too many supplements and peptides creates redundancy that backfires, and which lesser-known peptides will rise in popularity. August 13th, 2026: What does being "productive" actually mean when you stop comparing your life to hundreds of other people's lives online? In this solo episode of The Mom Room, I'm chatting about a few things that have been on my mind lately, starting with the fact that I've somehow fallen back into my old habit of making MASSIVE to-do lists. Summer has been amazing, but being out of our normal routine, constantly changing schedules, and trying to fit work into unpredictable weeks has definitely made staying organized a little harder. I'm already looking ahead to September and some new work habits I want to try, including time blocking and being much more intentional about what actually needs to get done.I also share my ridiculously quick and easy morning makeup routine with our friends at MERIT Beauty. Getting ready has never been easier, and it fits perfectly with this season of wanting things to feel simpler, not more complicated. Then we get into another major change I've noticed since I stopped mindlessly scrolling social media: I've completely changed the way I think about productivity. When you're constantly consuming other people's routines, workouts, meals, businesses, homes, parenting, habits and endless "productive day in my life" content, it's very easy to feel like you're never doing enough. Since I stopped watching what everyone else is doing, I'm much more relaxed about my own days. I'm focusing on what I actually want to prioritize instead of subconsciously adopting everyone else's priorities. And finally... I clarify what I meant when I said on Instagram Stories this week that I cannot stand the "woe is me" content people post for engagement. Because apparently I had some thoughts.

In this heartfelt conversation, Darin Olien sits down with filmmaker, storyteller, and animal advocate Maria Bertrand to explore the extraordinary relationship she formed with Happy—a tiny sparrow deemed "unreleasable" after a beak injury. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, we've got a very special guest!! This conversation could not be more top of mind for us: earlier this week we talked about how much more risk tolerant we USED to be (ex: we once loved helicopters.. now we won't get on one hahaha). Because as new parents, we're focused on one thing: how do we live to 100 (no like actually literally??) so we can spend as much time with our kids as possible?! Enter Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson: veterinary epidemiologist, healthy aging researcher, and co-founder of fatty15 (a proud TPAP sponsor!). Dr. Stephanie's research with Navy dolphins (yes, the Navy has dolphins?!) led to the discovery of C15:0 as the first essential fatty acid identified in over 90 years, and the origin story is SO fun (bc who doesn't love dolphins).  We get into the science behind aging well: what healthy aging actually means (preserving the best of who we are for as long as possible!), what a "geroprotector" is and why scientists call it the holy grail, and Dr. Stephanie's top priorities for healthy aging (diet, movement and sleep before ANY supplement). Then her top 3 supplements worth taking, how to get C15:0 naturally through your diet vs. supplementing, and how it impacts all of us: adults, breastfeeding moms, and kids (the whole milk convo was fascinating!!) And after ALL that science, Dr. Stephanie's #1 rec for parents for healthy aging this week is still: get outside with your kids and run around. Socialization, exercise and better sleep, all in one!! Hope everyone has a great weekend :-) LOVE YOU GUYS! Timestamps: 00:00:00 Welcome back to Two Parents & A Podcast! 00:00:51 Meet Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson, fatty15 co-founder and C15:0 researcher 00:05:50 What actually IS healthy aging?! 00:09:18 What's a geroprotector?! (spoiler alert: the holy grail of healthy aging) 00:10:52 The foods with the most C15:0 (good news: butter and cheese!!) 00:13:01 What else contributes to healthy aging?! (sleep, socializing & your HEARING?!) 00:17:50 Top 3 priorities for healthy aging according to Stephanie 00:25:56 The top 3 supplements worth taking according to Steaphanie 00:37:07 How C15:0 impacts kids (and the whole milk debate!) 00:42:40 We were all told fat is BAD: the biggest misconceptions 00:45:37 Founding fatty15 00:49:26 The ONE thing tired parents should do this week for healthier aging 00:50:42 Thank you for listening! #twoparentsandapod --------------------------------------------------------------- Find our guest: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/fatty15 TikTok | https://www.tiktok.com/@fatty15 Website | https://www.fatty15.com/TWOPARENTS Follow Two Parents & A Podcast: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/twoparentsandapod TikTok | https://www.tiktok.com/@twoparentsandapod Follow Alex Fugman: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/alexfugman TikTok | https://www.tiktok.com/@justalexfugman Follow Harrison Fugman: Instagram | https://www.instagram.com/harrisonfugman TikTok | https://www.tiktok.com/@harrisonfugman --------------------------------------------------------------- Listen to the pod on YouTube/Spotify/Apple: https://www.youtube.com/@twoparentsandapod https://open.spotify.com/show/7BxuZnHmNzOX9MdnzyU4bD?si=5e715ebaf9014fac https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/two-parents-a-podcast/id1737442386 -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you to our sponsors this week: *fatty15: You can get an additional 15% off their 90-day subscription Starter Kit by going to https://www.fatty15.com/TWOPARENTS and using code TWOPARENTS at checkout!  -------------------------------------------------------------- Powered by: Just Media House – https://www.justmediahouse.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Full show notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/peptides2026 In this episode with Dr. Matt Cook, recorded days after he returned from Washington, D.C., you'll get a breakdown of what just happened to peptides in the United States. You'll hear what the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee actually voted on, why seven popular peptides were pulled two years ago, which six of the seven were just recommended for the bulk list, which one was left off, and what all of it means for your ability to get peptides legally from a pharmacy instead of the gray market. You'll also get a guided tour of the peptides themselves: BPC-157 for gut and tissue healing, KPV for inflammation, TB-500 for cell migration and wound repair, MOTS-c as an exercise mimetic, Semax for memory and learning, Epitalon for sleep and longevity, and DSIP for sleep. Dr. Cook explains why peptides behave so differently from ordinary drugs, walks through a safety review covering millions of doses, and shows how his company LifeOS pulls your labs, wearables, and genetics into one HIPAA-compliant place. And if you want to keep every peptide straight, Dr. Cook built a peptide cheat sheet covering what each one does, how to dose it, and where to source it. August 6th, 2026: In this episode of The Live Better Project, I'm sharing one of the biggest changes I've noticed since I stopped mindlessly scrolling social media: my attention span is coming back. For years, I couldn't watch a TV show without checking my phone, read a book during the day without getting distracted, or simply enjoy a moment without wondering if I should be filming it for social media. Even conversations were constantly interrupted by notifications or the urge to check my phone. But after just a few weeks of intentionally putting my phone down for longer periods of time, something surprising happened.I can sit through an entire episode of Big Brother without reaching for my phone. I can read in the middle of the day. I can have uninterrupted conversations. I can enjoy experiences without feeling like every moment needs to become content. It's not perfect, but the difference has been shocking. In this episode, we discuss:How mindless scrolling changed my ability to focusWhy every moment doesn't need to become contentThe surprising speed at which attention can recoverWhy being present feels so much more fulfilling than documenting everythingSmall habits that helped me spend less time on my phoneIf you've ever wondered where your attention span went, this episode is for you.THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS!Bellesa - Today's episode is sponsored by Bellesa Boutique! Marlie cohen, aka Kale and Krunches, joins The Mom Room this week to talk all about fitness and nutrition! This episode is for anyone who feels overwhelmed with all the weight loss, diet, and exercise advice online. Marlie stresses why strength training is so important for women, and speaks to those who have grown up in the "shrink yourself" era. As someone who fell in love with fitness later in life, Marlie knows the struggle of balancing it all - working out, sleeping well, being a mom, etc. To help other busy working moms out there, she created an app called Bounce Forward that provides several different programs for getting on the right track and staying consistent with your goals. Also, you may have seen Marlie on your feed when her reel of taking a chicken breast to brunch went viral. Full show notes: https://bengreenfieldlife.com/saunapodcast In this episode with Luke Chapman and Owen Buchanan, founders of Western Sol, you'll hear the story behind the custom sauna I recently had built in my backyard in Idaho, and the story behind the company itself, which started when a mold exposure in Hawaii sent Luke into daily sauna use. You'll gain insights into the actual science of heat shock proteins and dynorphins (the opioid peptides your body releases under heat stress), why most sauna wood is loaded with VOCs, and how thermally pressed aspen and spruce sourced from Estonia solves that problem entirely. We'll also touch on how Western Sol engineers oxygen-rich air recirculation, Himalayan salt therapy, and even full electrical grounding directly into the sauna floor, and you'll get a full walkthrough of what it costs to get a custom or prefabricated sauna built. Luke Chapman and Owen Buchanan are the founders of Western Sol, a custom and prefabricated sauna company based in Idaho. Both grew up around custom home construction in their family businesses before turning their focus toward building non-toxic, low-VOC saunas designed to support healing of the mind, body, and soul. They travel throughout Europe to source materials and study traditional sauna culture at its origin. You can find out more about Western Sol and schedule a free consultation here. For decades, depression has often been described as the result of a chemical imbalance in the brain. But how strong is the evidence behind that idea? This episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to be actively debated and is intended to encourage thoughtful discussion—not to provide individualized medical advice. Today on The Dr. Hyman Show, I'm joined by psychiatrist and researcher Dr. Joanna Moncrieff to examine the science behind the serotonin theory and explore how it shaped modern mental health care. Together, we consider why rethinking our assumptions may open the door to a more complete understanding of depression and recovery. We discuss: • Whether depression is best understood through the lens of a chemical imbalance—or something far more complex • How the serotonin theory shaped modern psychiatry and why it's increasingly being questioned • What current research says about antidepressants, emotional numbing, and informed consent • Why lifestyle, nutrition, trauma, and social connection deserve a larger role in supporting mental health • How a more individualized, whole-person approach could change the way we think about depression and recovery Mental health treatment is deeply personal, and this episode explores one perspective on an area of medicine that continues to evolve. If you're currently taking antidepressants or other prescription medications, don't stop or change your treatment based on this discussion alone. Instead, use it as a starting point for an informed conversation with your healthcare provider. Learn More: Dr. Moncrieff recently participated in an FDA Expert Panel on SSRIs and Pregnancy. If you'd like to explore another perspective on the evidence discussed in this episode, you can watch the panel here.
