Rates of depression among people who struggle with disordered eating are high.   I see this come up in my clients in two main ways:   ➡️ Depressive symptoms increasing as they try to eat more and exercise less to stop binge eating, get their periods back and regulate their hunger and cravings    ➡️ Depression worsening body image issues or being triggered by body image triggers that come up in recovery   For many clients, depression improves immediately as they start changing the behaviors that were causing them to feel like a prisoner to obsession and anxiety around food.   For others, more support is needed.   If you're struggling with depression in disordered eating recovery - this does not always mean you are doing something WRONG.   Restrictive eating and compulsive exercise can be coping mechanisms.   When we release them…sometimes the stuff we REALLY need to confront in order to heal and live our healthiest, happiest lives comes flooding in.    And that often doesn't feel good at first.   You are not alone.   To discuss this topic I brought Sarah Dosanjh (The Binge Eating Therapist) on the podcast, a therapist out of the UK who specializes in binge eating.   We cover: The statistics on depression and eating disorders Why depression can get worse during ED recovery The symptoms and spectrum of depression The links between perfectionism, the inner critic and depression How body image and depression interact Tools and mindset shifts to manage depression   To learn more from or contact Sarah: Instagram: @the_binge_eating_therapist  Website: https://thebingeeatingtherapist.com/# Podcast: Life After Diets Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TheBingeEatingTherapist To learn more about working with me, click this link: bit.ly/elenakwebsite

After the prime minister dropped his bombshell assassination accusation against India, the world has waited for him to back it up. And the unserious way Trudeau has handled allegations around the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar hasn't helped. Dosanjh, a former Liberal cabinet minister and B.C. NDP premier, joins Brian this week to explain what's really going on with the allegations, Indian diaspora politics, and how Ottawa has undermined Canada's global reputation with its shallow approach to the significance of India and the issue of Khalistan separatists in Canada. This proved to be "hell" for the French and Mahaffy families, according to the families lawyer Tim Danson. - Meanwhile the federal government wanted the families to pay over $19,000 in court costs for the government lawyers. Justice Glennys McVeigh sided with the government and ordered the families to pay $4,000 in costs. - The government would walk back the cost order and the battle continues....because Paul Bernardo "has his privacy rights."   Meanwhile a private citizen started a Go Fund Me page to raise money for the French and Mahaffy families to pay the legal bills from Tim Danson incurred over the years he has represented them. Danson spoke with me about this and assured his work for the families always has been and always will be pro bono. Birgitte Dosanjh is a physiotherapist and pilates teacher, and mother of two: Iona, 5 and Oskar, 2. Although it's a slight departure for this podcast to speak to someone who doesn't identify as a Buddhist or have a regular meditation practice, Birgitte has resonated a great deal with my book “Zen and the Art of Dealing with Difficult People” and wanted to share some of her own amazing insights here around dealing with her children. (Full disclosure: Birgitte is one of my wife's oldest friends). In this interview, Birgitte describes the difficult backdrop into which her second child was born and how, as a result, she ended up with post-natal depression and having to seek professional help. She talks about how her journey through this has taught her many things about what it is to be a parent, including the importance of letting go, honesty and acceptance. As she says, she's realised the truth of the phrase “smooth seas never make a good sailor,” and has come to value those rougher seas. She also talks about dealing with meltdowns and the value of understanding what happens when we “flip our lid” (referencing the analogy of what happens in the brain when we lose emotional regulation as described by Professor of Psychiatry Daniel Siegel and in my book). Of interest to many parents will be how she describes the importance she's found in allowing her children to feel what they feel without dismissing or overreacting to those feelings.Credit for phrase “magnetising to another's emotional state” goes to “Why Mutual Face Watching Matters” by Keena Cummins. This podcast is sponsored by Zen Minded – an online lifestyle store offering you the very best of Japanese craft, incense & other Zen-inspired home-goods. It also speaks to the cross-sectoral allyship between doctors and lawyers to raise awareness of ACEs and how they can work together to promote the well-being of their patients and clients. Brain science tells us that ACEs are a significant public health issue because they can cause toxic stress that impacts the immediate, long-term, and intergenerational mental and physical health of children and youth. Family justice issues often involve one or more ACE. Acting collaboratively to reduce toxic stress and support families experiencing family justice issues will mitigate the negative impact and promote family well-being.  In this episode Dr Dosanjh speaks to guests, Dr Linda Uyeda, a family doctor, Linda Hamilton QC, the President of the Law Society of BC, and Jane Morley, QC, from Access to Justice BC. Epi 101

Cannabis Hispano

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 19, 2021 13:58

In this episode we are talking about how leaders can incorporate the skills of a coach into their day-to-day leadership style with Teg Dosanjh from Samsung Electronics UK.  Teg is the Director of Connected Services and Technology at Samsung Electronics UK, a role he's held since 2016. Teg has over 20 years' experience in the telecoms industry, having held senior roles with brands such as Telefonica O2, HTC and Vodafone. He has significant expertise in developing successful business strategy, commercial partner management and cross category innovation. But that's not why I was so keen to have Teg join me on the show. I've had the privilege of working with Teg and his team over the past few years, and I've been struck by his commitment to developing and coaching those that he leads. Having experienced the good, the bad and the ugly of leadership himself, Teg has modelled himself into a developmental leader. One who integrates the skills of a coach into his day-to-day leadership and management.  By his own admission, he sets very high standards for his team and has high expectations of them, but he also works very hard to support, coach and mentor them. In this episode we really get into the weeds of why he has adopted this approach, how he developed the skills he needed and what this looks like on a practical basis. THE REAL ESTATE SESSIONS PODCAST Episode 265:  Host: BILL RISSER Guest: NINA DOSANJH  Our guest today has a real passion for serving her clients. She facilitates her clients in the navigation of real estate in the San Francisco area. Our guest today is Nina Dosanjh, Director of Strategic Alliances and Technology at Vanguard Properties, and most recently the President of the San Francisco Association of Realtors.  In this episode, join Nina and me as we navigate some of the Bay Area's biggest misconceptions and how the Bay area real estate world acts as a trendsetter for the nation. We also discuss the importance of volunteerism and some future predictions for MLS regulations!  Top Takeaways:  Nina Dosanjh's Advice for New Agents  "Set up systems and set them up early. If you take the time to do that from the beginning, everything else will fall into place. You have to have a system because it's easy to get lost in the day to day and do a lot without really doing a lot. Set up the system, time block, create a program for yourself that you're going to stick with."  "When I first got into the business, my manager at the time said to me, 'You have two things in this business: you have your time and your reputation. You decide what those two things are going to mean for you.'… I took that into my real estate journey, and I'm glad that I did. I think I wouldn't be here today and I wouldn't know the people who I know across the country and have built the relationships there if I had not stepped up." – Nina Dosanjh [10:44] "That's the misconception that people have, and technology is going to replace me. I like to look at it like it really isn't going to replace you because this is a relationship business, we've learned that in the middle of this pandemic. We learned that the relationship does matter, you can automate a lot of things, but you can't automate that person-to-person." – Nina Dosanjh [22:14] Episode Highlights: [00:22] Intro  [00:48] Meet Nina Dosanjh – Strategic Alliances and Technology Director  [01:33] Native to North Carolina and Drawn to the Bay Area  [02:34] Biggest Misconceptions About the Bay  [05:05] First Job After College, REO Marketing Manager   [08:06] Mastering the Basics and Building Strong Relationships  [10:14] Why Volunteerism Is So Important to Nina  [13:56] Transitioning to Vanguard Properties  [15:44] Director of Strategic Alliances in Technology  [17:20] MLS Associations and the Future for MLS Regulation  [21:40] The Good and Bad of Technology Use in Real Estate  [25:29] Nina's Advice for New Agents  [26:47] Connect with Nina  [26:54] Closing Thoughts  [27:06] Outro  Episode Notes:  Joining us today is Nina Dosanjh, Director of Strategic Alliances and Technology at Vanguard Properties. A native of Northern California, Nina grew up in a small central valley town called Ceres, where her family still resides. Nina Dosanjh later relocated to San Francisco for the city life and the connection the city holds with her grandfather. He landed in the city in the early fifties after emigrating to America.  Nina shares one of the biggest misconceptions of the Bay Area is that everyone is super progressive. Although it is a very progressive city, there are varying degrees to the area's progressiveness. After graduating from San Francisco State University, Nina started at Coldwell Banker as an REO Marketing Manager. This position allowed Nina to build relationships with asset managers around the nation as she attended REO conferences. After a few years with the company, Nina attained her real estate license. She worked an additional nine years with Coldwell Banker sharing that the company believed mostly in growing from within.  In late 2017, Nina Dosanjh accepted a position as the Director of Strategic Alliances and...

If the first king of kings came to abolish the system that divides us, why are we so hell-bent on identifying with such systems. In this episode three Singh's discuss the role that we each must play in recognising that caste is NOT a Sikh way of living. If parents are insisting on caste in finding a partner, if family are insisting on socialising with those only from the same caste, or our friends are obsessed with Dosanjh's 6ft Jatt - we have got to be berry careful of what we are teaching our kids. Identifying yourselves as a Sikh Sikh Jatt or a Sikh Tharkaan - these doesn't exist ... you are either a Sikh; or you are a Jatt/Tharkaan. Ujjal Dosanjh is Canada’s first Indo Canadian to be named premier. Ujjal Dosanjh was born in India in 1947, then moved to England before settling in Canada in 1968. In British Columbia, he earned a BA from Simon Fraser University and a law degree from the University of British Columbia before setting up his own law practice in Vancouver. He got involved with human rights work through the Civil Liberties Association, multicultural support organizations and the Farm Workers' Union. Although a moderate in the Indo Canadian community, Dosanjh learned about political extremism and brutality the hard way when he was attacked and severely beaten one day by members of his community who did not share his views. He entered British Columbia politics in 1991 as an NDP MLA, and eventually worked his way through a number of cabinet portfolios, including the honoured role of attorney general between 1995 and 2000. When his premier, Glen Clark, was involved in a scandal involving favouritism toward a neighbour, Dosanjh was not able to protect him. Premier Clark stepped down and Dosanjh won the leadership of his party. Dosanjh was sworn in as British Columbia’s premier – the first Indo Canadian to hold that title – on February 24, 2000. However, due to his predecessor’s scandal and other political blunders, the following year’s election wiped out all but two of the NDP MLAs, and Dosanjh was not one of them. He returned to practice law until Prime Minister Paul Martin asked him to change parties and run for the federal Liberals. Dosanjh agreed and won a seat in the election of June 2004. The next month, he was appointed federal minister of health in Martin’s short-lived government. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
