pWotD Episode 2611: UEFA European Championship Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 182,561 views on Tuesday, 25 June 2024 our article of the day is UEFA European Championship. The UEFA European Football Championship, less formally the European Championship and informally the Euros, is the primary association football tournament organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). The competition is contested by UEFA members' senior men's national teams, determining the continental champion of Europe. It is the second-most watched football tournament in the world after the FIFA World Cup; the Euro 2016 final was watched by a global audience of around 600 million. The competition has been held every four years since 1960, except for 2020, when it was postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, but kept the name Euro 2020. Scheduled to be in the even-numbered year between FIFA World Cup tournaments, it was originally called the European Nations' Cup before changing to its current name in 1968. Since 1996, the individual events have been branded as "UEFA Euro [year]".Before entering the tournament, all teams other than the host nations (which qualify automatically) compete in a qualifying process. Until 2016, the championship winners could compete in the following year's FIFA Confederations Cup, but were not obliged to do so. From the 2020 edition onwards, the winner competes in the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions. The sixteen European Championship tournaments have been won by ten national teams: Germany and Spain have each won three titles, Italy and France have won two titles, and the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia, the Netherlands, Denmark, Greece and Portugal have won one title each. To date, Spain is the only team to have won consecutive titles, doing so in 2008 and 2012.The most recent championship, held across Europe in 2021 (postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), was won by Italy, who lifted their second European title after beating England in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on penalties. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:00 UTC on Wednesday, 26 June 2024.For the full current version of the article, see UEFA European Championship on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Kajal.

pWotD Episode 2468: AFC Asian Cup Welcome to popular Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of a popular Wikipedia page every day. With 182,822 views on Saturday, 3 February 2024 our article of the day is AFC Asian Cup.The AFC Asian Cup is the primary association football competition contested by the senior men's national teams of the members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), determining the continental champion of Asia. It is the second oldest continental football championship in the world after Copa América. The winning team becomes the champion of Asia and until 2015 qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup. The Asian Cup was held once every four years from the 1956 AFC Asian Cup in Hong Kong until the 2004 tournament in China. However, since the Summer Olympic Games and the European Football Championship were also scheduled in the same year as the Asian Cup, the AFC decided to move their championship to a less crowded cycle. After 2004, the tournament was next held in 2007, when it was co-hosted by four countries in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Thereafter, it has again been held every four years. The Asian Cup has generally been dominated by a small number of top teams. Prominently successful teams include Japan (four times), Iran, Saudi Arabia (three times each) and South Korea (twice). The other teams which have achieved success are Qatar (2019 current champions), Australia (2015), Iraq (2007) and Kuwait (1980). Israel won in 1964 but was later expelled and has since joined UEFA.Australia joined the Asian confederation in 2007 and hosted the Asian Cup finals in 2015, winning the competition in the final against South Korea. The 2019 tournament was expanded from 16 teams to 24 teams, with the qualifying process doubling as part of the qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Qatar Airways, state-owned by Qatar, has sponsored the AFC Asian Cup since 2023 as part of Qatar's global soft power strategy. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:44 UTC on Sunday, 4 February 2024.For the full current version of the article, see AFC Asian Cup on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Salli Neural.

In this episode of the Smart Business Performance Podcast, Roger welcomes Derek Kinnear and discusses the 5 Procurement Tips to move the bottom-line needle. This episode will boost your Business procurement to a whole new level!   Derek is the former Managing Director of Bidvest Group Procurement since 2009.   He was the Chairman managing the procurement of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and the FIFA 2014 Brazilian Football World Cup.   Prior to that, he was the CEO of Group Procurement at FNB (First National Bank) and a Financial Services Charter Committee Member.     Tune in now and make sure to take away the notes with you!   5 Procurement Tips to move the needle are: Run Procurement as a profit centre. If savings is the mandate: then the initiatives must exceed CPI. Monitor KPI's, using clean data. Ensure you adopt collaborative programs and relationships with your Partners / Suppliers. Communicate regularly with your Target audience (internal and external stakeholders).     Conversation Highlights: [01:01] Derek thinks that the World Cup experience was interesting. He thought of using most of the procurement process as the base of the 2014 World Cup. He joined Bidvest in 2009 and prioritised providing a great experience to everyone.   [05:40] Derek thinks that the easiest onset to get the cohesion going was with difficulty. A lot of the emphasis throughout the process was driven from a financial perspective.   [09:36] He explains his approach towards procurements in that environment.   [12:33] He unfolds the 5 Procurement Tips to move the bottom-line needle and elucidates the first procurement tip with the help of some intriguing examples.   [22:35] He further emphasize the need to pursue initiatives significantly higher than the CPI rate while clarifying the basic principle of 80-20 (Pareto Principle).   [30:06] You need people at a lower level. The only way you will translate that kind of financial result is through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that drive the Executives as well as operational people.   [38:38] If you're chasing only one criterion, and that's the price, then you will be doing yourself an injustice and you are going to do the organisation a massive injustice.   [50:45] Derek explains that if you can put all the above tips together, it could be the best-kept secret in the world. What you must do is to communicate!       About Our Sponsor: KPI Management Solutions helps organisations to meet their Stretch Goals using KPIs, OKRs, AI-enabled Technology and Training. With 64 goals in 103 matches for Brazil since debuting at age 18, Neymar is the second-highest goalscorer for his national team, trailing only Pelé. He was a key player in Brazil's victories at the 2011 South American Youth Championship, where he finished as leading goalscorer, and the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, where he won the Golden Ball as player of the tournament The media have often drawn comparisons between Neymar and Brazilian legend Pelé, as Neymar possesses similar attributes and also like Pelé came from the Santos Youth Academy and turned heads with his skill. Neymar has said that Pelé is his "role model" but also saying: "I don't like to make a comparison with Pelé". They discuss and recap the three Major League Soccer games from Saturday. How did the International break effect the teams playing? How much should we take out of the wins for Chicago and Portland? We discuss that and more. Sean also touches on the 1-0 win by England over Venezuela in the FIFA U-20 World Cup Final. Finally, the three give their FIFA Confederations Cup 2017 Predictions. Who do they have lifting the trophy at the end? Listen to find out. After that, Sean and Erik discuss the 1-0 win by the U.S. Women’s National Team over Norway. Then, they end the show by discussing the 1-1 draw between the U.S. and Mexico at Azteca Stadium. Did Bruce Arena make the right moves to put the USMNT in the best situation to actually try and win? Is four points enough out of these two games? How concerned are Sean and Erik entering the last phase of World Cup Qualifying in September and October? They certainly answer these questions.

SI's Grant Wahl and Brian Straus interview U.S. forward Jozy Altidore at U.S. camp, and the Podcast crew dissects the matchup from all angles, including Klinsmann's future (which has been called into question by Landon Donovan), who should start for the USA and what reaching the Confederations Cup means for the current batch of U.S. players and the next generation of players who may be in their position in two years' time.
