Charlie Davies, Tony Meola and Brian McBride take a deep dive into the names being linked with the United States men's national team's head coaching vacancy. But first, we welcome in The Athletic's Felipe Cardenas who was on the ground to witness thousands of ticketless fans storm the Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday ahead of the Copa América final. Is Conmebol solely to blame for the security issues? And can we expect to see similar scenes at the 2026 World Cup? Then, the guys work their way through the potential candidates to become the next USMNT boss beginning with two Spaniards - Luis De La Fuente and Rafa Benitez. What qualities should Matt Crocker be looking for and do the likes of Wilfried Nancy, Xavi, Thomas Tuchel and Joachim Löw fit the bill? Is Max Allegri too pragmatic? Could Mauricio Pochettino, Gareth Southgate or Hervé Renard get the best out of the Stars and Stripes? And does Steve Cherundolo enough experience and buy-in from fans to lead the team? In the middle of the offseason, things should be slowing down, but for Bayern Munich and German national team fans, it was been, well, pretty darn wild. The Bavarians are in the middle of what figures to be a crazy transfer period, while Germany has already looked better in a tourney than it has at any point since that last run under Joachim Löw at EURO 2020 (played in 2021) or maybe the first 10 games under Hansi Flick: Now, though, it's a new day for both Bayern Munich and Germany: Chuck is back in the saddle! Find out what he has been up to and why he has been off the airwaves for a spell. Germany put itself in a good position to consider this tourney run a success. It is still early, but Chuck does not like the direction of Bayern Munich's New World Order in the front office. Are three center-backs really up for sale? Fans who wanted change are going to get exactly what they were asking for. Selling Kingsley Coman might not be easy. Joshua Kimmich seems likely to leave this summer (or maybe in 2025), while Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry could just get frozen out until they want to leave. Learn more about your ad choices.

Forza Italia!

Today we would like to get into a controversial subject: Machine Translation. We are all very familiar with the doom and gloom associated with the use of technology when it comes to language services. Many people who don't understand how language technology works mistakenly think that software, apps, or even robots will soon replace translators in the near future. Considering that, we came across an interesting article that highlights the positive aspects of this technology by arguing how neural machine translation, or NMT, isn't our enemy. We reached out to the author, Joachim Lépine, a French-to-English translator based in Quebec, and asked for his authorization to bring his article to Translation Confessional. If there was ever going to be a barometer to measure if Hansi Flick's Germany is indeed better than Joachim Löw's Germany, it would be this. Under their former manager, Germany had lost to North Macedonia (albeit a North Macedonia with Goran Pandev); that loss was Germany's first in roughly two decades in a World Cup qualifier. The opposition was the same today and as long as Romania was able to beat Armenia, what was at the stake for Germany was World Cup qualification for Qatar 2022. Hansi Flick made some notable changes. As Antonio Rüdiger was absent due to injury, he inserted Thilo Kehrer into the heart of the defense next to Niklas Süle, played David Raum in the left-back slot and replaced Jonas Hofmann with Lukas Klostermann for the right back slot. He also left out Leroy Sané in favor of Kai Havertz for this one. Be sure to stay tuned to Bavarian Podcast Works for all of your up to date coverage on Bayern Munich and Germany.
