This week show Maine and Miranda recap WNO 27 headlined by Nick Rodriguez vs Kaynan Duarte in a third match and co-main evented by Luke Griffith vs Victor Hugo.In the news section of the show, we discussed the potential rumor, retirement of Gordon, Ryan and John Danaher. We also discuss an upcoming potential coaching based off between Craig Jones and Gordon. In the recap section of the show, we break down the main event discussing the improvements that Nick Rodriguez has made to his game in five years since his first two matches with Kaynan Duarte. We discussed the early takedown from. Kaynan the improved back defense from Rodriguez. We then discussed the pacing and passing and mounting sequence from Nicky Rod that allowed him to take the match on decision. In a recap of the company that we discussed Luke Griffith versus Victor Hugo, we talked about some of the dynamics in the wrestling and takedowns, and how this match shared a lot of dynamics with the main event matchup with a seemingly come-from-behind victory for Luke after getting Hugo back and controlling for a large section of the match. In the Women's Featherweight Championship match we discussed a rematch between Helena Crevar vs Elisabeth Clay that saw Crevar on top and working to pass the guard, we also discussed the counter back, take off of a known offense from Clay in the way that she goes for the foot lock. We talked about some of the preparation that must have been taking place in Helena's camp that allowed her to eventually get the back of the leg lock transition and win with a rear naked choke to take the featherweight title.We break down the barn burner of a match between Andrew Tackett vs Fabyury Khrysthyan, we discussed the overwhelming pace and activity from Andrew and how his transitions and wrestling look as good as ever. Then we discussed the transition into the heel hook that won him the match submission In Xande Ribeiro vs Richie Martinez we talk about the early heel hook attempt from Boogie and then the later judges faxor that Xande appeared to have taken offense at leading to a phenomenal double under pass into a signature kimura.In Owen Jones vs Julian Espinosa we discuss the movement and transitions of Jones that he was able to use to get back and finish the rear naked choke.We also briefly discuss the undercard matches of Chris Wojcik vs Michael Esquivel ending in an ankle lock for Wojick, Alan Magendzo vs Colin Carr with Alan taking a late replacement decision. In Ben Eddy vs Josh Wyland we discussed the great north south passing from Josh and the triangle choke counter that Ben was able to use to win the match. We also discussed Taylor Hishaw vs Trinity Pun that saw Taylor take a win by decision. In the recap of Fight to Win 279 Newark we discussed the Main Event of Junny Ocasio vs. Eric Naples we discussed some of Junny passing and back taking then the Rear Triangle Armbar finish that Junny used to retain his 135 pound title. In the preview section of the show we discussed BJJ Stars 15 with Meyram Maquine vs Diogo Reis, Erich Munis vs Adam Wardzinski, Gabi Pessanha vs Tayane Porfirio, and Leo Ferreira vs Hygor Brito. This week on the show, Maine and Josh preview the WNO 27 card mainly focusing on the Co-main event down, but touching on the main event that was previewed in full on last week's show. We kick off the show in the news section discussing the CJI 2 announced teams and names. In the preview section we discuss Kaynan Duarte vs Nick Rodriguez 3Then in the main part of the show go on discuss a matchup between two men who have beaten both of the main event fighters. Luke Griffith vs Victor Hugo we talk about some of their recent matches and performances, as well as some of the dynamics and the match and how the guard may play into this match as well as how each Camp will have prepared for the matchup.In our discussion of Women's Featherweight Championship between Elisabeth Clay vs Helena Crevar we talk about the recent performances as well as the kneebar game of Clay we talk about their first matchup at West Coast trials in 2021 and the similarities and differences between both of the games. In Andrew Tackett vs Fabyury Khrysthyan we share our love of the action packed pace that Andrew Tackett pushes against all of his opponents and reflect on some of our favorite moments from his recent matches, hoping that we will see more of the same in this matchup. In Owen Jones vs Julian Espinosa we discussed Owen's ability to go into the legs and also threaten the upper body during the transitions, as well as some of the recent performances from Julian.In Xande Ribeiro vs Richie Martinez we talked about how much of a legend Xande is and run through his world championship accolades in both the Gi and NoGi at ADCC and IBJJF. Today's podcast episode is a re-purposing of a webinar we recorded on November 12, 2024. Our special guests for that webinar were Colin Carr, Vice-President of Congressional affairs at the Consumer Bankers Association and Ian Katz, Managing Director at Capital Alpha Partners. John Culhane, a partner in the Consumer Financial Services Group at our firm. The webinar begins with Colin giving us an overview of President-Elect Trump's victory and the Senate and House elections which resulted in the Republicans achieving close majorities in both chambers. As a result, the Republicans may not have too much difficulty in confirming Trump nominees for various positions and may also be able to override final rules published in the Federal Register by the CFPB and other agencies after August 1 of this year under the Congressional Review Act. (This includes the so-called “open banking” rule pertaining to consumer control of their records at banks under Section 133 of Dodd-Frank. Ian then addresses certain leadership changes at the CFPB, FDIC, OCC, FRB and FTC and the possibility of Trump using recess appointments to nominate the leaders of those agencies. John Culhane then takes a deep dive into the current status and expected outcome of agency regulations (both legislative and interpretive), proposed regulations and other written but less formal guidance and circulars. This includes the CFPB's $8. credit card late fee rule, the small business data collection rule under Section 1071 of Dodd-Frank, the Buy-Now, Pay-Later interpretive rule, “open banking “ rule, and the changes to the UDAAP Exam Manual which described any form of discrimination as being an unfair trade practice, all of which are the subject of pending litigation. We also discuss the FTC's “CARS” rule and the “Click to Cancel” rule, which are also subject to pending litigation. Finally, we discussed the FDIC's “brokered deposits” rule. We explain how final legislative rules can only be overturned or modified through Congressional Review Act override (if they were adopted after August 1, 2024) or by proposing a repeal or modification under the Administrative Procedure Act (which is the same lengthy procedure utilized to promulgate the regulation) or by a final judgment of a court invalidating the rule. We also discuss whether the new CFPB Director may concede that the CFPB has been unlawfully funded under Dodd-Frank since the FRB may only fund the CFPB out of “combined earnings of the Federal Reserve Banks” and because there have been no such combined earnings since September, 2022. Buying or leasing office space can be tricky territory to navigate when you're already managing your practice on a day to day basis! It can be hard to determine whether you should lease or buy, how much space you will need depending on your practice size, and if you have intentions of growing your practice over the next 10+ years. If not, it probably isn't a good time to commit to this large of a purchase. You can quickly outgrow a space, and don't want to be stuck stagnant.On the flip side, you don't want to over estimate the size of space you will need and end up significantly overpaying for space that isn't utilized. Commercial real estate is more specialized and a lot harder to get in and out of!When a practice owner anticipates growth in the next few years, how do you advice them to go about leasing a space?Steer clear of a long lease! While it is true that there are more favorable terms that go along with longer leases, you will eliminate the need to continue to negotiate your rate, and allow your business to move out of the space as it grows.If a practice owner is interested in buying an office space, what should they keep in mind?First, you want to determine if you are buying the space just for you and your business, or if you are buying a space that has multiple offices and can be used as an investment property.If you choose the latter, it's important that you look at your finances to ensure you can afford the space in the worst case scenario of not having any tenants to rent out the additional offices.
