Andy and Brendan start this Monday episode riding high from big college football wins over the weekend despite a lack of NFL success on Sunday afternoon. The two begin by unpacking the SGS Leaderboard of the Year at the BMW PGA Championship overseas, with a Billy Horschel-Rory McIlroy playoff to finish off what was another great tournament on the DP World Tour. They discuss the playoff itself, Billy's winning weekend, Rory's play coming down the stretch, and whether "The Great" Manassero has what it takes to get it done on the Euro Tour. The episode then takes a slight turn towards this week's Presidents Cup, as Billy Horschel has now won yet another tournament following the selection of a U.S. team. Next, Andy and Brendan hit on Lydia Ko and the LPGA Queen City Championship, keeping her incredible season going with another win. The premier Champions Tour gambling podcast then tries to justify a poor week of picks for the PURE Insurance Championship, as Brendan put the cooler on Richard Green's hot streak, Andy didn't put in the necessary research for a win, and Producer PJ couldn't find anywhere to bet on Steven Alker in Las Vegas. After some U.S. Mid-Am talk about 2016 SEC Baseball Player of the Year Boomer White and the debut of the "Presidents Cup Fact of the Day," Andy and Brendan celebrate a true underdog story, the Ironheads finally reaching a podium after multiple upsets at the LIV Team Championship in Dallas.

NFL – National Football League – Week 9 Last Night Detroit Lions 15, Green Bay Packers 9 Miami Dolphins 35, Chicago Bears 32 New England Patriots 26, Indianapolis Colts 3 Lions 15, Packers 9 – Rodgers throws 3 INTs, Lions hold on to beat Packers 15-9 Aaron Rodgers matched a career high with three interceptions and threw an incomplete pass on fourth down from the Detroit 17 in the final minute, letting the Detroit Lions hold on for a 15-9 win over the Packers in a matchup of slumping teams on Sunday. The Lions ended a five-game losing streak. The Packers have lost five straight for the first time since 2008 when their four-time NFL MVP was a first-year starter with the franchise. Dolphins 35, Bears 32 – Tua, Dolphins outlast Bears on Fields’ record rushing day Tua Tagovailoa threw for three touchdowns, Tyreek Hill had 143 yards receiving and the Miami Dolphins overcame a record-setting rushing effort by Justin Fields to beat the Chicago Bears 35-32. In a game where neither team did much to stop the other, the Dolphins had no trouble moving the ball against a gutted defense and made enough plays to come away with their third straight win. Fields ran for 178 yards, the most by an NFL quarterback in a regular-season game. He had a 61-yard touchdown run and threw for three scores. But it wasn’t enough for the Bears, who lost for the fifth time in six games. Patriots 26, Colts 3 – Pats get 9 sacks in dominant 26-3 victory over Colts Mac Jones had a touchdown pass, Nick Folk added four field goals and the Patriots finished with nine sacks to help New England beat the Indianapolis Colts 26-3. The win moves the Patriots (5-4) above .500 for the first time this season as they head into their bye week. Linebackers Matt Judon and Josh Uche each had three sacks, leading a defense that held Indianapolis to 121 yards and 0-for-14 on third down. Jones was 20 of 30 for 147 yards. The Colts have lost three straight and have yet to earn a win since benching QB Matt Ryan in favor of second-year player Sam Ehlinger. There are some deep thoughts on Bullet, and bullet, before Andy and Brendan get to the CJ Plaque winner Rory McIlroy. They discuss Rory's return to the top spot in the OWGR (but not the FEC) and the meaning that takes on 10 years after he first did it. They discuss both Rory and Lydia Ko getting emotional after their wins and after a decade of doing just about everything on their respective tours. There's also a chat on yet another Japanese No. 1 amateur and his win in a strong pro event this weekend. News closes with Majed Al Sorour releasing a statement on his New Yorker comments that LIV would create its own majors.

This week I am joined by New Zealand Professional Golfer Steve AlkerFor those who don't know Steve's story, here is a quick over viewHe turned pro in 1995 after a very impressive amateur career and up until 2020 had won 11 events around the world, from the pacific islands to the Web.com tour or what it now known as the Korn Ferry tour. While he has played on the PGA Tour he didn't have a standout career, but since turning 50 and joining the champions tour his life has changed. On Monday the 16th of August 2021 he qualified for a PGA Tour Champions event by Monday qualifying, which in itself is impressive enough and not only made the cut that week but he finished inside the top 10, ensuring he would get a start the following week, he then did that for the next 6 weeks in a row!Fast forward just over a year and he has played 29 events· Made 29 cuts· 4 Wins· 23 Top 10s And in 2022 sits a top the order of meritAnyone you talk to who knows Steve says how much of a great man he is and I think that comes through in this podcast. He is everything you want in a champion, humble, hard working and constantly seeking improvement and he obviously has a great family around him
NFL – National Football League – Week 3 Yesterday Minnesota Vikings 28, Detroit Lions 24 Chicago Bears 23, Houston Texas 20 Indianapolis Colts 20, Kansas City Chiefs 17 Vikings 28, Lions 24 – Vikings rally past Lions 28-24 on Osborn’s last-minute TD Kirk Cousins connected with a wide-open K.J. Osborn for the go-ahead, 28-yard touchdown with 45 seconds remaining, and the Minnesota Vikings rallied to beat the Detroit Lions 28-24. Osborn blew by former Vikings cornerback Mike Hughes on a corner route to snag the in-stride pass and cruise across the goal line to give Minnesota the lead for the first time. The Vikings then didn’t let Jared Goff and the Lions cross midfield. Dalvin Cook rushed for 96 yards and a score before leaving with a shoulder injury for the Vikings, who fell behind 14-0 and 24-14. Bears 23, Texans 20 – Smith INT sets up game-ending FG as Bears beat Texans 23-20 Roquan Smith set up Cairo Santos’ game-ending field goal when he intercepted Davis Mills deep in Houston territory, and the Chicago Bears beat former coach Lovie Smith and the Texans 23-20. Khalil Herbert ran for a career-high 157 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans had third-and-1 at their 26 when defensive tackle Angelo Blackson tipped a pass intended for Rex Burkhead. Smith, who missed practice all week because of a hip injury, intercepted it at the 30 and returned it to the 12. Chicago had Herbert run, then downed the ball twice before Santos nailed a 30-yarder as time expired. Colts 20, Chiefs 17 – Ryan drives Colts to 1st win with 20-17 comeback vs Chiefs Matt Ryan threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to rookie Jelani Woods with 24 seconds left to give the Indianapolis Colts a 20-17 comeback victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Ryan earned his first win with the Colts in their home opener by throwing for two scores, both to Woods. Indy sealed it with a late interception — Patrick Mahomes’ first of the season as the Chiefs fell to 2-1. Mahomes lost for only the third time in September despite leading almost the entire second half. Ryan won it with a brilliant 16-play, 76-yard drive that was aided by a personal foul call on Chris Jones following a third-down sack. Jonathan Schoop hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth and Chicago’s sixth straight loss clinched the division for Cleveland. The Guardians held a big lead in the ninth inning of their game at Texas when the clinching became official. The White Sox, who won the AL Central last season in their first year under manager Tony La Russa, slipped to 76-77. La Russa hasn’t run the team since last August because of a medical issue, and Miguel Cairo has been the acting manager. Cubs 8, Pirates 3 – Wisdom hits 25th homer, Cubs pull away from Pirates 8-3 Patrick Wisdom hit a three-run homer and Adrian Sampson tossed six efficient innings as the Chicago Cubs beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-3. Wisdom took the first pitch he saw from Pittsburgh reliever Manny Bañuelos and sent it into the Pirates bullpen well behind the center-field wall with two outs in the fifth for his 25th home run of the season. Wisdom is the fourth third baseman in Cubs history to reach the 25 home run-plateau at least twice. Sampson allowed one run to improve to 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA this month. Bryan Reynolds homered for Pittsburgh, which has lost 9 of 10. Florida State is back in the rankings for the first time in four years. Georgia remained No. 1 and received 55 of 63 first-place votes in the Top 25. No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan and No. 5 Clemson all held their places. Oklahoma’s upset loss to Kansas State created room for teams to move up, like No. 6 Southern California and No. 7 Kentucky. Tennessee moved up three to No. 8. Oklahoma State remained at nine and North Carolina State jumped to No. 10. NCAAFB – MSU maybe having second thoughts about Tucker’s deal Michigan State blew up the market for college football coaches last season by giving Mel Tucker a massive 10-year contract as the Spartans charged out to a 9-1 start in his second campaign. It was a bit puzzling at the time. After the Spartans were run over for the second straight week to fall to 4-3 in their last seven games, the 10-year megadeal is looking even more questionable. The coach-as-savior mentality is rampant in college football and it is causing desperate schools to make costly decisions, fraught with risk. Golf – Spieth goes 5-0 as Americans rule Presidents Cup again The Presidents Cup stays with the Americans, just like it always does. The Americans finished off a five-point victory. Jordan Spieth capped off a perfect week at Quail Hollow by going 5-0. His match helped set the tone for the Americans. The International team already was depleted by players who defected to Saudi-funded LIV Golf and were not eligible. It still showed plenty of fight. It just doesn’t have a cup to show for it. The Americans won for the ninth straight time, and their only loss was in 1998 since the matches began in 1994. Golf – Champions – Flesch wins PGA Tour Champions event at Pebble Beach Steve Flesch birdied the 18th hole at Pebble Beach to win the Pure Insurance Championship for his second PGA Tour Champions victory of the season. Flesch birdied the first four holes and five on the front nine in a strong start, then stalled on the back. But he got the only birdie he needed on the par-5 finishing hole for a one-stroke victory over Ernie Els, Steven Alker and Paul Stankowski. Flesch closed with a 4-under 68 for a three-round total of 11-under 205 and earned $330,000. The 55-year-old won the Mitsubishi Electric Classic in May. NASCAR – Reddick wins NASCAR playoff race in long, tiring Texas day Tyler Reddick opened the round of 12 in NASCAR’s playoff with a victory at Texas. His win comes a week after being one of the first four Cup drivers knocked out of title contention. No contender won any of the first three races of the playoffs, a first in any round in this postseason format. The trend continued with the eliminated Reddick leading 53 of the final 54 laps on a long race day that went into the night. There were a track-record 17 cautions, a record 36 lead changes, a 56-minute red flag for lightning and multiple tire issues leading to crashes. NASCAR – Tumultuous, tiring start to NASCAR’s round of 12 at Texas The 334 laps at Texas Motor Speedway provided quite a tumultuous start to the NASCAR playoff round of 12. There were a lot of tire issues that contributed to a track-record 16 cautions. There was also a 56-minute red flag for lightning, and a record 36 lead changes among 19 drivers. Chase Elliott entered as the points leader, and was ahead in the race around the midway part when he had hard contact and a fiery finish. Playoff contender Christopher Bell also got knocked out after a tire issue. And there were some bumping between William Byron and Denny Hamlin. LPGA Legend Jane Blalock, Top Instructor Tom Patri, the Host of Grilling at the Green Jeff Tracy, & Golf Channel Host Damon Hack Join Me... Jane Blalock updates us on the upcoming tournaments on the Legends of the LPGA Tour and Annika Sorenstam's impact of playing last year in the US Women's Senior Open. We also look back to what it was like playing on the LPGA Tour during the 1970s and '80s, her desire to start a Women's Masters Tournament, and the PGA Women's Clinics that she's a part of to help grow the game. Tom Patri shares his thoughts on Mito Pereira's collapse on the 72nd hole at the PGA Championship and on whether any shine comes off Justin Thomas' win because of how it transpired. We also hear his thoughts on whether Tiger should continue to play this year, the meteoric rise of Steven Alker on the Champions Tour, and not only is the equipment and golf ball better than it was in the 70s and 80s but also how much better course conditions are now. Jeff Tracy shares the story of how he got his start in broadcasting 30 years ago hosting The Horseman's World. He shares how golf and food started to get intertwined with his shows. He talks about working with The Galloping Gourmet, Graham Kerr, having a role in the Kevin Costner film The Postman, and whether he gets more satisfaction out of playing a great round of golf or barbequing the perfect rack of ribs. Damon Hack shares his thoughts on whether Jack Nicklaus' reputation is under any threat after being sued by the Nicklaus Companies. We hear which milkshake is his favorite that's being served this week at The Memorial Tournament and who he likes to win the event. I also get his thoughts on Mito Pereria and Tiger Woods, plus when or if we'll see Phil Mickelson playing this season.
It's that time of year again! Major season is in full swing on both the men's and women's tours as it's the LPGA's turn to crown another major champion this week at Pine Needles. Amy Rogers joins us from the golf course to update us on swing changes from world No. 1 Jin Young Ko, and the return of Nelly Korda. On the PGA Tour, Todd Lewis joins us from Muirfield Village where Jack Nicklaus addressed the media today about rival golf tours. Winners only on our guest list today too, Dutch Open champ Victor Perez and Senior PGA winner Steven Alker stop by to discuss their successes over the past weekend.
