Hello EICornettos! It's been a hefty week in the world of pop culture, so grab a lolly and let's get into it.Oenone is away at a wedding... very unusual timing because Mr and Mrs Dua Lipa legally tied the knot last week. But the internet had some choice words about the singer's white suit. EIC Fashion Police LTD. are wading through the mess to share our searing hot takes for you.Ruchira did some on the ground reporting from SXSW, which hit headlines this week after speakers Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur were barred from entering the UK by the Home Office, who said their "presence would not be conducive to the public good". We dive into the difficult debate around free speech, authoritarianism and our fears of rising antisemitism. And finally Euphoria 3: Over For Good. Sam Levinson has done what he did, meaning EIC had to do what it does best. We gave our honest reviews and (of course) didn't hold back. Thank you for listening to us this week
Do animals fall in love at first sight?Every species has different traits that are 'attractive' — they're showing off their DIY skills making a bower, vibrating sexy fruit fly songs, puffing up a wattle, or just having really massive moose… antlers. Is this innate attraction like falling in love or is it more like meeting a (really hot) investment advisor?Because these attractive traits are also messages about genes — who will make a good investment to partner with for the next generation.Of course, one species beauty is another's turn off, and some species have a very low bar (looking at you guppies), so Hot or Not could end up being a very individual thing.Sex is Weird is a series of What the Duck?! with Dr Ann Jones following the sexual evolution of the animal kingdom. Please note that this program contains adult themes and explicit language. Fresh Veggies, Friendly Faces, and Why You Don't Want “Pantry Pirates” By Fred Talley, Faith Pest Control Howdy, neighbors! Fred Talley here from Faith Pest Control. You know, there's nothing quite like a Saturday morning in Georgia. If you're looking to get out and enjoy the best of what our local area has to offer, you've got to head over to the Monticello Market on the Square. It's just a short drive over to the heart of Jasper County, and let me tell you, it's the perfect way to kick off a summer weekend. Supporting Local at the Historic Monticello Square Starting May 9th and running every Saturday through August 29th, 2026 (except for the 4th of July), the Square comes alive from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. If you appreciate hard work and homegrown quality—the same way I do in my business—you're going to love this market. Here's what you'll find: The Freshest Produce: We're talking vine-ripened tomatoes, sweet corn, cucumbers, and watermelons that taste like actual sunshine. Handmade Treasures: Local artisans bring out everything from handcrafted jewelry to woodworking. It's the perfect place to find a gift that didn’t come off a big-box store shelf. Homemade Goodies: You haven't lived until you've tried some of the local jams, jellies, and old-fashioned pies. Community Spirit: It's a place where neighbors actually talk to each other. You might even see me there grabbing a basket of peaches! Don’t Let the “Bugs” Follow Your Groceries Home Now, I love a good farmers’ market as much as anyone, but here's a tip from your local bug man: all that fresh produce and sweet fruit can be a magnet for some “uninvited guests.” When the humidity kicks up in June and July, Fruit Flies, Ants, and Pantry Beetles are on the lookout for a free meal. Nothing ruins a beautiful kitchen display of fresh peaches like a swarm of tiny flies or a line of ants deciding they live there now. Listen… I want to be YOUR BUG MAN! Whether it's those pesky kitchen invaders or the bigger threats like Termites and Spiders hiding in the corners of your home, I've got you covered. I use common-sense, pet-friendly methods because I know your home is your sanctuary (and your dogs shouldn’t have to worry about the bug man!). My “Make You Happy” Personal Guarantee I don't just talk a big game; I back it up. If you're tired of seeing things crawl where they shouldn’t, here is my promise: If you hire me to get rid of your pest problem and, at the end of 30 days, you are not 100% HAPPY, I will come back and retreat your home for FREE. If you're still not happy, I'll give you back every penny of your money, plus an additional $25.00 for your time and trouble. Period. So, go enjoy the sunshine on the Monticello Square, fill your bags with goodness, and support our local farmers. But if you get home and realize the bugs are trying to share your snacks, you give me a ring. Give us a call at 770-823-9202. Let’s keep those pests out and the tails waggin’! Happy snacking, neighbors, Fred Talley, Owner/Operator Faith Pest Control, Jasper, GA 770-823-9202 PS. Bring me a tomato and I might tell you an extra joke—but even if you don’t, tell me you saw this notice for $25.00 OFF your first service! The post Fresh Veggies, Friendly Faces, and Why You Don't Want “Pantry Pirates first appeared on Faith Pest Control.

AI is devouring the planet's electricity ... already using up to 2% of global energy and projected to hit 5% by 2030. But a Spanish-Canadian company, Multiverse Computing, says it can slash that energy footprint by up to 95% without sacrificing performance. They specialize in tiny AI: one model has the processing power of just 2 fruit fly brains. Another tiny model lives on a Raspberry Pi.The opportunities for edge AI are huge. But the opportunities in the cloud are also massive. In this episode of TechFirst, host John Koetsier talks with Samuel Mugel, Multiverse's CEO, about how quantum-inspired algorithms can drastically compress large language models while keeping them smart, useful, and fast. Mugel explains how their approach -- intelligently pruning and reorganizing model weights -- lets them fit functioning AIs into hardware as tiny as a Raspberry Pi or the equivalent of a fly's brain. They explore how small language models could power Edge AI, smart appliances, and robots that work offline and in real time, while also making AI more sustainable, accessible, and affordable. Mugel also discusses how ideas from quantum tensor networks help identify only the most relevant parts of a model, and how the company uses an “intelligently destructive” approach that saves massive compute and power.00:00 – AI's energy crisis01:00 – A model in a fly's brain02:00 – Why tiny AIs work03:00 – Edge AI everywhere05:00 – Agent compute overload06:00 – 200× too much compute07:00 – The GPU crunch08:00 – Smart matter vision09:00 – AI on a Raspberry Pi10:00 – How compression works11:00 – Intelligent destruction13:00 – General vs. narrow AIs15:00 – Quantum inspiration17:00 – Quantum + AI future18:00 – AI's carbon footprint19:00 – Cost of using AI20:00 – Cloud to edge shift21:00 – Robots need fast AI22:00 – Wrapping up

According to our unscientific office poll, the annual changing of the clocks has all the popularity of a root canal. With few exceptions, people described the shift to and from Daylight Saving Time as disorienting, arbitrary, and unwelcome. On a more existential level, winding the clocks back and forth reminds us that no matter how concrete minutes and hours may feel, the way we perceive time is fluid. Time flies when you're having fun. A watched pot never boils. So to celebrate (or perhaps protest) another year setting back the clocks, the Outside/In team has uncovered four mini-stories that will poke at, stretch, or even obliterate your perception of time. From “time expansion experiences”, to time-space synaesthesia, to the slow-motion life of a fly, prepare for a totally different type of time warp.Featuring Steve Taylor, Rhitu Chatterjee, Kevin Healy, Katherine Akey, and Patricia Lynne Duffy. This episode was produced by Felix Poon, Marina Henke, and Justine Paradis. Fruit fly brains are smaller than a poppy seed, but that doesn't mean they aren't complex. For the first time, researchers have published a complete diagram of 50 million connections in an adult fruit flies brain. The journal Nature simultaneously published nine papers related to this new brain map. Until now, only a roundworm and a fruit fly larva had been mapped in this way.Read more of science correspondent Jon Hamilton's reporting here. Want to know more about the future of brain science?
