Springfield Theatre Centre's production Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida runs 2/7/25 - 2/9/24 and 2/14/25 - 2/16/25. Aida is a musical based on the opera of the same name written by Antonio Ghislanzoni with music by Giuseppe Verdi. The musical tells the story of the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. Aida is forced to choose between love and the responsibility that she faces as the leader of her people. Kinsey Poetter and Justin Johnson portray Amneris and Zoser. They spoke to Community Voices about their experiences with local theater and about the story Aida will tell. Find tickets and details here.

Today on part two of our interview with Radames Pera, we continue our conversation with the former actor known best as Grasshopper from the TV-series Kung-Fu. Believe us when we say, we wish we had another hour or two with Radames to get to all the stories that make up his own story, that of his mother's story and that of his absentee father whose invention became a worldwide success that he unfortunately didn't patent it. On this episode, we discuss the Coogan law, a law that if you don't know about you will get a crash course in this episode. Radames, like all child actors was protected under this law that was enacted in 1939 but was never totally enforced. We also learn through a YouTube video Radames posted about his mother actress Lisa Para whose addiction disorder became so acute, it had to be documented. Why? We discuss that on the episode and really we don't even scratch the surface due to time constraints. All we can tell you is, Radames has a healthy and wonderfully openness to plainly discuss some of the most personal stories from his life. And for that, we thank him. Take a listen to part two of our interview with Radames Pera on the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

Today on the first part of a two part episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are speaking to Radames Pera whose name you might know as well as that of his mother actor Lisa Pera. Because this episode is so jam packed – and we honestly didn't even get to half of the stuff we wanted to talk about- so we split this episode into two parts. On this episode, we discuss Radames' being a child actor in not one but two of the 70s most beloved television series. He is best known as young Caine or Grasshopper, if you like, in the series Kung Fu, a show that not only launched the martial arts craze but also a film that launched a global phenomenon that still resonates to this day. Radames also starred in Little House on the Prairie in a recurring role as John Jr. Lisa Pera on the other hand, got her start in film and television as well, beginning in 1965 on the show Combat! in an episode directed by Vic Morrow. From there, she starred in films like The Hindenburg as well as shows like Perry Mason, Get Smart Man from Atlantis and even Hawaii 5-0 where she starred with Radames as his mother. Novel casting, that. Radames pulls no punches (no pun intended) on this episode as we explore his life being raised by a mother too young and emotionally unequipped to deal with raising a child after a horrific childhood of her own. Being a Ukrainian -Russian finding herself in Nazi Germany and eventually the United States after WWII is jaw dropping stuff that doesn't seem real. Suffices to say, this Part one is a ‘buckle up, it's going to be a bumpy ride' episode. But it's frankly just a palette cleanser for episode #2, coming next week. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

We are back!!! Season Two, bitches! Here we go! We are starting season two with someone I have been a fan of since I was in 5th grade! The iconic Adam Pascal! We all know Adam for his Tony nominated performance as Roger in the original cast of RENT, and the fact that he reprised that roll in the blockbuster movie adaptation, but did you know that Adam Pascal made a guest appearance on the cult webseries "Submissions Only" singing a song called "We Should F*** Other People". We loved Adam in the movie School of Rock, and of course we know him for originating the roll of Radames in the Broadway smash AIDA, but did you know that Aida didn't even get a nomination for Best Musical??? Did you know that Adam Pascal could eat a bagel with tuna every day of his life and be totally happy doing so??? I bet you didn't know that he never even intended to become a musical theatre performer before landing the roll of Roger in Rent, or that he has a very special upcoming streamed concert event called ADAM PASCAL SO FAR... start August 17th, 2021! Well we discuss all of this and a whole lot more on this episode of Now We're Talking! Make sure to follow Adam on his socials @adampascal for more details, and as always follow me and this podcast on twitter and instagram @drewgasparini or @NWT_Pod. TV CONFIDENTIAL: A radio talk show about television

TVC 535.5: Part 2 of a conversation that began a few weeks ago with Radames Pera, the actor best known for playing young Kwai Chang Caine, aka “Grasshopper,” in the flashback sequences of the original Kung Fu (ABC, 1972-1975), and John Edwards, Mary Ingalls’ love interest, on Little House on the Prairie. After a successful career as a child actor, Radames left acting in the late 1980s and reinvented himself as an entrepreneur, drawing on his love for design and his interest in electronics and sound to launch Get It Wired, a company that specialized in installing home theatre systems. Topics this segment include how Radames successfully transferred his business several times after moving from L.A. to different cities (despite the fact that home theatre installation is a traditionally regionally-based service), as well as the pros and cons of working as a sole proprietor. Adam Pascal is an actor, singer, and musician most widely known for originating the role of Roger in the original 1996 cast of Jonathan Larson's musical Rent on Broadway. Rent was not only his Broadway debut, it also earned him a Tony Award nomination, a Theater World award, and an Obie Award. He went on to originate the role of Radames in Aida, as well as play the Emcee in the 1998 revival of Cabaret, Huey Calhoun in Memphis, Billy Flynn in the revival of Chicago, Chad in Disaster!, and William Shakespeare in Something Rotten! Adam reprised his role as Roger in the 2005 movie version of Rent, as well as the Broadway tour in 2009. He also performed in the London concert version of Chess at the Royal Albert Hall in London, alongside his Rent co-star and friend, Idina Menzel. Adam has two solo rock albums to his name, Model Prisoner (2000) and Civilian (2004), as well as a collaborative rock album called Blinding Light (2008) with pianist Larry Edoff. Most recently Adam has been seen onstage in limited engagements of Pretty Woman. And soon he can be seen virtually as part of the Times Square Alliance Broadway Busker’s Concert series. During our conversation, Adam shares how growing up and becoming a responsible adult was a challenge after having had his first audition experience lead to such success so early on. Amid this initial success, Adam recalls still being one hundred percent focused on playing in a rock band one day. When he started getting offers to audition for starring roles in Hollywood, what he really wanted was a record deal. This disconnect led to him making some “bad decisions” based on his ego, which he then spent years working on scaling back. Rent began the long journey of accepting the harsh realities of the career in which he found himself, but it also gave him a sense of safety. It gave him the overwhelming feeling of comfort whenever he walked out on stage. The feeling of being home in a way that playing in a rock band had never given him. He finally felt like he was where he belonged. And 25 years later, he’s still going strong.  In this episode, we talk about:  Which movie musicals had an influence on him as a child How his friendship with Idina Menzel led to his audition for Rent  The struggles that came with early success and recognition  How he helped open the door for different types of voices on Broadway  Why he prefers playing pre-existing roles to originating a character  His desire for a record deal, and finally getting one  What he would want to talk to Jonathan Larson about today Connect with Adam: Listen on Spotify IG: @adampascal Twitter: @adampascal20 Connect with The Theatre Podcast: Support us on Patreon: Patreon.com/TheTheatrePodcast Twitter & Instagram: @theatre_podcast Facebook.com/OfficialTheatrePodcast TheTheatrePodcast.com Alan's personal Instagram: @alanseales Email me at feedback@thetheatrepodcast.com. When a love story is set against the background of war, there&`&s always massive dramatic conflict to be expected. Verdi&`&s music bestowed it some more power and without doubt, guaranteed its brilliance.Director Francesco Micheli explains why Aida is a good choice to celebrate Italian operas."Aida is the opera, the biggest opera. It tells that in all space and all times, the best solution against war is love. It&`&s the best media for opera beginners, because opera is huge, with musicians, dancers, signers, actors, set, costumes, etc. And all the elements in Aida are huge. The stage of NCPA will be transformed into a huge desert. So sure if you watch Aida, if you listen to Aida, it will be like a little monster arriving against you but with big pleasure. The melody is also marvelous. For example, when the Egyptian people arrive after the war, triumphing, the music is vocalizing. It&`&s magic music."The tune that the director was vocalizing was the Grand March, played by a powerful orchestra in the second act, when general Radames leads the Egyptian soldiers upon their return following their victory over the Ethiopians. Joyful warriors hold a parade on Triumph Square. It has become one of the most often played triumphant marches ever around the world.Aida has been put on stage in China both in theaters and in outdoor stadiums several times. Among the highlights this time will be He Hui starring as the title role. The 42-year-old soprano is one of the few Chinese to be top billed on the world stage, hailed by European critics to be "the best Aida we have for our time".New York Times once commented: He Hui has a plush, vibrant voice with steely power when called for. Her singing combined musical refinement with impetuous temperament&`&.He Hui elaborates her connection with the character."As we all know, Aida is a princess, disguised as a slave, actually a hostage living in her enemy country. My own nature resembles that of Aida&`&s very much, singing operas in foreign countries during the past decade. Many sopranos find the aria &`&O patria Mia&`& very demanding. But I enjoy it because when I sing it I was really thinking of China. Now I&`&m back in China and very proud to stand on my own land interpreting the role. It&`&s a meaningful event."Conductor Zubin Mehta handpicked He Hui to join the cast. The maestro will hold the baton for NCPA&`&s production of Aida himself. He Hui explains."As early as in 2001, after we collaborated on Aida during Florence May Festival&`&s opening performance of Aida, Maestro Mehta mentioned to me this future production at NCPA. I have been looking forward to this collaboration ever since."Aida will meet Beijing audiences from January 24th until February 1st. Tenor Jorge De Len will be cast as Aida&`&s lover Radames, with mezzo-soprano Marina Prudenskaya as Aida&`&s bitter rival, Amneris. In another cast, Italian soprano Susanna Branchini, one of the three most famous tenors in China Dai Yuqiang and mezzo-soprano Yang Guang will play Aida, Radames and Amneris respectively. Oscar award winning costume-designing team will also join the crew. A standing ovation is to be expected.
