When you think about sales how does it make you feel? For most people they feel icky and greasy. Sales doesn't have to be that way. You can implement a sales strategy into your fundraising approach so that you have a constant stream of people coming into your network for you to build stronger relationships with. What you'll learn: → why having a sales strategy doesn't mean you have to be salesy. → why a sales mindset works for nonprofits. → ways to motivate your team to keep pushing forward. → ways to keep things simple. → when it's time to expand. Want to skip ahead? Here are key takeaways: [5:40] To have an effective sales strategy doesn't mean throwing everything in people's faces. Think about servers at a restaurant. Great servers know the menu, what recommendations to make, ask you if you want desert. You don't feel like you're being sold to but you are.  Plus, that restaurant is paying attention to ticket totals and tips to help determine who gets the best sections. [10:53] It starts with building relationships and making connection. If you just keep coming back to people to ask for money and not learning about what their motivations are and who they are then you'll eventually run that well dry. [15:17] Create a better breakdown of your fundraising goal to know who to target. If you're looking for a certain amount of donors at a certain average gift then you can track where you're at and which audience you should be targeting.   [23:02] Keep reviewing goals and ensure the team is motivated. Figure out how members of your team like to be appreciated. Ensure that the goals that you're setting have a why attached so people feel excited to help get there. Don't forget to celebrate. [26:13] Encourage listening and providing value to your audience. Avoid going in to a meeting expecting to close. Go in ready to get to know someone and excited to learn. Come into the converation ready to provide value and knowing some things about the person you're talking with. Harry Spaight is the Founder of Selling With Dignity, which offers training, coaching, and mastermind groups to accelerate sales. He is also the author of the book Selling With Dignity, which provides practical tips and insights to improve sales performance and drive revenue growth. As a former missionary, Harry learned that selling begins by serving customers.  In this episode: Sales has a negative connotation, with popular movies like The Wolf of Wall Street depicting salespeople exploiting individuals for monetary gain. However, you can revise this process using a service-based approach. What are the basics of a compassionate sales system? Business owners who lack sales acumen often promote their products or services to individuals who don't align with their value proposition. With experience in competitive sales and service positions, Harry Spaight says to identify your ideal client by targeting businesses that can benefit from your offerings. Rather than governing prospects' needs, listen to and acknowledge their concerns and implement empathetic processes to provide valuable solutions. In this episode of Systems Simplified, Adi Klevit chats with Harry Spaight, the Founder of Selling With Dignity, about his unique selling process. How does someone take their missionary life into sales? Harry's background allowed him to quickly see commonalities between emotional intelligence and being a good salesperson. Although it might differ from the common stereotype, Harry explains how it is possible to listen, be a good human, and still make sales in his new book, Selling With Dignity. Listen Here!Buy SELLING WITH DIGNITY#SponsoredConnect with Harry:LinkedInWebsiteBio: Harry SpaightHarry Spaight is a highly sought-after Keynote Speaker, Author, and Coach. After spending several years in mission work, Harry took the principles he learned and applied them to a career in sales. Loving others, listening, and treating others the way you want to be treated, speaking with tact, persistence, patience, kindness, and more. Harry transferred the skills he developed while working with and serving others over to the world of corporate sales. With very little business acumen, Harry applied the principles from the Good Book as to how to treat people. Those two thousand-year-old principles still proved to be practical. It was all about serving others. Harry believed that people would buy from him if he had a servant's mindset. The principles worked. Harry eventually moved and was leading a team of sales professionals in downtown Washington DC, just a few blocks from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Would the principles work in such a competitive market as Washington DC? The answer is yes. The principles are timeless. Now, after spending over twenty years as an Award-Winning Multi-million Dollar Sales Producer and Sales Leader in the extremely competitive arena of corporate sales, Harry knows firsthand how to be successful in sales and lead winning teams. While many sales leaders choose the cozy corner office, Harry preferred to be in the street, sleeves rolled up so to speak, with his team. Harry is one who leads by example, knowing it is better to get in the trenches with his people than to bark commands at them. He spearheaded sales teams to achieve the amazing success that resulted in over a hundred million dollars in business. Harry has a “Serve Others First” mindset, which is largely due to having served for over a decade as a missionary. Harry's understanding of clients, sales professionals, and Sales Leaders in building trusting relationships gives people the confidence in putting his knowledge and experience into practice. Harry is the author of Selling with Dignity. He is the co-host of a Top 20 podcast “Lead Sell Grow, The Human Experience”. He works with sales teams and executives to elevate their craft of selling and leading with dignity. And today we're welcoming, preparing to learn from Harry Spaight, the founder of Selling with Dignity, which I mean, can you do that, right? Harry, how is it going today? Harry Spaight [00:00:30]: It's going great, James. What's the good word for you? James [00:00:34]: Sales. Lo and behold, in the business world, nothing happens till sales made. Well, hell, that goes beyond just the business world, right? Why don't you tell us, first of all, what is selling with dignity? I guess both the phrase and the business, and we'll just go from there. Harry Spaight [00:00:51]: All right. So if you think about people who are stereotypical salespeople, they're always selling, they're very talkative. It's always about them. They've got to hit their number. They're the top producer for their company. They've got it on their business card. I am the complete opposite of that. So I like to refer to myself as the anti salesperson. I didn't trademark that, though. But for a lot of people who don't like sales and don't fit in that personality type, there's hope for you. Selling with dignity. This is my thinking for the day. Selling with dignity is the short version of it is self valued. Dignity for yourself. Right. Dignity for your client and dignity for the craft of sales, which is treat everyone well, do the right things for people, good things will happen. Interesting. How's that sound? James [00:01:50]: That all sounds great to me. Harry Spaight [00:01:53]: Quite a concept. James [00:01:54]: Yeah. The question that comes to mind then is when did you get into this? Did you sell or get sold without dignity? And then you're like, wait, we got to change this, or how did this. Harry Spaight [00:02:05]: Yeah, it's a good question, and it's really been a work in progress over the past two and a half decades. So prior to my sales career, I was selling of another type. I was doing mission work. James [00:02:19]: Oh, interesting. Okay. Harry Spaight [00:02:20]: Everything is sales in life, right? We're selling since we came out of the womb, when we cried for our mama, we wanted to close that deal and throughout life.

#197 -  "You probably know the importance of sales, yet you struggle because you don't want to be viewed as a salesperson. What if there was a better way to sell? A way that is easy for you? Here is a secret, you can sell by having a mindset of serving…and be massively successful!" - Harry SpaightThis episode of The Real Estate UnSalesperson podcast is all about selling with dignity, how to simplify selling, and how to succeed as an introvert in sales.  Listen today to gather all the great insights!Meet Harry SpaightSales for many is an ugly word. It is a dilemma for some too. They know they need to be better at sales but get sick over the idea of having to act like a salesperson. Some have said they aren't cut out for sales. Others are “too nice” for sales.Does selling need to be so difficult?I can relate. I was told that I was “too nice for sales. It was a tough business.”My first experience with a sales bullpen (think Boiler Room, Pursuit of Happyness, The Wolf of Wall Street) I was shoulder to shoulder in a tiny cubicle without dividers. I was committed but I knew this environment was going to be a big challenge. I was the proverbial fish out of water…actually a missionary in a sales bullpen may be more uncomfortable than the water-less fish.As a former missionary, I thought I could help others in business. What I needed to learn was to actually sell myself and my product. I knew that my secret power was in the serving. I didn't have a lot of business acumen at the time nor was I a strong closer. I was actually more like the anti-salesperson than a salesperson per se. If I was going to succeed, SERVING would be the ticket to my success. From this background, I took what I learned in the mission field about serving, putting others first, being a Giver, listening with empathy, being persistent, staying positive, being patient and kind, having a solid work ethic with good follow through. I brought these traits and others into the business community. Then I became adept at story telling too and continued to learn to master the craft of sales. Eventually the success led to leading sales teams and helping people to be better at the craft of selling and thus growing the business.I figured there were others like me. People who were not the highly competitive Type A personalities but were more chill but still want to succeed. We are not the ones that need to sing our own praises and to be the hero of every story. In fact, we prefer to put others in the limelight and smile at their success. For us, the client is easily the hero of the story. These people frequently think they may be too nice for sales. They are told or believe they just aren't aggressive or pushy enough. I think differently. I think most buyers would rather work with someone like us more than the aggressive, strong closing types. So now what? Think of the skills you already have acquired. Sales skills can be acquired too. We don't typically succeed at something by accident, work is involved. I have read countless books over the years and spent thousands on training to be better and to get the shortcuts to help me succeed quicker. This knowledge and wisdom gained is to be shared. Serving others so they too can have a successful business and provide well for their families and hopefully be a good citizen for their community, is my mission.Thomas Watson a PreSupport the showGet the UnSalesyGram Newsletter!Would you like to get some great ideas on how to successfully sell real estate in an unsalesy manner along with some inspiration and motivation? Start selling (with dignity) and making money with expert Harry Spaight. Harry Spaight is the author of the best-selling book, Selling With Dignity. Harry teaches us all about shedding the shame of selling and learning how to monetize our business with passion and purpose. In the world of sales, there are all kinds of tactics and strategies. What is the latest and greatest strategy to get people to buy our wares? Is it sales automation? Artificial Intelligence? Selling is getting to be more and more challenging. The pressure is on. Companies are spending untold sums of money to grow their businesses. Salespeople are being viewed as robots who are mechanically calling and emailing with little to no relationship building. Accountants are looking at spreadsheets of activity and view the craft of sales as something that can be achieved as simply doing a task. Why are some successful and others are not? They do not understand the nuances of personality, relationships, and the skills required to bring in new business.Customers and clients desire to be treated well. Many prefer to bypass people altogether and buy what they need without human interaction. Who can be trusted these days? There are all kinds of scams, misrepresentations, and con artists taking advantage of people. People at their core prefer to do business with people who can be trusted, who do what is right and put others' interests over their own. But where are these types of salespeople? Many salespeople are only thinking about their own livelihood and quotas. They aren't thinking about service to others. They often don't even have the time to serve others after they sell their product or service and they have already moved on to the next customer (victim).Selling With Dignity takes a different approach. Instead of viewing people as numbers and machines, salespeople can be dignified in their approach. Selling is an honorable profession when it is done right. When sellers feel they are valuable and have integrity and respect, this opens the door for better conversations and eventually relationships. This book puts an end to sleazy sales tactics and proves Selling With Dignity can be done and it leads to massive success.Get Harry's Book:Amazon.com: Selling With Dignity eBook : Spaight, Harry: Kindle StoreLearn More About Harry Here:Learn a better way to sell - Selling with DignityJoin Our Community And Create A Buzz For Your BusinessGet Our Favorite Microphone Here: The Shure MV7⬇https://shure.pxf.io/c/3476149/879980/12212?prod=aonic50&source=facebookWhy We LOVE The Shure MV7:Shure's SM7B mic is a long-time favorite among producers and recording engineers. How to Get Past the Discouragement of the Word No | Harry Spaight - 1595

Whether you're a sales professional or work in another industry, hearing the word ‘no' can get anyone in a negative mindset. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by Harry Spaight, a sales coach and consultant who wants to help every salesperson overcome their fears to find sales success. Why does discouragement affect us so badly? As sellers, we frequently take rejections personally.  Even if the sale is rejected for a myriad of reasons, the seller will still assume they are the reason the prospect is not interested in the sale. We make offers through options, just like a fine-dining server. Each time a server makes an option, they expect a rejection. If professional offers can get into the same mindset, we can lead with service in mind. If someone doesn't want your offer, think about what other options might impact their business or be helpful to their work. Sales is a place of service. There are so many choices with what you're selling. Make it easy for a buyer to work with you and you'll find sales naturally coming your way. Help buyers quantify their pains. Don't encourage someone to purchase your product if the pain is not enough to justify the purchase - it results in remorse for the product. People will solve their problems one way or another. If you can provide benefits in addition to a solution, you'll give long-term value the buyer can't supply themselves. Sales isn't a numbers game; it's a skills game. If you believe sales is a numbers game, you do a poor job with the person in front of you to get to the easy yes. Dig deep and find the prospect's challenges to determine if they're a viable candidate for the product. There are numbers tied to sales that are important. However, the numbers shouldn't be at the expense of the conversations with the prospects in front of you. Hary's major takeaway? Serve the person across from you, and good things will happen. His book, Selling with Dignity, and his podcast, Sales Made Easy, discuss the standards of selling with service in mind.  This episode is brought to you in part by Scratchpad. In this episode of Enterprise Sales Development podcast, we speak with Harry Spaight, a keynote speaker, coach and author of “Selling with Dignity: Your Formula for Life-Changing Sales Results.” Harry talks about his book and the inspiration behind it. He talks about issues that are important in the sales space and why it's important to understand the buyer and view the “gatekeepers” along the way as human. He also discusses why you should use dignity, respect and humility in your sales approach.  WHAT YOU'LL LEARN His book, “Selling with Dignity: Your Formula for Life-Changing Sales Results,” and what inspired him to write it Why he's the anti-salesperson who made a living in sales Why you should lead with service and understand the buyer How to use humility in your sales approach QUOTES “I feel that even those who are the pushy ‘It's all about me,' if you adapt or adopt a little of this thinking about serving others and providing value for them, then those people would be more inclined to listen to you instead of ghosting you.” -Harry Spaight [05:16] “It's part of how we hire. It's part of what we think. We think of the thick skin, get past the no, but buyers today don't want any of that. They're making their own decisions and they're dealing with sales at the last minute, looking for an answer to that problem that they already figured out a lot of times. And they don't need some pushy salesperson to say, ‘No, you're wrong. I know more about this than you do, so you need to listen to me.'” -Harry Spaight [09:05] “It's the same problem everywhere. Whether you're selling a $5,000 product or a $5 million dollar product, I'm told it's the same.” -Harry Spaight [19:51] “If you just swallow the pride and let go of the ego and just say to people, ‘Show me. Show me how you want to buy. Show me how you want to talk to salespeople. Show me what you like.' And just accept the instruction and do it.” -Harry Spaight [34:32] “If you can ask ‘How can I serve?' every time you're talking to a person, a whole new world opens up of opportunities.” -Harry Spaight [47:51] TIMESTAMPS [00:01] Intro [00:25] This week's guest: Harry Spaight [01:48] Inspiration behind his book [04:14] The idea of service [07:31] Why do people make this mistake?
