Predatory Agents vs. Protective Agents—Your Knight on the FieldThe real estate industry, like any profession, hosts a wide spectrum of personalities. There are:Predatory agents, who see dollar signs first and clients second.Protective agents—the “knights” who live and die by their oath to serve and protect.I'm a first responder who spent years wearing a badge—standing up for those in need, navigating life-and-death circumstances. That discipline taught me the importance of honor. Real estate is far less dangerous physically, but financially, it can be a warzone of shady deals and unmet promises.Protecting Homebuyers and Sellers in Santa ClaritaSanta Clarita is a prime real estate market. But high demand can bring out questionable characters. When unscrupulous agents sense you're new to the process, they might:Pressure you into signing an exclusive contract without fully explaining the terms.Encourage you to overprice your property to lock you into a lengthy listing agreement—only to push for price reductions later.Offer kickbacks or “bonuses” to the buyer's agent without your knowledge, ignoring the potential conflict of interest.Don't be fooled. A protective agent (like the fatherly, watchful voice I strive to be) will always keep your best interests at the forefront.Youtube Channels:Conner with Honor - real estateHome Muscle - fat torchingFrom first responder to real estate expert, Connor with Honor brings honesty and integrity to your Santa Clarita home buying or selling journey. Have you been thinking about starting a private practice on the side in a niche you are passionate about? Then you're going to love this episode of Private Practice Success Stories! I sat down with Kyarra Bright, one of my Start Your Private Practice students to share her story. Kyarra is a speech language pathologist with a pediatric private practice in Orange County, California specializing in infant feeding. She started her private practice after having frustrations with patients being prematurely discharged and not receiving continued services, which led to her private practice “Little Pod Speech and Feeding Therapy.” In this episode, Kyarra shares her desire to continue working at a hospital while having her practice on the side allowing her to maintain her passion for hospital work and provide continuity of care for discharged patients. Kyarra also reflects on her journey in the Start Your Private Practice Program and how the program helped redefine what success meant to her. After working several years as a pediatric medical speech-language pathologist, Kyarra Bright noticed an ongoing trend where many patients who were discharged from the hospital no longer had access to speech and feeding services due to the lack of provider availability. Little Pod Speech and Feeding Therapy was created to provide a solution to address this ongoing issue. Kyarra currently offers speech and feeding therapy for pediatrics in the heart of Orange County, California. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:The need Kyarra saw in her community and how she decided to help fill itHow the Start program helped Kyarra move forward with her private practice dreamsHow the support you'll find in the program can help you push through challengesThe key to finding your first clients in your private practiceThe possibilities when you follow your passion and zone of genius in your fieldThe different ways you can make private practice work for youOne way you can increase your impact within your field The doors that open to you when you have a private practiceI hope you enjoyed this conversation with Kyrra! I share insights on the importance of spiritual hygiene and building a sturdy foundation for all endeavors."Before I had a morning practice and before I created my foundation in faith, I was all over the place. I was seeking answers outside of myself. I was letting other people tell me how things should look and be and do, and giving away my power."Here are some magical takeaways from the episode:1. Importance of Faith: Chelsea discussed the vital role of faith in manifesting our dreams, emphasizing that it's not tied to religion but to what we believe in and stand for. She highlighted the need to connect with ourselves and our source, fostering a strong foundation of faith.2. Spiritual Hygiene: Chelsea stressed the significance of spiritual hygiene as maintenance for our foundation. Just as we care for physical assets, we need to dedicate time to our spiritual well-being to assess, maintain, and protect our foundation from undesirable elements.3. Reflection & Intention: Chelsea shared empowering questions to contemplate throughout the week, encouraging intentional reflection on what we stand for, where we turn in challenging times, and how we can nourish and fortify our foundation.[EPISODE BUTTON]If you resonate with these insights and want to explore this further, I want to personally invite you to book a free call with me! This week's episode of the Fancy Scientist podcast was inspired by an extremely honest and vulnerable article by Georgina Mayhew called The Conservation Career Trap. When I posted this in my Getting a Job in Wildlife Biology Facebook group, it sparked an overwhelming response from others sharing similar sentiments or fears that the same would happen to them. One reader said “It is so incredibly important to address this! Many people will find it comforting to know that they aren't alone in their struggles and that others are feeling the same frustration and disappointment that they do. I have had many times recently where I have held back the urge to email a complaint to an organization advertising a job position with a measly salary, but expecting the world from their candidates. Everyone I speak to in the industry is frustrated, feels taken advantage of because they feel the job is seen as ‘a passion, not a skill' and the only way up is filling a dead man's shoes. This doesn't create the drive we want for those in the industry and it won't help to create a better world in the process. The whole thing needs a reboot and fast! Thank you for sharing this Georgina,” while another said “Thank you for sharing this. I'm just about to finish a PhD and want to go into work for a conservation charity but the pay is really hard. I've been living off a stipend for the past 4 years (which is hard enough), I don't want to keep living on a low wage. I saw a dream job, which was around £17k after tax full time, and I couldn't bring myself to apply for it. We need to be able to afford to live, and pay is a huge barrier to diversity.”Georgina's post highlights the struggles many face - from the romanticized vision of working with charismatic creatures in exotic locations to the realities of day-to-day life in working in conservation, and the harsh truths of rejection, debt, and unpaid volunteering. In this podcast, I explore the topics brought up by the Conservation Career Trap and validate some of the hidden struggles that many conservationists face. I also explore the emotional toll that this career path can take and the importance of maintaining a healthy sense of self-worth separate from job success. But here's the twist: being aware of these very real challenges  doesn't mean you should abandon your dreams. Instead, it's about empowering you with knowledge of what it looks like on the other side and strategies to navigate these obstacles when they arise. This episode is a MUST-listen for anyone considering a career in wildlife conservation. You'll gain valuable insights into the challenges you will face and learn strategies for overcoming them. By the end of this podcast, you'll be better prepared to navigate the Conservation Career Trap and pursue your passion with realistic expectations and a solid plan.Specifically, we discussed:The reality of the Conservation Career Trap and its implications for aspiring conservationistsUnderstanding expectations vs. reality when it comes to this fieldThe importance of awareness and open discussion about the challenges in the conservation fieldPractical tips and strategies for overcoming barriers and advancing in your conservation careerThe power of MINDSET, mentorship,  and support in navigating the path to a successful careerAnd MORE!!I'm Dr. Stephanie Manka (formerly Schuttler), a wildlife biologist of nearly 20 yrs with 20+ peer-reviewed scientific publications, author of the book Getting a Job in Wildlife Biology: What It's Like and What You Need to Know (https://www.amazon.com/Getting-Job-Wildlife-Biology-What/dp/B08JDYXS4G/) and founder of Fancy Scientist. This is: 6 non-obvious mental health issues specific to AI safety., published by Igor Ivanov on August 18, 2023 on LessWrong.IntroI am a psychotherapist, and I help people working on AI safety. I noticed patterns of mental health issues highly specific to this group. It's not just doomerism, there are way more that are less obvious. If you struggle with a mental health issue related to AI safety, feel free to leave a comment about it and about things that help you with it. You might also support others in the comments. Sometimes such support makes a lot of difference and people feel like they are not alone. All the examples in this post are anonymized and changed in a way that it's impossible to recognize a specific person behind them.AI safety is a rather unusual fieldThe problems described in this post arise because AI safety is not an ordinary field to work in. Many people within the AI safety community believe that it might be the most important field of work, but the general public mostly doesn't care that much. Also, the field itself is extremely competitive and newcomers often have hard time getting a job.No one really knows when we will create AGI, and whether we will be able to keep it aligned. If we fail to align AGI, the humanity might extinct, and even if we succeed, it will radically transform the world.PatternsAGI will either cause doom or create a utopia. Everything else seem unimportant and meaningless.Alex is an ML engineer working in a startup that fights with aging. He believes that AGI will either destroy humanity or bring a utopia, and among other things it will stop aging, so Alex thinks that his job is meaningless, and quits it. Wetiko: Healing the Mind-Virus That Plagues Our World will open you to a new reality. Paul Levy explains the benefits for personal and world growth. In its Native American meaning, wetiko is an evil cannibalistic spirit that can take over people's minds, leading to selfishness, insatiable greed, and consumption as an end, destructively turning our intrinsic creative genius against our humanity. Revealing the presence of wetiko in our modern world behind every form of destruction our species is carrying out, both individual and collective, Paul Levy shows how this mind-virus is so embedded in our psyches that it is almost undetectable--and it is our blindness to it that gives wetiko its power. Yet, as Levy reveals in striking detail, by recognizing this highly contagious mind parasite, by seeing wetiko, we can break free from its hold and realize the vast creative powers of the human mind. Levy explores how artists, philosophers, and spiritual traditions across the ages have been creatively symbolizing this deadly pathogen of the psyche to help us see it and heal it. First, he examines the concept of wetiko as it appears in the teachings of the Kabbalah, Hawaiian kahuna shamanism, Buddhism, and mystical Christianity and through esoteric concepts like egregores and demons counterfeiting spirits, and psychic vampires. Next, he reveals how visionary thinkers such as C. G. Jung, Sri Aurobindo, Philip K. Dick, Colin Wilson, Nicolas Berdyaev, and Rene Girard point to wetiko uniquely and creatively. Finally, he explores how the projection of the shadow self- scapegoating is the underlying psychological mechanism fueling wetiko and examines wetiko in the Covid-19 pandemic, showing that we can reframe the pandemic to receive the lessons and opportunities embedded in it. We talk about Description of WetikoAddictionsHow Wetiko feeds off fearHow we caught the mind virusThe dreaming conceptCollective TraumaThe blind spots in our psycheThe non-local fieldThe inner disease of the soulWetiko and quantum natureHealing Wetiko Paul Levy is a pioneer in the field of spiritual emergence and a Tibetan Buddhist practitioner for more than 35 years. The past two years have thrown the world in a state of collective fear, trauma, and grief. With the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine, that cycle is continuing. This week I'm joined by a very special lady who happens to be one of my closest and dearest friends. I first met Haumea Hanakahi over 10 years ago when we were in an online program together. We later met in person at a live event and have since traveled to some of the most beautiful places in the world together.Haumea is a highly gifted psychic, intuitive, and mystic. Her passion is evolving consciousness on Earth and helping to make the invisible… visible. She can be found geeking out on discovering the higher spiritual workings of Creation and bridging Science and Spirit.I asked Haumea to lend her wisdom and insights into the topic of fear, trauma, and healing in today's world. She's been on her own healing journey for the past 29 years. In this episode, we covered so much that I broke it up into two episodes - so be sure to come back for Part 2 next week!In Part 1, we talk about:The effects of chemical poisoning and the physical effects it caused for herThe way her brain injury resembled Alzheimer'sHow listening to her intuition helped her navigate her healing journeyWhat the doctors told her she should do - and what she knew to do insteadThe prayer she said every day that helped herHow she tuned into her own body to receive the wisdom she requiredHow she connected with trees and plants - and how they helped her on her healing journeyThe amazing way we can all source this information - but what we have to do to allow itWhere she lived in Hawaii for 16 yearsThe important element in the questions we askThe piece that's often missing when we gain knowledge and wisdomHer insights about much of what people believe to be knowledge and truthHer research and learning of the inverses, or reverses, of what's true that's being put out into the collective human knowledge fieldThe exciting benefits of the solar flares that are occurring and how they're helping with the awakening and raising of consciousness (for those who are ready)Why it's critical to step away from what we're told by others and look at things from a different perspectiveThe amazing effect that's possible when we change our thinking and the feelings we produceWhat happens to us physically when we're in a state of fear or traumaHow the news and advertisements get us into the fear state - and why they do it“The Bandwagon Effect” - what it is and how it's used to manipulate usHow soft advertising is perpetuating the culture of fear we're living inWhy equating the news with the truth is another reversalWhat we can turn to for truthWhy sleeping with the TV on is so harmfulThe safest place for us to beYou can learn more about this magical woman here. In this episode, I’m excited to explore a really powerful topic with you — how our language has a profound impact on our everyday lives! When you’re conscious of your language and you release disempowering words from your vocab, you will see how magnetic, positive, and beautiful your life can become!!! I’ve been practicing this in my own life, and I have seen such radical shifts. It sounds so simple, but it’s SO powerful! OUR LANGUAGE GUIDES EVERYTHING WE DO! Our words are vibrations and every time we speak (even if it’s just casually!), we’re directing our subconscious vibrationally. When we become mindful of this and begin to speak with more empowered language, our subconscious AND the universe will respond!IN THIS EPISODE WE EXPLORE:The power of the subconscious mindHow your subconscious mind is actually an aspect of your soulHow your words are vibrations and how your subconscious mind responds to them Why “I” statements are the most powerful statements you can makeWhy casual conversations and off-hand comments are some of the most important things to tune into What to do when you have a negative reaction and how to clear it from your fieldThe vibrations of words when you say them out loud — are they taking you up, down, or keeping you in the same place? The 4 disempowering phrases you should remove from your vocabulary and how to reframe them instead to bring more power into your lifeYour 2-Week Challenge: Practice your mindful language for two weeks and see how much it shifts you!
