How can technology help us diagnose autism earlier and get kids the support they need sooner? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Cheryl Tierney to talk about an exciting advancement in autism diagnostics and how technology is helping clinicians and families access answers faster. With long waitlists and limited specialists in many areas, getting an autism diagnosis can sometimes take months or even years. Dr. Tierney shares how new technology is helping change that.We dive into the EarliPoint system, an FDA-cleared diagnostic aid that uses eye-tracking technology to analyze a child's viewing behavior while watching short social videos. The system collects an incredible 120 data points per second, giving clinicians objective data to support diagnostic decision-making. Even more exciting, the assessment takes only about 12 minutes and can be used with children as young as 16 months.Beyond diagnosis, we also talk about how this technology can support clinicians like speech therapists, BCBAs, and occupational therapists by providing data on social engagement, receptive language indicators, and problem-solving skills. That means we can track progress over time and better understand whether interventions are truly moving the needle.I also loved our conversation about interdisciplinary collaboration and the importance of having someone “quarterback” a child's care so families receive consistent guidance. This episode highlights how innovation, research, and teamwork can make earlier diagnosis and better support possible for so many families.#autism #speechtherapyWhat's Inside:Why skipping foundational ABA texts worries me for the future of the fieldThe ethical responsibility professionals have to collaborate across disciplinesWhy refusing services based on another therapy provider can harm learnersMentioned In This Episode:EarliPoint HealthEarn CEUs with a community of peers. Two trends I'm seeing in speech therapy and ABA have been on my mind lately, and honestly, they worry me about the future of our fields.First, I saw a discussion where future BCBAs were debating whether they even needed to read the Cooper book. For me, that text was foundational when learning the science of behavior analysis. When professionals start skipping core readings just to pass a test, it raises questions about how strong our foundation really is as a field. The second concern came from a speech therapy discussion where a private practice owner planned to refuse services to any child who also receives ABA. That really stopped me in my tracks. Our ethical codes call us to collaborate, and our learners deserve coordinated care, even when collaboration isn't always easy. These conversations matter because the strength of our fields depends on professionals who value the science and are willing to work together to support the students we serve.#autism #speechtherapyWhat's Inside:Why skipping foundational ABA texts worries me for the future of the fieldThe ethical responsibility professionals have to collaborate across disciplinesWhy refusing services based on another therapy provider can harm learnersMentioned In This Episode:Earn CEUs with a community of peers. The San Francisco 49ers (12-5) head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles (11-6) in a Wild Card matchup loaded with history, tension, and unanswered questions. The last time the 49ers were at Lincoln Financial Field, they dropped 40 points and embarrassed Philly. The last time these two met in the playoffs, Brock Purdy's season ended with a torn UCL. This time, the stakes — and the matchups — are different.Philadelphia's offense has quietly become one of the most inconsistent units in the NFC, ranking 19th in scoring, 26th in second-half points, and leading the NFL in three-and-outs. Jalen Hurts continues to push the ball deep, but accuracy, pocket pressure, and his inability to attack the middle of the field could play right into San Francisco's hands. On the other side, Kyle Shanahan's offense may be uniquely built to attack Vic Fangio's defense — especially if Christian McCaffrey gets rolling against a Philly run defense that's allowed 125+ rushing yards in every loss.Key topics in this breakdown:How the 49ers can disrupt Jalen Hurts with pressureWhy Philly's offense ranks near the bottom of the NFC playoff fieldThe impact of Trent Williams and Ricky Pearsall's injury statusWhy this could be a Christian McCaffrey takeover gameMatchups featuring George Kittle, DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, and Dallas GoedertHow San Francisco can exploit light boxes, soft zones, and middle-of-field windowsThis is a matchup-heavy Wild Card preview that explains exactly how the 49ers can win — and what could derail them if injuries strike at the wrong time.Purchase G.O.A.T Fuel: https://goatfuel.com/?rfsn=8542698.99750d3Visit Sports Spyder for up to date 49ers content: https://sportspyder.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/newsFollow us on Twitter @49ers_AccessFollow us on Instagram @49ers.access

I sat down with Kyarra Bright, one of my Start Your Private Practice students to share her story. Kyarra is a speech language pathologist with a pediatric private practice in Orange County, California specializing in infant feeding. Kyarra also reflects on her journey in the Start Your Private Practice Program and how the program helped redefine what success meant to her. After working several years as a pediatric medical speech-language pathologist, Kyarra Bright noticed an ongoing trend where many patients who were discharged from the hospital no longer had access to speech and feeding services due to the lack of provider availability. Little Pod Speech and Feeding Therapy was created to provide a solution to address this ongoing issue. Kyarra currently offers speech and feeding therapy for pediatrics in the heart of Orange County, California. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:The need Kyarra saw in her community and how she decided to help fill itHow the Start program helped Kyarra move forward with her private practice dreamsHow the support you'll find in the program can help you push through challengesThe key to finding your first clients in your private practiceThe possibilities when you follow your passion and zone of genius in your fieldThe different ways you can make private practice work for youOne way you can increase your impact within your field The doors that open to you when you have a private practiceI hope you enjoyed this conversation with Kyrra! I share insights on the importance of spiritual hygiene and building a sturdy foundation for all endeavors."Before I had a morning practice and before I created my foundation in faith, I was all over the place. I was seeking answers outside of myself. I was letting other people tell me how things should look and be and do, and giving away my power."Here are some magical takeaways from the episode:1. Importance of Faith: Chelsea discussed the vital role of faith in manifesting our dreams, emphasizing that it's not tied to religion but to what we believe in and stand for. She highlighted the need to connect with ourselves and our source, fostering a strong foundation of faith.2. Spiritual Hygiene: Chelsea stressed the significance of spiritual hygiene as maintenance for our foundation. Just as we care for physical assets, we need to dedicate time to our spiritual well-being to assess, maintain, and protect our foundation from undesirable elements.3. Reflection & Intention: Chelsea shared empowering questions to contemplate throughout the week, encouraging intentional reflection on what we stand for, where we turn in challenging times, and how we can nourish and fortify our foundation.[EPISODE BUTTON]If you resonate with these insights and want to explore this further, I want to personally invite you to book a free call with me! This week's episode of the Fancy Scientist podcast was inspired by an extremely honest and vulnerable article by Georgina Mayhew called The Conservation Career Trap. When I posted this in my Getting a Job in Wildlife Biology Facebook group, it sparked an overwhelming response from others sharing similar sentiments or fears that the same would happen to them. One reader said “It is so incredibly important to address this! Many people will find it comforting to know that they aren't alone in their struggles and that others are feeling the same frustration and disappointment that they do. I have had many times recently where I have held back the urge to email a complaint to an organization advertising a job position with a measly salary, but expecting the world from their candidates. Everyone I speak to in the industry is frustrated, feels taken advantage of because they feel the job is seen as ‘a passion, not a skill' and the only way up is filling a dead man's shoes. This doesn't create the drive we want for those in the industry and it won't help to create a better world in the process. The whole thing needs a reboot and fast! Thank you for sharing this Georgina,” while another said “Thank you for sharing this. I'm just about to finish a PhD and want to go into work for a conservation charity but the pay is really hard. I've been living off a stipend for the past 4 years (which is hard enough), I don't want to keep living on a low wage. I saw a dream job, which was around £17k after tax full time, and I couldn't bring myself to apply for it. We need to be able to afford to live, and pay is a huge barrier to diversity.”Georgina's post highlights the struggles many face - from the romanticized vision of working with charismatic creatures in exotic locations to the realities of day-to-day life in working in conservation, and the harsh truths of rejection, debt, and unpaid volunteering. In this podcast, I explore the topics brought up by the Conservation Career Trap and validate some of the hidden struggles that many conservationists face. I also explore the emotional toll that this career path can take and the importance of maintaining a healthy sense of self-worth separate from job success. But here's the twist: being aware of these very real challenges  doesn't mean you should abandon your dreams. Instead, it's about empowering you with knowledge of what it looks like on the other side and strategies to navigate these obstacles when they arise. This episode is a MUST-listen for anyone considering a career in wildlife conservation. You'll gain valuable insights into the challenges you will face and learn strategies for overcoming them. By the end of this podcast, you'll be better prepared to navigate the Conservation Career Trap and pursue your passion with realistic expectations and a solid plan.Specifically, we discussed:The reality of the Conservation Career Trap and its implications for aspiring conservationistsUnderstanding expectations vs. reality when it comes to this fieldThe importance of awareness and open discussion about the challenges in the conservation fieldPractical tips and strategies for overcoming barriers and advancing in your conservation careerThe power of MINDSET, mentorship,  and support in navigating the path to a successful careerAnd MORE!!I'm Dr. Stephanie Manka (formerly Schuttler), a wildlife biologist of nearly 20 yrs with 20+ peer-reviewed scientific publications, author of the book Getting a Job in Wildlife Biology: What It's Like and What You Need to Know (https://www.amazon.com/Getting-Job-Wildlife-Biology-What/dp/B08JDYXS4G/) and founder of Fancy Scientist.
