When you think about sales how does it make you feel? For most people they feel icky and greasy. Sales doesn't have to be that way. You can implement a sales strategy into your fundraising approach so that you have a constant stream of people coming into your network for you to build stronger relationships with. What you'll learn: → why having a sales strategy doesn't mean you have to be salesy. → why a sales mindset works for nonprofits. → ways to motivate your team to keep pushing forward. → ways to keep things simple. → when it's time to expand. Want to skip ahead? Here are key takeaways: [5:40] To have an effective sales strategy doesn't mean throwing everything in people's faces. Think about servers at a restaurant. Great servers know the menu, what recommendations to make, ask you if you want desert. You don't feel like you're being sold to but you are. Plus, that restaurant is paying attention to ticket totals and tips to help determine who gets the best sections. [10:53] It starts with building relationships and making connection. If you just keep coming back to people to ask for money and not learning about what their motivations are and who they are then you'll eventually run that well dry. [15:17] Create a better breakdown of your fundraising goal to know who to target. If you're looking for a certain amount of donors at a certain average gift then you can track where you're at and which audience you should be targeting. [23:02] Keep reviewing goals and ensure the team is motivated. Figure out how members of your team like to be appreciated. Ensure that the goals that you're setting have a why attached so people feel excited to help get there. Don't forget to celebrate. [26:13] Encourage listening and providing value to your audience. Avoid going in to a meeting expecting to close. Go in ready to get to know someone and excited to learn. Come into the converation ready to provide value and knowing some things about the person you're talking with. In this episode: Sales has a negative connotation, with popular movies like The Wolf of Wall Street depicting salespeople exploiting individuals for monetary gain. However, you can revise this process using a service-based approach. What are the basics of a compassionate sales system? Business owners who lack sales acumen often promote their products or services to individuals who don't align with their value proposition. With experience in competitive sales and service positions, Harry Spaight says to identify your ideal client by targeting businesses that can benefit from your offerings. Rather than governing prospects' needs, listen to and acknowledge their concerns and implement empathetic processes to provide valuable solutions. Harry talks about the components to avoid while selling, the common notions about traditional sales systems, and his drive to elevate sales performance.

Discover the Evolution of Our Podcast! Why We Rebranded to "Relentless Goal Achievers" Welcome to a special behind-the-scenes episode where we unveil a pivotal decision in the life of our podcast. Join Eric as he takes you on a journey through the transformation that led to our exciting rebranding. In today's episode, Eric kicks off Season 3 by sharing the story behind our podcast's evolution. We've bid farewell to "Lead, Sell, Grow - The Human Experience" and embraced our new identity as the "Relentless Goal Achievers" podcast. Why the change? Eric explains that, while the initial journey was incredible, he and his friend, Harry, had different visions for the podcast's direction. Harry delved into sales, even launching his own podcast and authoring a book, "Selling With Dignity." Eric's passion lies in the "human experience" aspect of the podcast. He continues to invite remarkable guests who have transformed their lives from humble beginnings, sharing their inspiring stories with all of you. Five months ago, he initiated the "Relentless Goal Achievers" group coaching, where like-minded individuals collaborate to achieve their dreams. However, Eric felt that the podcast's previous branding no longer aligned with his company, brand, and future goals for the coaching program. This sparked a contemplative journey to synchronize all facets and create the community he envisioned. The community that had already blossomed under "Lead, Sell, Grow" has now become the thriving Relentless Goal Achievers Community on Facebook. If you're curious about Eric's decision to rebrand and want to learn more about our exciting new direction, don't miss this episode! Tune in now for an inspiring conversation about growth, transformation, and relentless pursuit of your goals.
Sales leader and author Harry Spaight shares how sustainable sales results are all about building healthy, trusted relationships. Create stronger connection and your own path to success by selling with dignity.
How does someone take their missionary life into sales? Harry's background allowed him to quickly see commonalities between emotional intelligence and being a good salesperson. Although it might differ from the common stereotype, Harry explains how it is possible to listen, be a good human, and still make sales in his new book, Selling With Dignity. Listen Here!Buy SELLING WITH DIGNITY#SponsoredConnect with Harry:LinkedInWebsiteBio: Harry SpaightHarry Spaight is a highly sought-after Keynote Speaker, Author, and Coach. After spending several years in mission work, Harry took the principles he learned and applied them to a career in sales. Loving others, listening, and treating others the way you want to be treated, speaking with tact, persistence, patience, kindness, and more. Harry transferred the skills he developed while working with and serving others over to the world of corporate sales. With very little business acumen, Harry applied the principles from the Good Book as to how to treat people. Those two thousand-year-old principles still proved to be practical. It was all about serving others. Harry believed that people would buy from him if he had a servant's mindset. The principles worked. Harry eventually moved and was leading a team of sales professionals in downtown Washington DC, just a few blocks from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Would the principles work in such a competitive market as Washington DC? The answer is yes. The principles are timeless. Now, after spending over twenty years as an Award-Winning Multi-million Dollar Sales Producer and Sales Leader in the extremely competitive arena of corporate sales, Harry knows firsthand how to be successful in sales and lead winning teams. While many sales leaders choose the cozy corner office, Harry preferred to be in the street, sleeves rolled up so to speak, with his team. Harry is one who leads by example, knowing it is better to get in the trenches with his people than to bark commands at them. He spearheaded sales teams to achieve the amazing success that resulted in over a hundred million dollars in business. Harry has a “Serve Others First” mindset, which is largely due to having served for over a decade as a missionary. Harry's understanding of clients, sales professionals, and Sales Leaders in building trusting relationships gives people the confidence in putting his knowledge and experience into practice. Harry is the author of Selling with Dignity. He is the co-host of a Top 20 podcast “Lead Sell Grow, The Human Experience”. He works with sales teams and executives to elevate their craft of selling and leading with dignity. And today we're welcoming, preparing to learn from Harry Spaight, the founder of Selling with Dignity, which I mean, can you do that, right? Harry, how is it going today? Harry Spaight [00:00:30]: It's going great, James. What's the good word for you? James [00:00:34]: Sales. Lo and behold, in the business world, nothing happens till sales made. Well, hell, that goes beyond just the business world, right? Why don't you tell us, first of all, what is selling with dignity? I guess both the phrase and the business, and we'll just go from there. Harry Spaight [00:00:51]: All right. So if you think about people who are stereotypical salespeople, they're always selling, they're very talkative. It's always about them. They've got to hit their number. They're the top producer for their company. They've got it on their business card. I am the complete opposite of that. So I like to refer to myself as the anti salesperson. I didn't trademark that, though. But for a lot of people who don't like sales and don't fit in that personality type, there's hope for you. Selling with dignity. This is my thinking for the day. Selling with dignity is the short version of it is self valued. Dignity for yourself. Right. Dignity for your client and dignity for the craft of sales, which is treat everyone well, do the right things for people, good things will happen. Interesting. How's that sound? James [00:01:50]: That all sounds great to me. Harry Spaight [00:01:53]: Quite a concept. James [00:01:54]: Yeah. The question that comes to mind then is when did you get into this? Did you sell or get sold without dignity? And then you're like, wait, we got to change this, or how did this. Harry Spaight [00:02:05]: Yeah, it's a good question, and it's really been a work in progress over the past two and a half decades. So prior to my sales career, I was selling of another type. I was doing mission work. James [00:02:19]: Oh, interesting. Okay. Harry Spaight [00:02:20]: Everything is sales in life, right? We're selling since we came out of the womb, when we cried for our mama, we wanted to close that deal and throughout life.

Start selling (with dignity) and making money with expert Harry Spaight. Harry Spaight is the author of the best-selling book, Selling With Dignity. Harry teaches us all about shedding the shame of selling and learning how to monetize our business with passion and purpose. In the world of sales, there are all kinds of tactics and strategies. What is the latest and greatest strategy to get people to buy our wares? Is it sales automation? Artificial Intelligence? Selling is getting to be more and more challenging. The pressure is on. Companies are spending untold sums of money to grow their businesses. Salespeople are being viewed as robots who are mechanically calling and emailing with little to no relationship building. Accountants are looking at spreadsheets of activity and view the craft of sales as something that can be achieved as simply doing a task. Why are some successful and others are not? They do not understand the nuances of personality, relationships, and the skills required to bring in new business.Customers and clients desire to be treated well. Many prefer to bypass people altogether and buy what they need without human interaction. Who can be trusted these days? There are all kinds of scams, misrepresentations, and con artists taking advantage of people. People at their core prefer to do business with people who can be trusted, who do what is right and put others' interests over their own. But where are these types of salespeople? Many salespeople are only thinking about their own livelihood and quotas. They aren't thinking about service to others. They often don't even have the time to serve others after they sell their product or service and they have already moved on to the next customer (victim).Selling With Dignity takes a different approach. Instead of viewing people as numbers and machines, salespeople can be dignified in their approach. Selling is an honorable profession when it is done right. When sellers feel they are valuable and have integrity and respect, this opens the door for better conversations and eventually relationships. This book puts an end to sleazy sales tactics and proves Selling With Dignity can be done and it leads to massive success.Get Harry's Book:Amazon.com: Selling With Dignity eBook : Spaight, Harry: Kindle StoreLearn More About Harry Here:Learn a better way to sell - Selling with DignityJoin Our Community And Create A Buzz For Your BusinessGet Our Favorite Microphone Here: The Shure MV7⬇https://shure.pxf.io/c/3476149/879980/12212?prod=aonic50&source=facebookWhy We LOVE The Shure MV7:Shure's SM7B mic is a long-time favorite among producers and recording engineers. Listen as they discuss whether artificial intelligence can bring dignity to sales and what its role would be in the near future. Service-minded people can succeed in sales and leadership without being pushy and egotistical. In this Expert Insight Interview, we welcome Harry Spaight, author of Selling with Dignity: Your Formula for Life-Changing Sales Results.
Before his sales career began officially, Harry Spaight spent more than a decade in mission work, including two years in the Dominican Republic. He believed that his background of serving, the ability to develop trust, putting others first and being a genuine listener while being relatable, would transfer over well into sales. Early on in Harry's career, he wondered if his thinking was correct. From what he saw, salespeople appeared to be pushy and say and do pretty much whatever it took to get the business. He realized quickly that was not going to work for him.Key Points:Selling with dignity only works when you live with dignityBecome AdaptableSells is emotional if you let it beKeep a servant mindsetFollow Harry Spaight:Website - https://harryspaight.com/Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/harryspaight/
Harry Spaight wonders whether 'sales is broken' whether it is the tactics used that are driving buyers to avoid contact with salespeople. There is a concern that when they do interact the whole experience is distinctly underwhelming. We can do better. The way we work to understand what value means should be a joy and pleasure to all parties. His approach to selling is based on service (not being subservient) and he illustrates this with the story of his own mission and living on a tropical island. EPISODE 5Welcome back to Living The Next Chapter - today we introduce you to the book, Selling With Dignity. Meet my new Clubhouse friend! Harry Spaight on the Living The Next Chapter PodcastAbout HarryHarry Spaight is a Keynote Speaker, Author, and Coach. Having grown up in a small New England town with old school values, Harry became involved in mission work. To support himself he had a small janitorial/office cleaning business. The mission work is what gave Harry the most joy and purpose. That work led him to spend two years in the Dominican Republic working with the local population to improve upon their life skills and spiritual growth.Upon returning to the States, Harry transferred his skills, working with people, to sales. With very little business acumen, Harry applied the principles from the Bible as a guide of how to treat people. Those principles that were two thousand years old or more still proved to be practical. The principles are indeed timeless. Now, after spending over 20 years as an Award-Winning Multi-million Dollar Sales Producer and Sales Leader in the extremely competitive arena of corporate sales, Harry knows firsthand how to be successful in sales and lead winning teams. While many sales leaders choose the cozy corner office, Harry preferred to be in the street, sleeves rolled up so to speak, with his team.Harry is one who leads by example, knowing it is better to get in the trenches with his people than to bark commands at them. He spearheaded sales teams to achieve amazing success that resulted in over 100 million dollars in business. Harry has a “Serve Others First” mindset, which is largely due to having served for over a decade as a missionary.Harry's understanding of clients, sales professionals, and Sales Leaders in building trusting relationships, gives people the confidence in putting his knowledge and experience into practice.Harry is the co-host of a Top 20 podcast “Lead Sell Grow, The Human Experience” and his inspirational book “Selling With Dignity” is now available. Harry is on a mission to take the sleaze out of sales and show success in sales can be achieved with honor.Harry works with sales teams and executives to elevate their craft of selling and leading with dignity. BIO: Harry Spaight is a Keynote Speaker, Coach, and Author of Selling with Dignity-Your Formula for Life-Changing Sales Results. STORY: Harry invested in mobile homes in Georgia without researching. He trusted a young man he knew through the father. In just three months, the houses were run down, and the tenants refused to pay rent. Harry lost over $100,000 that he'd made from selling his home. LEARNING: Get a financial advisor that you trust and consult before making an investment decision. Collaborate with the right people. Do your research. “Stick with what you're doing and get better at it.”Harry Spaight Guest profilehttps://www.linkedin.com/in/harryspaight/ (Harry Spaight) is a Keynote Speaker, Coach, and Author of https://amzn.to/3DYaR4n (Selling with Dignity-Your Formula for Life-Changing Sales Results). After spending several years in mission work, Harry has been succeeding in Sales as an Award-Winning Multi-million Dollar Sales Producer and Sales Leader for over two decades. Selling successfully can be achieved with timeless principles. Putting others over self, being a good listener, and doing the right thing all go a long way towards growing a successful business. Worst investment everIn the early 2000s, Harry met this young guy who was a real go-getter. He played golf with his dad, and the three built a great relationship. The young guy moved to South Carolina and got into real estate. The young man called Harry and told him about this opportunity he had investing in mobile homes. He said to him that all he had to do was make a low investment, allow him to use his credit, and the young man would take care of everything. Harry would then receive rent at the end of the month. Harry had just sold a house and made some money from it. He used this money to invest in six properties in a small town in Georgia. Soon enough, he started making passive income from the properties. He was making about $1,000 a month. Everything was working out great. About three months in, everything started going wrong. People stopped paying rent, and the property management left. Now Harry had to fly from Virginia to Georgia to collect his rent. He was shocked by what he saw. The properties were a slum. When he spoke to the tenants, they all refused to pay rent because the houses had so many issues. Now the $1,000 rent he was receiving turned into Harry paying somewhere around $4,000 a month in mortgages. The money he had made from the house sale started to dwindle. Harry went back to the young man and asked for his money back. The young man suggested that he give him three better houses, which would make him more money. Foolishly, Harry accepted the offer. His bills went up to $6,000 a month. The $100,000 he had made from the house sale was gone within a few months. Lessons learnedGet a financial advisor you trust, and bounce your ideas off of them before putting your money down. Andrew's takeawaysYou cannot build a sustainable business without relying on others. So spend time thinking about who you're committing to do something with because chances are, you're going to be with them a lot longer than you think. Want to read rather than listen? Here's a two-three minute read that covers an important sales topic: How To Create Brand Ambassadors
What is Selling With Dignity? That is the topic for this podcast as Eric and Harry speak about the new book. What is selling with dignity? It is treating yourself with respect and being respectful of others. Those that sell with dignity are not necessarily putting pressure on people to make a decision. We talk about a number of areas where this comes to the forefront. "Actors" are in sales too. However we don't need to be that way. If we are of the mindset that we don't want to resort to tactics, we don't have to. The book is for salespeople that don't want to be the pushy salesy type. Entrepreneurs will also benefit from this book. Some are afraid to ask for the order. In selling with dignity we have the opportunity to serve our clients and part of that is making the ask.For more about the topic of Selling With Dignity the book can be purchased on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1956353011?pf_rd_r=M5S2SXWXF0D238JFVEJV&pf_rd_p=8fe9b1d0-f378-4356-8bb8-cada7525eadd&pd_rd_r=5d278a39-a9cb-4f7f-aa06-63dd5221a55a&pd_rd_w=TCFVd&pd_rd_wg=fOhLA&ref_=pd_gw_unkhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/harryspaight/https://www.facebook.com/groups/leadsellgrow

In How to be a Go Giver to Grow Your Business, Bob Burg shares that being a Go Giver is all about about providing immense value to others. Nobody cares if a salesperson has a quota or needs to earn a living, the sales professional that is looking out for the interests of others. The book The Go Giver Leader is also similar in the sense that the priciples are the same. Leadership is influence. The essence is Pull instead of pushing their will and ideas on others.Influencers pull. People must first buy into you before they buy into your idea. The Go Giver leader and influencer need to be asking themselves questions about our clients or team member's goals and valuies. Helping them get what they want. Bob is the author of Endless Referrals which was a "how to" book. Great salesmanship is not about the product or the service. It is about the person you touch. The client is going to feel the impact of the sale. Having a noble purpose, a Why, is going to separate salespeople and companies. Being outwardly focused on others will lead to better results. Yet we also have to deal with our own human nature which typically means we are self focused. Bob brings up his definition of happiness which is living congruently with one's values. Just because we think something is a value for us, does not mean it is valuable for the prospect. How can we find what is valuable to others? Ask questions and listen is the best way to do this. Listen to understand. Remembering that we all have our own set of beliefs. Thus there is a need to constantly and gently ask for clarification. With MHW Live Music, Matt and his team were calling on the hospitality industry to promote musicians. He shares how although it is a competitive industry like most industries, due to the Covid pandemic, thethe playing field became level as the hotels were shut down. Since nobody was hiring musicians to perform in hotels that were closed, they made the most of the opportunity by starting relationships. From that business another one was spawned where Matt developed an outbound appointment setting business for corporate sales. Coach Phil McGeoghan-NFL Wide Receivers CoachConsistency, burning desire to compete. Sacrifice. Up early in the morning. As a football player, Phil like all players are under intense scrutiny. Their games and practices are filmed and coaches are approaching players to improve.Phil was the oldest of 7 kids. His dad was a prison dentist and a disciplinarian. Phil learned early what it was like to lead by setting a great example for his siblings. It is probably no accident that all of them have turned out with impressive careers.Phil shares some of his vulnerable characteristics with his players to build trust. This is much different compared to the authoritarian style of leadership that is so prevalent in the sport of football.Phil is one who takes responsibility. Listening to how he takes responsibility for a printer malfunctioning at a deadline is impressive. Most of us would gladly put the blame on an inanimate object but Phil talks about the accountability in the minor things as well. Instead of worrying who is to blame, one can move on quickly in a culture of accountability.Great advice is provided for the IGM people (I Got Mine). He suggests sitting down with the mission statement and drive the better culture, what is acceptable and what isn't. The IGMs may bounce from job to job but that will catch up with them.A challenge with some athletes is they lived their entire life playing in front of others with incredible highs. These athletes have an incredible let done to deal with and are starting over at the bottom. Even those that made tons of money are dealing with a huge void without the game.Overall this was an extremely enjoyable and enlightening conversation about coaching in sports at a very high level that easily translates into leadership in business.Find Coach Phil on Twitter @philmcgeoghan -- Harry SpaightCoaching Speaking Serving Co-host of Lead Sell Grow The Human Experience Podcasthttps://www.linkedin.com/in/harryspaight/ Cell 954.864.0468
Eric and I have the opportunity to speak with a rabbi who is now helping businesses to build trust with their teams and customers. How to Connect and Build Trust by Using Ethics - With Yonason Goldson we discuss the value of ethics and purpose in business. Success in business is ultimately about relationships and trust.Businesses sometimes lose sight of the simple things like doing the right things for their clients. Earning people's trust will help turn your clients into salespeople for your company. On the other hand there are companies that will pit employees and managers against each other in a survival of the fittest culture. These types of cultures are not sustainable. Yet other companies that build on trust and culture, not only do well, the message of culture travels and people want to do business with thoose cultures. We also touch on the fact that sometimes we have to keep our beliefs to ourselves in order for these same people to at least listen to a message that may help them. This conversation is one that we could continue for some time.
