In episode 20 of Adalah's podcast, Tania Hary, Executive Director of Gisha – Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, delves into the acute humanitarian catastrophe engulfing Gaza amid Israel's ongoing brutal assault. Tania discusses the impact of Israel's military's control over the Rafah crossing, a key humanitarian aid route, which came Israel issued evacuation orders to over 100,000 Palestinians in Rafah. She explains the consequences for humanitarian aid, Israel's obligations under international law, and the legal battles ahead. Tune in for an in-depth discussion of this critical humanitarian crisis and its broader implications.

Host Jamie McGoldrick speaks with Tania Hary, Executive Director at Gisha - Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, an Israeli not-for-profit organization which advocates for the freedom of movement of Palestinians. The conversation was recorded recently about the situation in Gaza. Tania says there's a “deep trauma” in Israel about the attack on October 7th. She explains that views have hardened, which makes it difficult to find a solution to the crisis in Gaza. Jamie asks Tania questions on international and humanitarian law and how they relate to attacks Israel is carrying out in Gaza. They discuss the humanitarian needs for civilians, not just during the conflict, but after the conflict has ended as well.

This week, we are joined by Tania Hary, the executive director of Gisha (“access”), an Israeli legal organization that fights for the freedom of movement of Palestinians. [2:25] We discuss the restrictive status quo that was in place long before October 7, in which Israel controlled travel in and out of the occupied territories, the flow of goods and food into Gaza, and the Census-like registry of the Palestinian population (that is implicated in the questioning of Gazan fatalities). [30:45] Tania explains how political repression and compulsory military service convince many Israelis that theirs is the “most moral army in the world.” In this episode, we ask: How are Israelis consuming images from and narratives about Gaza? What does it mean for politicians and media to dispute information, namely death counts, coming from sources in a besieged Gaza? What does this war reveal about the world order, humanitarian law, and human rights? The Transportation Security Administration has added a new explosive detection canine team at Richmond International Airport to enhance airport security. The canine team was trained at TSA's National Canine Training Center in San Antonio, Texas. Hary is a 5-year-old German Shepherd and he was trained for 12 weeks along with his partner and handler, B. Kyle Smith, as they learned to work together to detect explosives and explosive materials in the busy transportation environment. The dog sniffs the air currents surrounding travelers and their belongings as they pass through the airport terminal in an effort to detect anyone who may...Article LinkSupport the show

This is Stephen Schmidt from the Gazette digital news desk and I'm here with your update for Wednesday, September 21. It's going to feel completely different on Wednesday than the day before it. According to the National Weather Service, the high in the Cedar Rapids area is predicted to be 73 degrees. There will be a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms for much of the day, otherwise it will be partly sunny. On Wednesday night it will be cloudy, with a low of around 51 degrees. Representatives of Ingredion and the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 100G — nohttps://www.thegazette.com/business/ingredion-cites-commitment-to-being-good-corporate-citizen-as-cedar-rapids-strike-continues/ (w in its seventh week of a strike a)gainst Ingredion's Cedar Rapids facility — were asked to leave the Hotel at Kirkwood Center Tuesday morning after the two sides became heated over Ingredion officials bringing armed security professionals with them. Mike Moore, the local's principal and president, said in a news release sent to The Gazette that “the union views this show of intimidation as a sign of disrespect and a lack of intent to bargain in good faith.” In an email to The Gazette Tuesday afternoon, Becca Hary, Ingredion corporate communications director, wrote, “We have been eager to resume negotiations in order to reach a fair agreement for the benefit of all. Unfortunately, throughout this process, Ingredion employees have received repeated threats of violence — in fact, approximately 100 have been received since Aug. 1. Hary added that Ingredion officials “look forward to resuming negotiations as soon as possible. We have proposed alternative meeting options and stand ready to continue to bargain in good faith toward a new agreement.” The union called a strike Aug. 1 over wages, overtime and health care benefits, among other issues. No further meetings between Ingredion and the union have been scheduled. It seems a utility-scale solar moratorium is in Linn County's near future. The Linn County Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the Board of Supervisors approve the moratorium. The commission voted 6-0 to recommend approval during its meeting on Monday night. The proposed moratorium, if approved, would be in effect for 12 months, or whenever the code is changed if it's sooner. A moratorium would allow current projects already approved to continue, but the county would not be accepting new applications during the time period. The main sentiment behind the moratorium appears to be that the country needs to consider if its solar power procedures and implementation are as good as they could be. “Our code language is good language. Most of the jurisdictions that have codes like ours are similar or less robust,” County Planning and Development Director Charlie Nichols said. “Nationally, it is good code. But staff recommends approval (of the moratorium) because we can make it better. My hope is we come out of this with a model not just for Iowa, but all across the nation.” “We've learned a lot and we want to take those lessons and put them in our code,” Nichols said. “We want to look at vegetation under the solar panels, we want to take a closer look at screening. We want a more standardized approach with battery-storage systems because that's not in our code and it needs to be.” More than $2.6 billion of Iowa soybeans and corn will be purchased by Taiwan, according to letters of intent signed during a ceremony at the Iowa Capitol on Tuesday. A trade delegation from Taiwan joined Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa agriculture secretary Mike Naig in signing the informal agreements, which state Taiwan's intent to purchase over the next three years about 100 million bushels of soybeans valued at roughly $2 billion, and 59 million bushels of corn valued at roughly $600 million. According to Randy Miller, president of the Iowa Soybean Association and a soybean farmer, more than...
Whether you're a sales professional or work in another industry, hearing the word ‘no' can get anyone in a negative mindset. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by Harry Spaight, a sales coach and consultant who wants to help every salesperson overcome their fears to find sales success. Why does discouragement affect us so badly? As sellers, we frequently take rejections personally. Even if the sale is rejected for a myriad of reasons, the seller will still assume they are the reason the prospect is not interested in the sale. We make offers through options, just like a fine-dining server. Each time a server makes an option, they expect a rejection. If professional offers can get into the same mindset, we can lead with service in mind. If someone doesn't want your offer, think about what other options might impact their business or be helpful to their work. Sales is a place of service. There are so many choices with what you're selling. Make it easy for a buyer to work with you and you'll find sales naturally coming your way. Help buyers quantify their pains. Don't encourage someone to purchase your product if the pain is not enough to justify the purchase - it results in remorse for the product. People will solve their problems one way or another. If you can provide benefits in addition to a solution, you'll give long-term value the buyer can't supply themselves. Sales isn't a numbers game; it's a skills game. If you believe sales is a numbers game, you do a poor job with the person in front of you to get to the easy yes. Dig deep and find the prospect's challenges to determine if they're a viable candidate for the product. There are numbers tied to sales that are important. However, the numbers shouldn't be at the expense of the conversations with the prospects in front of you. Hary's major takeaway? Serve the person across from you, and good things will happen. His book, Selling with Dignity, and his podcast, Sales Made Easy, discuss the standards of selling with service in mind. This episode is brought to you in part by Scratchpad. They are the closest thing the internet has to a giant cage match between nearly every language and framework out there. The benchmarks have a suite of tests, such as run 20 queries on a page and output some data, and every language and framework implements the same logic in their syntax and style. The tests literally take days to run in full and spin up each combination of language and framework in docker containers where they are hammered with oodles of traffic and then the juicy stats are recorded for sweet graphical comparisons.https://community.ortussolutions.com/t/how-does-cfml-really-perform-compared-to-other-languages/9325 INTO THE BOX - Updates1 month left to the start of the Pre-Conf, the Workshop and 2 days of 2 track content. Read along to practice your English and to learn the English terms A POWER TRIP and A GUILT TRIPIn this English lesson I wanted to help you learn the English term a power trip. A power trip is when someone who is your boss, or in authority over you, starts to use that authority sometimes in a bad way. This can happen once in a while when someone is a new boss, they might go on a power trip. They might decide that they're allowed to tell everyone what to do. They can do whatever they want. They can make you come into work early and work late. They just go on a power trip. So it's when someone in authority, like a boss, decides to use that authority to tell other people what to do. It's not nice when someone goes on a power trip.WANT FREE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"If you enjoy these lessons please consider supporting me at: http://www.patreon.com/bobthecanadianThe second phrase I wanted to teach you today is a guilt trip. A guilt trip is when someone makes you feel guilty in order to convince you to do something. I don't want to name names, but there are people in certain families of mine who will give you a guilt trip if you say you can't come to a family event. Sometimes there's a family event planned, and you're not able to attend, and they will say, oh, you didn't come last year and the year you came two years ago, you only stayed for one hour. It'd be really nice if you could come. That's called a guilt trip. So they're making you feel bad. They're making you feel guilty because you're not doing something. It's not very nice when someone gives you a guilt trip.So to review: A power trip is when someone who is your boss, or in authority, starts to tell everyone what to do and they're not very nice about it. And a guilt trip is when someone makes you feel guilty in order to convince you to do something. By the way, they can both be used as verbs as well. You know, he was power tripping yesterday or don't guilt trip me, I told you, I'm not able to come.Anyways, let's look at a comment from a previous video. This comment is from Hary300. Bob. I am wondering how you started learning about gardening. Were you an agriculture student in college? And my response, no. Jen and I did both grow up on farms however, you could say it's in our family. So thanks Hary for that comment. Yes, Jen and I both grew up on dairy farms. I think I've told many of you before this large barn behind me used to be a dairy barn. When I was a kid, this barn was filled with cows and my parents were dairy farmers. So we milked cows. This is actually the elevator where we would put hay up into the hay loft. But yeah, this is definitely where I grew up. Jen also grew up on a dairy farm. So we both grew up knowing what it meant to take care of animals, but also knowing a little bit about how to grow crops. So Hary, that's what's given us a little bit of insight into how to farm. We didn't grow up on flower farms but we understand fertility and irrigation and how to use equipment. I know how to drive a tractor. I've been driving a tractor since I was about 10 years old. I still remember the first time I drove a tractor. It was quite a bit of fun. Anyways, wo we grew up on farms. Actualmente pertenecen a conglomerados franceses.
