Louise Post of Veruca Salt pays YMAAA a visit to talk about Kate Bush's 1985 album, Hounds of Love. Louise explains why Hounds of Love is one of her favorite albums, how Kate Bush was something of an acquired taste for her and which tracks on the album are the most special to her. The conversation also frequently turns to The Beatles and Post Malone, and Louise talks about how she wound up teaching music in the L.A. public schools. She also discusses the writing and recording process for her upcoming solo album, Sleepwalker, and the band she has assembled for her tour.Al referenced an interview that Louise and Nina Gordon did for the Women in Rock Oral History Project. You can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju8QAzTGC-8.Al's memory of Kate Bush's appearance on Saturday Night Live was inaccurate, even though he said he was “99 percent sure” he remembered it correctly. She performed “The Man With the Child In His Eyes” and “Them Heavy People,” and not “Wuthering Heights” and “Babooshka,” as he had remembered. Also, the broadcast was in 1978, and not in 1979 or 1980.Follow Louise on social media! You've just moved from one end of the planet to the other. You're pregnant. And you want to be working. What do you do?It's a sad indictment on how the workplace still treats pregnancy that for my guest on this #KarmicCapitalist podcast episode, starting a company seemed a more plausible route than finding employment. But start a company while pregnant is what Steph did. She started marketing agency, Hello Earth, and early on set about specialising on companies with a focus on purpose and sustainability. Hello Earth works with them to identify how digital marketing can impact their ESG goals, then sets about helping them make that happen.I found it wonderful that for such a relatively small company, they'd had the confidence to build this into their client qualification process. They've developed their own 7 pillar model that all prospects must pass before Hello Earth will work with them. It's a structured approach, which also allows for direction of travel - meaning demonstrated serious intent to improve in ESG areas, as well as where the prospective client is at today.Lovely episode, and with a lot to take away in terms of what you can do even if you're not yet (and never intend to be) the size of a WPP.I love the trajectory that Steph and Hello Earth are on. I suspect we'll hear a lot more from them in the coming few years.I host a weekly workshopping conversation with CEOs of SMEs (10 to 100 employees approx) about scaling up, allowing them to step back and do more strategic work, and doing this all in line with their values. Maximum 4 per session so we can have a real conversation. If you'd like to join me for a conversation, find a date that works for you here.Only CEOs / MDs as above. Peer-level conversation!
RATE BUSH! What are your most favorite and least-loved songs on Kate Bush's Hounds of Love? Three months before some very strange things catapulted Miss Bush into a new generation's consciousness, Sam had us sit down to dissect an album that most purists wouldn't dare break into separate parts. While Adam went overboard (groan) researching the second side's epic Ninth Wave song story, newbies Dan and Jim obliviously took it in like men with children in their eyes...or something. Guest rankers include keyboard guru and Abbey Road expert Brian Kehew (Moog Cookbook, The Who, Prince and more) and San Diego Music Award winner Marie Haddad from the world's greatest coverband, Baby Bushka. Today's conversation is with Phil Kiel, who is the UK managing director of Hello Earth - an eCommerce Digital Marketing Agency with a conscience. I have known and worked with the awesome humans at Hello Earth since its inception and now, I'm so proud of the partnership that Earth Collective has with this forward-thinking agency, which trademarked the term USSP - Unique Sustainable Selling Point - to recognise just how important sustainability is to modern businesses. Hello Earth walks its talk. It's a B-Corp certified, net zero business, with a climate positive workforce that puts its impact strategy front and centre on its website. Phil is an absolute guru in paid social and we covered a lot of ground in today's episode, including… What on earth was all that business with iOS14? How to navigate Facebook audiences, especially now keywords like 'sustainability' have been removed from interest targeting. The moral dilemma we all face when we see the likes of Patagonia boycotting Facebook advertising. Dealing with imposter syndrome and running your own race. And the question of the hour - should we ALL be using TikTok? To connect with Phil and learn more about the Green Growth Project, head to https://www.greengrowthproject.com. Couldn’t have planned this episode any better! With guest Emily Reese (Level With Emily, Jazz88, Scores & Pours), we ring in our show’s new name with entries from two of the most original artists of any generation: Björk’s 2017 electronic fantasy “Utopia” and Kate Bush’s untouchable “Hounds of Love”. In both, we find forward-thinking musicians at the peak of their craft with creative freedom and the technical skill to bring storytelling, emotional soundscapes, and grand ideas to life. Our community questions get us talking about how hearing game soundtracks before playing the game made us think differently of the music, the weirdest stuff in our music collection, and more – then it’s time for our community song, which takes us behind the Iron Curtain for some more experimental pop by European women... To jump to a particular discussion, check out the timestamps below… 14:29 - “Arisen My Senses” 19:58 - “Blissing Me” 23:47 - “The Gate” 31:54 - “Utopia” 35:28 - “Claimstaker” 39:12 - “Losss” 41:59 - “Tabula Rasa” 44:33 - “Paradisia” 49:33 - “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” 54:19 - “Hounds of Love” 57:03 - “Mother Stands for Comfort” 1:00:19 - “Cloudbusting” 1:07:13 - “Under Ice” 1:09:41 - “Watching You Without Me” 1:14:16 - “Jig of Life” 1:17:13 - “Hello Earth” 1:22:27 - “The Morning Fog” 1:26:58 - Community questions 1:41:07 - Community song (“Не рядом” by Колибри, suggested by MinnMax supporter Jason Wojnar) Follow Emily Reese on Twitter at @LevelWithEmily, listen to Level with Emily Reese and Scores & Pours wherever you get podcasts, and listen to Jazz88 at jazz88.fm Support MinnMax on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/minnmax/ CrossFade Episode Playlist: https://spoti.fi/2vgqfvK CrossFade Community Playlist: https://spoti.fi/3aRRgox (edited)

February 25th 2013 - Hello Earth men and women.... we’re so lucky & happy we’re still here! Asteroid 2012DA14 passed Earth at only 27,700KMs distance, dear Spacemusic friends. Listen to this episode to hear the best music that illustrates not only our well deserved survival but the earlier meteorite crash in Russia as well. Kind of funny when you think about it... 10,000 tons of mass entering the atmosphere, shockwave releasing 500 kilotons of energy, the power equivalent to more than 50 Hiroshima bombs, 20,000 people searching, finally found this ice hole being 8 meters in diameter (50 feet according to others) At least 53 fragments confirmed to have come from space have been plucked from the ice-covered Chebarkul Lake. More to be discovered. We guess? This episode might help you to relax and see the perspectives. We start in Mulhouse (East France) for the Ultimae LIVE event featuring CIRCULAR and SCANN-TEC amongst other great electronica artists. The Nuit Hypnotique #4 is recorded and released! Super music, from super people. Makes you realize how tiny we are and how big Asteroids can be... ;-) Marconi Union, the British musical trio formed in 2002, treats us with Sleepless. Electronica ambient meets organic instrumentation. What a fantastic experience this is! Also check out the documentary video embedded at our site under the Spotted Video section. Sounds from the Ground plays the track called Razz; wide, groovy, trippy & ambitious music. Do listen using headphones and you’ll immediately understand their ((((((( mixing skills ))))))) We have reached the no-stress level now; listen to the arrival of the Asteroid DA14 featuring the music by SCANN-TEC playing @ The Morpheus in Mulhouse again. Speaking of mixing... Vladislav Isaev knows how to give a song a twist just before the end, making you feel weightless 100%. Solar Fields and Sonnie Mishki... Sol and Lost Planet are certainly tracks you will never forget; mysterious, intriguing, beautiful melodies and warm pads, gently filling your room with modern ambient explorations. Yes, you are under hypnosis now sol.... .... time for meeting the Kings of Samples as we call them: Future Sound Of London. Listening to them for 20 years now (!) we invite you to explore Environments part II. Have a look around, be surprised by the variety of sounds, the scenes you experience, the no-turning-back attitude. 5 out of 5 stars. Check them out newcomers! Syngate.net with the amazing Michael Brückner; the final track for this show guarantees you 100% space and asteroid satisfaction... this one is released as the Luna series project by Syngate. Eleventh Sun by Michael Brückner is one of those albums that you will play not just once.... but every time you don’t wanna be present with both feed on the ground. Totally Cool! Totally Spacemusic! And so we say: it’s a pleasure being online with this podcast now for 8 years! Remember the theme we used to play back then? You do? Quizzz Time - Let us know when exactly this theme was heard on the podcast .... Send your answer to our Gmail account and the winner gets a free Spacemusic album of our choice! In 1995, a crew of men were launched into space to find the end of the space. Fifteen years later they've cracked the edge of the Universe and are down to the last two crew members left. Join Captain Gus Bronson and his navigator Ned Filmore as they grapple with the loneliness of space and the consequences of tearing holes in the fabric of space and time.
