I'll never forget the first time I heard our guest today, Brigette Harenda, President of B&Co. It was about a decade ago, and she was at a conference recounting the story of creating the Iron Horse Hotel - which I found fascinating because she became a hotel owner almost by accident during the Great Financial Crisis of 2008 - and has created hit after hit in hospitality since then.In this episode, you'll learn why you should care about branding, why it's much more than you might think it includes - and the process she uses to help hospitality providers create a brand and guest experience that stands out, creates loyalty, and inspires people to tell others - all of which, of course, helps your business thrive. This episode with Jessica Myers was powerful! The turning point for Jessica was when she got her 5-year plaque to recognize her years of service at her job. She also noticed someone receiving a 20 year plaque at the same job. At that moment, she decided that chasing a 20-year plaque was not the path she wanted to pursue. It was perfect timing because she attended a real estate conference shortly after where she learned about wholesaling. Starting out as a wholesaler allowed her to develop her ability to find and analyze deals. With the help of a mentor, she was able to close her first four deals. Starting off with wholesaling allowed her to build up the next egg that helped her to leave her job. From there she got into AirBnb rentals, revitalizing communities in Brunswick, Georgia, additional real estate investments and more. Next on Jessica's goal list was hotel ownership. She reconnected with her friend, Davonne Reaves and decided to pursue their goal of hotel ownership. Their firm closed on a $8.3 million dollar hotel in El Reno, Oklahoma which is two hours away from Tulsa, Oklahoma. In this episode, we discuss hotel ownership, getting started in real estate, future plans and more. How to find herIG- @itsjessicamyersHighlights1) Never give a contractor all of the money for a job upfront. Make sure you have a good contract in place. 2) When looking for real estate opportunities, follow where the jobs are. If there are consistent jobs in the area, that is one indicator that it can make a good investment.3) If you're interested in hotel ownership or real estate, make sure to network as much as possible. Being obsessive about the details and committed to creating a unique and welcoming guest experience. It's all about the small moments, so it is important that everyone feels empowered to be able to change a guest experience in a positive way. It's surprising what small detail or kindness can make a hotel a traveler's favorite experience. Never take your guests for granted. Be unrelenting. Things don't get ignored from an operational standpoint. Truly listen to every guest review and survey and have leadership respond personally to every complaint. Kindness goes a long way to change someone from a state of stress to a state of relaxation. In this season, we take a look at the stories making the headlines and ask, “Is this case for real? How did the employer get away with that? And what is the law behind the headlines?” In this episode, Michelin-starred chef is dismissed for letting his two young boys play football in his restaurant during a private party for friends and family. Simon and Jack discuss the case of Williams v The Westbury Hotel Limited. Mr William’s sons kick a ball around the restaurant in a make-shift football pitch, wrestle with each other and drink tabasco sauce from the bottle. But was the dismissal fair? Listen to this podcast to find out. We also hear a few food-related puns, some Tony Soprano impressions and a (really old) knock knock joke.
