Your value is in your words, not in the way you look. Gracie Pascale is a registered dietitian nutritionist who is an expert on plant-based nutrition and anti-inflammatory diets. Grace has a mission: to help others find healing and vitality with the right food. In this episode, she speaks her mind about food and nutrition. She also gives tips for those who want to convert to a plant-based diet. Finding Passions Grace suffered from anorexia when she was 17. Going through recovery, she realized how mental and physical health influence each other. Grace also saw the importance of the food psychology business to improve the quality of life. Learning this made her find her purpose: to be a registered dietitian. Grace wanted to help others recover from eating disorders like what she went through. Passion for nutrition was the seed that grew roots. As it grew, Grace's passion branched out to sustainability. She became interested in environmental clubs, veganism, and food production. Eventually, Grace turned passions into fields of expertise in her work. Now, she champions wellness through nutrition and coping strategies. Passion was the fuel for Grace to keep going, and it is all thanks to her teenage experience that led her to where she is. Everything Goes Back to Nutrition Food affects everything in the body. The problem lies in biased researches spreading misconceptions. Grace revealed that the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics favors large food companies. Corporate sponsorships make sure that their products are deemed to have nutritional value. The politics involved within the Academy and these corporations is a red flag for the public. Misinformation confuses everyone while corporations secure revenue. To correct this, Grace is eager to research without bias. Through unbiased research, accurate conclusions are drawn. Examples would be the connection of nutrition to inflammation, heart health, and dermatology. Grace believes that nutrition must be a top priority. About Grace Pascale: Grace Pascale is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a life's mission to help others find healing and vitality by reforming their relationships to food and their bodies. She does this by encouraging “divorces from diet culture,” teasing out the confusing and often contradictory information surrounding nutrition, and educating her patients on the importance of eating whole foods in abundance. Grace's areas of expertise include plant-based nutrition, eating disorder recovery, chronic disease prevention, and anti-inflammatory diets. She has a Master of Science in Whole Foods Nutrition, a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and experience working with various patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, including long-term care, private practice, and a level 3 trauma center. She is passionate about the health and happiness of her clients and offers a balanced approach to wellness, providing evidence-based research in a digestible manner, and carefully assessing readiness for change.   Outline of the Episode: [02:16] Who is Gracie? [06:19] Becoming a registered dietician and nutritionist specialized in plant-based food [12:18] How veganism changed Grace and her colleagues [19:35] Advice for vegans about controversial evidence [21:15] Drawing connection between food and skin health [26:23] Experience in managing her own business [29:44] How Grace manages to create work-life balance [33:10] Empowering working women through transparency [36:33] What raising a family with plant-based nutrition looks like [40:28] Values that come along with veganism [43:04] Advice for people who want to shift to a plant-based diet   Resources: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/babybychickpeas/  Website: https://www.gracepascalenutrition.com/  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbBm4JvHilop81u18Zv52pQ    Connect with Natalie! How Grace sold close to 100 sessions in under 24 hours. What it was that caused her to consider hypnotherapy for herself and the 'miracle' that changed everything. What distinguishes her hypnotherapy and her programs from the rest. How Hypnotherapy accesses the critical Theta Brain state of our sub-conscious. The hardest thing about being a hypnotherapist - even with life-changing results and amazing success. How she practices self-hypnosis. Why many of the sessions at her practice are MORE effective over the phone. What Grace would do differently if she could go back and start her business again. What she would do if they had the capital - AND Roland’s better idea! “I have no doubt Hypnosis will be mainstream and it will become a billion-dollar industry. It’s more effective than meditation, yoga, and psychotherapy at changing lives…and all three of those are billion-dollar industries…so all hypnosis has is a PR issue, an understanding of what Hypnosis is.” Grace Smith Click to visit our website or find us on Apple Podcasts and other podcast players. With more than 110,000 followers on Instagram, it's safe to say Grace, who is also a multiple-time marathoner, has made it as a successful full-time blogger and influencer — but that was never the goal or the plan, and when she first dove head-first into full-time blogging, Grace was embarrassed to own the title. But now, not only does she own it, she's also vocal about the hard work that goes into this lifestyle. (Turns out, it's not all glamorous photo shoots and exotic press trips.) On this episode, Grace talks about shifting her career from marketing at P&G to late nights at BaubleBar to a Gossip Girl-inspired DIY site that eventually became a six-figure business. She talks about learning the business side of blogging, about what takes up most of her time (hint: "Where's that from?"), and about everything you ever wanted to know about the lives of your favorite Instagrammers and bloggers. Grace Steckler is literally a saving grace to hundreds of pet owners in Washington, DC. Founded in 2000, Saving Grace Pet Care has grown to be a thriving business with 25 employees and three franchises. In addition to Grace turning her business into one of the most successful pet care companies in Washington, DC, she has also owned a cleaning company and a handyman service. Being an entrepreneur has brought about many challenges, some great accomplishments, and a great sense of personal satisfaction for Grace. It has also allowed her to remain a stay at home mom to her three children, to travel, and to have a freedom that would be difficult to attain otherwise. Grace has taken a very interesting path in life with several twists and turns. She has combined many different life experiences from living as a nun, to teaching high school science, to traveling abroad, to running her own pet care business. She took lessons she learned from each of these experiences to create a highly successful business. Her teaching background has allowed her to easily keep her furry clients and team on task while others often struggle to stay calm and in control. Her love of travel, new languages, and cultures keeps her motivated to put lots of systems and processes in place to keep her business running efficiently without her. It’s broken down to a science at this point - no pun intended. In this episode Britt and Grace go into great detail on what it was like for Grace to franchise her business. Saving Grace Pet Care’s key to success is focusing on caring for it’s large team of 25 employees. This includes making sure they all have a healthy work life balance, are compensated very well, and are allowed to thrive on their own terms while still working effectively within the team and the franchise. The name of the game is “Win-Win”. Grace wants each of her employees to feel empowered and part of a larger mission, which has allowed her to keep many team players around for many years. Grace believes that the happier your team is the smoother your business runs. She shows her appreciation in many different ways. For example, randomly during the cold winter months she’ll email each of her team members a Starbucks gift card with a note thanking them for all their hard work. Franchising is something only a few brave souls ever tackle during their business endeavors. Grace goes into great detail on the pros and cons of franchising, what your business goals need to be in order for the cost of franchising to be worth the investment, and how she targets areas to open new franchises. For Grace, her franchising journey started with a few google inquires, several interviews with many franchise lawyers, and then a lot of pain staking paperwork that took a year to get in order. In the end it was all worth it. She felt that empowering her team not as managers, but as business owners with the most mutually beneficial outcome for both her and each individual business owner. Franchising was the perfect blend of business, teaching, and freedom for the Saving Grace team. In this episode you’ll learn: - How Grace went from a 12 year career as a nun teaching high schoolers to becoming a business owner - How she carried over skills from previous career as a teacher to her pet care business - How to clearly communicate the job’s ins and outs to new hires and what that teaching process looks like - How allowing her managers to work remotely has caused them to feel empowered and stay with the company long term. - How implementing a win-win strategy in her company has created long term happy employees - How to go from a single business to a franchise - How to find help with hiring through Jazz HR. - How to know if franchising is a good fit for you - How changing locations can keep you from burning out. - How she integrates her business into her family life which allows her job to feel less like work and more like life.

“When you have this big moment of failure - when you don’t accomplish what you were going after, you have to take time to re-evaluate your strategy for the next time!” I am so impressed with Olympians, and it doesn’t matter if they medal or not. The amount of time and dedication needed to compete once every four years, often for just a few seconds, is an extraordinary example of perseverance, determination and grit. My guest on the Make Your Mark podcast today, Grace Luczak, is a prime example of a high achiever who adopted a new sport, set a world record, and has transitioned into the corporate world. “The simple gestures in life when doing something good and selfless for somebody else without expecting anything in return can be the most impactful moments.” As a young teen I dreamed of competing for the Egyptian Ski Team (not a typo, and a story for another time!), but happily for all, I went a different direction. Grace had heard that many schools were looking at young ladies with her physical and mental skills to become rowers on collegiate crew teams.  Both during and after her time at Stanford University, and years of hard work, Grace set a new world record, and qualified for the Rio Olympics! But best of all, she understood that she needed to be prepared for her post-Olympic life, and was able to land an impressive job where she is today. “Sometimes your biggest weakness can be your greatest strength” You will truly enjoy this episode, as Grace is such an easy-going person to speak with. We talk about all the training she went through, the successes that started to pile up, the ups and downs of being an Olympian, and how grit plays a big part in life. You will also appreciate Grace’s volunteer work with an organization that brings rowing to kids coming from neighborhoods that would never see any sort of rowing. Sit back and listen to an uplifting and inspiring episode!
