Earned: Strategies and Success Stories From the Best in Beauty + Fashion
In Episode 17 of Earned, Conor talks with Julia Straus, CEO of popular British activewear brand Sweaty Betty. Conor and Julia begin their conversation with a discussion of COVID-19's impact on retail (which they firmly believe is “not dead”), and the pivots Sweaty Betty has made to adapt to the changing landscape. We then take a few steps back and learn more about why Julia first decided to pursue an MBA, and hear about her experience at popular jewelry brand BaubleBar. Conor and Julia then dive into why Julia sought to join the Tula team at the skincare brand's conception and how she helped “build everything from scratch.” Julia shares Tula's early approach to influencer marketing, and reveals the strategies that powered the brand's success. They then switch gears to Sweaty Betty: Julia discusses what makes the brand different from the competition in the activewear space and why its female-empowerment focus first drew Julia to the role. As the head of a 700+ person company, Julia shares her leadership philosophies and her lessons learned from leading in a newly remote working culture. Finally, we learn how influencer marketing strategies differ between beauty and apparel, and Julia explains why Sweaty Betty prioritizes consistent, long-term partnerships with creators.

Most women find themselves, at one time or another, looking for the perfect accessory to compliment that special outfit, or maybe they’re simply strolling through a store with a friend and want to treat themselves to something sparkly. Finding the right look at the right price point is often harder than it needs to be. It was in this sort of conundrum that Daniella Yacobovsky found herself, wanting a little flash but not wanting to break the bank. She and her friend, Amy Jain, were wandering around a store discussing this very subject. They became friends while working in finance, then found themselves attending Harvard Business School in the same class. A casual conversation about jewelry soon became a business plan, and BaubleBar was born. Now in its ninth year and carried in major department stores throughout the country, BaubleBar is proof that inspiration can strike anywhere, anytime! Thanks for listening! We love our listeners! On this episode of PepTalks, we chat with Daniella Yacobovsky, Co-founder of BaubleBar, about the important role brand advocates, influencers and inventive partnerships play to a brands’ success within the affiliate space.
Daniella Yacobovsky the co founder of BaubleBar the go-to online retailer for on-trend jewelry seemed to understand early on that failures she had in her business were just part of the necessary process needed to eventually find success. She built BaubleBar into a major fashion accessories business by failing her way to success. Figuring out the right answers by making the wrong decisions. Even today when she launches new jewelry products its a continual process of testing, failing, learning and growing.

We wear so many hats in our lives, or shall I say, outfits - as mothers, entrepreneurs, stay at home moms, and working moms. Now the trend has become to embrace these roles while we look and feel our best. Today I have two of my friends and stylists with me - Jasmine Snow and Liz Teich. Jasmine Snow is a Fashion and Accessories Editor, Creative Consultant and On-Air style expert in New York City. She has over 10 years of experience in fashion market, editorial development and curiating exclusive content for major fashion brands. She developed strong relationships with some of the industry's leading stylists, photographers and creative directors as well as discovering the new generation of design stars. Jasmine creates and conceptualizes co-branded editorial partnerships with celebrities, fashion tastemakers and global brands such as ShopBop, ShoeDazzle, Bauble Bar, Kendall & Kylie, and while also consulting on editorial projects for leading print and digital brands such as Glamour Magazine, People Magazine, People's Style Watch, Elle, InStyle, Barney's New York and Tommy Hilfiger. Jasmine is known for her insider advice and extensive knowledge in fashion, styling and pop culture. Her expertise on Millennials along with her approachable sense of fashion has led her to become a style expert appearing regularly on E! News, Extra, MTV, Seventeen Magazine's YouTube Channel, Good Morning America and as a judge on Lifetime's Project Runway: THREADS. Liz Teich is a NY-based fashion stylist, lifestyle blogger and mom to her toddler son with a baby on the way. Her blog, The New York Stylist, covers affordable wardrobe ideas, advice on motherhood, fitness, home decor trends and a behind the scenes look at the fashion industry. Liz has been a professional stylist for over a decade. She works on print and digital advertising campaigns for major brands including Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Target, Lane Bryant, Netflix, Alex & Ani. She has appeared on-camera as a style expert for Rent The Runway, White House Black Market as well as a recurring fashion & lifestyle expert on Good Day New York. Other press include Glamour, Instyle, Women’s Health, Huffington Post. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both Jasmine and Liz. This is one of those life hacks that I’m like oh my gosh how have I not learned and implemented this sooner- so I’m so excited to share it with you. How many times have you talked to people in the month of December and they’re totally frazzled and they’re like… Oh my gosh I haven’t even started or oh my gosh I’m so stressed I’m only halfway through or they’re going to the crowded mall every weekend and their stress and fighting with their spouse and taking all the fun out of holidays. Today we’re going through all the steps that you need to take NOW to plan your holiday gift giving and how to do it from the comfort of your own home a month ahead of time. Then when you’re shopping in December it’s just a pick up those little extras or to be social… It’s not this stressing experience that we’re all used to. Today we’re talking about how to be awesome at doing all of your holiday shopping during Black Friday week. Links to awesome things referenced in this episode: Custom phone cases from Baublebar or Casetify The new square Polaroids If you want something pricey there's nothing better than the DYSON blow dryer.. and at Nordstrom right now they have a special set that includes a cool stand for it! I'm OBSESSED with Simplehuman bathroom mirrors… they come in all sizes from travel to massive… I love the rose gold in between one… it has a sensor light on it so it turns on when you walk up and it’s basically the best thing in my bathroom. I always love the MAC make-up sets - I think they are just a great deal and always have a variety of fun colors that are easy to gift- and for the right person - a cool make-up gift is the best! I absolutely love giving personalized gifts when possible… And Black Friday is such a good time to do this… Maybe it's a backpack or a purse with an embroidered name from Pottery Barn Kids… Or a custom cosmetic bag with your friends name on it from Stony Cloverfield… Or a super cute custom necklace with your friends name on it or maybe even their kids names from Bauble Bar… Pottery Barn Stoney Clover Lane Bauble Bar
Don't tell Drake, but bling doesn't always have to be so pricy. BaubleBar has raised millions from investors confident in its business model of delivering stylish earrings, necklaces, and rings at affordable prices. The company sells its products online, and in over 17 countries via 200 retailers -- some of which, like Target, the company teamed up with to create exclusive lines. "We had been doing our research on the market and felt that there was a huge opportunity at a lower price point than where the main BaubleBar brand sat," says Daniella Yacobovsky, the company's co-founder. That's where Target came in. Yacobovsky also talks about the consumer opportunities opened up by affordable accessories, the data goldmine BaubleBar sits on, and what a difference Julia Roberts can make.

On being out at a bar with a cute guy? Do not congratulate me for having a boyfriend!" Grace Atwood is the creator of the wildly popular blog The Stripe and the co-host of the Bad on Paper podcast. With more than 110,000 followers on Instagram, it's safe to say Grace, who is also a multiple-time marathoner, has made it as a successful full-time blogger and influencer — but that was never the goal or the plan, and when she first dove head-first into full-time blogging, Grace was embarrassed to own the title. But now, not only does she own it, she's also vocal about the hard work that goes into this lifestyle. (Turns out, it's not all glamorous photo shoots and exotic press trips.) On this episode, Grace talks about shifting her career from marketing at P&G to late nights at BaubleBar to a Gossip Girl-inspired DIY site that eventually became a six-figure business. She talks about learning the business side of blogging, about what takes up most of her time (hint: "Where's that from?"), and about everything you ever wanted to know about the lives of your favorite Instagrammers and bloggers. And let’s face it, we all have to pay the bills, so getting a job with a steady paycheck is a goal…but how do we find jobs that can adapt to our health struggles, work with colleagues that are healthy/able-bodied, and still rock our activism lives? And Molly has gone through it all, internships, the job hunt, interviews and landing a position, so she’s ripe with information to pass along! In this episode, Molly and Dominique talk about the best talking tips when you’re asked about your illness/disability on an interview or with coworkers, the reason knowing LOTS of people get rejected on interviews can help you grow, how to find your voice in the workforce as someone with health struggles, discuss the stigmas young people with illness/disability face when looking for jobs and lay out ways to challenge those stigmas by showing your capability, fangirl over University of Oregon and Nike with our pop culture moment, advise you on the pros and cons of working with healthy/able-bodied people when your illness/disability is visible vs invisible, and highlight the guidebook essentials for getting that work-health balance, hustling for a cool resume, and finding job postings that are accessible, virtual and inclusive wherever you live. As the co-founders of BaubleBar, Amy Jain and Daniella Yacobovsky know what it means to build a business with your best friend. They first met while working in investment banking before both getting accepted to Harvard Business School. The idea for BaubleBar came to them while working on a class project and after graduation, the company officially launched in 2011. The business quickly scaled to amass over 1500 orders per day and their brand can be found in 200 retailers around the world. On this episode, Amy and Daniella open up about deciding to launch BaubleBar instead of pursuing the jobs they had lined up after graduation, the downside of raising too much money when you're a founder, and why they believe their friendship has been a key driver in BaubleBar's success.
Daniella Yacobovsky, the co-founder of the rapidly growing e-commerce company BaubleBar, is transforming the way women shop for jewelry and accessories. With its “fast fashion” approach to women's jewelry, BaubleBar provides its customers with on-trend products at an affordable price. Evidently, it's working: Daniella and her co-founder, Amy Jain — who both come from investment banking backgrounds — raised $20 million in funding during their Series C round in 2016. The two have been recognized by Inc., Fast Company, and TechCrunch, among others, as the “Most Influential Female Founders.” We invited Daniella into the studio to hear about the initial startup days of BaubleBar, the process of raising significant venture-capital funding, how they scaled without hampering their entrepreneurial spirit, and more.
It’s Gio’s Birthday-sode! And listen. It’s a doozy. Em covers the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, which once housed a circus-builder who “cured” cancer with watermelon seeds and is haunted by a ghost who does NOT wear capris. Meanwhile, Christine gets ~timely~ (and pretty graphic) with her coverage of Edmund Kemper III, the mofo featured in Netflix’s recent drama Mindhunter. And that is most definitely why we drink. We received an overwhelming amount of discussion from listeners about sexual harassment and assault. We've learned a lot and continue the conversation in today’s episode. Thank you to our sponsors for this episode: BaubleBar, Away, and ModCloth. To support Pantsuit Politics, please visit our Patreon page and rate, subscribe, and review the podcast on the Apple Podcast Player. We discuss the horrific ambush of US troops in Niger and try to provide some context to military engagement in western Africa. While details are still emerging about what took place, the President's team seems more engaged in a battle with Sgt. La David Johnson's family than in confronting the difficult intelligence and foreign policy questions implicated. Next, we turn to the legislature. We talk about the bipartisan work Senators Murray and Alexander are doing on healthcare and the wholly partisan approach Congressional Republicans are taking to tax cuts and the federal budget. For our compliments to the other party, Sarah compliments Former President George W. Bush for his recent remarks on civility in our discourse. Beth compliments Former President Jimmy Carter for his willingness to engage with North Korea in order to prevent escalating conflict. Because of the overwhelming feedback we received in response to our discussion of Mayim Bialik's New York Times editorial, we resume the discussion of sexual assault and harassment, sharing the lessons we have learned over the past week. We also share a message from a listener who came to understand after the fact that he engaged in non-consensual sex with a woman in college and offered up his learnings from that experience about what men must do to stop the violence. We end, as always, with what's on our minds outside of politics. Beth weighs in on personality types following

Russian agents bought Facebook ads targeted to voters in crucial swing states in last years elections, and the implications of the attention economy on our democracy go far beyond 2016. We focus on Facebook, Twitter, and the devices we use to distract ourselves from discomfort. Thanks so much to the sponsors for this episode: Baublebar, ModCloth, and Virtue Labs. We start today's podcast discussing an article on why mass shootings tend to be committed by men. We also talk about the Harvey Weinstein story and the bizarrely partisan reactions to that story. We note that the transactional nature of masculine energy seems to be taking shape in the spat that Donald Trump is having with Senator Bob Corker. To compliment the other party, Sarah commends Senator Dean Heller and other Republicans who have urged ATF to review standards on the sale of bump stocks. Beth compliments Senator Dianne Feinstein for her long-term service and work on gun safety measures. For our feature topic, we discuss why Facebook, Twitter, and Google are so effectively and perhaps unintentionally transforming our politics and brains. In our discussion, we cite the following resources: How Information Overload Robs Us of Our Creativity Our Minds Can Be Hijacked Mindful Resistance The Attention Economy and the Demise of the Middle Ground Pema Chodron on Dunzi Realizd app We end, as always, with what's on our minds outside of politics. Both of us are thinking about clearing space to make room for things that make us better. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

To top it off, the winner receives a $100,000 grand prize to elevate their business and brand.BIOGRAPHY :Actress Alyssa Milano has spent almost her entire life in the public eye. A famous child actor, she has continued to work throughout her adulthood in both television and film. Currently, Alyssa is the host and a judge on Lifetime's “Project Runway All Stars,” alongside judges Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. The new season of the show is set to return in the first quarter of 2016. Alyssa has a history of starring in long running successful television series. She starred on the hit WB series “Charmed” for nine years. The series' debut was the highest-rated premiere in the network's history, and continued to be a great success for Spelling and The WB. The show's international appeal has brought it to more than 100 territories around the world, spanning Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. She also starred on the Fox cornerstone series “Melrose Place.” She began her career on ABC's “Who's the Boss” which aired for eight years. Alyssa had a recurring role on the hit NBC comedy, “My Name is Earl,” and starred in the ABC comedy, “Romantically Challenged.” Alyssa also starred in the ABC series, “Mistresses.” The sexy drama series followed four women and their sometimes scandalous romantic lives.Alyssa was seen on the big screen in Garry Marshall's “New Year's Eve,” with co-stars Robert DeNiro, Ashton Kutcher, Zac Efron, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hilary Swank and Sarah Jessica Parker and “Hall Pass,” opposite Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis. Alyssa's additional film credits include “Hugo Pool” co-starring Sean Penn and Robert Downey Jr., the Imagine/Universal film, “Fear,” and “Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star.” She provided a lead voice for Disney's sequel to the animated favorite “Lady and the Tramp.” She also starred in and produced the independent film “My Girlfriend's Boyfriend.”Her other role is outside the world of Hollywood, as a philanthropist. UNICEF invited Alyssa, in 2003, to become a National Ambassador, recognizing her charitable work on behalf of children. Her first trip with the organization was to Angola, Africa (May 2004) to see first-hand the issues plaguing the newly liberated country. Alyssa followed that trip with a visit to India in June 2005. She is currently working with UNICEF to educate American youth to the issues crucial to that country's evolution. She has worked on UNICEF's pivotal “Trick or Treat” campaign as an official spokesperson, and has plans to work with UNICEF on numerous projects in the future. International relief work is not new to the actress. Alyssa hosted a photography exhibition and auction in 2002, in Los Angeles raising money for charitable efforts in South Africa. An avid photographer, Alyssa displayed her own work, as well as that of school children from L.A.'s Venice Arts program. The event raised close to $50,000 for Nkosi's Haven, an organization that runs care centers in South Africa for AIDS-afflicted mothers and children. Alyssa was honored for her efforts with a humanitarian award from Sri Chinmoy: The Peace Meditation at the United Nations. It was this work that got the attention of UNICEF executives. The Global Network for Neglected Tropical Disease Control (GNNTDC), an alliance of international partnerships based at the Sabin Vaccine Institute in Washington D.C. and formalized by the Clinton Global Initiative to lead the global effort to treat, control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in the world's poorest countries recently named Alyssa the organization's founding ambassador. Alyssa will continue work to raise awareness of GNNTDC and NTDs among the mainstream media and with the general public. The John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John's Hospital and Health Center and the Associates of Breast & Prostate Cancer Studies presented Alyssa with the Spirit of Hollywood Award in 2004, which honors individuals from the entertainment industry for their personal dedication and commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Alyssa also attended the 2004 Democratic National Convention on behalf of the Creative Coalition and is an avid supporter of MTV's Rock the Vote campaign.Alyssa also has her own clothing, jewelry and eyewear line, TOUCH by Alyssa Milano. Launched in the Spring of 2007, TOUCH was born out of necessity. When Alyssa, an avid baseball fan, went to games, she wanted to wear fan gear to support her team, but found that the product mix offered in the marketplace did not address her everyday fashion needs. She felt women should be able to look stylish while cheering on their favorite team. So, she partnered with G-III Apparel Group and Major League Baseball to design and distribute a line of juniors' ladies MLB apparel. The line is not just for baseball fans anymore. She has joined forces with the NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA, Major League Soccer, Minor League Baseball, The Kentucky Derby and NASCAR, to make TOUCH available to their fans as well. Her book, SAFE AT HOME: Confessions of a Baseball Fanatic (William Morrow), chronicles Alyssa's passion for baseball and how her love for the game has helped shape who she is.She entered the world of graphic novels with the release of “Hacktivist,” a fast-paced cyber-thriller about friendship and freedom in a time of war. The story follows Ed Hiccox and Nate Graft, the young founders of the world's most innovative social media company who moonlight secretly as one of the most notorious black-hat hacker teams on the planet. The second volume was released July 2015. Alyssa is married with a son and a daughter and resides in Los Angeles.
