Today we are going to talk about mentoring–both the formal and informal versions–and our experiences with these. Over the years of her career, Carolyn Cooper-McOuatt has been very involved in setting up mentoring programs through her role as trainer, advisor and coordinator at a local college. These have been quite structured. My personal experiences have been with the more laissez-faire ones and those that just simply came about because... well they just seemed meant to. In this era of so much brain drain, engaging that wisdom and experience as one way to pay-it-forward is something that we are certainly encouraging. And the reverse works. I would cherish the opportunity to be mentored in the areas I struggle... technology perhaps... by those the skills come to more naturally–the generations following behind me in our work worlds. About the Guest – Carolyn Cooper-McOuattCarolyn is the co-founder of the international Grand Connection Networking group, bringing individuals from across the globe together to Connect, Create, and Collaborate. Carolyn contributes a unique blend of four decades business expertise in business planning, teaching, and advising. She brings practical processes and best business practices along with a contagious optimism. She guides and mentors businesses and mastermind groups with the key elements of the Inspired Business Plan. She is dedicated to lead individuals to represent themselves in exceptional ways by being in service from their core values. She supports them to resource and own their service gifts, talents, skills, and expertise. Each business becomes clear about who they are, what they stand for and how they uniquely contribute. She invites each business to make a bigger difference in their client's lives. They become bolder to step up and take new risks with purpose, passion, and integrity. Her clients dream bigger as they define, design, and declare specific goals, objectives, intentions, and actions in their Inspired Business Plan process. Her company is Inspired Business Development. Carolyn's ideal clients are heart centered, eager entrepreneurs who are hungry to grow their business, ready and willing to surrender to what is and let go to lead in their industry. Owners who are pioneers in their industry and want to go where no one has gone before with integrity, drive and conviction. In each coaching and training session, best practices, processes, and principles are discussed to raise the bar (Live above the Line) from mediocrity to greatness. We turned to H.R. 40, a bill under consideration in the House after being passed by committee for the first time in its 30-plus year history since being introduced by Joel's late friend and colleague John Conyers in 1989.In our second hour we were joined by Ted Rall to talk about Vice President Kamala Harris and the migrant crisis. We hit the Washington Post for publishing a puff piece on Harris's crocheting proclivities, how the VP hasn't had a press conference on the topic of the migrant crisis since being picked to head the United States response to it, before turning to the details of American sanctions against Russia coming out this morning before those sanctions are due to be issued later today. In our last hour we were joined by Steve Grumbine to talk about the crimes and legacy of Wall Street financier and convicted Ponzi scheme fund manager Bernie Madoff, who died yesterday in prison while serving his century-plus sentence. This is part of the argument for Reparations for the legacy of Slavery. #HR40  2) Recap Sen. Kamala Harris goes after VP Joe Biden on 40 year old busing policies but doesn't admit most African Americans were against school busing. #KamalaHarris #JoeBiden Why are people mischaracterizing his comments about working with Segregationists in the U.S. Senate?  Even though Sen. Harris is of Jamaican Ancestry on her father's side which "does make her Black", many ask the question, "Is she only Black when it is convenient?"  We give examples.  3) Dr. Salew Ola, 19th Annual African Unity Day on Thurs. In announcing his re-election campaign, US President Donald Trump highlighted many of the same themes of as he has for last couple of years. Speaking to 20,000 supporters in Orlando, Florida, Tuesday night, Trump attacked Hillary Clinton as well as recent polls that show him trailing Democratic contenders. He argued that a vote for any Democrat in 2020 is a vote for the "rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American dream." Conservatives have ridiculed calls for reparations as unnecessary, unworkable and cynical ploys for black votes, and Republicans will almost certainly oppose them and use the House of Representatives hearing on the topic to paint Democrats as left-wing socialists seeking to redistribute the nation's wealth. On Wednesday, members of Congress held a hearing of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties to discuss the legacy of slavery and the role of reparations in correcting what many have called “America's original sin.” Is this the right forum, and are individuals such as Sen. Cory Booker, writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and actor Danny Glover the right people to articulate the salient issues on this topic? In a thorough and damning report on the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi released Wednesday, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions Agnes Callamard concluded, after a nearly six-month investigation, that Khashoggi was the victim of a “deliberate, premeditated execution” and his kidnapping and murder violated international law. She added that Khashoggi may have been tortured. What does it mean for this case going forward?GUESTS:Lee Stranahan — Co-host of Fault Lines on Sputnik Radio.Tom Porter — African American Studies Department at Ohio University and former director of the King Center in Atlanta.Elisabeth Myers — Editor-in-chief of Inside Arabia.

Kicking off Juneteenth Celebrations A Congressional Panel will hold a hearing on the HR 40 Bill which would create a reparations commission to study, document and recommend proposals for reparative justice. Sen. Mitch McConnel disparagingly referred to as Turtle Man, expressed his opposition to reparations for African Americans who come from an American lineage that began in slavery which despite popular opinion, the 13th Amendment provided a loophole for slavers to exploit and continue the practice of enslavement by targeting emancipated Africans and their descendants for the prison industrial complex, modern-day slavery and denying them the full fruits of rights and priveledges affording citizens in the US constitution.

AFRICAN AMERICANS NATIONAL POLITICAL AGENDA 1. Government study on the adverse affect, today, of slavery, Jim Crow and discrimination against African Americans, adverse affect on establishment and accumulation of generational wealth; and the monetary value to beneficiaries of slavery, Jim Crow and discrimination. 2. Reparations is owed and must be rendered to African Americans, descendants of those enslaved beginning approximately in 1619 in, primarily, British, French and Spanish colony territories and what would become the United States of America. 3. To move Reparations Bill HR40 into discussion from committee to a vote in full House. 4. To produce a US Senate Bill equivalent to HR40 in the House. 5. Hard work and free labor should be valued and rewarded, whether it started in 1619 or today. 6. All citizens of the United States must have the right to vote and that right must be protected. 7. Prison reform must include the right for ex-felons who have served their sentences, the right to vote in all states. 8. Constitution of United States must be upheld. 9. Federal laws of United States must be upheld. 10. Government should not intrude in affairs of African American families except where there are violation of laws. 11. The core of families are male, female and children. 12. Life must be respected and protected. 13. Education must be treated with the level of respect and importance of the military. 14. Social and welfare programs must be a means to self sufficiency, not a lifestyle. 15. Courts and police departments must uphold the constitutional rights of African Americans ensuring they are free from 911 calls solely based on racism, that can and has led to the death of African Americans. 16. Government must not use its police force in African American communities like an ATM machine, using police and court systems to supplement budgets. 17. Healthcare for African Americans must be in proportion to the severity of the need as reflected in ethnic comparative studies. 18. Government programs must be accountable and transparent in African American communities. 19. Military must be prepared to defend domestically and abroad. 20. Military veterans must be respected and cared for when in need. 21. African Americans should be encouraged to have social and economic ties with African peoples and countries.
