The party makes final preparations before leaving Drose, with Zechs giving Hoshino a Moonbeam scroll and aboard the Swift Hummingbird, Hoshino and Arguile craft powerful scrolls from the Arcanaloth spellbook, successfully creating several before stopping ahead. Meanwhile, Shanks strikes a deal with the ship's gunner, wagering on Hoshino's skill in exchange for a plastique recipe. Later, Shanks and Greyleaf discuss Greyleaf's transformation and past battles, reflecting on how his choices have shaped him. Their conversation turns to Rig, with Shanks asserting he no longer lives with regrets. Upon landing at the Barrier Range, the party gathers heavy cloaks for the snowy ascent. Zechs struggles with heightened senses due to Malar's influence, but the group supports him. At their destination, Galahad introduces himself as a descendant of “Those That Wandered,” leading to a tense but respectful meeting with the clan leader, Pakia. She recognizes his lineage and invites them to stay for the festival, where they revel in food, drink, and tales of the past. The festivities continue with exhibition matches featuring Arguile, Shanks, and Galahad. While the rogues maneuver strategically, Galahad faces the formidable General Tharia. Initially dominant, Galahad is nearly overcome but summons Khana's Fury to secure victory, earning mutual respect. The celebration escalates with drinking competitions, where Zechs unexpectedly outdrinks Galahad, much to everyone's delight. Shanks later checks in with Greyleaf, who agrees to relay a message to Rig on Shanks' behalf. Their conversation shifts to Glad's patron and the gods' manipulations, hinting at more profound struggles ahead. As the night ends, the group regroups in the morning to plan their next move. Galahad learns more about his ancestors from Pakia, discovering a historical divide caused by an Illithid incursion, leading to his lineage's journey across planes. With goodbyes exchanged, the party sets off toward Nymora, and Zechs shares his suspicions that other children, like him, may have been experimented on by Malar. He enlists Greyleaf's help dealing with Alma, someone linked to their past suffering, while the group urges him to avoid succumbing to vengeance. Before arriving in Nymora, the party detours to Yahnkoshi, where Hoshino finds his home ravaged by Eldertwine. He sees a gruesome sight and remnants of Attros' former guild. He collects a sample and returns to the ship, where the group entrusts it to Greyleaf's ally for study. Back on board, they sort their inventory and strategize new battle formations. Zechs and Shanks compare their bows, contemplating their weapons' more profound mysteries. Upon reaching Nymora, the group disperses for personal errands. Shanks and Greyleaf visit Potions and Lotions so Shanks and Rig can speak about things they wish they had said sooner, and Zechs reunites with his parents briefly to inform them that he and the party will be in town briefly, while the rest secure a single inn room. Their stay becomes luxurious thanks to Hoshino's Magnificent Mansion, offering much-needed respite. As they settle in, they prepare for their next challenge—extracting a god from their companion. There's so much happening, and we pick up with arc 24, “ Where You Come From”. How will the rest of this story unfold? After a night of revelry, drinking games, fights, and celebration, the team wakes up in various locations, some unsure of how they got there. They plan over breakfast as they gather and prepare for their next destination. Afterward, Galahad seeks out Pakia for answers to his questions about his ancestors, “Those Who Wandered,” and the side of the story he would have not heard unless he was there. She goes on to say that during a time of warfare, there was an Illithid incursion starting in the northern reaches of the Range and making its way towards Stargrave. After several defeats, tensions rose within the leadership and those close to it. Those who stayed saw these defeats as strategic and tactical errors on their part, not accounting for extenuating circumstances. While the group that left was under the impression that they were not using the proper amount of force, it was not a question of tactics but of drive and will to defeat these enemies. Eventually, they saw a branch of that chief's family split off and leave. They went out into the Gathering Storm and never returned. Based on what Galahad said, they must have gotten to Granzia via a “soft spot,” which Sloane is known for. However, they often see you transported to another region of the plane, but instead, they were sent to another plane entirely. There was more that led up to that point, but that was the breaking point. However, their departure was seen as an action of stubbornness rather than malice, and Pakia mentions that she can't fault them as they did what was right for their kin, which is what those who stayed were also trying to do. The group then packs up their things, says their goodbyes, and makes the half-day trek back down the mountain to the Swift Hummingbird. Cordell confirms their next destination as Nymora, and the group is off just like that. As they travel, Zechs addresses the group about what the Stone Face told him and tells the group that while he knows that he and his alternates have had aspects of Malar put inside of him, he suspects that he's not the ONLY child who that happened to. He also asks for Greyleaf's help as he might know more through their familiar “friend” Alma. Eventually, Zechs informs Greyleaf that he met her at Salix's hermitage in league with the Constable. He asks Greyleaf plainly if he would like to assist in transitioning her to the afterlife because she needs to pay for what she did, and he wants to ensure nothing like what happened to them happens again. Zechs admits seeing Alma sent his heart pounding in his ears, and he had to do everything he could to satiate the bloodlust from seeping through him. Also, having Malar in his head encouraging and taunting him did not help that ordeal. The party notices how Zechs speaks about Alma; it's almost like what he felt with Arbane back in Invenas, and try to help prevent himself from feeding into Malar's wishes. Zechs accepts what they say and hopes they acknowledge that this isn't a simple black-and-white choice for him to make. We conclude with Shanks asking Glad to help him with his hair when he approaches the topic of her patron, The Protector. He asks where she stands with him, and she tells him that she understands that as a cleric of him, her power is linked to her faith, and while she does not like or respect the Protector currently, she still believes in him. Shanks does his best to make an analogy and paint a picture that the Protector isn't without flaws or faults. She lets Shanks know she is aware of her predicament and moves cautiously and intent as they travel together. She also tells him she appreciates him reaching out to her, and they laugh. There's so much happening, and that's where we pick up… Find out what happens next in this episode of the Medusa's Cascade: Collateral Damage! In the Forgotten Realms setting and in the broader Dungeons & Dragons mythos, few creatures are more feared and reviled than Illithids - more commonly known as Mind Flayers. These tyrannical beings propagate by converting captives of other species; but what's left behind after a person becomes an Illithid? In this episode, Bruce and Caleb examine the events of Baldur's Gate 3 and weigh examples from other media to explore the question of Illithid identity. This week we talk Update 63, Extra Life and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
Picking up where we left off last time: The Tempests recruited the assistance of the pirate known as Suave to help them in taking down the infamous pirate, Shirahama. Brick, Kasumi, and Suave attempted to find out if the mink or the medallion were located in Shirahama's residence in High Tide, but were unsuccessful. They were successful in gaining a tail however. The tailing men's intentions were never discovered as Vanera beat one's nose in with a door with a clever use of Thaumaturgy. After losing their tail, the party decided to visit Yo'HoBold and managed to sneak Pez into investigating Shirahama's ship as “free labor” after Yo'HoBold's services had been requested to fix Shirahama's ship, which had supposedly been in a battle out at sea. Pez tried his best to sabotage her ship, but was met with a very distrustful Owlin known as, The Watchman. Shortly after, the Tempests decided to stop pussyfooting around and set up an ambush for the Takatari pirate. Brick cleverly portrayed himself as the property of Zaan and was almost sold to Shirahama. Using his “Middle Finger” gun in an attempt to assassinate Shirahama, a fight broke out. During which, Vanera reclaimed her mink Khione, Zaan managed to lodge a chest of gold into the chest cavity of a goblin, and Brick was clearly losing an underwater boxing match with a Giff named Reggie until the others intervened. At long last, Zaan dealt the final blow to the Takatari pirate, driving his blade deep into her skull and riding her corpse into the shallows of the bay. The Watchman fled and the Giff was eventually slain. Time seemed to slow, the water being held back by Zaan began rushing inward but now stood like a solid wall. A brief moment of darkness took over their vision as their consciousnesses were whisked far away back to the land of sand, heat, and desolation.. Deep into the mines of Drybell where an Illithid had prepared a ‘fungeon' for the Tempests to enjoy. Shenanigans were had, loot was collected, and a battle against some strong Golems took place wherein the creations attacked even their creator. A bit flustered after another brush with death by the hands of his own creations, Qhip released the Tempest's minds and sent them back to their bodies where barely a breath had passed. The time finally came! We all got to meet in person for the first time and played D&D together! Much alcohol was consumed, dice were rolled, things were slain, and loot was attained. And yet somehow, we all survived the weekend! Go us! Qhip'haks promised the Tempests once upon a time that he would create a "Fungeon" for them as a reward for helping to take care of the Mushroom Tender so many months ago. Mere moments after slaying Shirahama, their consciounesses were yoinked back to the far off lands of the Untamed West. What sort of tomfoolery does the friendly, yet moderately insane, Illithid have in store for the Tempests? A huge shout out to Nate, Gabe, and Nym for helping with the cameras and audio. This would never have been possible without them. Or at the very least not to such a high quality. And a big thank you to Running Pony Productions for letting us borrow some of the equipment used to record ten eejits playing D&D for five hours. They really helped make this all possible. Fading SunsFading Suns on The Gauntlet. Lowell Francis trying out the system, and you can tell he's down his prep. I'm playing an Ur-Ukar witch with TK-like abilities. We've taken up a mission from a noble to be his escort and eyes and ears in a hostile system. Fading Suns has pulled at me for some years now; I'm hoping to jump-start my future runs of it by playing it first. At its core, it is a Skill + ability roll under system. (I'll have more to say very soon about paying to play and GM-for-hire) I played a warden, one of two survivors off a gith vessel. The other was an Illithid captive. We both took on a bounty from a ghost pirate to recover his stolen goods. Into the Odd is a great system for getting folks in fast and keeping them hooked through the session. I forget I much I LOVE combat mechanics where there is a free & clear declaration step, followed by the dice then reading the outcomes!Rebels of the Outlaw Wastes - Session 01Centered in the apocalypse of Florida, I play an ex-Imagineer, (ex-jackboot in Outlaw parlance) trying to escape my former employer. The Tempests have traveled to Drybell to investigate the disappearance of the entire town. They investigated the town and found no sign of the people apart from a journal of the tavern keeper's final days. Their search led them into the town's silver mine where they encountered a host of fungal creatures defending the pathways. Descending further into the pitch dark, they came to the discovered entrance of a buried city. They rescued an Illithid named Qhiph'aks who helped them navigate the long lost city, though he seemed to not be quite right in the head after an age of loneliness. After a bit of questionably stealthy travel, the Tempests finally faced off against the creature that caused all of the devastation. The Mushroom Tender was not quite what the group was expecting, but soon showed her strength. Through some clever spells and some matrix level dagger throwing, the Mushroom Tender was slain and the body burned to ash. Qhiph'aks explained that they were lucky to have killed her before she was able to reach her full strength. As the group returned to Qhiph's tavern to recuperate (Zaan chose to rob a bank) they found that they were wading through streets clogged with the Tender's reinforcements dropped dead in their tracks with their creator's demise. We now rejoin the party in Qhiph's Tavern as they decide what they wish to do next. Our episode ran long last episode so I broke it in two. Sorry for the jarring intro to the episode but I needed to find the best place to stop and start. In this episode our Adventurers help Gar'ith a Gythyanki who is trying to thwart the Illithid's plans on corrupting the Warforged through a Creation Forge. They must travel through the Astral Sea to get there and then survive placing Clank's bomb on the forge. Easy enough. #Dungeonsanddragons #Wildspace #Spelljammer #liveplay

Rip to the 1d8 we left behindPage 420 in "Gith For Dummies"Words to AvoidAs those who interact frequently with persons of Gith descent (or who are just up on their Planar history) will know, the martial Githyanki and their monastic sibling race, the Githzerai, split so long ago that they each speak a different dialect of Gith. However, the split was not so long ago to render these dialects mutually incomprehensible. Nevertheless a non-native speaker (such as yourself) may struggle to understand the nuances of each dialect. As such, here are words in each dialect to avoid using when speaking with members of the opposing dialects, to avoid accidentally insulting your Gith hosts/ guests/ employees/ business partners/ shipmates/ captors. kry'ki (GY)- an expression of surprise when encountering a potential combatant, a monster, or a potential hostile animal. The GZ translation is literally "withered life energy" and as such is considered particularly heinous and heretical, if not an outright curse on all who hear it, due to their monastic inclinations and uses of "qi" (ki in Gith). The literal GY translation is akin to the Common phrase "bad vibes", and in fact the Common word "crikey" comes from GY Gith. dron'zho bar'by (GZ)- "to flip one's mother over on the grill" in GY, whereas dron'zho just means "to know one's mother" in GZ, and the full phrase is meaningless. In either dialect the conjugation would be: dron'zhor | dron'zhortdron'zhos | dron'zhostdron'zhot | dron'zhog Closely related is drun'zho in both dialects (drun being father). This phrase is particularly offensive due to the Gith's previous status as a food source for the Illithids. The GZ equivalent is dron'tro ber'bi, with similar conjungation. g'hetl'ah (GY)- literally "without a brain" in GZ, "Sword-brained" in GY, indicating an excellent fighter hoonir (GZ)- "painfully stupid" in GY, "blessed" or "silver one" in GZ Any and all words or phrases containing "ir'g'hel" (illithid) or "ir'g'hel'thig" (illithids), or any terminology related to mind flayers or cephalopods should not be used in reference to any Gith, if you value your life, limbs, and/or possessions. Such words and phrases include: Ir'g'helg'hel (ear gey-LIG el)- squid brain (lit. Illithid mind) Ir'yanki (ear yan-KY)- mindflayer tadpole (lit. child of pain) Irhanachri (ear-han-AK-ri) - one awaiting ceremorphosis (the procedure by which adult mind flayers are created). Last time on the Streets of Avalon our rogues…no wait. The important thing to note is Fionn asked a lamplighter to rip her eye out and replace it with an Illithid’s pearl orb.
