The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are once again exploring the fertile terrain of failed TV pilots to combine with the renewed TV project "The Void" that Ben heped craft in 2022 during the "Star Trek-ify" series of podcasts. This episode looks at two portentious dramatic pilots, 1995's "White Dwarf" starring Neal McDonough as a doctor on an alien planet divided into light and dark sides, and 2001's "Ice Planet" with a crew stranded on an alien planet on the other side of space. Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 408 includes: -R.I.P. Dabney Coleman and Morgan Spurlock -"The Fall Guy" is a fun celebration of summer blockbusters and the people who make them. -"If" is a frustrating family film that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. -Jerry Seinfeld's "Unforsted" is a bizarre novelty that leaves the guys baffled. -TV Pilot Graveyard VII (Ice Planet, White Dwarf) -The guys discuss the many ways both of these sci-fi pilots disappointed them and bored them, starting with "Ice Planet" and concluding with the truly inept and strange "White Dwarf," which was brought to us ourtesy of the same creator of "Wild Palms," the incomprehensible "Twin Peaks"-style ripoff show from the early 90s.
This is the inaugural episode of an on-going mini-series for the Riskgaming podcast we're dubbing the Orthogonal Bet. Organized by our scientist-in-residence Sam Arbesman, the goal is to take a step back from the daily machinations that I, Danny Crichton, generally host on the podcast to look at what Sam describes as “…the interesting, the strange, and the weird. Ideas and topics that ignite our curiosity are worthy of our attention, because they might lead to advances and insights that we can't anticipate.” To that end, today our guest is Matt Webb, a virtuoso tinkerer and creative whose experiments with interaction design and technology have led to such apps as the Galaxy Compass (an app that features an arrow pointing to the center of the universe) and Poem/1, a hardware clock that offers a rhyming poem devised by AI. He's also a regular essayist on his blog Interconnected. We latched onto Matt's recent essay about a vibe shift that's underway in the tech world from the utopian model of progress presented in Star Trek to the absurd whimsy of Douglas Adams and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Along the way, we also discuss Neal Stephenson, the genre known as “design fiction,” Stafford Beer and management cybernetics, the 90s sci-fi show Wild Palms, and how artificial intelligence is adding depth to the already multitalented. Episode Produced by Chris Gates Music by George Ko & Suno
Do you like Twin Peaks? Then you'll be utterly confused by Wild Palms almost as confused as SNL alum James Belushi who apparently didn't understand the script so just showed up on set and read his lines. Can't blame you, Jim. This is an indecipherable piece of nonsense. So the story is that ABC wanted to have another weird show to replace Twin Peaks after they ruined that show with studio meddling. They came up with this miniseries about a guy who is looking for the lost kid of his ex-lover and also has nightmares about rhinos and Robert Loggia squealing like a pig. There's also virtual reality where a shitty sitcom can beam to your couch. It's produced by Oliver Stone (who makes a cameo), it takes place in the future (watch for subtle hints because they do nothing with the fact that it's in the future), and it's a big old mess. While I doubt we'll watch any other episodes to see how this story pans out, we watched the 90 minute pilot which is available on YouTube and try to make sense of it. Stay tuned for next week to answer the ultimate question, will Ben get a boner from Mary Gross? (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) يتغلب كيس ومولي على التدخلات القانونية السيبرانية ومحاولة خيانة من ريفيرا لدمج وينترميوت مع نيورومانسر، وينتهي الأمر بكيس يعيش في عالم جديد شجاعأفلام:· Escape from New York (1981)[40][41]· Burst City (1982)[42]· Tron (1982)[43]· Blade Runner (1982)[44]· Brainstorm (1983)[45]· Videodrome (1983)[46]· Repo Man (1984)· The Terminator (1984)· Brazil (1985)· RoboCop (1987)[47]· The Running Man (1987)· Gunhed (1989)[48]· Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989)· Circuitry Man (1990)[49]· RoboCop 2 (1990)· Hardware (a.k.a. Welcome to the final episode of Wake Island! Bruce Wagner is on the show. BRUCE WAGNER is a novelist and screenwriter known for his apocalyptic yet spiritual view of humanity as seen through the lens of Hollywood. His books include: Force Majeure, Dead Stars, I'm Losing You, Wild Palms (graphic novel), I'll Let You Go, Still Holding, The Chrysanthemum Palace, Memorial, The Empty Chair, I Met Someone, A Guide For Murdered Children (writing as Sarah Sparrow), and ROAR: American Master - The Oral Biography of Roger Orr. Bruce was a co writer on A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987). David Cronenberg adapted his screenplay into the movie Map to the Stars, starring Julianne Moore, John Cusack, and Robert Pattinson. Wagner and Oliver Stone co-executive produced Wild Palms, the mini-series Wagner created, based on a comic strip that he wrote for Details magazine. Wild Palms aired on ABC in 1993. Wagner signed a book deal with Counterpoint Press in 2019 for his novel The Marvel Universe: Origin Stories. When he turned in the manuscript, Wagner said that the editor and publisher told him "the language is problematic." One of their objections was to the word "fat" - a 500-lb. character in the novel playfully calls herself "The Fat Joan" (an homage to the popular social media personality "The Fat Jew") - and stated that "not even a character can call herself that." The writer Sam Wasson wrote about the book's journey in Graydon Carter's digital magazine AirMail ("Bruce Wagner's Woke Universe"), suspecting that Wagner's editor had been cautioned by "sensitivity readers." In the same article, Wasson quotes Wagner as saying, "My entire body of work would be thrown into a furnace if it were to be read and judged by sensitivity readers." On October 13, 2020, Wagner decided that rather than look for another publisher, he would release the novel for free, on brucewagner.la, and into the public domain. BLURBS: “He is a visionary posing as a farceur.” - Salman Rushdie “Wagner is a James Joyce whose Dublin is Hollywood.” David Cronenberg “Bruce Wagner's stories about Hollywood are the best I've read since F. Scott Fitzgerald and Nathanael West.” - Terry Southern “Wagner writes like a wizard. His prose writhes and coruscates.” - John Updike LINKS: You can download a free copy of the Marvel Universe here or buy a physical copy online at Amazon. Children of the New Flesh c/o 11:11. Starring Jim Belushi as Harry Wyckoff, a patent attorney tasked with finding a long-lost flame's missing son. The job eventually leads him into the high-stakes world of religion, mind control, and virtual reality. It's a wild ride that doesn't necessarily stick the landing but still manages to be entertaining. Scary Stories We Tell's Jess Byard joins Chris to talk about the miniseries, the Twin Peaks connection, and cyberpunk media. Aderezan la discusión temas de Roxy Music y Jesus And The Brides of Dracula.

“How can I break into Hollywood or advance in my creative career if there is no set path to follow?” is by far the most common question I receive via e-mail, when I speak at events, or when I teach at USC or online. Whenever someone sends me an email or Facebook message and asks, “Can I buy you coffee and pick your brain?” this is inevitably the big question they seek the answer to. Unlike doctors or lawyers, the path to being a successful film editor, writer, visual effects artist, animator, actor, or any other creative career is not a linear path, but here’s the secret nobody tells you: There are very specific steps you can follow to be successful, but you have to be willing to put in the time and take action consistently. The key is not discovering the path and following it, the key is learning the proper steps to forge your own unique path. In this episode I dive deep into what it really takes to break into or advance in the Hollywood post-production industry with none other than USC professor and former head of the editing track, Norman Hollyn. This is a two hour marathon episode so get comfortable. This was one of the most downloaded and shared 2-part episodes of my former podcast, but I thought it beneficial to combined it into a single episode and feature it as part of the Optimize Yourself program so new people just discovering this show wouldn’t have to dig for it because people have told me firsthand this interview was the difference between them landing a job or not landing it. The advice Norman gives is seriously that universal and that powerful, and it can be applied far beyond jobs in post-production. BONUS: If this episode inspires you to start taking some real action to get where you want to in Hollywood and land your dream job, I have great news because you ain’t seen nothin’ yet. I just released my brand new “Ultimate Guide to ‘Making It’ In Hollywood as a Creative” that is an absolute manifesto on the practical steps you can take to begin forging your own path to success. And if you’re not in Hollywood, trust me when I say that if these steps work here, they’ll work anywhere and apply to any creative field. This guide includes some of the exercises discussed in this episode as well as deeper dives into clarifying your goals, perfecting your craft, and expanding your social network so the right people know you’re awesome at what you do and beg you to work for them. Should you take free work? People skills and social skills are more important than you think Part of advancing in your career is being able to make choices Re-evaluating your goals is growth Being fiscally responsible will give you more choices and give you the freedom to take work that’s valuable to your career and not necessarily your bank account To be happy it’s important to acknowledge that third circle: Personal needs Write down your intentions and focus -- no matter how many drafts it takes! Da “Genitalia Garden” a “Love means taking action”, fino all'ultima uscita “Finding people”, Croatian Amor ci trascina da qualche parte, senza capire davvero dove.
