Brian Adams is the owner of The Art Room in West Reading, PA, and one of my most valued allies when it comes to philanthropy and making change. I met Brian two years ago when he contacted me to participate in The Awesome Toy Drive. Since then, we've always had the best conversations in his shop. We talk about small business, spill the tea on the avenue, and what we need to succeed in life. What I loved about this episode was our discussion about religion. It's refreshing to hear from a man who is technically not welcome in certain areas of the catholic church but still has faith. Oh, and before I forget, Brian was a personal shopper to the glamorous in New York City and even shopped for the hit movie Creed. ►Start with your guide to Creed https://silverscreenguide.podbean.com/e/your-guide-to-creed-2015/ Despite intending Rocky Balboa (2006) aka Rocky VI to be the Italian Stallion's last hoorah...turns out his story isn't quite finished. Fan fiction turned reality, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler's dream came true when he was given the greenlight by Sylvester Stallone himself to create a spin-off from the long running franchise. Instead of once again focusing on Balboa, this time our main protagonist would be the son of Apollo Creed...a character audiences hadn't seen in 30 years. Not only resurrecting but spinning-off an old but memorable franchise is a risky move. Does Coogler's fresh vision take the series into new rounds? For 16 long years the Italian Stallion seemed to be finally in retirement...that is until he made his comeback. After the scorned fifth entry, little did anyone suspect a nearly 70 year old Sylvester Stallone would return to the boxing ring. Does receiving critical and audience praise mean Rocky's return is the best entry since the original? Join Corbin and Allen as they review Balboa's sixth outing to find out! Breaking its 3 year tradition, Rocky returns for its fifth installment to end the pentalogy. He has beaten Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago in the ring. Spanning over 14 years, what will Rocky end with? Is his biggest foe yet to come? What else can director John G. Alvidson bring to the table to finish off the franchise for now? I pity the fool? More like I WILL BREAK YOU! It's the era of Regan so what does Rocky do? He takes on the Soviet Union in the boxing ring of course! The Cold War is nearly over--Stallone's remedy? Knock out the Communists! In what some have called a propaganda film, the fourth installment in the series hits its biggest box office score of the franchise. But is this merely a montage, propaganda fantasy or is this actually the best we'll get from the Italian Stallion? Question after the show: Is Rocky IV truly the worst of the franchise? Or is the worst yet to come? Bob and John get together to talk about the Assassin's Creed film that came out over the holidays. John hasn't seen it but Bob has a lot of thoughts on why it perhaps didn't work as well as it could have despite (or perhaps because of?) a clear and strong connection to the games that inspire it. John shares a little bit of information on the next episode of History Respawned for the YouTube channel, and we talk a little bit about why the war is such a fascinating historical challenge across different historical disciplines. Finally we share what we've been playing: John has been roaming the ruins of the future in Destiny and Bob has been fighting against colonial oppression in XCom 2. Assassin's Creed (2016) PG-13 | 2h 20min | Action, Adventure, Fantasy | 21 December 2016 In 21 theaters near Kirkland WA US [change] When Callum Lynch explores the memories of his ancestor Aguilar and gains the skills of a Master Assassin, he discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society. Director: Justin Kurzel Writers: Michael Lesslie (screenplay), Adam Cooper (screenplay) Stars: Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons
The Harold & Maudecast Movie Reviews - Assassin's Creed Hosted by Sarah Mason & Jake Essoe The Harold & Maudecast reviews the Now Playing film, ASSASSIN'S CREED produced by and starring Michael Fassbender, based on the Ubisoft video game. Just as he thinks he's about to go straight to hell, convicted murderer and death row inmate Callum Lynch (Fassbender) finds himself the lab rat of a mysterious secret society. Hooked up for the VR experience of his life -- think Matrix + Dr. Octavius, Callum goes on a ride through his ancestral playground as Aguilar circa 15th Century Spain. Callum amasses a lot of mad skills which he will need to fight the powerful Templar organization in present day. This story is a confusing mess. Not sure who the producers are targeting, video game fans, ain't gonna satisfy, new audiences? No way. Oddly the production level is super high with an incredible score and sound editing and sound effects that are Oscar worthy. Visually some stunning things in this film. Fassbender along with a formidable cast of acting heavy weights, Jeremy Irons, Marion Cotillard, Charlotte Rampling, Michael Kenneth Williams and Brendan Gleeson, are completely wasted on this go nowhere story that relies to heavily on building a plot that has no foundation. Our advice to Hollywood, stop making movies based on video games. It doesn't work. 5/10 Release date: December 21, 2016 (USA) Director: Justin Kurzel Visit www.thehmcnetwork.com for more Movie reviews and podcasts.
Video game movie adaptations have a very rough history. Sometimes you strike gold with a movie like Mortal Kombat then other times you get a horrible movie like House of the Dead or countless other Uwe Boll video game movies. In comes Assassins Creed which seeks to set the tone and start the trend of video games movies being done right. Does it accomplish this? Tune in and find out. Shrink2Shrink podcast – Like Siskel & Ebert, with a psychological twist! On this episode of @Shrink2Shrink we psychologically dismantle the 2015 movie Creed. Here, our 2 shrinks Dr. Colleen Mullen https://twitter.com/DrColleenMullen and Courtney Calkins https://twitter.com/QuadFatherMft discuss themes from the movie and explore what we can learn for our own lives using the themes of the film: family ties, what makes a family, and how Adonis Creed makes sense of being born to the incredible Apollo Creed – he never knew his father, but he has the same passion for boxing as his father. We also explore how living with a legend in the family can be something that can open doors for us, but can also be something we want to keep hidden. Then, we get to reminisce about our love for the icon of Rocky Balboa as a cultural icon and the spark that the stories ignite in each one of us and why. What is it about his achievements, his love of both boxing and Adrian (“Yo, Adrian!”) that inspire us? Listen in as we examine love, relationships, loneliness, overcoming obstacles, resiliency and following your passions.
