In this illuminating solosode of The Red Light Report, Dr. Mike Belkowski takes a deep dive into the fascinating work of photo-biological pioneer John Ott, whose groundbreaking discoveries laid the foundation for our modern understanding of how light affects biological systems. Dr. Mike revisits Ott's influential (yet often overlooked) book, Health and Light, exploring excerpts that demonstrate the profound influence of light on plants, animals, and humans — including its effects on hormonal balance, cellular behavior, sex determination, and even viral activity. The episode covers: • Ott's concept of mal-illumination and the modern light environment crisis • Experiments showing how different light wavelengths influenced the sex of fish and chinchillas, cholesterol levels in mice, and behavior in lab animals • How ultraviolet light affects chloroplast streaming and retinal pigment epithelial cells • The surprising connections between light, the endocrine system, and overall health • Why sunglasses may be harming your health by disrupting natural UV perception • Dr. Mike's reflections on the importance of embracing full-spectrum sunlight for true vitality Whether you're a longtime light therapy enthusiast or just beginning your journey, this episode will radically shift how you view the light that surrounds you. Look there are no words to describe what even happened in the first period alone. But we have taken an absolute cinema of Game 1 and crushed the expectations for that here tonight. This is the best game I have ever had the privilege of calling. Join Alec and I for the memories.
We got something in Game 1 of the 2025 rematch that we didn't get at all last year! Don't miss this one.
The entire gang is back together for this pivotal matchup. If the Oilers win tonight... it sets up a Stanley Cup Finals rematch with the Panthers next week.
Join Ian Genge and I for this call... as we shared some harsh truths and discussed other topics too.
When it comes down to winning games consistently in the playoffs, it takes a full 60 minutes. Let this be a lesson to everyone. Holy cow, what a turnaround!
Sometimes the truth hurts.
There was a lot on the line in this game, and more then what we would see on the ice. This was one of the best playoff games of the year.

The Colorado Avalanche have retooled their entire roster during the 2024-2025 regular season for this. The Dallas Stars are trying to avoid an eighth-straight loss heading into the postseason , but critical injuries to Robertson and Heiskanen mean that the Stars have to split at American Airlines Center to start this critical series. Alec Nava (@DatYinzerAlec) will carry coverage of the first round of games 1-5 while I housesit for family, I will return during the start of May for Games 6-7 and beyond for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This game was already big as both Vancouver and Calgary are rivals that know each other well. It was the fourth and final meeting of the year. These two teams don't score a whole lot, but you wouldn't know that from taking in this game. Join us for this nail-biter.
The Tampa Bay Lightning are starting to look like they used to. That's bad news for the rest of the league.
Very rarely are sequels as good as the original. But in this case USA and Canada was akin to the Ali vs. Frazier trilogy. This might very well be the best hockey game ever seen. The opener on Saturday drew over 10 million viewers. I expect this championship game to supersede even that! Enjoy this one. Also shoutout to Alec Nava for coverage through this entire tournament. I can't wait to work in the booth with him (among others) for real someday!
The United States were missing several players but still went toe-to-toe with Sweden. All of the scoring came early, but this game stayed close throughout.
This was a very tight game through the first 40 minutes of play. But once Brady and Matthew Tkachuk took over it was lights out for the "Stars and Stripes."
It was a great start for Sweden and the way that Canada came out like gangbusters this game seemed like it could be over very quickly. But it ended up being an instant classic. Join me alongside Alec Nava and Ian Genge!
This was a massive game for both Tampa Bay and Detroit as the top-3 spot was up for grabs in the Atlantic Division. It ended up being a wild game.
Two teams that are in the battle of the Western Conference Wild Card. Cooper and I take you through the broadcast and talk about all sorts of the latest sports topics this week! This ended up being a really entertaining and wacky game.
A game that went down to the wire between Detroit and Calgary and two intermissions loaded with the latest headlines and trades. This is a broadcast to not be missed! (:
Some of the best health strategies are the most simple and basic; unfortunately, it's the simplicity that makes them easy to quickly overlook and undervalue. As much as I love reading the newest books and most up-to-date research to stay on the leading edge of wellness and longevity, I also believe that some of the most treasured information can be obtained from hidden gems from times of yore. Even some of the most prolific research on how light impacts our health originates from the 40s, 50s and 60s, thanks to John Ott (remember those solosodes, long-time listeners?!). Not to mention, some of the most reliable health and medical strategies were produced from our ancestors thousands of years ago via Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, to name a couple. The best techniques and approaches inevitably stand the test of time.Enter Charles Atlas, "The World's Most Perfectly Developed Man," who was a veritable biohacker way back in the early 1900s — multiple generations before the term came into use. And don't worry, this episode isn't about bodybuilding or necessarily about perfecting our physique. Rather, Charles Atlas created a program in the 1920s - 1940s that consists of a dozen separate lessons where each lesson goes over various health and wellness strategies; ranging from the mental, to the physical, to diet, to the importance of "building magnetism" and much more. In today's episode, I want to go over those approaches that I felt would be interesting and relevant to you all.Charles Atlas (born Angelo Siciliano; October 30, 1892 – December 24, 1972) was an Italian-American bodybuilder, entrepreneur, and fitness pioneer. He is best known for his mail-order fitness program and for being dubbed “The World's Most Perfectly Developed Man.” Atlas claimed he was inspired to change his body after seeing statues of Greek and Roman gods at the Brooklyn Museum. His fitness philosophy emphasized health, strength, and self-confidence. Atlas is considered a pioneer in promoting fitness to the general public and is often credited with sparking the modern fitness culture. He was an advocate for a healthy diet and a clean lifestyle. It was a battle of stars in between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. The former NBA champion was in prime form.
Once things hit the second half, OKC found their footing.
Despite some turnovers and maybe some calls that weren't reciprocated it was an old-school effort from Golden State and Houston
It was an emotional night at the Saddledome and I'm so glad that the trio were able to cover this game.
For both Cooper and myself it's that time once again to cover both of our favorite teams on a pre-Thanksgiving matchup. In our first intermission was a recap of our Seattle trip as the broadcast duo met for the first time in person! (:
This was one of those games coming off of being sick and on vacation that can be a blender. Well, Alec Nava joined me to watch EDM look as good as they did in the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers!
For a third year in a row the duo covers the first game of the season for the Calgary Flames. This could be one of the craziest games of the season and there are still 81 more left to go. Join in! Cooper and I will have much more to say later on in the year, and key in on some big topics during intermission the cross talk.
This game was an absolute rollercoaster! What a way to begin the 2024-2025 NHL season!
Eugenio Suarez had a grand slam and a five-RBI night as the Arizona Diamondbacks routed the Boston Red Sox. The final innings was a fun league look-around and MLB talk.

Can light function as a form of nutrition for our bodies? Join Meredith Oke and Ken Ceder, a seasoned engineer specializing in healthy light solutions on this episode of The Quantum Biology Collective. With over three decades of experience, Ken illuminates the topic of malillumination, drawing parallels between light and essential nutrients, and discussing how our indoor lifestyles may be leaving us light-deficient. Ken brings to light the pioneering work of John Ott in the realm of full spectrum light technology. He recounts Ott's serendipitous findings on the influence of light quality on plant growth, which led to the creation of the first full spectrum light tube—an incredible advancement for simulating the benefits of natural sunlight indoors. So what are the negative repercussions of unhealthy lighting? Ken argues that the kind of light we're exposed to can have disruptive effects on circadian rhythms and metabolism impacting sleep and weight management, and even mood imbalances. Wrapping up, Ken introduces his own innovative light product designed to combat the challenges of spending too much time indoors. His solution blends LED efficiency with a composition of light that mirrors the natural spectrum, including traces of ultraviolet and near-infrared light, aiming to bring a slice of the sun's benefits to our indoor spaces. Tune in for an enlightening discussion that sheds light on how the right illumination can lead to a healthier life. This episode is an essential listen for anyone looking to enhance their well-being through conscious light choices. Quotes: "Malillumination is suggesting that first and foremost, light is in fact a nutrient, the same as food or basically similar to food." (03:14 | Ken Ceder) “I don't think there's anything that any of your viewers could possibly do, no matter if they're in great health, or unfortunately, if they're in poor health, if they want to find the simplest, least expensive trick, step out in the morning sun.” (27:18 | Ken Ceder) "Light is visible radiation. And so what it's doing for you or what it's giving you is energy." (33:07 | Ken Ceder) “Metabolism, the fire that keeps you going, the fire of your biology is metabolism. It is 100%, 100% based on or dependent on light. So light in the morning, it ignites your metabolism.” (36:12 | Ken Ceder) Links Connect with Ken Ceder: SOL light therapy device: https://solshine.org/products/sol-photovites use code: QBC Science of Light Foundation: solshine.org Ken Ceder's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ken-ceder-03866b10/ Ken Ceder's Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064320986611 John Ott's Book "Health & Light" https://www.amazon.com/Health-Light-extraordinary-Affects-emotional/dp/0898040981/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2VP0OFDKEI9BN&keywords=john+ott&qid=1698942892&sprefix=john+ott%2Caps%2C75&sr=8-1 To find a practitioner who understand the health principles of quantum biology: www.quantumbiologycollective.org To become a QBC member and get invites to live deep dives & access to our video library: www.quantumhealthtv.com To take our 8 week practitioner certification in the science of quantum biology so that you can add it to your existing area of expertise: www.appliedquantumbiology.com Follow on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook: @quantumhealthtv Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm
