Joining “Addiction Talk” is actor, activist and model, Kevin Kreider, who is best known as one of the stars of the Netflix series, “Bling Empire.”Though he comes from a loving and kind family, Kreider struggled with his identity beginning at a young age. Kevin was born in Seoul, Korea, and at age three, was adopted and grew up in Philadelphia. It wasn't long after this that the bullying and beatings began due to his ethnicity.Because of what he experienced in his youth, Kevin threw himself into fitness and had success as a personal trainer. Though he changed himself physically, he relied upon alcohol to shape his personality. After a short while, he signed with one of the most prestigious modeling agencies in New York City. Years of non-stop work, stress, an alopecia areata diagnosis and alcohol consumption proved to be too much and Kevin sought help.Just a few years into his recovery, Kevin delivered a TED talk called “Redefining Asian Masculinity” that went viral. His other videos on Asian masculinity began to garner attention and were responsible for his participation in “Bling Empire.”Today, Kevin has been sober for more than eight years and is the founder and CEO of Sans by Taejin Beverage, a nonalcoholic drink and mixer. His mission with his company is to empower and destigmatize sobriety.

Reinvention: Identity, Sobriety and The Wheel with Kevin Kreider @kevin.kreider Broadcast journalist and pioneer of BBC's HardTalk Chris Sackur once made the astute observation that artistic types are confined to a single label, as it is more convenient to survey the skill of an artist to the public, but . . . Art doesn't have limits, only small minds do as is paraphrased by Stanislavski. On this show and many subject programs, pay attention long enough and you'll notice that seekers and advocates of Recovery have a strong creative streak that spans mediums by the dozen and as such have ventured to create their own content to purvey their skills. . . . . . This show is a primo example. Commerce, meanwhile, at the same time has been a tricky shadow subject and to this day has kept advocates on their toes where Recovery is concerned - “How in the world could you charge something you can get for free?” comes the one statement, whilst “Recovery is NEVER FREE!” also has been heard for a foolish retort. Art and commerce are uncommon bedfellows as are Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny, but the heart is what separates the boys from the men. Taking a stand when the deck is stacked high and breaking the mold. Kevin Kreider is the second coming to reinvent this wheel. Kevin has an extensive portfolio spanning the arts, business, and motivational speaking to name but a few. He has been featured extensively on multimedia with his endeavors to break cultural stereotypes (much like his predecessor, the legendary James Hong) in Television and Film and is featured on the popular unscripted series on Netflix “Bling Empire”. As a further testament to his versatility, Kevin used his experience and created a new opportunity with his new ready-to-drink zero-proof cocktail, Sans. He joins DIS Live to chat about his journey and the path he molded for himself to highlight cultural and career diversity. Tune in on DIS Live, every Tuesday at 5 pm Est 2 pm PSt. To be part of our live audience or ask questions to our guests please request access ahead of time firesidechat.com/daniellapark Thanks for listening! Shaman Durek steps Behind The Rope. Bling Empire’s Scene stealing Shaman Durek. Of course, we discuss Shaman Durek’s involvement in Bling Empire after being “hired” by Kevin Kreider to help Kelly Mi Li work out her "relationship issues" with Andrew Gray or, in other words, one of the central storylines of this brilliant freshman Netflix Series (if you did not watch, what are you waiting for). Shaman Durek chats with us about how one becomes a Shaman, what exactly does a Shaman do (oh c’mon, like you know), how can a Shaman help each and every one of us in our daily lives, and what are the biggest misconceptions of a Shaman. We delve deep into topics like social media and fame obsession, how people are often their own worst enemies, the affect Reality TV has on us as a society, the use of outside stimulants such as sex, drugs, alcohol to help numb the pain of daily life and what is needed in order to gain complete peace of mind in the fast paced world we live in today. Deemed “Shaman to the Stars”, we discuss other famous clients, besides our favorite “Crazy Rich Asians” over on Bling Empire, such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Nina Dobrev, and Chord Overstreet. In fact, Gwyneth is one of Shaman Durek’s best friends, we chat about what that is like and how, although people are often used to and/or treated differently because they are a celebrity, at the end of the day, we are all just humans trying to live an authentic life. It is clear Shaman Durek is living an authentic life, even if that life involves dating a member of The Royal Family, The Princess of Norway. Finally, we ask Shaman Durek if he has picked up on any vibes from Behind The Rope during our time together and if he can advise us on how to live a happier, kinder, more peaceful life. @shamandurek@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeBrought to you by Better HELP https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope") Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

As residents of LA working on projects promoting Asian American representation, we met Kevin years ago through our friends at Wongfu Productions, whose shorts Kevin has acted in. And Kevin actually hosted a gala where ABG received our first cultural impact award from APEX in 2019. In this episode, we talk about both the Kevin in Bling Empire and the Kevin BEFORE Bling Empire - the Kevin who worked as a model and fitness coach while running his own production company called Taejin Entertainment LLC. The Kevin who has been an advocate of redefining Asian masculinity for many years and has been a motivational speaker at places like TedX and Google about reclaiming Asian male sexuality in America. It's been one year since the launch of "The May Lee Show" and what a year it's been! What started off as a modest attempt at focusing on and elevating the voices of the Asian and Asian American community quickly became something relevant, relatable and reliable to viewers and listeners of the show. From the highest of highs...Parasite's sweep of the Oscars, to the lowest of lows...xenophobic attacks against Asians triggered by COVID-19, "The May Lee Show" spotlighted and tackled issues and topics from a distinctly Asian American angle with depth, truth and purpose. The uniqueness of the show attracted high-profile guests including Maggie Q, Daniel Wu, Kevin Kwan, Shannon Lee, Kevin Kreider and Bowen Yang all of whom spoke openly and freely about things they either rarely or never talk about in interviews. In this anniversary episode, May reflects back on the year with her business partner and friend, Benny Luo of NextShark. They don't hold back on sharing their thoughts, especially when it comes to the ups and downs of a startup and the state of the AAPI community.
Today's episode is with Kevin Kreider, who is in a new reality show called Bling Empire. In this interview with Kevin Kreider, we discuss Asian masculinity in depth. How is representation changing for Asian males in the west? How can we keep that progress going? How is dating changing for Asian men and for Kevin himself? We'll also get into Kevin's history. All in all it was a great discussion. Is being seen as rich such a bad thing for Asians? Addressing the haters -- is Bling Empire really positive representation for Asians / Asian men? How Kevin feels Asian men are quickly advancing in representation, and general thoughts on how we can improve Asian male representation in the west (and our dating lives). What I thought about him getting rejected by Kelly on the show Whether he and Kim Lee are dating as of now How has dating life changed for him from High School all the way to now after Bling Empire fame His craziest DMs

Growing up a Korean adoptee in Philadelphia had more than its fair share of challenges for Kevin Kreider. Although he was fully embraced by his caucasian parents and brother, Kevin knew he was different and his peers didn't let him forget that. He was constantly bullied and discriminated against for the way he looked. Racial insults were regularly hurled at him…”Hey, Bruce Lee!”, “Ching Chang Chong!”. Those experiences skewed his self image and made him feel “ugly" and "less than". But with a lot of soul searching, Kevin discovered his true identity as an Asian man and set out on a mission to change negative stereotypes and misperceptions. He transformed his physical body and became a model and fitness guru and now openly speaks about the importance of redefining Asian Masculinity. This week, May sits down with Kevin to talk about his upbringing, struggles, self-discovery and how reconnecting with his Asian identity has changed the way he approaches dating.
Our interviews with filmmakers from the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival continue in part two of our coverage. Alan Ng chats with Kevin Kreider and Doris Yeung of The Ugly Model; Julian Kim, Peter S. Lee, and Hyanghwa of Happy Cleaners; Sergio M. Rapu of Eating Up Easter; Tim Tsai and Dr. Thao Ha of Seadrift; and Ximan Li, Celia Au, and Yi Liu of In A New York Minute.
On this episode, the AHSIA team speaks with author, model, and fitness guru, Kevin Kreider! Kevin speaks out about being a Korean adoptee, an ex-actor, and the importance of recognizing self hatred, and helping empower many Asian Americans to find the beauty in themselves and challenging beauty standards. Kevin also talks about his experience in being the focal point of the documentary, The Ugly Model, featured in the 2019 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival! Farial shakes her head at Parimal and Debesh's jokes. Again.

In 2014, the stress and non-stop nature of his career in the entertainment industry took a toll on his body and Kevin was diagnosed with Alopecia Areata, an auto-immune disease that attacks the hair follicles. In two weeks, he not only lost a majority of his hair, but his modeling career. That same year, Kevin decided to embark on a soul-searching journey. Well this is timely! In the year that has come and gone since the start of Plan A, we’ve broached topics that have either been ignored or suppressed by the mainstream Asian American community. But it’s one thing to discuss them; it’s another to take positive actions to fix problems. So the question for discontent Asian American guys is: what steps are necessary to finally find a way out of the bog of anger that exists online and start improving our future? If you were to look at your life as a movie, who plays the hero and who plays the villain? I'm quicker to identify the villain in my story than the hero. The villain? That's easy, insecurity. Insecurity has kicked my ass in the past and from time to time, he still rears his ugly head. If I'm honest, a skirmish with insecurity can take me out of the game for a few days. What about you? Is insecurity the villain of your story too? Maybe for you, the villain is fear or shame or some other limiting belief that lurks in the shadows. Isn't it time that we rise up and play the part of the hero and beat back these destructive influences? I want to be able to look back at a ripe old age and be able to say that I overcame everything that stood in my way. Let's face it, life isn't just about what we can defeat, it's about what we can build too! When we peel back the layers of insecurity, shame, and all the others, what do we have left? Here to help us peel back the layers of hurt and begin the work of building a solid framework for success, is fitness and life coach extraordinaire, Kevin Kreider. Fitness has been a key part of Kevin's life, helping him achieve personal goals and pursue a career in modeling and acting. Diving into the entertainment and fitness industries has given Kevin a platform to rise above the stereotypes that come along with being an Asian-American man. Recently, Kevin has gained notoriety through a viral video produced by Huffington Post where he opens up about his negative experiences as an Asian-American man on the dating scene. There is a reason why this video went viral, people! It's raw and vulnerable, full of painful truths and harsh realities. Real talk? Kevin and I have faced some significant struggles when it comes to racism and stereotypes about Asian-Americans. If you don't come from a minority group, I'd like to invite you to open yourself up to what we have to say and consider what life is like in our shoes. I'm confident that the totality of Kevin's message will resonate with you no matter your background! Check out that video featuring Kevin, here and get ready for some powerful TRUTH BOMBS in our conversation! Pulling up the floorboards and stripping the place down. I've got to come clean, I'm a sucker for home renovation shows on HGTV. There is something about striping a house down, all the way to the support beams and building something completely new that deeply resonates with me. On these shows, before they can really get to the good stuff, they have to go to work tearing down the existing framework. From pulling up some nasty shag carpet from the 70's to scraping a popcorn textured ceiling, before the new vision can become a reality, the old has to go! In a lot of ways, you and I have to go through the same process. Life has handed you a script, you have to decide if you want to accept it or if you want to put in the work and start rewriting it. You don't have to live with shag carpet from the 70's just like you don't have to live a life weighed down with insecurity, fear, and shame! If you've watched these shows or participated in a DIY home improvement project yourself, you know that it's no walk in the park! While it may look easy from the comfort of your couch, the truth is, if you want results, you've got to get some dirt under your fingernails. Are you willing to get some dirt under your fingernails? What lengths will you go to pull up the floorboards of fear in your life? Kaizenites, you can do this! Brick by brick let's start ripping down the old mindset that functions on fear, insecurity, and all the rest to build a life we can be proud of! From tearing down to building up. Have you ever noticed that tearing things down is a lot easier than building something from scratch? When you focus on tearing things down, you can get sort of drunk off of the power you are wielding. Deconstructing narratives and demolishing harmful thought patterns are kind of a trip! Sooner or later, you have to put down the sledgehammer and pick up the blueprint and start planning for the next phase, reconstruction. When you get through all the layers what do you have left? Maybe you find your fist tightening around that sledgehammer because it's comforting or familiar. You aren't alone! I know that letting go of your fear can be scary, especially when you've used fear as your fuel for years! I'm speaking from personal experience when I tell you that moving from an unhealthy mindset to a healthy mindset is VERY difficult but worth the effort! In my experience, the best way to embrace a healthy mindset is by tapping into the power of spirituality. I'm not here to tell you what to believe or how to practice spirituality. You do you! Without fail, when I speak to a leader who has their shit together, the primary cause they point to is a connection to a higher power or spiritual practice. It's no accident that many of the major world religions and spiritual movements focus on concepts like serving others, practicing forgiveness, and meditation. What are you waiting for? The time to start growing your mindset in a healthy direction is right now! You can do this, I'm rooting for you and your success! The trailer for the Netflix adaptation of Jenny Han's YA novel, "To All The Boys I've Loved Before," has fans excited, especially because an Asian woman is in a lead rom-com role. But within Asian American spaces, there has been a lot of discussion over how progressive this movie actually is when it's yet another story about an Asian girl obsessing over mainly white boys. Is media rep for POC always to be unquestioningly celebrated? Can we freely talk about the problems of idealizing white love interests? Joining Jess and Oxford, male model Kevin Kreider offers his insider knowledge of the racist hierarchy in the modeling/entertainment world to highlight why this is an important issue that is much more than about movies and TV. Kevin Kreider spent much of his upbringing being made painfully aware of how different he was as a Korean adoptee. The pain imposed on him by peers and the media for looking different, and the insecurity that followed motivated Kevin to begin working out. He eventually managed to start both modeling and acting careers, but was again set back. This time it was by Alopecia Areata, causing him to go bald. Being an Asian male in modeling or acting was especially challenging, but going bald made it next to impossible for Kevin to continue on his current trajectory. He decided to quit everything and embark on a soul-searching mission in the form of a cross-country skateboard trip from Los Angeles to New York City. After his trip, Kevin had to decide what to do next. Kevin had to start from scratch and decide what was really important to him. He returned to his previous fitness career as a coach, but this time it wasn't about, “Making it as an Asian model or actor.” It was now about helping others find the same feelings of confidence he did when he decided to become fit and healthy. Kevin doesn't believe one should face all of the life's challenges alone. People need a group of family, friends, and like-minded people to inspire them and help them when they're down. At the end of the day, there is always someone else out there who knows how you feel. *** If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving us a short review?
