Scripture: Genesis 1:1-2:3 Key Takeaways: “Today as I read Genesis 1–2 my thoughts go to high school biology and physics. How does the biblical depiction of creation relate to the big bang theory and evolution? No doubt, Genesis 1–2 has bearing on our evaluation of these modern scientific accounts of cosmic and human origins. But a moment's thought will jar us into remembering that this comparison would not have occurred to ancient authors and readers. It is certain that the biblical account of creation was not written to counter Charles Darwin or Stephen Hawking, but it was written in the light of rival descriptions of creation...Since God's people were constantly tempted to worship the deities of other nations, we shouldn't be surprised that the biblical accounts of creation were shaped in such a way as to provide a clear distinction from those of other nations.” – Tremper Longman III, How to Read Genesis + Creation is God bringing cosmos out of chaos + Creation is framing and filling + Creation is God revealing himself Romans 1:20 -       Declares the glory of God Psalm 19:1-2 -       Displays the wisdom of God + Creation is God's good gift to us + God brings about the new creation like he brought about the first creation 2 Corinthians 4:4-6

Today we dive deep into a universal struggle that affects us all: the comparison trap. In a world fueled by social media highlights and curated success stories, it's easy to find ourselves measuring our worth against others. This happens to me all of the time. I see someone else's life: the promotion, the new house, a fancy vacation, their business success…and start frantically wondering why I don't have that yet. Setting aside dismissing my own successes, never once did I stop and think…is that something I actually want? With the highlight reels and the constant moving of our own goalposts, it is easy to see how our definition of success would start to get muddy. We slip into allowing others to define it for us and fall back into the never-ending loop of the comparison trap. It's time to take back control, use comparison as inspiration, not envy, and define success on our own terms. To help us do that is my friend Hayley Dawson, Founder of The Blocks.Hayley and I immediately connected over many of our shared interests including unpacking the unique struggles of today's 20-somethings. Sabine VdL talks to Pravina Ladva, Group Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Swiss Re. Pravina's career reads like a playbook for digital transformation and has answers that could redefine the way we look at insurance economics. This conversation is not just timely, it's urgently needed in a world where data is the new oil and AI is the new electricity. Pravina tells us about why Swiss Re is taking the lead with its groundbreaking Sigma Research Report from the Swiss Re Institute, what are we – as an industry – standing to gain or lose, uncovering the blueprints for the future of insurance, digital risk, and how technology could either be the ladder or the snake in this high-stakes game of digital transformation. KEY TAKEAWAYS          Today you can't turn a corner without talking about AI, tech and data. This means there's a huge amount of opportunity that's been untapped. There are a whole load of new business models that we haven't even dreamed of yet.  Digitisation is taking the analogue world and putting it into a digital system so that it can be transmitted around the world both in terms of data and conversation in a digital context as opposed to a paper context. Digitalisation is how you take that information and apply it to your business processes. Many organisations deal with some kind of legacy technology, you need to be aware of you digital environment and work within that as well as what are the opportunities to change it and where some of it is OK, because not all legacy is bad.  BEST MOMENTS ‘If you type digitisation and digitalisation the come up together on autocorrect, it shows we really have a mixed view on what they both are and mean.'‘Every one of my peers that I speak to are all facing the same challenge: There is a war for talent because we all want the same kind of people to come and do similar kinds of things.'‘No organisation on its own can achieve what it wants to achieve, you need to be very open minded about who you're partnering with, whether that's InsurTechs, large global service providers, whoever it is in the end-to-end ecosystem to really bring the value in the right way.'‘It's not about your core technology, it's about what you do with it and how you operate it that makes a difference.' ABOUT THE GUEST Pravina Ladva started her career at Abbey National/Santander, gaining experience in the financial technology sector, with responsibility for various areas from strategy to delivery and financial results. Play Episode Listen Later Nov 16, 2022 25:27

In this episode of Kaleidoscope, we discuss the significance, complexity, and evolution of education in the insurance industry. Joining us is Patrick Wraight, director of Insurance Journal's Academy of Insurance. As an insurance learning professional, Patrick is passionate about taking the complicated and making it accessible for everyone, especially in the insurance industry. Key Takeaways:   Today, the world is more complex, risks are escalating, and insurance policies are becoming increasingly challenging to manage. It's important to continue to elevate insurance as a profession and communicate the importance of expertise in this field. Those who want to learn and grow as experts will prosper, and those who just want to “check the box” will fade away. Learning and teaching has changed substantially over the last few years. These shifts have forced insurance educators and trainers to shake up the way they deliver content and keep topics interesting. It is not effective to teach eight hours' worth of content over Zoom the same way you do when presenting in a classroom. Teachers and presenters must up their game to keep the focus of each learner and drive home a measurable impact. “The Distraction Factor” is preventing learners from acquiring specialized, high-value knowledge and effectively implementing it into how they engage with others. People are no longer looking for an instructor to just instruct them. Often, they are looking for a guide to sit alongside them to help elevate them to their next level of wisdom. The licensure and CE requirements in the insurance industry need to be disrupted. Individual states must understand that someone who passes an exam saying they have a general understanding of insurance is not enough to truly be able to support consumers. Licensure will need to evolve into a much more comprehensive understanding of insurance. One way we can move closer to doing this is by revamping continuing education programs.   This episode is hosted by Frank Pennachio and Susan Toussaint of ReSource Pro's Growth Solutions practice. The Founder & CEO of SmartLiving 360 and Nexus Insights Fellow shares his thoughts on why “place” is so important and how senior living operators need to position to satisfy a new generation of older adults. About Ryan Ryan Frederick focuses on the intersection of place and healthy aging. His first book, Right Place, Right Time: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing a Home for the Second Half of Life, was released October 12 by Johns Hopkins University Press. SmartLiving 360 helps institutions and individuals thrive in the Age of Longevity by providing strategy consulting services, real estate development services and consumer content. Clients range from leading health systems and billion-dollar institutional investment firms to national real estate developers to senior living providers. SmartLiving 360's joint development with Federal Realty Investment Trust, The Stories at Congressional Plaza, is an age friendly apartment community in greater Washington, D.C. that has attracted national attention. Ryan publishes a consumer blog and other content at www.smartliving360.com. Ryan serves on the national advisory board of the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and is a Fellow for Nexus Insights, a think tank focused on new models of care and community for older adults. He is a graduate of Princeton and Stanford Business School and lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and three teenagers. Key Takeaways Today we need be intentional about spending time with people and developing a social fabric. Longevity is mostly attributable to your lifestyle and environment, not your genes. Staying in the single-family home you have lived in for decades is rarely the right strategy across all chapters of life. Aging in place can mean loneliness and inactivity. New housing options will deliver universal design and “smart home” features while coordinating services for people as needed.

Join BDO's Center for Corporate Governance Amy Rojik as she sits down with Cathy Moy, BDO Chief People Officer, to discuss company culture as a business imperative and the reasoning why culture must be center stage for boards as companies reposition their businesses and focus on growth in 2021 and beyond. From Cathy's unique vantage point, she has seen firsthand how a company's investment in its people positively impacts its bottom line – and long-term sustainability. Key Takeaways:Today, corporate culture is no longer a nice-to-have – it is a key driver of business and competitive advantage that must be top-of-mind for boards and the C-suite. Culture has to be foundational, drive from the top, for an organization to achieve the type of success that comes with employees who are fully bought into the company purpose and vision.Companies that approach key drivers of culture – from reimagining how work is accomplished to advancing DEI to investing in talent development and retention – have been, and will continue to be, the most resilient in the face of challenging times. Don't discount the importance of culture when considering M&A – if you don't have culture synergy and common vision for the future, the likelihood of successful integration decreases significantly. As part of the board's role in mitigating risk and providing strategic oversight of management, it must consider the implications that corporate culture has on organizational agility and ability to sustainably scale. Key Takeaways: Today’s topic is all about pain. TK developed a pain-relief product that is completely natural and it works instantly. When we have an energy blockage along our meridians it is what leads to pain. How can we unblock our energy points? After years of being a pharmacist, how did TK develop his cream? Everything in our body is connected, like a computer system. There is always an emotional component of any type of pain you experience and have. TK knows the veteran population has been neglected and suffers from chronic pain. This is why he incorporated a “buy 1 give 1” veteran program for his products. PTSD can be cured. By being dependent on opiates, it shuts off so many things within your body and stops you from healing. When we look at pain, we should look at the whole puzzle instead of looking at just the parts that hurt. TK has also developed a sexual rejuvenation cream to help couples.   Episode Summary: TK Huynh developed a cream to help people get off addictive pain meds and onto something more natural. As a pharmacist, he hated that he was contributing to the opiate problem and used ancient energy medicine and the latest technology to form his flagship product, MindBody Matrix’s Fast Acting Pain Relief Cream. TK shares his story and how he came to develop the product, and also shares his mission to help one million veterans find peace.   Guest Bio: It all started when Dr. TK Hyunh recognized his innate desire to help others stand back up. We've all been there - days where you're going along doing your thing, running your business and then you have an encounter that makes you SO mad. What do you do? How do you respond when you get stuck in the rut of negativity?  IN THIS EPISODE 0:34 Today we're talking about what to do when you're having a bad day. You have a business to run, your kids are driving you nuts and you just got off a bad phone call. It happens. You're not alone. Even those of us who have the tools to keep a positive mindset have a bad day. 1:26 There's going to be people who suck your energy that put you in a bad mood.  1:40 This is about arming you with the skills to shift your focus so you don't let others ruin your day. I'm not going to let it ruin my mood or my productivity. Here are 3 things to do when you have a negative encounter. 2:32 Take 5-minutes to be mad. I personally have a heavy bag and I love my heavy bag because I can go and beat this thing. It doesn't take 5 minutes but give yourself the full time to acknowledge it. After that, move your thoughts to something else. You can say "yes, I'm acknowledging this, but this is why I still like this person." What this is going to do is help to make the shift. You can find what you appreciate about the person. If you're really struggling, shift to something different instead of thinking about that person. Let yourself go on this rampage of happy thoughts. If your thoughts drift to negative thoughts, allow yourself to gently shift back to neutral thoughts. 6:15 You can certainly change your state. Changing your state will allow you to be in control. It's impossible to be in a bad mood if you're standing like superwoman. If you stand in a power pose, your body and mind will respond. This stance will help you get your mojo back and flip the switch on your bad day. 8:02 You can also change your environment. If you're surrounded and immersed in an environment where you can't even hear yourself think, take a 5-minute walk where you go through positive thoughts. It` will give you your energy back. 050 - Navigating The Emotional Guidance Scale

Raise Your Vibe

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 20, 2017 20:07

It's episode 50!!! We're talking about something really important in this episode - the emotional scale. This is something that will help you get where you want to be so dive in with me right now! IN THIS EPISODE 0:28 This is episode 50 of the podcast, can you believe that! You hanging out and listening to the podcast means so much. Thank you. 1:06 Today is also a special day because we're talking about the emotional guidance system. It's a system you can use to check in with yourself and your emotions. We often feel and think that mindset is about the mind and thoughts, and while that is true, there are patterns that come into the head and training yourself to think differently is important to getting control and changing the way you're thinking. 2:15 When it comes to your environment, what is attracting people and situations to you? It's your energy or your vibe. You know that this is true. When you get around a Debbie Downer, they start complaining and their work is awful, it drains you of your energy. When you operate in that space, or you're the downer and your constantly the victim and focusing on that negativity. You can be angry at others or at yourself, maybe you're worried about something, those feelings affect you and they put you in the state of negativity. You attract things that are the same energy. That guilt isn't going anywhere and you have to change the way you feel to get out of that. The law of attraction and the world around you doesn't respond to the thoughts you think, it responds to your energy. 5:37 If you want more money into your life, what reason do you want it for? If you want money to feel more joy, more freedom, it's the feeling that you desire, if you can start to get yourself into that vibration, then you can attract that to you. 6:35 So what am I talking about when I say emotional guidance scale? That means you're operating at a level 10 when you feel those things. This scale was adapted from The Law of Attraction books, were created by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I've found that it's easier to have 1-10 and they use a scale of 1-22. 8:08 I'd love for you to do a check in on your emotions and see what level or emotion you're feeling. If you're feeling worried, doubtful or scared the money isn't going to come in, you're attracting situations that will validate those feelings of worry. However, if you check yourself, you can reach for a higher level emotion. You can brainstorm a list of things in your life where you can make money. You can improve your mood and spend some time looking on Pinterest to spruce up some things so you can then sell them. 11:12 Music is one thing I use to up my mood. I play some hard rock, Kid Rock or Nickleback. I play the crazy music to change my mood. I play music that will intentionally move my mood from a lower emotion to a higher emotion. If I'm already somewhere at the top of the emotional scale, I put on something more peppy music like country music. I look around and am thankful for my life and feel abundance. 14:19 I also like EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique. It is a way to purge whatever is inside of me, the doubt, the insecure feelings so when I doubt that I am enough for something. It's saying words as you're tapping on those acupressure points, it's an easy way to combine vocal and acupressure. 16:10 I like to revisit my affirmations or my vision board when I'm at maybe a level 6 or 7. I do this when I want to feel inspired, and I want to not be content with where I am and I want to go up in levels. 16:53 Other great techniques are meditation, journaling, nature walks or go barefoot on the sand or grass. Exercise will do it. Change your physiological state. If you look in the mirror, and you just look in a slump, get yourself in the shower, put your sexiest panties on and do something to change your look. 18:00 Matching your vibration to the things you desire and want. When you do, you're going to attract the things you want. [bctt tweet="Matching your vibration to the things you desire and want - find out how now!" username="tonyarineer"] KEY TAKEAWAYS Today is also a special day because we're talking about the emotional guidance system.
