Interview with Timothy Froude, President & CEO of Sokoman Minerals Corp. Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/sokoman-minerals-tsxvsic-major-2024-drill-program-for-the-next-newfoundland-gold-discovery-5436Recording date: 29th November 2024Sokoman Minerals (TSXV:SIC) is poised for a transformative year in 2025 as it advances its diverse portfolio of gold and lithium projects in mining-friendly Newfoundland, Canada. Despite a challenging market backdrop, the company has positioned itself for success through strategic partnerships, innovative exploration techniques, and a disciplined focus on its core assets. The key catalyst on the horizon is the planned spin-out of the Killick lithium project into a new publicly-traded vehicle, Vinland Lithium. Discovered by Sokoman on one of its gold properties, Killick caught the eye of lithium developer Piedmont Lithium, which has invested to earn a 19.9% stake and committed $12 million in exploration funding over 36 months. With Piedmont's pending merger with Sayona Mining, Vinland will gain access to a broader project pipeline and technical expertise. Sokoman plans to dividend out Vinland shares to its own shareholders upon listing in early 2025.At the flagship Moose Head gold project, Sokoman is embarking on a two-phase bulk sampling program to demonstrate the potential for a high-grade, low-cost operation. The first 1,000 tonne sample will be extracted and processed in Q1, followed by an innovative selective high-grade sample using Nova Mirror technology in Q2.Recent trenching also revealed a previously unknown mineralized vein system in the Western Trend at Moose Head, opening up a new area for exploration in a part of the property unencumbered by water or swampy ground. Follow-up drilling is already underway. Over at the early-stage Fleur de Lys project, Sokoman is targeting Irish-type orogenic gold deposits similar to the 6Moz Curraghinalt deposit in Northern Ireland. Assays are pending from a 23-hole drill program completed in late 2024.With multiple irons in the fire, Sokoman offers investors exposure to both the long-term growth potential of lithium and the security of gold as a hedge against economic uncertainty. As CEO Tim Froude explains, "High-grade nuggety gold vein systems are notorious for trying to nail down, but Moose Head continues to deliver. A deep hole there is a potential game-changer that could happen on the first hole."In a market where many junior explorers are struggling to raise capital and advance their projects, Sokoman stands out as a company with a clear path forward. With the Killick spin-out, bulk samples at Moose Head, and drilling at Fleur de Lys, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of value creation for Sokoman shareholders. While early-stage exploration is inherently risky, the company's track record of attracting strategic partners and deploying cutting-edge technology suggests it is well-equipped to capitalize on the opportunities in front of it. For investors looking for a high-quality explorer with exposure to in-demand metals and near-term catalysts, Sokoman Minerals is a compelling consideration.View Sokoman Minerals' company: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/companies/sokoman-minerals-corpSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

In this lecture, Dr Anna Killick discusses her book, Politicians and Economic Experts: The Limits of Technocracy, an in-depth study of how politicians engage with economists and economic opinion. In recent years politics has seen an increasing role in economic policymaking for a technocracy of experts. How do politicians feel about this and how do they balance their political and ethical aims with economic expertise? In Politicians and Economic Experts: The Limits of Technocracy, Anna Killick offers an in-depth study of how politicians engage with economists and economic opinion. Based on interviews with politicians from the main parties in France, Germany, Denmark, the UK and USA, the book highlights the role economic opinion plays in politics and the tension that can arise between democracy and technocracy. While increasing numbers including on the left call for greater deference to economic experts, Killick argues we have no choice other than to trust politicians to continue to take the lead. This event took place on 20 June 2023. It forms part of the IPR's 'Polycrisis!' lecture series.

Abstract: Neuronal circuits evolve as a precisely patterned network. In this context, a growing neuron must locate the appropriate target area on a neurite of a neighbouring cell with which to connect. Controlled target selection involves dendritic filopodial contacts and requires the exact apposition of synaptic components. Calcium signalling has been postulated to trigger the transformation from dendritic filopodia into functional synapses. However, calcium is a rather unspecific signalling system, and it needs to be clarified how the exact development of synaptic connections is controlled. Similarly, Wnt/beta-catenin signalling promotes synapse formation; however, how secreted Wnts induce and maintain synapses on neuronal dendrites is not well understood. Here, we show that Wnt-7a is tethered to the tips of dynamic dendritic filopodia during spine formation in human cortical neurons. These filopodia can activate Wnt signalling precisely at the contact sites on the dendrites of an adjacent neuron. Subsequently, local calcium transients can be observed at these Wnt-positive contact sites. Depleting either the filopodial-loaded Wnt or the extracellular calcium pool blocks the clustering of pre- and post-synaptic markers, hence the establishment of stable connections. Therefore, we postulate that local Wnt-7a signalling from the tip of the dendritic filopodia, verified by simultaneous calcium signalling, provides an elegant mechanism for orchestrating focal synapse maturation. The relationship between politicians and economists has always been complicated, and it has become particularly rocky in Britain over the last decade. Divisions during the Brexit referendum prompted Michael Gove to quip that Britain had ‘had enough of experts' while a key pillar of Trussonomics was challenging existing economic institutions from the Treasury to the Bank of England and OBR. But technocrats remain a dominant force in economic policy making, and as politicians seek to overturn the UK's recent record of economic stagnation the relationship between these two disciplines is as important as ever. Have politicians and economists lost faith in each other, or is the picture more nuanced? What are the pros and cons of delegating more economic policy decision-making to experts? And how can politicians better improve voters' understanding of the economy, and respond to voters' economic concerns? The Resolution Foundation together with Political Quarterly are hosting an event to mark the publication of a new book Politicians and economic experts: the limits of technocracy by Anna Killick to debate and answer these questions. Joining Anna will be two of the leading economic thinkers in UK politics – David Gauke and Yvette Cooper, both of whom have served as Chief Treasury Secretaries and Work and Pensions Secretaries – to discuss how politicians can do economics better. Bev Killick is the definition of Too Far! Bev has gained attention from some of the biggest names among Australian comedians, all due to her unique ability to get people laughing and unable to stop. She keeps the laughs rolling, making her a very authentic voice among well-known comedians today. Bev has recently been the voice for “Aunty Mavis” in small animated film titled: “Little Johnny,” though she is involved in much more than this now and has been in the past. Many might know her from her bosom presence with “Bosom Buddy of Busting Out,” where she performed as one of the Bosom buddies. Bev also had a grand role in the infamous “Berlei Ad” affiliated with The Uplifting Tour of Australia, directly linked in with “Busting Out.” Her well bosomed figure gets attention to, but it is her ability to get everyone roaring in laughter everywhere she performs that counts the most!Bev has had opportunities other stand up comedians only dream of, having performed for more than 250,000 people by traveling with the sensational Puppetry of The Penis that has obviously gained her attention from critics and fans. The producers of the show wanted her for her originality and true comedic nature. Through this she has had appearances all across Australia, helping her name to become better known. She's also had the grand pleasure of working with Weird Al Yankovic, Gina Riley and Jane Turner with the production of Kath and Kim. If that isn't eye-catching enough, she held a panel member position with Beauty and the Beast, and has appeared as a guest on the famous show Pizza. Many shows that Bev has performed in have been nominated for numerous awards, with one of these being Joker Poker. This was nominated for a Green Room Award due to the innovation and originality that went into its creation. You might have also seen Bev at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and her appearance on ABC's MDA. She is an amazing comic, and one you would be more than happy with at your event. This week on The Get Down I was lucky enough to share a few hours with notorious prison escapee turned author, John Killick. A wealth of information with a gift of story telling blended with a willingness to share, combined with a level head devoid of ego. I could have spoken to John for 8 hours and still been on the edge of my seat asking for more. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity and can not thank John enough. ‘It's the economy, stupid'. That, famously, was one of the organising principles of Bill Clinton's campaign for the US presidency in 1992. Thirty years on, amidst a cost of living crisis, economic policy decisions still often dominate politics. Some of the debates about economic policy relate to questions of fundamental values: how much weight should we place, for example, on the size of the cake or on its distribution? But other debates focus on questions of fact. Would lowering taxes today fuel inflation? Did austerity a decade ago protect the public finances by bringing spending closer to tax receipts, or harm them by shrinking the economy and thereby diminishing the tax take? So, if fundamental questions at the heart of politics are, at least in principle, answerable by experts, that raises the question of what the relationship between elected politicians and expert economists should be. The Bank of England was given independent control over monetary policy 25 years ago. So should other areas of economic policy get similar technocratic treatment? Or does political control matter? To discuss these issues, UCL Uncovering Politics is joined by Dr Anna Killick, Research Fellow in the UCL Department of Political Science. Mentioned in this episode:A. Killick., Politicians and Economic Experts: The Limits of Technocracy (Newcastle: Agenda Publishing, 2022)

Today's episode is stepping into the realm of a little true crime podcasting.  I bumped into John Killick via social media when he listened to a recent episode this year... Little did I know I had just started to banter with the he who pulled off Australia's most daring prison escape! In 1999 John's girlfriend Lucy casually hijacked a helicopter at gunpoint (as you do) and ducked over Silverwater prison in Sydney to scoop up her love and bring him home... a modern day uber ride of sorts. John can tell some stories of his life that's for sure and I had to keep reminding myself that this was a non-fiction conversation. Dave Anderson joins Tim Fuell ahead of his side's FA Vase last 16 trip to Irlam this weekend. They are joined on the phone by Toby Macormac, Chairman of Warrington Town who currently sit atop the Northern Premier League. A very tight division he talks about the faith in has in manager Paul Carden and the constantly shifting milestones for his club in an ever changing business environment for a growing non league club. Tom Killick manager at Poole Town has just notched 800 games in charge having led the Dorset club from Step 6 up to Step 2 in his near 15 years in charge. After coming to terms with relegation from National South last term, his side are in a rich vein of form putting them on the edge of the play-offs in a very competitive Southern League Premier Division South. In a very honest reflection of his time so far in management Killick shows an insight that supports his win ratio of over 60% in those 800 plus games. Rounding off, Matt Badcock, Senior Writer of The Non League Paper discusses the week's FA Trophy results and the resulting draw for the next round, his forthcoming interview with Torquay United's Gary Johnson and the managerial change at Wrexham that sees former player Bryan Hughes in for Graham Barrow.
