Welcome back to The Peds NP Acute Care Faculty series! This series was created and peer-reviewed by national leaders in acute care PNP education collaborating with one another to meet the needs of our current and future colleagues. In the push for competency-based education where faculty verify the skills of what a student can do, rather than their knowledge, our series focuses on the application of didactic content with a practical approach so that you can learn nuances of clinical skills before you reach the bedside.  This episode explores wellness for the pediatric nurse practitioner. We first discuss burnout in terms of its physical and mental impact on the provider as well as poorer patient outcomes and healthcare systems burdens. After we identify symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue, we'll discuss what wellness looks like in various systems at work from organizational culture of wellness to ease of daily work and finally personal resilience. We end with a discussion on self-compassion and introduce the evidence in support of meditation as a strategy to promote mind-body wellness. For some, this concept is new, so the technical aspects of meditation are unpacked to facilitate your own path to daily wellness. Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: Police investigating murder of woman shot at south Gwinnett shopping center A woman was fatally shot Saturday night at a shopping center in Snellville. Gwinnett Police officers responded to the incident at 3541 Stone Mountain Highway around 7:30 p.m. and found the suspect being subdued by witnesses. The suspect was arrested, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved or a motive, but it may be domestic-related. The suspect is being questioned. Police urge anyone with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers, referencing Case No. 24-0042372. STORY 2: New Lawsuits Filed to stop Mulberry city council elections Stephen Hughes is trying to stop the new city of Mulberry's council elections following his unsuccessful attempt to block the city's creation. He has filed lawsuits against Gwinnett County and its elections board, arguing that Senate Bill 333, which established the referendum, violates the Georgia Constitution. The lawsuits aim to halt the November 5 council elections. If successful, a judge's ruling could prevent Mulberry from becoming Gwinnett County's 17th city on January 1, 2025. Mulberry supporters argue the lawsuits are driven by developers opposed to the city's formation, while Hughes challenges the bill's provisions on taxation and city services. STORY 3: Kemp heading to Korea on trade mission Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and First Lady Marty Kemp are leading a trade mission to South Korea with state legislators and representatives from various state departments. The trip, focused on strengthening existing business relationships, will include meetings with executives from Hyundai, Kia, CJ Foodville, LG, SK, and Hanwha Qcells, many of which are part of Georgia's growing electric vehicle industry. Break 2: TOM WAGES   STORY 4: Jackson EMC Foundation Awards $95K to Agencies Serving Gwinnett The Jackson EMC Foundation board awarded $140,000 in grants, with $95,000 going to organizations in Gwinnett County. Recipients include Camp Kudzu, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia, Rachel's Gift, Spectrum Autism Support Group, Camp Amplify, MUST Ministries, Quinlan Visual Arts, and Foster Siblings Reunited. These grants support programs for children with diabetes, bereavement care, autism support, arts education, and more. Funded by the Operation Round Up program, the Foundation has given over $20.6 million to local communities since 2005. Applications for grants are open to individuals and organizations in the 10 counties served by Jackson EMC. STORY 5: Two Gwinnett Schools Name New Principals Gwinnett County's school board has appointed new principals for Creekland Middle School and Duluth High School. Tyese M. Scott, former principal of McKendree Elementary School, will replace the retiring Kimberly Gillette at Creekland Middle. Cynthia "Cindy" A. Kinchen, previously principal at Duluth Middle School, will take over from Eric Davidson, who has been promoted, at Duluth High. Scott has 29 years in education, including 16 in Gwinnett, while Kinchen has an 18-year career within Gwinnett County Public Schools. Both bring extensive experience and advanced degrees in education to their new roles. #066 - Today our guest is Ayodele Kinchen, a gifted and self taught artist, designer, and visionary.  With a keen eye and talent for design, she finds joy creating wearable art that transforms the everyday woman into a Queen, and aims to design pieces that heal, encourage, honor, and beautify the mind, body, and spirit.Her business started by making things for herself - handmade goods like jewelry, home decor, clothing, and handbags.  People started asking, “Hey, where'd you get that from?”  So she started making stuff for other people.  But, when she started making waist beads, her business exploded.“I have been wearing them since I was a child.  I knew and understood the traditional practice of wearing them so I felt if I decided to actually make them for others, I can equip people with additional knowledge and context behind why they're worn.  So I felt really good about adding that to my collection of goods, however, once I added that as a collection of items that I would include under my business name, it took off like crazy. And it's basically, it took over my entire business making handbags and jewelry and everything else.” We thought we were talking to an artist, but found out we were talking to a culture keeper, a change maker, a healer, and a counselor.  Ayodele's customers love her, evident by the repeat bookings for private parties.  But, the best compliments have come from the women who told her she literally changed their lives, one actually calling her a healer.Be sure to listen to the whole interview to hear how Ayodele bet on herself - leaving her full time 9 to 5 while pregnant with her 3rd child and never looking back.

New research from the Young Women's Trust paints a bleak picture for many young women as they come out of the pandemic and into the cost of living crisis, with young mums experiencing particular disadvantages. We hear from young mums Charlotte and Jyndi, and speak to Claire Reindorp CEO of the Young Woman's Trust. Rosie Kinchen found herself in despair after the birth of her second child. She was deeply depressed and the baby failed to thrive. After rescuing an ailing houseplant and experiencing an unexpected joy at the wilting aloe's recovery she started dragging herself out of the house to look at plants in supermarkets and garden centres. With the redoubtable botanical artist Marianne North as a guide Rosie comes to see her life, her work and her city through new eyes. The Ballast Seed is her memoir. One of the UK's worst modern disasters, it will soon be the fifth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower fire. Seventy-two people died. The artist Tuesday Greenidge is sewing a quilt the size of Grenfell Tower to "symbolise justice" for survivors and the people affected. The singer Sophie DeMasi was involved in a song called West Side Story which came out this year in honour of the anniversary. They join Emma to discuss how art can help in the aftermath of such tragedy.

Ayodele Kinchen is a native and current resident of East Palo Alto (EPA).
