Welcome back to The Peds NP Acute Care Faculty series! This series was created and peer-reviewed by national leaders in acute care PNP education collaborating with one another to meet the needs of our current and future colleagues. In the push for competency-based education where faculty verify the skills of what a student can do, rather than their knowledge, our series focuses on the application of didactic content with a practical approach so that you can learn nuances of clinical skills before you reach the bedside. This episode explores wellness for the pediatric nurse practitioner. We first discuss burnout in terms of its physical and mental impact on the provider as well as poorer patient outcomes and healthcare systems burdens. After we identify symptoms of burnout and compassion fatigue, we'll discuss what wellness looks like in various systems at work from organizational culture of wellness to ease of daily work and finally personal resilience. We end with a discussion on self-compassion and introduce the evidence in support of meditation as a strategy to promote mind-body wellness. For some, this concept is new, so the technical aspects of meditation are unpacked to facilitate your own path to daily wellness. This episode pairs well with the 5-minute meditation for pediatric providers. References: Berwick, D. M., Nolan, T. W., & Whittington, J. (2008). The triple aim: care, health, and cost. Author Shay Davis discusses her toxic traits and so much more. Join us for a lively discussion about Kira and Haneef's toxic love. Hurt people, hurt people. No truer words have ever been spoken when it comes to Kira McDaniels trying to find her place in the world. Growing up in a broken and toxic home has left her unable to show love, and more importantly, receive love. How can one accept love from another when her own parents abandoned her and left her to fend for herself mentally, emotionally, and physically? Kira pushed through life with a hard exterior protecting her and focused on being better than her parents. However, the lack of guidance as a young woman has left her broken, and Kira doesn't know what to do when Haneef Young walks into her life, showing her things could be different. Haneef is not a perfect man by any means. He grew up in the streets, worked hard to get his business off the ground, and stayed on his grind to get away from illegal dealings. Focused on his money and his end goal, Haneef wasn't looking for love. It was something he had very little experience with, however, as soon as he laid eyes on Kira, he saw the bright aura trapped behind beautiful dark eyes and wanted to free her from her pain. No matter how hard she tried to push him away, Haneef always showed up, letting Kira know that she had someone in her corner. Kira and Haneef's journey to love is anything but easy. The two experience many trials and tribulations… but love is a beautiful thing. Take this journey with Kira and Haneef to find out if love can truly conquer all

Episode 5: Monotheism Before Islam Welcome to Seerah Pearls, which aims to highlight some tantalising learning points from each episode of the Seerah- Life of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam). Although idol worship was rampant in Pre-Islamic Arabic, there remained a few people who followed the religion of Prophet Ibrahim- the ‘Hunafa', and these individuals are explored. The singular form ‘Haneef' means to ‘focus constantly'. Two notable personalities include: 1. Zaid bin Amr bin Nufayl: he travelled outside Arabia in search of the true message. He strongly denied idolatry and its associated practices, as well as saving newborn girls from being buried alive. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is narrated to have said that he will be resurrected as an Ummah by himself between the Prophet Muhammed (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) and Isa bin Maryam (alaihissalam). 2. Waraqa bin Nawfal: he also travelled with Zaid bin Amr bin Nufayl to explore the truth, and converted to Christianity. A cousin of Khadija, the wife of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam), Waraqa was the person consulted after the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) received the first revelation. He proclaimed his belief, but died soon after. The lineage of the Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) is explored back to Prophet Adam (alaihissalam).

In this lesson, Shaykh Faraz looks at the key verses in the Quran related to Hajj, corresponding to the seventh chapter of Imam Ghazali's Ihya. He highlights the verses 27-32 from Surah Al-Hajj, which outline the meaning and purpose of Hajj. وَأَذِّن فِى ٱلنَّاسِ بِٱلْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ لِّيَشْهَدُوا۟ مَنَٰفِعَ لَهُمْ وَيَذْكُرُوا۟ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ فِىٓ أَيَّامٍ مَّعْلُومَٰتٍ عَلَىٰ مَا رَزَقَهُم مِّنۢ بَهِيمَةِ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ ۖ فَكُلُوا۟ مِنْهَا وَأَطْعِمُوا۟ ٱلْبَآئِسَ ٱلْفَقِيرَ "Proclaim the pilgrimage to all people, they will come to you on foot and they'll come on all kind of mount emerging from every deep mountain pass. In order to witness all kinds of benefits for them and in order to remember the name of Allah for a known number of days for what Allah has provided for them. So feed yourself of that livestock and give to feed the destitute and the unfortunate… “ [Quran 22, 27-28] In these verses Allah tells us some of the spiritual aims of Hajj. The Pilgrimage has many acts of worship each of which has its own benefits. Each act is done out of submission to Allah and to the extent to which it is done with that intention you will find benefit in it. People with respect to Hajj are of 3 types: [1] Those who go to Hajj unprepared and that is foolishness, they gain some benefit but miss out on a lot. [2] Those who prepare outwardly only for the Hajj, and that is important. [3] Those who prepare outwardly but also understand why they are doing it. One should prepare well advance to Hajj. One of the highly recommended resources for this is Imam Ghazali's Chapter on Hajj (or as translated in the book Inner Dimensions of Islamic Worship) that details the spiritual benefits of Hajj. Imam Al-Ghazali describes Hajj as a reenactment of resurrection and the Hereafter or as a reenactment of the various challenges of life. The metaphor of tawaf is a metaphor of love so throughout our day we keep turning towards the One we love through prayer. However, the believer wants to express more fully the nature of their love to Allah and the Hajj expresses that. ثُمَّ لْيَقْضُوا۟ تَفَثَهُمْ وَلْيُوفُوا۟ نُذُورَهُمْ وَلْيَطَّوَّفُوا۟ بِٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْعَتِيقِ ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ حُرُمَٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦ ۗ وَأُحِلَّتْ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْعَٰمُ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلرِّجْسَ مِنَ ٱلْأَوْثَٰنِ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ قَوْلَ ٱلزُّورِ "so let the pilgrims perform their acts of cleansing, fulfil their vows, and circle around the Ancient House.” “All this [is ordained by God]: anyone who honors the sacred ordinances of God will have good rewards from His Lord…” [Quran 22, 29-30] In these verses Allah reminds us that this is a devotional act and that we are servants to Allah as such we carry out the acts of devotion in the way He ordained not in the ways we prefer. And he who associates with Allah - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place. That [is so]. And whoever honors the signs of Allah - indeed it is from the piety of the hearts.” [Quran 22, 31-32] In closing, verses 31 and 32 are a description of what is at the heart of partaking in Hajj embodied by the one who built the Ka'ba, Prophet Ibrahim. He was upright in his devotion to Allah. The Haneef is the one who seeks Allah in all that they do. The lesson of Hajj is to make your whole life revolve around Allah. The requirement of that is outlined in the last verse: to have taqwa of Allah through considering everything that has a relation to A...
