Anika and Liz don their gaudiest statement necklaces and medallions and get the band back together for an adventure in Millennial Greige, 46 years before TikTok invented that concept. Yes! It's time to discuss Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and yes, this episode is 90 minutes long, but please note that's still shorter than the movie itself. And we have a lot to talk about! Such as... Content note: In 2014, actor Stephen Collins admitted to "inappropriate sexual conduct with three female minors". We have chosen to talk about his character, but not his performance - as far as the two can be separated. Hot take: we like The Motion Picture Anika argues that Spock is the protagonist of The Motion Picture. Kirk is also in this movie. It's too often forgotten that Persis Khambatta is the first woman of colour to play the female lead in a Star Trek film (which is separate from the problem where, up until 2009, the films kept introducing new female leads rather than ever developing Uhura…) "My oath of celibacy is on record." Gene. What the fuck. Season 4 of Discovery has a lot of The Motion Picture in its DNA … and so does SNW! (Anika has a strong argument that Christine's characterisation in SNW owes more to this film than TOS) Possibly our most controversial opinion: we mostly like the uniforms Antimatter Pod: "We don't ship Kirk/Spock." Also Antimatter Pod: " Anyone who thinks that this movie is not about Kirk and Spock being in love is not watching this movie." Anika tells Liz about The Lost Years by JM Dillard, queen of the fiery red-haired psychic OFC
¡Feliz Nerdsgiving!
PARTY OF LINCOLN! We continue to look at Star Trek's BIG SWINGS with the episode where literally Abraham Lincoln beams aboard the Enterprise. It's a classic Star Trek story that includes wacky 1960s predictions about the future, alien gods pitting our crew against the forces of evil itself for their own amusement, and some really unsubtle Kirk-Spock slashfic material. Joining Bryan this week is returning guest Andrew Bloom (@TheAndrewBlog and andrewbloom.substack.com). Will they Trek, Marry, or Kill it?The grades begin at (26:18).
Live long and prosper! It's another Star Trek episode as this week, Emily and V venture into an alien cave to learn about "Shelter" by Leslie Fish and Joanne Agostino, AKA, the first Kirk/Spock slash fic. Fellas, is it gay to confess your love to your commanding officer in an alien cave and consummate your relationship with tender, tender sex? And fellas, is it problematic that Bones was also there? (Side note, apologies for the late releases of episodes this month. We're working hard to get back on track. Life happened.)
We discuss Kirk and Spock from the Kelvin timeline Star Trek Films (Star Trek (2009); Star Trek: Into Darkness; and Star Trek Beyond). Kelsey suffers.Follow the show on Twitter at @ltbkpod and on Tumblr at ltbkpod.tumblr.com
Happy Fourth and more importantly happy Hannah's birthday! Today we boldly go where nowhere has gone before and sort the crew members from the bridge of the USS Enterprise into houses. So half the episode is solely about Kirk, and then Spock, and then KirkandSpock, who cares? We're just following the example the show sets okay. You can't blame us, and how perfect they are as their house representatives, and how fascinating that makes their relationship. It's okay. We're all okay. We're just shipping the oldest and most worthy slash ship of all time. We love this episode, please take a listen.
What, November 3rd again? That's right, IHOY-heads! A surprise return to that landmark date in television spanning the decades of It Happened One Year! After an intro by friend of the show and The Visitors to Nova Scotia cast member Danielle Harris, Sarah & Joe take a generous look at three more shows from that fateful Friday - NBC's Accidental Family (airing directly after Star Trek), ABC's western Hondo (the only ABC show from 11/3/67 still available, apparently), and NBC's Kirk/Spock lead-in, Tarzan! Alongside the previously covered CBS offerings Wild, Wild West and Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C., a free-ranging discussion of this genre-swinging evening of entertainment commences, covering everything from Ron Ely's side-butt to the Bonanza theme redone for Rawhide to Nick taking over the bar from Martini in It's a Wonderful Life! Plus, stick around to the end to hear 14 new seconds of audio from the upcoming Visitors mini-series!
We discuss Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, Last of Us and some news and rumors. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/black-cinematic-universe/message
This week! The Menagerie Part II (Star Trek: The Original Series) versus A Race to the Finish (Star Wars: Droids)We start our ep with answering some listener questions. The second film entry for our original cast -- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan -- reinvigorated the franchise after The Motion Picture drew big bucks but tepid critical reviews. A lesser version of Khan might have put the nail in Star Trek's coffin. Thankfully, it didn't, and forty years later we're still chugging away through the Alpha Quadrant. Let's explore why, with Kirk & Khaaaaaaan!, Kirk & Spock, Kirk & Carol & David, Chekov and the ear bug (*shudder*), the Enterprise & the Reliant, and the birth of a new Episode Sponsor: Genesis To-Go! Bicks Log: Is The Wrath of Khan a perfect/the best encapsulation of what makes Star Trek what it is? Notes: Monster Maroon Trek Culture Aidan here: Lindsay...Bruce McLean??? Episode 6: Feminism Why is Wikipedia sexist? Why did women Star Trek novelists plummet after the 1980s? Would you drive 15 hours for a Kirk/Spock fan fiction? Where are the women science consultants? Why is cosplay so important? Listen as Ashlyn and Rhianna discuss the most incredible women who take part and have a hand in the Star Trek Universe. This is the sixth episode of our Feminism series, where Ashlyn and Rhianna celebrate the awesome women in each Star Trek show, starting with The Original Series and ending with Prodigy. It's the 200th episode of Ceti Alpha 3! Darren, Daniel, and Phillip take a moment to celebrate in the spirit of the season - by creating three different Star Trek holiday specials, spread across the age of the franchise! A Klingon Kristmas - Darren takes us to 1986 and The Original Series crew, as Captain Kruge encounters some issues in his plan to attack the Enterprise-A. Will Scotty be able to decorate the tree in time? Will a certain musical group with the same name as a certain super secret planet-making project appear? Will any of the sets look convincing? A Christmas Q-rol - Daniel beams us to 2005, right before the last episode of "Star Trek: Enterprise." Season Greetings have arrived to the 22nd Century, and they have Ambassador Soval questioning whether human holiday traditions are compatible with a federation of planets. Before Captain Archer can soothe his fears, Q shows up! From there, Soval and Archer travel (not leap!) thru time, looking at all the human/Vulcan relationships, from Janeway/Tuvok, Kirk/Spock, and an infamous baseball game in the Deep Space Nine holosuite. Zoom into Charity - Phillip returns us to the present day with a socially-distanced charity special, co-hosted by "Lower Decks" co-stars Tawny Newsome and Jack Quaid. Celebrities and musicians will provide some Trek-tainment, along with some special appearances by actors from "Picard," "Discovery," and the Kelvin-verse films. Stay tuned for an exciting teaser of "Star Trek: Strange, New Worlds" at the end! Bonus: But wait, there's more! There is also a bonus holiday special featuring a certain Ferengi, his attempt to "steal" Christmas, er, the Gratitude Festival from the Bajorans and his ill-fated escape to the Gamma Quadrant to sell all the toys.

A new Star Trek series will join the franchise! As fans celebrate the announcement of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” the trio reflect on another series being set around The Original Series era. Eric Berry of the podcasts “Ranger Command Power Hour” and “The StarFleet Escape Podcast” joins to compare how the Power Ranger franchise gravitates to the original “Mighty Morphin'” era with how Trek keeps returning to its Kirk/Spock-time origins. Is the TOS-era filled with unexplored facets? Do the fans just want more Spock? How did “Enterprise,” “Discovery,” and the Kelvin universe films renew TOS?

My former colleague at WNYC Stephanie Billman guides me through the landscape of fan fiction, debunking many of my preconceptions. We talk with Francesca Coppa, author of The Fanfiction Reader and one of the creators of the fan fic site Archive of Our Own. Britta Lundin, a writer on the CW's Riverdale, explains why writing fan fiction was a great way to train for writing TV. And fan fiction writer Savannah Stoehr explains why Kirk/Spock is the great love story of our time. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Learn more about your ad choices. Jason and Anthony are back at in again! After several years of teaming up on the queer comic podcast, Scarlet Betch, we're starting a brand new podcast on everything queer and nerdy. This week we go into a queer reading of Pixar's recent film Inside Out, talk about Dylan Marron (Welcome to Night Vale) and his Every Single Word video series that calls out the dearth of speaking roles for people of color, and squee about the coming Marvel Universe after the Secret Wars crossover. We also have a special bonus segment: a dramatic reading of slashfic. Today's selection is a wonderful Kirk/Spock fic about Kirk getting a tramp stamp. It's comedy gold. E-mail us your questions and comments at queerpresentdanger (at) gmail.com or tweet us at QPDpod
Anthony and Jason catch up over Ant-Man, the new Jem & the Holograms comic series, gush about the latest developments in our favorite animated tv show, Stephen Universe, and groan at the missed opportunity that is Disney's Descendants. But that's not all! After a rip-roaringly fun debut of Master-Slashfiction Theater last episode with some ridiculous Kirk/Spock fic, we're delving into pre-WW2 sexuality angst with this steamy Steve/Bucky fic by jacquez: http://archiveofourown.org/works/196281

Picard/Riker Relationship. The Kirk/Spock relationship dominates all other depictions between characters in Star Trek. That said, the captain/first officer dynamic of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander William T. Riker created a unique and interesting command team for TNG fans. The beard-less, energetic, and fun-loving former first officer of the U.S.S. Hood that we met in "Encounter at Farpoint" was mentored by the senior commander, formerly of the starship Stargazer, for seven years on television and throughout four motion pictures before earning the right to call him a fellow captain. Daniel, Darren, and Phillip discuss how Picard and his Number One learned to lead the Enterprise-D together, their ups and downs, and how a rocky introduction led to a wonderful relationship that would guide the ship and crew through several adventures.Earl Grey discusses moments of Picard versus Riker in episodes like "The Best of Both Worlds," "Peak Performance," and "The Measure of a Man," as well as times the two officers "pranked" one another in "Captain's Holiday" and "Gambit, Parts 1 and 2." The trio focus on Riker's pursuits of the Enterprise's center chair and Picard's mentoring of Will in order for him to finally evolve into the seasoned Captain Riker of the U.S.S. Titan.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserEditor / ProducerDarren MoserExecutive ProducersNorman C. Devil's Due. We've all heard the expression “selling your soul to the Devil.” The people of Ventax II took this perhaps a bit too literally when nature started getting restless and a con-artist with a claim to the planet showed up. Who can save the day? Well, Kirk, of course. We mean Picard. This is a TNG episode, after all. Only it isn't. In this episode of The Ready Room, we're joined by Daniel Proulx, Jarrah Hodge, and Zachary Fruhling to discuss all things Ardra, how the script for “Devil's Due” was repurposed for TNG from the aborted Phase II series, how societies fall into apocalyptic thinking, whether Picard's role would have worked better with Kirk, and much more. In our news segment, we discuss the first major update to the Star Trek Encyclopedia in 16 years, leaked photos from the next film, and who we think the Star Trek Beyond villain might be.
