This week we're discussing every album by Sunny Day Real Estate. While they were a massive part of establishing emo as a genre in the mid to late 90s, you'd be a fool to dismiss these guys as just another emo band. Sunny Day has more in common with post-hardcore than with what we consider emo. Leave any biases at the door because this band rules.Closing track: “Pillars” from How It Feels to Be Something On (1998)Patreonhttps://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerchhttps://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Mike's EP:Pander Monkey on Bandcamp, Spotify, Apple,Instagram:Mike @pandermonkeyAlex @everyalbumalexHistory Tom's stuff:New album on BandcampDebut album on Bandcamp, Spotify, AppleSubstackWebsiteMike's Picks:Sunny Day Real Estate (1995) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteThe Rising Tide (2000) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex's Picks:How It Feels to Be Something On (1998) — Best Album, Personal FavoriteThe Rising Tide (2000) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Diary (1994)Sunny Day Real Estate (aka LP2; The Pink Album) (1995)How It Feels to Be Something On (1998)The Rising Tide (2000)

Prolific R&B artist Jesse Maxwell joins the show to discuss his sophomore album "LP2"! Produced by Jesse in collaboration on select tracks from Toronto producer Andres Neupert, LP2 showcases Jesse's effortlessly soulful vocals and range as a producer and player, but also his deft ability to distill elements of classic and cutting-edge R&B and soul into a sound that's uniquely his own. In just three years Jesse Maxwell has indeed gone from 0 to 100: racking up over one million streams to date, becoming a regular fixture on indie radio across Canada; making inroads internationally (via a #1 on the People's Soul Choice Charts on the UK's Delite Radio); and gaining a well-deserved reputation as a prolific, deeply lyrical storyteller and a distinctively compelling voice in modern soul. This is a REPOST of Episode 100. Sunny Day Real Estate was an American rock band from Seattle, Washington. They were one of the early emo bands and helped establish the genre. In 1994, the band released their debut album Diary on Sub Pop Records to critical acclaim. However, shortly after releasing their second album LP2, the band broke up, with members Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith joining Foo Fighters and Jeremy Enigk embarking on a solo career. In 1997, they regrouped long enough to record two more studio albums and a live album but ultimately disbanded once again in 2001. The band reunited again in 2009. Bassist Nate Mendel, who chose to remain with Foo Fighters during the previous reunion in 1997, took part in this reunion. In 2014 the band released one song from those sessions, "Lipton Witch," on a split 7" vinyl with Circa Survive on Record Store Day. I got William on the Skype and this is what we talk about: My sunny day tattoo story What drumming has done to him physically What was his scene How the band got together Diary's artwork Breaking up right when they were taking off Red Elephant Trying to find inspiration to make music again Recording Rising Tide Working through anxiety Their unreleased album And a ton more Check out William's band, Assertion Check out my new book The Couples' Checklist for my webcomic dailyBred. Hello Friends! Today we continue our journey with The Beatles in 1968, covering LP2 of The BEATLES (better known as The White Album), and even diving in to the two cuts from the sessions released on 45, Hey Jude & Revolution. In this half, things start to get a bit dark, a bit weird, but who doesn't love it when the Fab Four get weird...? So let's get munching on a Savoy Truffle with Honey Pie in tow, and let us finish off this beast of an album! Lo Tom - "Start Payin'," from the 2020 self-released album LP2. Back in 2017, David Bazan and TW Walsh of Pedro the Lion teamed up with Trey Many and Jason Martin of Starflyer 59 to create Lo Tom, whose self-titled debut combined all the things we love about each of their respective bands: melodic, ‘90s-influenced rock, heavy with guitar riffs. As the band said themselves, "We had fun making the first album, so we decided to do it again." The sophomore release was funded by fans via Kickstarter, and while they say today's Song of the Day is "coincidentally named," the lyric "might be time to find out what I owe and start paying" seems pretty appropriate here. I got William on the Skype and this is what we talk about: My sunny day tattoo story What drumming has done to him physically What was his scene How the band got together Diary’s artwork Breaking up right when they were taking off Red Elephant Trying to find inspiration to make music again Recording Rising Tide Working through anxiety Their unreleased album And a ton more Check out William's band, Assertion This episode is sponsored by www.houseofmerch.com/ where you can buy band merch and get 10% off by using promo code "scene" when you check out. Sunny Day Real Estate has famously been a band of influence but impermanence, with multiple break-ups and rumors of an unfinished album in the can for over a decade. On their second release, the 1995 self-titled or Pink Album or LP2, vocalist/guitarist/lyricist Jeremy Enigk left unfinished vocals as placeholders as the band splintered. What it creates is something unique, while words or phrases pop in occasion, the majority of the record utilizes the vocals as an instrument in a way that a band like My Bloody Valentine features vocalist Bilinda Butcher. But what makes SDRE special is the contributions from all four members - who each get their moment to shine in a way that recalls 1970s progressive rock without overly-long world-building and self-indulgence. ¿O no?

к. LP2.
