In this episode, we sit down with attorney and advocate Julie Marzouk to explore the intersection of immigration, antisemitism, and violence against women—and what the first weeks of Trump's second term reveal about the legal landscape for combating antisemitism. We discuss the Trump administration's executive order on antisemitism, new federal investigations into college campuses, and the formation of a multi-agency task force to address rising antisemitic incidents in schools and universities. How will these policies impact Jewish students and communities? We also examine Trump's aggressive immigration enforcement, including the Texas National Guard's expanded authority to arrest migrants, and what this means for broader legal and humanitarian concerns. Join us for a deep dive into the legal and policy challenges shaping the Jewish community today—plus what advocates like Julie Marzouk are doing to fight for justice.
Ep 48 with Dr. Mariola Marzouk (Vortex Risk Ltd.)In this episode of Regulatory Ramblings, Dr. Mariola Marzouk, an AML expert who has co-founded Vortex Risk Ltd., shares her insights on trade-based money laundering (TBML), and her philosophy on financial crime prevention. She talks about her approach to leveraging RegTech, the importance of human judgment in AML, and her critique of the global financial regulatory landscape. She also discusses regulatory compliance technologies for their failure to effectively combat money laundering and argues that despite claims of innovation and disruption, these technologies focus more on regulatory adherence than understanding the complexities of financial crime. Marzouk contends that while these tools may expedite compliance processes, they do little to reduce criminal activities or address broader social injustices like poverty and sanctions evasion. She suggests a disconnect between industry claims and their actual impact on financial crime prevention.Read more about this podcast and Dr. Mariola Marzouk at www.hkufintech.com/regulatoryramblingsHKU FinTech is the leading fintech research and education in Asia. Appealing to Monster Theory and the ancient Near Eastern motif of "Chaoskampf," Safwat Marzouk argues that the paradoxical character of the category of the monster is what prompts the portrayal of Egypt as a monster in the book of Ezekiel. While on the surface the monster seems to embody utter difference, underlying its otherness there is a disturbing sameness. Though the monster may be defeated and its body dismembered, it is never completely annihilated. As Marzouk explains in Egypt as a Monster in the Book of Ezekiel (Mohr Siebeck, 2015), Egypt is portrayed as a monster in the book of Ezekiel because Egypt represents the threat of religious assimilation. Although initially the monstrosity of Egypt is constructed because of the shared elements of identity between Egypt and Israel, the prophet flips this imagery of monster in order to embody Egypt as a monstrous Other. In a combat myth, YHWH defeats the monster and dismembers its body. Despite its near annihilation, Egypt, in Ezekiel's rhetoric, is not entirely obliterated. Rather, it is kept at bay, hovering at the periphery, questioning Israel's identity. Learn more about your ad choices. Evonne Marzouk is the author of the Jewish novel The Prophetess. She was also the founder and former Executive Director of a Jewish environmental organization called Canfei Nesharim, and is currently a board member of its successor organization, GrowTorah. She worked with rabbis, scientists, educators and community leaders to create and distribute Torah teachings on the environment. Evonne has worked at the United States Environmental Protection Agency for over 20 years. Evonne also created Heroine's Journal: A Jewish Mystical Journey of Growing into Your Gifts, to empower Jewish women to live their greatest dreams. Evonne speaks in detail about the process of forgiving someone who has hurt you. Step 1: be willing to fully feel the pain that the person caused you Step 2: be willing to acknowledge that you don't know every detail in the situation (you don't know what that person was thinking at the time they hurt you, what you may have needed to learn from being hurt, etc.) Step 3: make space in your heart (feel compassion) for the imperfect person who hurt you in order to forgive them with your whole heart When you are trying to forgive someone, it is helpful to process your feelings. One way to do that is to write down your feelings in a journal or notebook. Writing takes the feelings out of your head and body, and puts them on paper. It is also very important to understand that no one is perfect and that we need to have compassion for the other person's imperfections and humanity. Ultimately, forgiveness is a choice. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vera-kessler/message

In the ongoing narrative of creation, now in its concluding chapters, the Jewish story is akin to that of a superhero. Ken Spiro, in his book "Destiny," highlights how the structure of any superhero tale mirrors that of the Jewish people. In this interview, I talk with Evonne Marzouk, the author of "The Prophetess." Through her novel, writings, and public speaking, she stands on the front lines, utilizing her extraordinary abilities in writing and speaking to evoke the hero within each of us.The present moment calls for us to embrace our unique strengths and encourage their emergence in our fellow Jews. By doing so, we can play our part in bringing the concluding episodes of the creation story to fruition, in alignment with the Creator's vision. Our collective aim is to rid the world of evil and restore it to a state of peace and harmony. This transformation will pave the way for the earthly realm to reflect the intended revelation of the Almighty, as envisioned from the outset of this grand narrative.Click here to order your copy of “The Prophetess,” by Evonne Mazouk in Kindle, Hardcover or Paperback. ★ Support this podcast ★

In episode 115 I'm speaking with Carol Marzouk, the Executive Lion Tamer. According to Carol, ''We're all icebergs. We have stuff everyone sees and then stuff that they don't. The trick is to get underneath the iceberg in a non-invasive way so you understand people's currency. Even if you've been with them for 30 years, you can ask questions like, ‘'You know, I know we've worked together for a long time, and shame on me for not asking sooner, but I've been thinking about how important you are to me. And I want to know, where do you see yourself in a year?'' TALKING POINTS [2:15] What's the story around how you gained the title, ‘'Executive Lion Tamer'' please Carol? [8:50] There are 3 types of aggressive behavior: · physical and verbal aggression · active aggression · passive aggression. [25:12] Many times we'll say that person just doesn't listen. A tool to use is to listen with a pen. You can say, ‘'What you're saying is so important to me that I'm going to write down as much as I can.'' [27:44] When you go through the stages of engage and inspire, then the last piece is unite, unite the team. And this is where you really not only have culture by design, you design your culture, bringing everyone together and uniting them as a cohesive team that has each other's backs. F [30:43] I should be asking them about where they want to head in their career. You ask them, what are your motivators? What gets you excited? How do you like to learn? How do you like to complete projects? Do you like to be told step by step or told just the outcome and then you figure out the how? It's having these dialogues to get underneath the surface and make people feel valued. This shocking display of French state violence triggered large-scale protests, particularly amongst the country's Muslim, African, and Arab populations, long boiling over racist and classist structures staunchly rooted in French history and identity as displayed in its brutal colonial legacy. What is the role of France's colonial hangover in all of this? Where do racism, secularism and Islamophobia fit in? How about class inequality? And what comes next? To discuss this and more, Rania Khalek was joined by Yasser Louati, a political analyst and head of the Committee for Justice & Liberties in France. This is just the first half of this episode. Savvy digital marketers leverage user identification to create genuinely custom experiences for their customers because identity is a crucial part of today's online landscape. Nancy Marzouk of MediaWallah joins me on the SEJ show to discuss the concept of identity data and how it becomes an integral part of digital advertising. In addition, we discuss the critical elements to have in place to create a successful approach. We also get into clean rooms and clean tech vs. a "black box" approach and how AWS, Google & Snowflake's impacts on the ID data market will look like. There's a lot that needs to go into how I design my identity strategy to fit not only the privacy talk about data governance and all that fun stuff but also works within the industry that I'm in and deals with the marketing stack that I've invested in. So that's really where identity by design comes in. It helps you understand. We help people understand the pieces of what a sustainable building-up of your identity graph might look like. –Nancy Marzouk, 06:19 The fact that the cookies were anonymous and that the workflow that was present for cookies was acceptable, but it's no longer viable when you're starting to deal with the first-party data. Because it's very sensitive information, creating a more secure workflow will be very important in the future. With that being said, it doesn't mean that retargeting goes away. It just looks a little different. –Nancy Marzouk, 10:41 With cookies and mobile going away, what it does is it brings the advertiser and the publisher closer together. –Nancy Marzouk, 16:15 00:00 - About Nancy. 05:00 - What is identity, and why is it important? 08:46 - Can you still retarget in the future? 11:47 - Is it going to be better or worse for advertising? 22:51 - Does a publisher have to work with every identity solution? 35:29 - A scenario ID platforms can identify. 38:47 - How to transition to ID. Resources mentioned: MediaWallah - https://mediawallah.com/ There are different parts of identity. First, there's being able to identify an event or a session or something happening in a browser or something happening in the app so that you can do that targeting right then and there based on what the platform is that you're using. And then there's how do I take all that information and connect it to an individual or a user so that I can perhaps do some sophisticated audience modeling or attribution? –Nancy Marzouk, 26:12 It seems like the past three years. Google's been serving more and more publisher sites that are reviews or product-oriented reviews, recipe sites, whatever on the publisher side, as opposed to going directly to the source. So I think it will make that real estate more important from an advertising perspective. –Loren Baker, 19:01 People are looking to use their first-party data to bridge the gap and create a crosswalk between the information they need to understand about their marketing and the effectiveness of their marketing. –Nancy Marzouk, 05:17 For more content like this, subscribe to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/searchenginejournal Are you looking to keep up with current and effective digital marketing today? "Sometimes what is scary about the monster is not it's difference and it's otherness, but the fact that it's actually similar. So sometimes what is terrifying about others is not their otherness, but their sameness." In this "monstrous" episode of Called to be Bad I explore "monster theory" with associate professor of Old Testament at Union Presbyterian Seminary, Safwat Marzouk. This is a two-part episode and this first-part explores what exactly is "monster theory" and how it can help us approach scripture. In part-two we look more specifically at biblical monsters. In law school, we learn how to think like a lawyer. We develop the analytical skills we need to analyze a case, draft documents, research legal issues and provide sound legal advice to our clients. But like many professionals, we don't spend a lot of time studying the human component of the practice of law. While some of us come to the practice with strong interpersonal skills, many of us have not been in a position to lead prior to entering the profession. As lawyers move up the ranks this can create problems. Lawyers who are individual contributors may provide outstanding legal services to their clients. But as they move into leadership roles in their firms, they need a different set of skills. And if they don't have those skills, that can create a bad culture. Moreover, a bad work environment can cause numerous problems for a law firm. For starters, it can cause turnover which can be costly. As someone who spent many years earning a living in the recruiting business, I know how much it can cost to replace a good lawyer. So what can law firms do? To address some of the behaviors which are impeding the success of their firm, my guest, Carol Marzouk, has some answers Carol is CEO and Chief Executive Lion Tamer for Leadership ‘N Soul. Her business is all about transforming behavior, relationships, and culture in the workplace. She founded it on the principle that nobody has to endure a toxic boss, toxic employees, or a toxic workplace. In this episode, Carol shares some tips for how to improve the culture, your firm and how to lead more effectively. I met Carol through my ProVisors business network, and I can say with certainty that she is someone who was very insightful and very generous with her time. She is also a pleasure to speak to. Listen in for a great conversation about how to deal with toxicity in the workplace. Whether you work with toxic people or recognize some of those behaviors in yourself, Carol has some great advice.

This week's episode of the Manifest Miracles Podcast is with Bianca Marzouk, a certified sex, love, and relationship coach who has partnered with women around the world to support them in igniting their divine sexuality, cultivating their unique powers, and expressing their authentic selves. Sexual energy is one of the most potent ways we carry energy as human beings. Tapping into your sacred sexuality and expressing yourself through embodiment of this magnificent energy goes beyond sex - it can bring vibrancy and new levels of creativity to every facet of your life! Aligning with your unique sensual essence is a potent way to fuel your authentic expression, and this episode gives you wise insights and tools to begin or deepen your journey in this realm. Our understanding of sexuality is directly impacted by the way our families, cultures and society at large portray the image of sexual nature. In this episode Bianca unpacks many common limiting beliefs that occur as a byproduct of deep sexual shame and guilt, and invites us to unlearn and unchoose those narratives so we can begin to embody the nature of our own sacred sexuality. You can expect to explore the following themes in this podcast: What sacred sexuality is, and how Bianca serves to help women reclaim this essence The distinction between sex and sacred sexuality How couples can shift their sexual experiences from goal-oriented to energetically experiential Common limiting beliefs around sex, and how to navigate them to empowerment The Wild Woman archetype, and how each of us can recognize and embody this inherent nature within ourselves How to embark on a journey of sacred sexuality, and how life changes as a result Some common warning signs that you are misaligned with your sexual energy Tweetables: “Something that I find so beautiful about sacred sexuality is that it's really a way to practice our connection with the divine, in union with another person.” — Bianca Marzouk [0:04:07] “There's that very deep one that is ‘not worthy', which is a wound that I've encountered with every single person I've worked with, men, women, couples. There's this deep sense of, “Somehow I'm not worthy of love. And when I'm not worthy of love, I'm not worthy of pleasure.”” — Bianca Marzouk [0:14:43] “The way that she defines orgasm is that it's a buildup of sexual energy. And then a movement of that energy through the body, and then shift in our mind where we surrender to that energy.” — Bianca Marzouk [0:17:55] “Miracles are these moments when the Divine is saying like, “Hey, I'm here.” You know, “I'm with you. And you are marvelous. And you are a beautiful creation of this existence.”” — Bianca Marzouk [0:42:33] Links Mentioned in Today's Episode: Bianca Marzouk Bianca Marzouk on Instagram Bianca Marzouk Integrative Love & Sexuality Coaching on Facebook Women's Anatomy of Arousal: Secret Maps to Buried Pleasure #Yonisinnature on Instagram The Body Positivity Journal The Lotus Collective

Evonne Marzouk has spent her career in pursuit of inspiring others, making a difference, and bringing Jewish wisdom into the world. In this episode, Evonne and I go deep into discussing Jewish mysticism. Following the theme of Growing Into Your Gifts in Evonne's novel “The Prophetess”, we discuss how wisdom teachings have impacted our lives - both from a pragmatic and mystical perspective. The teachings of Judaism have been around for thousands of years, and have provided countless people with insight into life's most difficult questions. There is an amazing connection between ourselves and the divine, and coming into ‘contact' with the divine can have profound positive transformations on your life. Connecting with faith (emunah) and experiencing the light of consciousness can provide a deep sense of connectedness and peace to the turbulent lives we live. One of the main ways people connect with God is through meditation - a practice that is generally thought to be exclusive to Eastern wisdom traditions, but is actually also a fundamental part of Jewish mystical teachings. Taking the time to consciously experience life, nature, ourselves, and divinity is both the means and outcome of mediation. There is so much wisdom available in the world - we need only allow ourselves the opportunity to find and connect with it at a deep level, and the majesty of the universe will begin to reveal itself. Evonne Marzouk Evonne Marzouk has spent her career in pursuit of inspiring others, making a difference, and bringing Jewish wisdom into the world. She grew up in Philadelphia and began writing and publishing poems and stories as a young child. Evonne attended the Johns Hopkins University and received a B.A. from the Writing Seminars program, with a minor in Religious Studies. Evonne founded and is the former director of Canfei Nesharim (recently merged with GrowTorah), an organization that teaches Jewish wisdom about protecting the environment. Evonne began work for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 1999 and has played key roles in work on the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation, the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and the Global Alliance to Eliminate Lead Paint. Episode 6 welcomes our fourth guest, Spencer Marzouk. Spencer is currently studying at Harvard Business School which is an amazing accomplishment just by itself, and by the way, isn't just a typical program to be a part of. Besides the diverse global perspectives in the classroom, he has experience working internationally with Tupperware and prior to that spent time in Alabama working for Teach For America where he helped lead the creation of The Dream Initiative. The Dream Initiative "helps close the exposure, academic, and opportunity gaps by offering selected students with greater access to travel, mentors, networks, and tutoring. These support structures empower students to achieve their fullest potential." We hear about the importance of global perspective - especially from a leadership point of view. The idea of transformational leadership and the impact of mentors in his life are something that have a large impact in how he pursues the next step of his life. As a former teammate, our connection developed through college and it's exciting to discuss the opportunities and importance of education and how we need to be prepared (and already preparing) for the role of preparing the next generation of leaders!
