Dan Silberberg talks about the Multi-dimensional Leadership. [10:00] If we are in an ecosystem and with peer to peer accountability, we are self-managed. We discover more unknown, unknowns. We uncover more unconscious biases. This is the way we've always done it. I've been here longer. This is how we do everything. Once you corporatized me, you've lost the genius that you hired. [21:51] To view the Slideshow go HERE: [37:51] "And when I start to see the brilliant genius and gift in others, guess what? I get to see it in myself. Exactly. And now I can also we all experience, this is the collective that I believe is missing in the world of zero sum game. "That's the three-dimensional world - I win, you lose, I get promoted. You don't. This is a whole different way of acting. And so I think it's, it's really important. And then the other part of it is that we will work with you on your business issues. "So coming out of global billion dollar publicly traded multinational companies having done global turnarounds of brands, having done five start-ups, having a tech background with EDS and oracle, having a consulting background in Mckinsey methodology and a T Carney. I've seen a lot of movies, but then we also have other people who come in with business expertise that you get the benefit of. "So it's a very dynamic um environment. "So that's one council and the other council that I have is what I'm calling the leader operating system. And this is where we work with vice presidents, managers, directors, people who aspire to the C suite. Most startups fail not because of a bad product, poor timing, or mismanaged cash, but because of people problems: conflicts over strategy, decision-making, and team culture. Even the smartest entrepreneurs have been derailed by soft problems: • How do you fire a loyal friend who's not up to par? • How do you motivate your team to give their all? • What happens when egos and emotions overpower facts and reason? What are the 6 most common maverick beliefs? 1. The myth of equal equity: Co-founders should receive equal equity in return for equal commitment and equal contributions. 2. The myth of shared command: Power and decision-making should be shared equally among cofounders. 3. The myth of scaling without hierarchy: Layers of management should be avoided as the company grows, because they create bureaucracy and slow progress. 4. The myth of structural harmony: Disputes between functional roles represent a failure point that should be fixed. 5. The myth of conflict-free growth. A strong culture should be able to minimize or even prevent all interpersonal conflict, even as the team grows. 6. The myth of sustained heroics: Heroic extra effort is necessary for the long haul, not just during the startup's earliest months. The Bonfire Moment workshop has proven effective with hundreds of teams of all sizes around the world—from the smallest startups to large organizations—significantly improving their cohesion, focus and effectiveness. AI's next inflection point is from employee experimentation to organizational transformation. This episode is with CEO and industry expert, Michelle Tinsley. You can watch the YouTube video here: https://youtu.be/6RbqomCkCfw TALKING POINTS [1:39] What do you find teams are not doing that they should be doing with AI implementation? [5:51] How can organizations benefit by becoming early adopters, and how can they use that expertise to become industry role models? [6:38 ]How do you address customer complaints about stock shortages when managing multiple warehouses across the country? [8:53] Who is the right person in my company to speak with your team for an assessment? [9:15] How can we get in touch with you? [10:50] A lot of times we're brought in by the CEO or the COO because they see where productivity can be gained. They have that owner's philosophy of, I've got to transform my company or I won't be here in 4 to 6 years. [11:09] What are the challenges when businesses store their data in the cloud? [11:16] How does a modern cloud architecture, such as a centralized data warehouse, make accessing data easier? Are the APIs ready to be tapped into, or do new secure portals need to be created to access the data? Do we have to create secure APIs to get out the data? [11:46] Can I just share with you a quote by Seth Godin.? ‘'AI is the biggest change in our world since the invention of electricity, a bigger change than the internet. If you're not using it for half an hour a day, you don't understand. You should. You need to put it on your calendar and go use it. Let that sink in for a moment.'' [14:55] One of the tactics for innovation is to identify the top 20% of constraints hindering progress, the roadblocks. If you were going to consult with somebody from an organization, what would be the first question you would ask them? What are your pain points? Where are you losing yield? Where are you losing time? [15:58] How might fear prevent people from moving forward thinking that AI is going to replace them? [20:01] Let's close with another case study to the listener visualize what it is we can do to be in alignment with the AI revolution. === ABOUT MICHELLE TINSLEY, CEO, Sciata LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelle-tinsley/ Sciata https://www.sciata.com/ https://www.linkedin.com/company/sciata/ Sciata brings more than a decade of experience providing specialists and custom software and analytics to accelerate change within organizations. === ABOUT PODCAST HOST, NINA SUNDAY To learn more about face-to-face training programs with Nina Sunday or one of the experienced Facilitators from Brainpower Training Pty Ltd in Australia Pacific, visit: https://www.brainpowertraining.com.au/signature-programs/ To visit Nina Sunday's speaker site for global in-person speaking bookings visit: https://www.ninasunday.com/ Connect with Nina Sunday on LinkedIn HERE: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ninasunday/ To subscribe to Nina Sunday's personal blog go to https://www.brainpowertraining.com.au/ and scroll to bottom of the page to register. Self-leadership is the practice of intentionally influencing your thinking and feeling towards your objectives. To influence your thinking and feeling you have to become aware of the thoughts and feelings you're having and drive those thoughts and feelings towards your objectives with intentionality. Ep139 Leaders Using Both Sides of the Brain, with Sonia Jeantet Author of The Integrative Brain, Sonia Jeantet developed the Integrative Leader model, leveraging the full potential of one's thinking abilities through wholebrain thinking. Neuropsychology demonstrates that the human brain cannot ignore a question. Questions activate the relevant parts of the brain to provide relevant answers. The trick is to know what questions to ask! [9:00] An integrative leader is going to take a look at the business. It's almost like, if you were doing a body scan and you were trying to see like, well, what parts of is, is my head healthy, is my heart healthy, is my stomach healthy? Start wherever you want to start. Ideally, you start in the left brain because that's where it requires more of the analytical part. And so you basically say like, so what business are we in? What is it that we really do here? What is it that we really are known for? Is that still relevant today? And then the next one would be to go to the right brain and try something else is going to the why. And basically, it's the understand, why are we doing this? Why are we using this technology? Why are we in a specific market? Why? Why would . . .? Why do our . . . ? e.g. why do our clients use our products? Why do they use our services? So then at that point in time, you sort of the overall bigger picture of the business. Now, let's go into how . . . How would we implement it? return on uh implementation who should be involved with this, who, who are, who should be on the project, who are our clients, who do we need to interact with in order to make this happen? And then stepping outside of that into the bigger picture, taking all four quadrants into consideration is so based on all of that, Where are we? Are we at the beginning phase? Are we at the end of a particular era? Do we need to start thinking about doing something differently? And then the last one is so when do we do this? When do we launch, when do we make this happen? ABOUT SONIA JEANTET Sonia Jeantet is Founder of Cima Executive Development, a coaching and consulting firm in Southern California. Giving feedback is one skill set, while how to receive feedback is just as important. When you hear the word feedback, how do you react? “Feedback” is one of those words that can be polarizing and cause panic. I encourage leaders to create a culture of conversation within their organization so that they never have to use the word feedback. How do I have a conversation with my manager who doesn't listen? If you don't have a trusted relationship with your manager, then that's going to be a difficult conversation. What do you do when you're on the receiving end of that difficult conversation? Ep129 we speak with Lynne Cazaly and her book, "Sync Async" < https://amzn.to/43Q3QkO > which makes a distinction between synchronous and asynchronous work. The author urges people to consider more asynchronous ways of working. There will always be too much to do and not enough time to do it. Putting practical sync async techniques to work can make your work easier . . . and the rest of life better. Consider: · Do we really need everyone at the same meeting at the same time? (synchronous work) · Could some people contribute prior to, or after the meeting or begin working on tasks outside of a meeting? (asynchronous work). A growing number of teams and businesses are learning and experiencing the value of deliberately working in sync / async ways. That is, some work is completed synchronously - at the same time with other people; and other elements of work completed asynchronously - at a time and in a way that suits them. In this conversation with author Lynne Cazaly, we discuss how, why and when to work in sync and async ways · tools for making great async progress · ways to identify the type of work you prefer · how to make daily progress easier - get started on things that have stopped and accelerate things that have slowed. You don't need to wait for a culture change or for someone to give you the go-ahead on this. You can start working better in both sync and async ways from today. ABOUT LYNNE CAZALY Lynne Cazaly from Melbourne, Australia, is an international keynote speaker, award-winning author and master facilitator. In Episode 127, I speak again with Thought Leader and Visionary Dan Silberberg around the evolving role of leadership in a world of disruption. There's a shift from focusing solely on productivity to valuing intelligence as the key competitive advantage. Multiple areas of disruption can be described with the VUCA framework. A leader's full time job is global volatility. Another full time job is global uncertainty and unpredictability. Another full time job is unraveling complexity. And then the last one, just in case you didn't have enough to deal with, is ambiguity. The traditional hierarchical model is insufficient for dealing with such complexities. Dan advocates for an ecosystem approach where leaders become facilitators rather than top-down decision-makers. To be a great leader requires critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and lifelong learning. We need authentic organizational values, hiring based on cultural fit, personal authenticity in interviews. Leaders need to adapt to the rapidly changing landscape by fostering innovation, embracing ndiversity, and building trust within their organizations. This episode I speak with Brian Bowman, learning strategist, capability expert and digital learning guru in Australia Pacific on how a leader can have a career conversation with their direct reports. When my company, Brainpower Training, won a tender to deliver customized Report Writing for Audit workshops in multiple cities for one of Australia's largest banks, Brian Bowman held a People and Culture role at that bank. We worked together closely to roll out those Report Writing programs. TALKING POINTS [6:40] So the career conversation for the leader is actually themselves having to step out of the day-to-day and ask, “Where do you want to go?” [7:30] Good questions to ask . . . “What brings you joy?” Because it gets people to think about, “When I'm in flow, when I'm really enjoying work, this is what I'm doing.” ”What are you drawn to?” is another really great question. People will naturally gravitate across their work day to things they really love and enjoy doing. You can ask people, “What do you want to do at work?” [11:00] The joy question can be offset with, “What do you hate doing?” It's such a brilliant way of exploring that career conversation. [13:00] Careers aren't linear, they might do a bit over here or something there. [14:00] People have different stages of their career. There might be a 3-year cycle. Charles Handy talks about the Sigmoid Curve, the S-curve. [15:46] Don't wait for someone's motivation to wane; change before you have to, always give a sense of progression to people in their career. To re-motivate people, start a second curve, [16:44] It's an interesting conundrum for leaders, how do I help people grow and drive their career? I want to retain and deliver great work across an organization but training people up might make them leave. [18:19] In the future it's helping people translate their impact in their career where they've been and what they would also bring to that next cycle of impact. [19:16] Younger people might ask for a promotion or more money, but maybe they haven't sailed in the storm yet. They say things like, “I do the same work as . . .” another. "Well, the other has 15 years' experience and hoisted the sails in the storm and survived and sailed it. Yes, you are doing the same job. But I know if something went wrong, they'll manage it appropriately." [21:10] Gallup strengths and the top 5. === ABOUT BRIAN BOWMAN Contact Brian Bowman via LinkedIn HERE: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brianbowman2/ ABOUT PODCAST HOST, NINA SUNDAY Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@manageselfleadotherspodcast?sub_confirmation=1 Connect Nina Sunday on LinkedIn HERE: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ninasunday/ You can suggest a guest, ask a question, make a comment. Leaders harnessing the essence of appreciation are rewarded with higher engagement and trust. My guest, Avi Liran, has spent a decade researching Appreciation. Fascinated by the power of positivity and ability of words and tone to transform, Avi Liran is a super optimist believing in igniting inner joy, in people's lives and experiences. Avi says, “In my workshop, we work a few hours on Appreciation. Each person writes on an envelope the date, they sign, they write their own name on the envelope, and then they put the envelope to the right, and they get another envelope with the name of another person. And then they write for the next person how much they appreciate them, as many things as possible. And when they receive it, I ask them 2 questions. One question is, “How do you feel?” And the second question, “What surprised you?” Nina, you would be amazed how many people are totally surprised that other people appreciate them. They never knew how much people appreciate them. They thought they were transparent; and that's wrong, because people do appreciate people. In episode 115 I'm speaking with Carol Marzouk, the Executive Lion Tamer. According to Carol, ''We're all icebergs. We have stuff everyone sees and then stuff that they don't. The trick is to get underneath the iceberg in a non-invasive way so you understand people's currency. Even if you've been with them for 30 years, you can ask questions like, ‘'You know, I know we've worked together for a long time, and shame on me for not asking sooner, but I've been thinking about how important you are to me. And I want to know, where do you see yourself in a year?'' TALKING POINTS [2:15] What's the story around how you gained the title, ‘'Executive Lion Tamer'' please Carol? [8:50] There are 3 types of aggressive behavior: · physical and verbal aggression · active aggression · passive aggression. [25:12] Many times we'll say that person just doesn't listen. A tool to use is to listen with a pen. You can say, ‘'What you're saying is so important to me that I'm going to write down as much as I can.'' [27:44] When you go through the stages of engage and inspire, then the last piece is unite, unite the team. And this is where you really not only have culture by design, you design your culture, bringing everyone together and uniting them as a cohesive team that has each other's backs. F [30:43] I should be asking them about where they want to head in their career. You ask them, what are your motivators? What gets you excited? How do you like to learn? How do you like to complete projects? Do you like to be told step by step or told just the outcome and then you figure out the how? It's having these dialogues to get underneath the surface and make people feel valued. Phenomenology is your lived experience of being in the world. Dan Silberberg makes Phenomenology understandable e.g. you might show up with anger, or without much of a voice, or all you want to do is please others. To become a better leader, understand your own phenomenology, how you show up in the world. You can view Dan Silberberg's programs, the 12-month Leader Council or 13-week Leader Program to 2-day workshops, 1-on-1 coaching at https://entelechy.ai/ Go to the Programs tab. (Tell them Nina Sunday referred you.) TALKING POINTS [5:08] The question is not, ''What is the meaning to life? The question is, ''What is the meaning you're giving to your life?'' [6:35] Certain people get fired and they're devastated. The meaning they bring to it is, ''I'm not worthy. I'm not capable. I can't hold a job.'' Another person's meaning is, ''I meant to leave. They actually help me to do the business I've always had in my heart.'' It's the same event, but it has a different meaning. [13:10] Phenomenologically, are you living in your dream or living in somebody else's? If you don't build your dream, then you're helping others build theirs. [13:54] Phenomenology describes 'being thrown in the world''. I got thrown into the family. I got thrown into the parents I got thrown into a great zip code or not-so-good zip code. I got thrown into a particular ethnicity, a particular gender, all these things. I had no say in it. [34:19] As a leader, as you show up dealing with people, are they arguing with you all the time? Are they silent? Are they just hoping to get away from you? Do they freeze and just let you go and walk all over them? What reaction are they having? [40:45] I'm looking for 12 - 15 people in a C-Suite role who are committed to the journey to open up and have a life greater than anything they could have imagined. === Dan Silberberg's leadership programs start soon: 12-month Leader Council - only 12 - 15 individuals in a C-Suite role. 13-week Leader program 2-day Paradigm Shift workshop 1-on-1 coaching Find out more https://entelechy.ai/ select the PROGRAMS tab. In this episode of the Anthropology in Business podcast, Lee Wilson speaks with Matt Artz about his career as a business anthropologist. The conversation covers Lee's journey from studying Indonesian martial arts to working in global development. About Less Wilson Lee Wilson specializes in working with organizations and their leaders to help them understand and drive sustainable change. He has pioneered innovative, participatory approaches to research and implementation grounded in applied ethnography and anthropological thinking. Key to the success of these approaches is detailed analysis of the cultural patterns that shape the ways we think about and act in the world. His approach is highly participatory and works to put people back into strategy. He works with clients to break down silos, to ensure all voices are heard (irrespective of seniority), and help people understand organizational challenges from standpoints other than their own. He creates secure environments for issues to be raised for collective resolution – putting problem-solving and consequent ownership for change into the hands of participants. His work has spanned three continents (UK/Europe, Asia, and Australia/Pacific) with a diverse array of partners and clients including government agencies, the United Nations, art organizations, corporate entities, law enforcement agencies, think tanks, and NGOs. This podcast was recorded on the lands of the Cammeraygal and the Gadigal of Eora nation. We pay our respects to elders past and present and acknowledge the work of those in community today. This land was stolen and sovereignty was never ceded, Australia owes a debt that can never be repaid and must come to terms with the historic and ongoing genocide of the First Nations. There is no revolution without Treaties.G'day voters, and welcome to 3 White Guys + Guest, a political podcast for a cynical nation. Our plus guest today is Nikola Čašule, head of research and investigations at Greenpeace Australia Pacific, and one of the contributing authors of the Greenpeace report Dirty Power: Burnt Country - How the fossil fuel industry, News Corp, and the Federal Government hijacked the Black Summer bushfires to prevent action on climate change.Follow them on Twitter: @NikolaCasule and @GreenpeaceAPFull shownotes available at shutupandreadthis.com

In a full episode, Allan and Darren return to the perennial topics of Australian foreign policy—our relationships with the United States and China, with events of recent weeks offering yet another illustration of how complex and challenging these relations are. As a result of the US Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense visiting Sydney for AUSMIN in early August, Australia was asked to contribute to (another) military operation in the Middle East, a very controversial proposal for stationing US missiles in Australia was floated, and China came in for much American criticism. Was this Australia being “squeezed” by Washington, and how did the government handle it? Australia’s bilateral relationship with China is also making headlines, in particular because of Andrew Hastie MP’s op-ed in which he invoked a controversial analogy involving Germany and the Maginot Line. Meanwhile, duelling protests are being carried out on Australian soil regarding Hong Kong. Allan and Darren grapple with these questions, and finish the episode by covering PM Scott Morrison’s trip to Tuvalu for the Pacific Islands Forum, which did not go as he would have hoped with climate change being the major fault line between Australia and its South Pacific family. As always, we invite our listeners to email us at this address: australia.world.pod@gmail.com We welcome feedback, requests and suggestions. Maddy May has definitely been through her fair share of tough times. And then some. I've always said adversity builds character. People who have depth rarely achieve it easily. The thing that struck me most about Maddy was that she was able to retell the stories of the ordeals she had been through without getting choked up, and to me that means she's truly been able to overcome them.
