It's officially halfway to the holidays, and the summer season is heating up across the Walt Disney World Resort. From new characters and construction updates to seasonal food events and even some big infrastructure news, a lot is happening this week. Let's dig in. Create your own Christmas Tree Returns to Walt Disney World Coolest Summer Ever Brings New Surprises The Cool Kids Summer campaign is in full swing, and Frontierland is abuzz with activity. We spotted new characters joining the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade, including rare appearances that surprised even longtime parkgoers. Over in Toy Story Land, guests will be glad to see new shade structures finally added near Andy's Lunch Box — a much-needed relief in the Florida heat. Meanwhile, Magic Kingdom Updates Tomorrowland Astro Orbiter is nearing completion. Flavors of Florida Kicks Off with a Culinary Preview Flavors of Florida is back at Disney Springs, and the 2025 edition kicked off with a flavorful media preview. We had a chance to check out offerings from The Edison, Terralina, and House of Blues — including new dishes and seasonal cocktails inspired by Florida's fresh ingredients. If you're planning to visit, keep an eye out for the new Shrimp & Grits, Pizza alla Vodka, and a colorful gator-themed beverage that's already creating buzz. Big Thunder Rumblings and D23 Archives Celebration Over at Magic Kingdom, train cars were spotted on the Big Thunder Mountain tracks, fueling speculation about ride testing or possibly preparation for refurbishment. While Disney hasn't confirmed anything officially, it's a sign that more activity is happening behind the scenes. At Disney Studios, we got a sneak peek into Disney's past as the Walt Disney Archives celebrated its 55th anniversary. The Archives team released a fantastical short film honoring the legacy of Walt's vision and the importance of preserving Disney history. We even spotted a familiar face — Gongos Mickey, from the Muppet*Vision 3D pre-show — as part of the anniversary display. Major Road Projects Could Shape Disney's Future Perhaps the biggest long-term news this week didn't come from inside the parks but just outside them. The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District has officially opened bidding for two major infrastructure projects: the Western Way road expansion and a full redesign of the Buena Vista Drive interchange. These fully funded initiatives are designed to ease traffic flow into the resort's western entrance — but they could also mean something much bigger. Could this signal a future park expansion or new resort area? Disney owns 160 acres nearby with improved access underway. Speculation is growing about long-term plans, especially as road work begins. Sam analyzed access ramps and project maps, even comparing them to satellite images. The results are intriguing and raise many questions. While Disney has made no announcements, these upgrades could open the door to major development. Video Episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m_wRuGK8g0

This week brought emotional farewells and new beginnings, as Disney fans witnessed the closure of Muppet One Last Look at Muppet Courtyard (Grand Avenue) and Muppet Vision 3D Before It Closes ForeverVision 3D and saw fresh concept art for both coasts. As part of the WDW Weekly Update, here's what unfolded. Muppet*Vision 3D Officially Closes. It's official: MuppetVision 3D* has closed its doors at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Sam and Greg take a final stroll through the attraction, sharing behind-the-scenes views and paying tribute to the classic. Alongside video highlights and personal memories, we break down the Top 10 Quotes from Muppet*Vision 3D—including Fozzie's “banana cream pie”, Sam Eagle's patriotic finale, and Statler and Waldorf's relentless heckling. Fans of Jim Henson's legacy won't want to miss this nostalgic send-off. New Courtyard Concept Art Debuts With the attraction officially closed, new concept art has appeared on the construction walls surrounding the former Muppet Vision area. The updated visuals reflect a slight tweak in the Monsters Inc. Land. Compared to previous art shared at D23, this version shows a tweaked courtyard layout. The coaster show building remains part of the vision, but its placement is deeper into the backlot, creating breathing room between adjacent structures. Though Disney renamed the area Grand Avenue, it remains Muppet Courtyard in the hearts of fans. These changes mark a complete transformation of the area, setting the stage for something new while bringing to a close a legacy location. Disneyland Concept Art Expands the Story Over at Disneyland Resort, new concept art is adding layers to the park's 70th anniversary narrative. Updates to the entrance plaza include widened paths, revised landscaping, and what appears to be preparation for future infrastructure changes. However, the primary concern remains the Avatar experience. New visuals indicate how it might integrate into Disneyland's footprint, fueling speculation over land use and attraction placement. Additional Park Highlights Back at Magic Kingdom, The Emporium is fully restocked, and VIPassholder character meet and greets are in full swing. The Hall of Presidents has reopened its lobby with updated historical exhibits. Meanwhile, both Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Belle Riverboat are set to close in July, giving guests one last chance to experience these peaceful Magic Kingdom staples. At Epcot, Test Track walls are down and testing is underway. The UK pavilion's pianist now performs at the Odyssey, and Annual Passholders are meeting Dopey thanks to new AP-exclusive offerings. Watch the Full Episode Catch every quote, visual update, and on-site report in this week's full episode of Sam's Disney Diary on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ijYc0rM7Pk Streamed LIVE on June 11, 2025 — Join Sam and Greg every Wednesday at 9 pm ET for This Week at Walt Disney World, where we break down the latest in parks, popcorn, and beyond!

Something happened over the weekend that I probably never quite envisioned. And neither did thousands of guests who always found time to spend a few moments with Jim Henson's Muppet-Vision 3D. We celebrate this film, and its creator, sharing some insights of how all this came to be. We'll take a look at the Muppets over the years as they've come to be a part of The Walt Disney World Resort. We'll talk about all of the components that made up Muppet Courtyard, and what made Muppet-Vision 3D so really special. Join us as we commemorate this attraction, its setting and consider both its past and future. It's a rousing 3 hour finale, but we're trying to keep it around 40 minutes. ____________________________________________________________ More Disney Insights can be found below! Join **Remy**, **Unk**, **Jen**, and **Nicole** as they dive headfirst into all the latest and greatest news from the theme park capital of the world.First up, Remy takes the lead with some **huge theme park updates**, including his excitement over the long-anticipated **grand opening of Epic Universe**. That's right—Universal's newest park is finally open to the public, and Remy gives us the inside scoop on what's coming, what fans can expect, and why this park could shake up the entire Central Florida theme park scene. But wait—Remy was *right* about something else too (yes, he's still celebrating). “Please watch out for each other and love and forgive everybody. It's a good life, enjoy it.” Over the course of this series, we've come to not only love Jim Henson's work even more than we already did, but we've come to love and appreciate the person that Jim Henson was. In a cynical world, Henson was a beacon of hope and optimism and he spent his entire career — his entire life — trying to share that optimism with the world at large. While he was disappointed with the reception of his labor of love LABYRINTH, Henson didn't walk away from the project defeated. Instead, he made the decision to channel his energy into new projects, fueled by his unwavering optimism. Jim Henson, in the last years of his too-short life, did everything he could to make the world a better place through his art. In this, the final episode Jim Henson: Heart Felt, we want to discuss Jim's legacy beyond LABYRINTH. From Fraggle Rock to The StoryTeller to MuppetVision 3D and beyond, Jim worked tirelessly with every moment he had on this earth to bring joy to everyone he came in contact with, whether it was in-person or through a television or movie screen. As we say goodbye to Jim Henson and recount his final years — and his final days — we can't help but feel a little bit sad. But we also feel a sense of gratitude that we got to exist on the same planet as Henson and that we'll be able to experience the magic he brought to us until the end of time. Thank you, our listeners, for going on this journey with us. We promise we'll be back to talking about weird cult movies very soon. Want to support the show? June 7 marks the end of an era, one that lasted 34 years to be precise. The closing of Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D at Disney's Hollywood Studios signifies not only a farewell to one of the oldest and most beloved attractions in the park, but also to one of the cleverest shows that has ever existed in a Disney theme park. As the last production that Jim Henson worked on, Muppet*Vision 3D is filled with laughs, heart, and ingenuity. To honor this magnificent attraction, author Aaron Wallace joins host Brett Nachman to share our memories, favorite show elements, including its brilliant writing, and they think represent the show's legacy, among other topics. This episode is a salute to all 3D shows, but mostly Muppet*Vision 3D. If you know, you know! Check out what Aaron Wallace has been up to by following him on Instagram (@aaronhwallace) and find out more about his books on AaronWallaceOnline.com.
