This mix is a recording from a recent event at the Civic Underground club in Sydney. It was the gloves off set for Mark Farina who had just done a four hour harbour boat party for Mushroom Jazz earlier that evening.I was asked if I wanted to do the closing set, and who would I wanted to go b2b with. Two names immediately came to mind, Ritmiq, a deep and minimal house DJ who I rate highly and iLLya Cooper a well known Sydney legend. In the end I went with iLLya, because of his long standing friendship with Mark, having played alongside him on many previous tours.A lot of people thought I was brave and a little crazy trying to play b2b with such a skilled DJ, but I wanted to be challenged.I had iLLya come onto my radio show a couple of days before the event to see how we could sound together. You can check out the show here. The atmosphere in the club was pretty special, the crowd was very knowledgable and a real mix of ages. Mark got them fired up good and proper and before we knew it, we were up.iLLya started our set off and played for the first 15 minutes. We then went back and forth for the next hour and a half. As you can hear iLLya drops acappellas and vocal hits all through the mix, scratching and chopping. It was a wild experience but so much fun. I dropped my latest track "London Nights" and was blown away by the response. Everything seemed to change on the dancefloor, different people were suddenly at the front of the dancefloor in front of me and they were giving it some. It felt amazing seeing people connect and enjoy something you have created.I really hope to get the chance to play b2b with iLLya again. A longer set would be magic as we were just getting into our stride. For anyone in Sydney you can catch me at Tatler tomorrow night where I have the whole night to myself!!! Four hour set where I can stretch my legs and play some incredible music from the last 35 years of house. The following Saturday (21st), I am back at the Civic again for Night Safari. I'll be picking up where I left off. Finally, on NYE I'll be playing for Boogie at the Ivy Ballroom supporting none other than DJ Spen and Dave Lee (Joey Negro)! It's been a great year for DJing out for me, fingers crossed that 2025 continues in the same direction.Enjoy!

As broadcast July 26, 2022 with plenty for you to chill, study, and relax to. This evening we open with a favorite from Mark Farina's acclaimed and highly influential Mushroom Jazz series, which starting in 1996 really brought what's now called lo-fi to the forefront of underground music. We continued in that vein for the first block with Ted Feighan aka Monster Rally out with Botanica Dream on Friday, and we also had an interesting new LP from the UK's letherette to bump a bit as well with Kat Bass. New tunes out this week are pretty incredible, with Japanese Breakfast and SE SO NEON's So!Yoon! teaming up for a Korean version of "Be Sweet" right before Michelle Zauner herself joins us in Korea live for the Pentaport Music Festival on August 6!#feelthegravityTracks:Part I (00:00)The Hue feat Kissey Asplund – Stressin'Monster Rally – Moon FlowerLetherette – AlonePolo & Pan – From a World to AnotherStevie Zita – GhostbusterDivino Niño – Nos Soltanos Part II (30:03)Japanese Breakfast ft. Today on the show we talk an upcoming event, Music in the Park, happening in Westwood Park at 47th and State Line on Saturday, June 11, 10AM-10PM. We get all of the details from one of the event organizers, Daniel Barickman with the West Plaza Neighborhood Association. The event features a great lineup of KC musicians: The Phantastics, Bob Walkenhorst, Cassie Taylor, and a new project called Shakedown Strings (featuring Rick Willoughby and Clayton DeLong). Also on the bill is MiD, from Alexandria, VA and internationally known, world-renowned DJ, a pioneer of house music, creator of Mushroom Jazz, Mark Farina! We jump on the phone for an interview with Mark Farina and I'll do some serious fan-boying. I first heard Mushroom Jazz Vol 1 and Vol. 2 back in 1999 and I've been a fan since. Mark Farina will be in KC on Saturday, June 11, playing two gigs, first at Music in the Park at 3PM and then that night at The Ship at 9PM. We also play music by the other acts on the bill and give you details about the event and let you know that The Strawberry Swing Indie Craft Fair is part of the event too!
As broadcast April 15, 2022 with plenty of exclusive stuff to take home with you. Tonight we welcomed LA-based soul singer-songwriter Mark Evich to the show, and just like our conversations via text leading up to this, we covered a lot. From his disgust with the Russian invasion of Ukraine to the influence of an art teacher helping him discover his love of rnb back in the day, it was a great conversation not to mention the choice selects on the playlist! We're honored to give the world premiere spin to his upcoming single "PRIME," which you can only get a listen to right here on The Drop until next Friday!#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I (00:00)Archie Bell & The Drells – StrategyDwele – A.N.G.E.L. OoO did not intend to take a three-month hiatus, but we're glad to be back with idiotprogrammer, Robert Nagle. Also Australian singer Princess Chelsea . .
Terence Toy started spinning house tracks in the early 80s, back when the genre was progressing through major east coast cities with velocity. The late New York house DJ David Bryant was a mentor to Terence and turned him on to the deep, funky sound of the underground scene. Bryant's perceptive advice to Terence was, “to be really successful in this business, these are the grooves to play.” Terence never looked back.To the benefit of his audience, Terence brings to his turntables his experience as a trained musician. He's a skilled drummer, he reads music and was a member of his high school band. He understands music theory and is an expert at reconstructing verses, bridges and breaks. Terence is also an accomplished composer and producer of house music, including deep house, R&B house, gospel house, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Afro-tech.His roots embody the styles of New Jersey swing to the Miami sound to Chicago warehouse; the beats and tempos speak to him. Soulful-vocal-house and straight-ahead jazz have always moved him equally.Click the links below to listen to the tracks we played on our episode with Terence, plus a few more including Terence's musical response to George Floyd and the story about it.http://www.terencetoy.com/https://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/i-want-you-ill-atmospherics-seeks-refuge-afro-latin-house-mix?si=ebce5c48cbff4b1aac39c875bf2042c8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/terence-toy-feat-louis-hale-lets-get-jousey-isr-remix https://soundcloud.com/terencetoy-music/terence-toy-love-is-losinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/shot-of-your-love-illatmospherices-seeks-refuge-remix?si=ebce5c48cbff4b1aac39c875bf2042c8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/thinkgeorge-floydhttps://www.randomlengthsnews.com/archives/2020/06/26/think-george-floyd/28993

Housepedia Podcasts #HomeIsWhereHouseIsPlaying 49 I Darius Kramer Playing other peoples music for other peoples enjoyment since 1993! Darius is a self proclaimed "House Addict". He fell in love with the house sound as a teenager living in Montreal back in the early '90s when he would stay up late on Friday nights and record a dance mix show on Montreal radio. He was hooked from then on. He then proceeded to start mixing with one tape deck and a CD player and never looked back. When he moved to Vancouver in the late '90's, he started buying records almost daily and spent most of his free time at his favourite record stores at the time, Bassix and Mekanix records. Over the next few years, Darius held various residencies and ran 2 club nights in Vancouver, playing alongside such talent as Lawnchair Generals and Johnny Fiasco, as well as playing at numerous after hours and raves. After getting tired of both the late nights and politics in the scene, he decided it was time to hang up the headphones in the early 2000s, but the love of house music still burned inside of him as the years passed. In 2013 he decided he wanted to get back into DJ'ing and purchased a basic Pioneer controller and started to collect digital tracks again. Over the past few years Darius has been busy making a name for himself in the underground scene with numerous guest mix appearances around the world on such labels as House Salad, Reason2Funk, Uglyhouse, Little Routine, Selecta Music, Leven Underground and House Jet Radio just to name a few. He also started the very popular "SPEED BUMPS" mix series which showcases his love for hip hop and jazz as he shows his versatility as a DJ by blending mixes of nu jazz, hip hop instrumentals and acid jazz flavours reminiscent of Mark Farina's legendary series, Mushroom Jazz. He also launched the hugely successful "Soul Room Sessions" podcast showcasing the soulful and jazzy side of house music and downtempo beats with guest mixes from some of the biggest names in the game and the series is still going strong! In 2017 Darius got his first taste of out of town gigging playing live shows all over the West Coast from his hometown in Vancouver, to San Francisco and Oakland. Stay tuned for much more from him in the near future! Info about the artist: @darius-kramer Submit your mixtape: https://housepediamusic.online/submissions/ Like our posts? I had the privilege of being asked to play at a Calgary wedding during cocktail hour this summer. This was great timing since I was just putting the final touches on a lounge mix I had been planning for several years. This was just the inspiration I needed to complete the mix and play live. The set was visioned as this subtle, uplifting background which kept the focus of the cocktail hour on guests connecting with each other. The music would not overpower the lively conversations happening in the room. There would be a vast array of instruments. An undercurrent of grooves would warm up the hips for the dance floor later on. Lyrics would be subtle; although they might captivate a select few. This mix is dedicated to the inspirational couple of the evening, Bik and Alisha. And to all friends and lovers connecting across the world amidst the ambient beat of sexy lounge music. Artist Name: Mark Farina Web: http://www.djmarkfarina.net/ Biography: Shortly after Mark befriended Derrick Carter in 1988 at a record store in Chicago, his passion for House music, and sharing it with the world, exploded. Mark experimented with a deeper style, dropping De La Soul, disco classics and other stuff that wasn’t being played in the main rooms of nightclubs. While exploring his love for the purist forms of House Music, Mark developed his trademark style: Mushroom Jazz; acid jazz infused with the West Coast’s jazzy, organic productions combined with urban beats. Fans embraced Mark’s downtempo style so much that he started a weekly Mushroom Jazz club night in San Francisco with Patty Ryan. In 3 short years, the club established a fanatical, cult-like following for Farina and the Mushroom Jazz sound. When the doors closed, Farina continued the tradition by releasing a series of Cds on OM Records: simply titled, “Mushroom Jazz”. Since then, Mark has been traveling the globe performing 100s of shows, to over one million club goers, every year. His House sets take fans on journeys to the jazzy side of Chicago House mixed San Fran style. Some of these sets have been known to last up to 8 hours. And sometimes you’ll find Mark playing in two different rooms at the same party, showcasing his range of big room sound to the uber-chill. When Mark’s not touring, you can likely find him in his studio, working on his next release for his imprint, Great Lakes Audio, or on another signature mix for Mushroom Jazz. Mark’s chunky-funky underground house style continually turns the heads of tastemakers worldwide, drawing him not only new fans, but landing him on the Top DJs in the World lists by URB, MUZIK and BPM Magazines. 01.
