Nursing and the arts are both built on the raw, unspoken language of the human soul; one heals the body through rhythm and care, the other heals the spirit through melody and expression—but both require a radical empathy that can only be sustained when we protect our own light, because you cannot pour from an empty vessel when you've given the very best of yourself away to your work In this powerhouse episode of The Gritty Nurse, Host Amie Archibald-Varley sits down with Catherine Harrison, the official sponsor for mental health at the JUNOS and a renowned music industry leadership and mental health consultant. With a unique dual background in both healthcare and the arts, Catherine bridge's the gap between these two high-pressure worlds to reveal striking parallels in burnout, mental health challenges, and the urgent need for systemic change. As a seasoned mental health strategist, Catherine shares her insights on why community support is the ultimate antidote to professional exhaustion. We dive deep into the evolving landscape of creativity—including the impact of AI on human connection—and discuss how professionals in both healthcare and the music industry can reclaim their voices to advocate for a healthier, more sustainable future. In this episode, we discuss: The Healing Power of Music: How rhythm and melody serve as vital tools for emotional resilience. Healthcare vs. The Music Industry: Understanding the shared stressors and the "burnout epidemic." Mental Health & Catherine's Work: Catherine's role in elevating wellness conversations on a national stage. Human Connection in a Digital Age: Why AI cannot replace the essential human element in care and creativity. Advocacy & Leadership: Strategies for professionals to drive cultural shifts within their organizations. Whether you are a nurse on the frontlines or a creative navigating the industry, this conversation is a call to action to prioritize your well-being and lead with empathy. What is up, everyone?!We're back -- after a small pause -- with another episode featuring a guest, and I'm thrilled to share, regardless of how LinkedIn-y that sounds -- that I was lucky enough to see my interview with Phil Kilmer to the other side.Meaning, it took a year and-a-half to make it happen. Which is fun!In that vein, I'll pause for two seconds to say thank you to anyone that's ever replied to my outreach, and everyone that has helped me to see an episode come to finished-product state by committing, showing up, and being awesome. I'm really excited to see that the 200 mark is right around the corner, and -- as of this moment -- I have a small dose of confidence in me that we'll get there.Where it goes from there is anybody's guess.Anyway...Phil Kilmer is a son, a boyfriend, a father, a presence in academia, a physical therapist, a doctorate candidate, and I'm -- in botching this list -- not even doing his whole Curriculum Vitae justice.Regardless, we talked about Frost on the Flint Band, the Lovegrass Music Festival, being a musician, a diehard soccer fan, and...well, we also had a decent look at a few of Phil's favorite albums, which were these:Live at the Old Quarter (1977), Townes Van ZandtJohn Prine's Bruised Orange (1978)Uprising (1980), Bob MarleySplit Lip Rayfield's Never Make It Home (2001)Renewal (2021), Billy StringsChatting with Phil was super-fantastic, and I'd be remiss to not encourage you to give both the Walnut Valley Festival as well as the Lovegrass Music Festival consideration when planning your next bit of PTO. Thank you, Phil, and nutrition and health to you all.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to any of the audio clips contained within this episode, or within any of these episodes, for that matter. The guys open this episode with heartfelt farewells, showing love to Tisha and Denisse as they step away for personal reasons. Both sisters received flowers and well-wishes from the team. Congratulations go out to Captain Desmond K. Walker, honored with the FY26 Vice Admiral James Bond Stockdale Leadership Award, along with all other recipients. The crew also sends condolences to CMSAF David A. Flosi and family on the passing of his wife, Katy. Damon reflects on his experiences in Newport, Rhode Island and Millington, Tennessee during the CMC/COB course, while Aaron raises the question—is Memphis BBQ overrated? Damo shares a personal story about the Philadelphia Police Department entering his mother's home. The team acknowledges that social media clip production may slow due to their new command responsibilities, sparking a larger discussion: how can leaders realistically balance social media and deckplate leadership? The conversation ties into the Navy's updated social media policy and handbook, as well as CNO's latest “C-Note,” where he defines The Foundry. Hero of the Week returns with a spotlight on Private First Class Charles Ralph Johnson. Updates on the Angelina Resendiz case lead to a debate about the limits of invasive leadership. The crew tackles listener questions about rank privileges and a troubling report of a new mother being excluded from the CPO Initiation and Pinning Ceremony. Other hot topics include an Army dining hall with an “F” rating still serving meals, strategies to shift command culture in the face of widespread disciplinary issues, and Damon's surprise at the “Pick of the Week” segment. Humble Pie is often overshadowed by bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Queen, but they were a considered a "supergroup" when they formed in 1969-- fronted by Steve Marriott from the Small Faces and Peter Frampton from The Herd. Their first 2 albums are a mixed bag, but by the time they signed with A&M Records in 1970 they had refined their style down to a bluesy, hard-rockin' sound. In this filing, UMG Recordings, Inc. submitted a motion to dismiss the civil complaint brought by Sara Rivers (formerly known as Sara Stokes), who has accused Sean Combs and a wide array of associated individuals and entities—including UMG—of enabling and participating in a long-running campaign of abuse, exploitation, and retaliation during her time as a performer and reality television star. UMG argues that the complaint fails to establish any direct legal basis for liability against the label, emphasizing that Rivers' allegations are either too vague, time-barred, or do not meet the threshold of actionable conduct under applicable laws. UMG maintains that there is no specific connection between the company and the alleged wrongdoing, particularly as it relates to claims of trafficking, conspiracy, and emotional distress.UMG also contends that its name is improperly included in a sprawling list of defendants that spans individuals from the music and television industries, Combs-affiliated companies, and even the estates of deceased producers. The label asserts that it had no supervisory role or direct business relationship with Rivers, and therefore cannot be held accountable for actions allegedly committed by other parties years ago. Furthermore, UMG requests oral argument to clarify and reinforce its position that it should be dismissed from the case entirely, framing its inclusion as speculative and unsupported by concrete evidence or legal grounding.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:gov.uscourts.nysd.637776.133.0_1.pdfBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

Ernie Yates of Stone Eagle joined me for Episode No. 170, and it was an honor and a privilege to meet him and chat for a few. Ernie's pipes Stone Eagle's blues-influenced, southern/stoner rock, and you can keep tabs on them on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter; and you can check out their stuff where you stream. Were you to seek them out in the digital world, you'd likely find "Sirens" from April of this year and their EP, Backside of the Mountain, from 2024.But enough about Stone Eagle; let's talk Ernie.Ernie's a son, a brother, a father, and the flavor of dude you definitely want in your corner. Chill but sharp, relaxed but focused, funny and real.He -- along with Nick Nöthing -- also hosts an online radio show. It's called, "The Midwest Connection," and it can be consumed Wednesdays at 8:30 on bicradio.com. Please check out their fun format.Anyway...Ernie and I talked about life and the discovery of influential music. The latter part of that included a couple of his favorite albums, which were these:Bleach (1989), NirvanaSoundgarden's Superunknown (1994)'Twas but a short list and a brief chat (as these conversations tend to go), but a good one, nonetheless.Thank you to Ernie for donating a sliver of his precious time, and thank you to all whom support the podcast.Cheers.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio tidbits included in the production of this episode. "The purpose of this record is to demonstrate a neglective factor in funnel pickup design. Namely, the ability of the pickup to stay in contact with the groove modulation over a wide range of frequencies and intensities. In other words, to track the groove..." -- DJ Magic Mike, "The House of Magic," Bass is the Name of the Game (1988)I've been peeling back the layers of the music-world onion for as long as I can remember. One of my fondest chapters in that book of memories is the chunk in which my cousin, Rob, lived near me. It was a twoish-year stretch; he and his family lived in Shawnee, KS for a minute, and in Ottawa, KS for another (They've otherwise always been FLA/NJ people.). When he/they moved to the area, though, I'd just entered my first full season as a bona fide (in my mind) music connoisseur. Rob had been doing his own heavy lifting as well. And we got to merge. That pair -- or trio -- of years were incredible for me. Truly life-changing. I got to spend time with my four cousins and my aunt and uncle; had they never made the move, I'd barely've ever known them. They treated me like one of their own, coming to get me on Fridays and returning me on Sundays, seldom leaving the burden on my mom.It was so fantastic. The kids all got along. Frank and Maureen loved each other and showed tons of affection. I felt like my every need was catered to. And Rob and I became closer friends than either of us knew we needed. It's one of the fondest memories of my youth. We ate like kings and were both doted on and left to our own. We played baseball and wrestled and went places in their big-ass van. But more than anything, Rob and I both shared a love of music. And we turned each other on to stuff. And shopped for cassettes. One of the artists my cousin turned me on to -- via his then-freshest release -- was DJ Magic Mike. And I loved it. And I turned a bunch of my homies on to it.It was a pivot in my music education, and my gratitude for that experience has never faded.I love doing this podcast because I get to meet folks.I get to meet them and learn about who they are (in person!) and what they're in to, and what some of their favorite albums have been. It's really been great, and I've felt grateful from Day 1 that this is a thing that I'm doing in Kansas City, because it's a beautiful town with lots of amazing people in and around it.So this one's a me episode because I hit a patch. I talk about five of my faves, which're these:Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti (1975)Junta (1989), PhishDe La Soul's Stakes Is High (1996)Mushroom Jazz (1997), Mark FarinaKurt Vile's Wakin' on a Pretty Daze: Deluxe Daze (Post Haze) (2013)And that's all I have to say about that.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained within this episode (and it's a lengthy list this go-round 'cause I've included some song snippets from my selections) but -- for intro/outro purposes only -- they are snapshots from a tune called, "The Seed (2.0)" by The Roots from their 2002 release, Phrenology, which is a Geffen Records Release c/o UMG Recordings, Inc.

Analytic Dreamz meticulously dissects Drake's Rule 202 petition and TCPA motion for discovery, alleging UMG employed payola, bot-driven amplification, and anticompetitive strategies to propel "Not Like Us" to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Backed by FCC advisories from February 2025, a prior iHeartMedia settlement on February 26, 2025, and detailed deposition requests, Analytic Dreamz outlines the TCPA hearing set for March 24, 2025, aiming to uncover evidence of defamation, fraud, and antitrust violations tied to the track's unprecedented streaming and radio success.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In this episode of Litigation Nation, co-hosts Danessa Watkins and Jack Sanker return from a brief hiatus to delve into two significant legal topics making headlines: recent tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and a high-profile defamation lawsuit involving music industry giants Drake and Kendrick Lamar. We kick off the episode with Jack discussing the newly announced tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, which are set to take effect on March 12, 2025. He explains the implications of these tariffs, including a substantial increase from 10% to 25%, and how they will affect various industries, particularly construction. Jack highlights the statutory powers granted to the president by Congress, specifically referencing the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which allows for such tariff increases under the guise of national security. He emphasizes the potential consequences for businesses reliant on international imports, including price hikes and shortages, and discusses the lack of existing contractual provisions to address these sudden changes in material costs. For the latest on International Trade, Amundsen Davis's Ngosong Fonkem has multiple legal write-ups that can be read on www.amundsendavislaw.com.Transitioning to the second segment, Danessa takes the reins to cover the ongoing defamation lawsuit filed by Drake against UMG Recordings, Inc. The lawsuit stems from a heated feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, which escalated into a series of diss tracks and public accusations. Danessa outlines the timeline of events leading to the lawsuit, including violent incidents that occurred at Drake's home, which he attributes to the fallout from the feud and UMG's actions in promoting Kendrick's diss track, "Not Like Us."The hosts analyze the unique nature of the lawsuit, noting that Drake has chosen to sue the record label rather than Kendrick himself. Danessa discusses the creative and visually engaging nature of Drake's complaint, which includes graphic elements and a dramatic introduction detailing the threats to his safety. The episode explores the legal complexities of defamation, particularly the requirement for public figures like Drake to prove actual malice on the part of UMG.Danessa and Jack emphasize the importance of understanding the legal ramifications of both the tariff situation and the defamation lawsuit, encouraging listeners to stay informed about these evolving issues. They remind the audience to consult legal professionals for guidance in navigating these complex matters, particularly those in the construction industry facing the fallout from the new tariffs.

This Day in Legal History: Outer Space Treaty Enters Into ForceOn October 10, 1967, the Outer Space Treaty, formally known as the "Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies," entered into force. This landmark agreement established a framework for the peaceful use and exploration of outer space, making it a key pillar of international space law. It was signed by the United States, the Soviet Union, and the United Kingdom, and has since been ratified by over 100 nations. The treaty explicitly prohibits the placement of nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in orbit, on the Moon, or on any other celestial body. It also bans military activities and the establishment of military bases in space. One of its central tenets is that space is to be used for the benefit of all humankind, with no country allowed to claim sovereignty over outer space or any celestial body. This treaty was negotiated during the height of the Cold War, reflecting both superpowers' mutual interest in preventing the militarization of space. By laying the groundwork for cooperation and peaceful exploration, it paved the way for future international agreements on space activities, including those addressing environmental concerns and the use of space resources. The Outer Space Treaty remains a cornerstone of space law today, as space exploration continues to evolve and expand. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a $47 million copyright infringement award against Grande Communications Networks LLC, an internet service provider (ISP), on Wednesday. Music publishers, including UMG Recordings and Warner Bros. Records, initially won the award after Grande was found liable for contributing to users' piracy of over 1,400 songs. However, the appeals court ruled that damages should not be awarded for each individual song, but rather for each album, sending the case back to the Texas district court for a new trial on damages. The court affirmed that Grande had failed to prevent repeated piracy by not terminating infringing subscribers, but found that the lower court had erred in its interpretation of statutory damages. This decision aligns with other rulings, such as one involving ISP Cox Communications, where liability for music piracy was affirmed, but damages were reconsidered.Appeals Court Undoes $47 Million Music Piracy Award Against ISPGSK has agreed to settle around 80,000 lawsuits, paying up to $2.2 billion over claims that the discontinued heartburn drug Zantac caused cancer. This settlement covers about 93% of the cases pending in U.S. state courts. The drugmaker maintains that there is no consistent evidence linking Zantac's active ingredient, ranitidine, to cancer but decided to settle to avoid prolonged litigation. Additionally, GSK will pay $70 million to settle a related whistleblower case. Zantac, once a blockbuster drug, faced scrutiny after the FDA in 2020 found that ranitidine could break down into a carcinogen, NDMA. Other pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and Sanofi have also reached settlements, but Boehringer Ingelheim continues to face trials. In a recent Delaware ruling, plaintiffs were allowed to present expert testimony linking Zantac to cancer, while a Florida federal court had dismissed around 50,000 cases due to unreliable evidence. GSK agrees to settle about 80,000 Zantac lawsuits for up to $2.2 bln | ReutersFTX investors have voluntarily dropped their class action lawsuit against Sullivan & Cromwell, a prominent U.S. law firm. The investors had accused the firm of aiding FTX's multibillion-dollar fraud and benefiting as FTX's lead bankruptcy counsel. However, lead attorney Adam Moskowitz stated that after reviewing reports by FTX bankruptcy examiner Robert Cleary, there was no valid claim against the law firm. Cleary's reports found no evidence that Sullivan & Cromwell was complicit in FTX's collapse or that it ignored warning signs while representing former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried. Sullivan & Cromwell welcomed the withdrawal of what it called "meritless claims." The lawsuit had alleged that the firm had unique insight into FTX's lack of internal controls and questionable practices. Meanwhile, FTX's bankruptcy plan, approved this week, will allow the company to repay customers using $16.5 billion in recovered assets. Plaintiffs' attorneys also reached a separate agreement with the FTX bankruptcy estate regarding customer claims. Host Tiokasin Ghosthorse welcomes Marley Shebala back to the show. Marley Shebala, Diné and A:shiwi (or Zuni), is an investigative journalist, photographer, videographer and blogger. Marley talks about the continuing, alarming issue of transporting uranium waste across portions of the Navajo Nation, which already started several years ago. Without any notice, the transportation of uranium waste is taking place not only at Navajo Nation but also Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. This affects not only the Navajo Nation but also Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada so communities need to find out where this transportation route goes. If the sovereign Navajo Nation is not being notified about this route it's unlikely other communities (cities, towns and rural areas) are being notified about the transport of this waste through their communities and its dangers. People need to be aware of how uranium waste could contaminate people, roads, air, water, etc. (virtually everything). For years Marley has been covering the uranium issue on the 25,000 square-mile Navajo Nation. Most of the Navajo Nation has been contaminated by uranium. Many, may Navajo people have been suffering and continue to suffering from different cancers, children were and continue to be born with defects, etc. However, the US federal government thinks that depleted uranium can still be used: for weapons of war and by somehow turning uranium waste into a type of fuel that will be “clean” nuclear energy for household uses. This is a huge national, and global issue. There is a small group of Diné people traveling to DC at the end of September. They will be traveling in a bus and telling people along the way what they have gone through and asking others if they have also been poisoned and made sick by depleted uranium, too. For more background about today's discussion, please visit “Requiem for RECA (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act)” by Kathy Helms, who has been covering this issue for years: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/requiem-reca-kathy-helms-ohuvc/. Follow Marley on Facebook, where she will be posting information about the DC trip and the activities that will happen there (as well as covering Navajo Nation activities): https://www.facebook.com/marley.shebala. Additional important information about this issue and many others can be found on Marley's website: http://www.dineresourcesandinfocenter.org/ About Marley: In the Diné way, Marley Shebala is Tó'aheedlíinii (Water Flows Together clan), her mother's clan, and born for Cha'al (Frog clan), which is her father's clan. Her mom is from Lake Valley, New Mexico, which is in the eastern part of the Navajo Nation and next to Chaco Canyon, New Mexico. Her father is from the Pueblo of Zuni, New Mexico. Her hometowns are Lake Valley and Zuni. “Marley Shebala's Notebook” is her website where she provides current news coverage of the Navajo government and Navajo communities on and off the Navajo Nation. She also produces Navajo Nation environmental news and political analysis of the Navajo government and legislative process. Marley hosted "Politics on the Navajo Nation," an internet news show. But due to unreliable WIFI on the Navajo Nation where she resides, the weekly news show was cancelled until she can raise funds to increase WiFi power at her residence. She is available for presentations on the benefits of a free and open press in Indian Country and how to achieve accurate and fair news coverage of the Navajo Nation and Indian Country. Marley works part-time at the Gallup Independent newspaper, which is headquartered in Gallup, New Mexico. She is the only reporter at the Gallup Independent Diné Bureau in Window Rock, Arizona, which covers the Navajo Nation. Before working for the Gallup Independent, she worked as the Navajo Times newspaper's' Senior Reporter specializing in investigative reporting on politics, domestic violence, law enforcement, veterans and the environment. She also covered a wide range of general interest stories. Her stories have won numerous awards from state and national organizations over the more than 30 years she has been in journalism. Mokuhanga has the ability to take the artist or craftsperson anywhere they would like to be. From the subject matter in their studio to physical movement around the world, teaching, exploring, and discovering. Wonder and beauty is what makes mokuhanga so special. In this episode of The Unfinished Print, I speak with printmaker Jacqueline Gribbin, who has spent years honing her craft in mokuhanga and other printmaking techniques across Japan, Southeast Asia, and Australia. We discuss her deep connection with Indigenous communities, collaborating with the late Ralph Kiggell, and exploring the nuances of water-based and oil-based mokuhanga. Jaqueline explains her experiences traveling to isolated communities, conducting workshops, and sharing her passion for printmaking. We'll explore her teaching methods, the importance of community in her work, and how she balances creating and selling her prints. Please follow The Unfinished Print and my own mokuhanga work on Instagram @andrezadoroznyprints or email me at theunfinishedprint@gmail.com Notes: may contain a hyperlink. Jacqueline Gribbin - website Shifting Tides (2022) Nagasawa Art Park (MI Lab) Awaji City - Nagasawa Art Park was an artist-in-residence program located in Awaji City, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. It was open for 12 years before evolving into MI Lab in 2012. More info, here. Keiko Kadota (1942-2017) - was the director of Nagasawa Art Park at Awaji City from 1997-2011, and then of MI Lab at Lake Kawaguchi from 2011 until her passing. Toru Ueba - was a print instructor at Nagasawa Art Park, and was one of Yoonmi's instructors in 2004. Ralph Kiggell (1960-2022) - was one of the most important mokuhanga practitioners. Originally from England, Ralph lived and worked in Thailand. Ralph pushed the boundaries of mokuhanga with extremely large pieces, jigsaw carving, and by using fantastic colour. He also worked with the International Mokuhanga Conference to promote mokuhanga around the world. He will be greatly missed. Ralph's work can be found, here. His obituary in The Guardian can be found, here. His interview with The Unfinished Print can be found, here. Orange Flower On Blue Hiroki Satake - is a mokuhanga printmaker, and instructor based in Japan. He has taught at MI Lab, as well as given demonstrations regarding tool sharpening, around the world. Instagram 赤絵(アンドレ・マルティ「狼よ!」より) (2022) 34.7cm×28.4cm registration - there are several registration methods in mokuhanga. The traditional method is called the kentō registration, where you carve two notches, straight another an "L." There is also a "floating kentō," which is where the notches are cut in a piece of "L" shaped wood and not on the wood where you are cutting your image, hence "floating." Lastly, there are removable "pins," such as ones made by Ternes Burton. bokashi - is a mokuhanga technique, where the pigment fades from a heavy colour to a softer, broad colour. Made famous by prints designed by Hokusai and Hiroshige, this technique is, for me, the most popular technique utilized by mokuhanga printmakers. There are various types: Ichimoji-bokashi or straight line graduation, used in the above mentioned Hiroshige and Hokusai prints. Ichimoji-mura-bokashi or straight line gradation with uneven edge. Ō-bokashi or wide gradation, Ate-nashi-bokashi or gradation without definition. Futa-iro-bokashi or two tone gradation, and ita-bokashi or softer-edge gradation, where the block is cut in a specific way to achieve this style of gradation. All of these styles of bokashi technique take practice and skill but are very much doable. Below is a fine example of bokashi by Paul Binnie: The Torii Gate at Miyajima (2009) 37.5 x 26cm sizing paper - at times mokuhanga printmakers will size their paper. Size is made from water, animal glue (rabbit, horse), and alum. What the size does is keep the pigments the artist uses from “bleeding” into the outer edges of the paper. There are many recipes of size, here is one that artist Walter J. Phillips used. intaglio printing - is a printing method, also called etching, using metal plates such as zinc, and copper, creating “recessed” areas which are printed with ink on the surface of these "recesses.” More info, here. She was the first woman to hold the office and remains one of the most influential figures in British political history. Leading the Conservative Party, Thatcher implemented a series of economic policies known as "Thatcherism," which emphasized deregulation, privatization of state-owned industries, and reducing the power and influence of trade unions. Her tenure was marked by significant economic transformation, as well as controversial measures that sparked widespread debate and protest. Tamarind Institute - was originally founded in Los Angeles in 1960 by June Wayne, and is a world renowned center for fine art lithography. Established to revive and sustain the art of lithography, which was in decline in the United States, Tamarind quickly became a leader in the education and promotion of lithographic techniques. In 1970, the institute moved to the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where it continues to thrive as a key institution in the printmaking world. Dedicated to advancing the lithographic arts through rigorous education, collaborative projects, and the production of high-quality prints, the Tamarind Institute's influence extends globally, contributing significantly to the development and appreciation of lithography as a vibrant art form. And instead of taking a long break or jumping to big budget movies, Spike decided to rein everything back in for another slice of life about another of his many loves - jazz. Granted, his writing efforts were a bit disjointed, a bit lacking in story to make everything well-rounded. But Spike still brought all his visual powers to bear with a cast that absolutely knocks out their roles, even if they're a bit thin on the page. And don't forget to hit the Merch' store. Get you a sticker and a t-shirt. Thank you for stopping by.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio. Jake Truelove is a son, a brother, a partner, a father, a business owner, and a tried-and-true fan of the greatest rock-and-roll band in American history.I was pleased as punch to get Jake in the chair for Episode #39 of Badass Records Podcast, and we were able to mix it up over not only his favorite Phish album, Live in Brooklyn (2006), but also his current love, Goose.I've known Jake for most of a decade and he's a go-getter that knows what he wants, and makes no bones about the way in which he gets there. He's the third fan of the Denver Broncos Football Club that I've had on as a guest, and -- thankfully -- it's all bad-punchline jokes for that AFC West franchise this season. And here in the heartland, we of course hope that that trend continues.I'm glad you're here reading these words, and since you've come this far, please consider doing me a solid and give our conversation a listen or a view. When this drops, we'll be 10 days into November, which I think is deep enough into the calendar year to officially call this the holiday season. To that end, I hope that the coming weeks find you hanging with friends and loved ones whose company you enjoy.Cheers to you and yours, and consider being kind to strangers as we start the journey toward 2023.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio. They are clips taken from a tune called, "A Go Go," which is the title track from a 1998 John Scofield record (c/o The Verve Music Group, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.) that features Medeski Martin & Wood. That last phrase should be enough information to let you know that A Go Go is, in fact, a badass record.
Jeff Shifley carved out some time from his busy schedule to come kick it with me of noon on a Sunday. We enjoyed a couple of beverages and attempted to dissect a few of his favorite albums: Jane's Addiction's Ritual de lo Habitual (1991), Phish's Hoist (1994), and one of the most badass records of all time, Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin (1975).In addition to sharing our novice-like expertise on a truly fantastic trio of releases, we also talked about work and parenthood and growing up and the weird thing that is this world we live in today. It was a really great time, and I couldn't be more pleased that we found a window on the calendar to bullshit and just be a pair of duderinos. When Jeff's not busy parenting or husbanding or slingin' brown paper bags, you can probably find him on the diamond or on the court wearing his coaching hat. He's a hell of a guy. I do hope you'll check out our chat.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the inro/outro audio clips. They are samples taken from a tune called "Mount Airy Hill (Way Gone)," which is off of the new (April) Kurt Vile album, watch my moves, which you can (and should) stream or buy in one of all of the places in which one does such things. Said track, by the way, comes to you and I courtesy of Verve Records, c/o overnite kv incorporated, under exclusive license to Verve Label Group, a division of UMG Recordings. Whew! Didja' catch all that? 'Cause it was kind of a lot.

Rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, is being sued by a Texas pastor after he claimed parts of a sermon he gave were sampled without his permission. Bishop David Paul Moten claims that 70 seconds of his material were used on the track "Come to Life" from West's Grammy-nominated album "Donda." Moten is also suing G.O.O.D Music, Def Jam Recordings and UMG Recordings over the use of his sermon in the song. Dmitry Bivol, in one of the biggest boxing upsets in recent memory, scored a unanimous decision over the sport's top star, Canelo Alvarez, on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. All three judges scored the fight 115-113, but the bout wasn't nearly that close. Still, Bivol needed to win the final rounds on all three cards to avoid a draw. Equally puzzling: All three judges scored the first four rounds for Alvarez. Before You Go co-host Nicole Franklin has the honor of inviting her longtime friend Juanita Smith who shares memories of her composer husband Hale Smith with Bryant Monteilh and the audience. It's a walk through musical history as Hale Smith's work in the genres of classical, jazz and spirituals brought him, Juanita and their family from Cleveland, Ohio to New York City. Upon arriving in NYC, Juanita quickly found work at the United Nations and Hale was surrounded by a nucleus of talent which included Kathleen Battle, Randy Weston, Melba Liston, Dizzy Gillespie, Ron Carter, Ahmad Jamal and more. Juanita is now the publisher of her late husband's spiritual arrangements and because of her impeccable memory, her stories are filled with evidentiary facts and fascinating encounters. This episode originally aired on KBLA Talk 1580 in Los Angeles. The music of Hale Smith heard in this episode may be found here: 1) This Little Light Of Mine"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUd7RMPQAxUProvided to YouTube by NAXOS of America This Little Light of Mine (arr. On this very special episode of Atomic Mind Dump, we remember our brother Tony in the only manner we know how, with immature sincerity. Chad kicks things off with a toenail anecdote. Ricardo has a new look, new name, and new priorities. Allen still can't understand the concept of rock fights. Bobbie made big changes to escape a possible curse. Brain has a Walter White view of his life. Rest in peace, Tony. Music: Boyz II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday © 1991 UMG Recordings, Inc.
