dattrax: What's going on in your world Fellow House Lovers??!! Welcome to the place where house music rests.I hope that all is well with you and your life. That you stay positive and win the tiny battles in your mind for your benefit. That you are striving to improve each day. Working and grinding at your passions. Discarding or displacing any negative thoughts or people. Surrounded by people who love and don't judge you. But they check you when you're going off the rails. You can't just do anything, right? LMAO. That's my Chinese fortune cookie for today.I hope that you enjoy this mix and that it puts a smile on your face and a bounce in your steps. Thank you for stopping by and giving us a listen. We really really appreciate you. The Podomatic dashboard analytics say that our mixes are being listened to and downloaded by thousands all over the world. We move from #7 to #35 in just the house music category in Podomatic and I believe that's over 6,000 house music podcast creators. Thank you for helping us with that. This mix starts off with much more aggressive energy. You'll feel like you just entered the club at the height of the party. [The playlist needs some scrolling down these show notes].Felt like a more thumpin' mix. I usually like a smooth journey from mellow to wherever I'd like to go and end up, but wanted something different for this one. This is a short but sweet mix. Just an hour and 8mins (not like the 3-4hr excursions I've been taking the last few years to release all the negativity from my mind, heart, and body). [I was getting myself into the mood since I was hours from DJing a private BDay party of a Toronto chef and now a friend, Jo Castrinos. WOWZERS. What a party!! Incredible event space and crowd!! I spun for 3.5hrs!!]I had to cut off the last track short because of a major trainwreck. LMAO. Yes, not DJing too frequently over the last 6mths and it's something I need to do 3X's per week in order to stay sharp. We're fanatics when it comes to house music. Ever since I was 15yrs old. Started buying vinyl records at 18. 36 crates of records later, then moved to almost 8,000 digital tracks. Compulsive and obsessive? Definitely. Enjoy my passion over the last 30+yrs. It keeps me young and I'd probably give young house DJs a run for their money. Ha ha ha.All the best to you and to your continued success or your progress toward your comeback (I'm working on my comeback from a really shitty 2022). If you're new to our brand/style of house music, then I'd recommend these 7 mixes as an intro. There are 145+ mixes on this site. The music is fresh as we've always bought cutting-edge sounds in multiple genres of house music. We love to listen, spin and dance to what's great in house, regardless of groupings. I still buy 30-60 tracks per month. Yes, still addicted to house music at 49yrs old.

Today, it's my birthday! For the occasion, I've decided to share a special interview with Tim Lawrence, one of the most profoundly passionate music historians of the New York Dance scene of the 70s and early 80s I have ever met. And what better day to honour the legacy of David Mancuso? Birthdays. David loved birthdays. In the children's home where he grew up, Sister Alicia used to hold birthday parties for all the kids under her care.I've spoken about this with Tim Lawrence and the other issues related to the music at The loft, David Mancuso and the History Of New York City party culture. Tim is a Professor of Cultural Studies and Co-director of the Centre for Cultural Studies Research. He teaches music and is the author of seminal books. One above all, "Love saves the day". A brilliant documentation of the dance and disco scene in New York during the 1970s with interviews from key players in the era, such as Frankie Knuckles, Francis Grasso, Nicky Siano, etc. In today's interview, Tim passionately shared the details and his own experiences. Honestly, it was more than an interview. I wish I could spend more time listening to Tim, shedding light on the contribution of music legends and what New York in the 70s was all about. I hope you will experience the same! ✨Enjoy listening

Terence Toy started spinning house tracks in the early 80s, back when the genre was progressing through major east coast cities with velocity. The late New York house DJ David Bryant was a mentor to Terence and turned him on to the deep, funky sound of the underground scene. Bryant's perceptive advice to Terence was, “to be really successful in this business, these are the grooves to play.” Terence never looked back.To the benefit of his audience, Terence brings to his turntables his experience as a trained musician. He's a skilled drummer, he reads music and was a member of his high school band. He understands music theory and is an expert at reconstructing verses, bridges and breaks. Terence is also an accomplished composer and producer of house music, including deep house, R&B house, gospel house, Afro-Cuban rhythms and Afro-tech.His roots embody the styles of New Jersey swing to the Miami sound to Chicago warehouse; the beats and tempos speak to him. Soulful-vocal-house and straight-ahead jazz have always moved him equally.Click the links below to listen to the tracks we played on our episode with Terence, plus a few more including Terence's musical response to George Floyd and the story about it.http://www.terencetoy.com/https://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/i-want-you-ill-atmospherics-seeks-refuge-afro-latin-house-mix?si=ebce5c48cbff4b1aac39c875bf2042c8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/terence-toy-feat-louis-hale-lets-get-jousey-isr-remix https://soundcloud.com/terencetoy-music/terence-toy-love-is-losinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/shot-of-your-love-illatmospherices-seeks-refuge-remix?si=ebce5c48cbff4b1aac39c875bf2042c8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharinghttps://soundcloud.com/terencetoy/thinkgeorge-floydhttps://www.randomlengthsnews.com/archives/2020/06/26/think-george-floyd/28993
Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! Little Louie Vega is incredible if you've seen him live. This guy mixes like the songs were produced together, not like separate tracks. He DJs like a musician- can't even describe it, you have to experience him. I always wonder what it's like to know how house music tracks are made from conception to post production, and then spin them? Jim and I just know what house tracks we love, but we know nothing about music, composition, etc. We just like what we like and hope that some people like it too. I'd hate if a musician listened to us.This is one of my favourite of Mr. Vegas' authorized mixes. Full of energy and beautiful house music. Relentless, track after track. I can't tell you how many records the duo of Little Louie Vega and his partner Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Masters At Work (M.A.W.) that Jim and I own and own doubles of. There was a time when we were partying, that almost everything good was made by these guys. I bet there are more MAW records in house DJs' collections than any other producers.Roger Sanchez. That name just gets a period. Definitive. I've been to probably four parties in Toronto where he was headlining- never a disappointment. I kicked myself the last few times he was in Toronto and I missed him. Smooth as butter and his passion shows through his performance. He loves it! Three decks- seamless- TIGHT (there's a picture of him in the DJ Dictionary if there is one). No computer w/ beatlock – a DJ's DJ. I'm so happy that when I catch him on YouTube and stuff he's playing w/ cds. Nothing like old & new tech together. He's always having a blast w/ the crowd. Not the stone face DJ, seen one of those lately? Don't love what you do? Go do something else Man!The greats always make it look easy and fun. Then the masses go out and spend tons of money and realize that ‘hey, this is hard'.The title of these two mixes comes from the chorus of an Everything But The Girl cover by Nicola on this mixed cd, “Missing”. I just loved that line, “Like the desert missed the rain”. I almost spelled it ‘dessert' by accident at first.Chuck Love's mixed cd was such an exciting gem of a purchase! His tracks have a older, familiar feel, but such a bumpy energy that charges forward. Very organic sounds and instruments, but has such a fresh edge to them. Joy. He is new to us, but will be looking for him. Can't tell you how much I love his music.Loved the track “Shy” from the Matthew Dear CD. We have a few of his tracks on vinyl. Techy, w/ awesome alternative rock sounding vocals. We hope that you enjoy these two mixes as much as we love sharing them!---------------Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! Went into an HMV at Bloor & Yonge in Downtown Toronto a while ago for some mixed house cd listening. I needed a house music fix badly. Stayed for hours listening to at least 40 "electronica" cds. They hated me there because the staff have to reseal the ones that you don't buy. CDs are expensive, you have to love what you spend your hard earned dollars on. Bought these five for about $130 w/ taxes:"In The House: Little Louie Vega" mixed by Little Louie Vega. I lent this double mixed cd to a good friend (another DJ) a few weeks after buying it, and haven't seen it since. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I hope you feel guilty. It's fine, we'll still be friends, just give it back please…"Asa Breed" by Matthew Dear. Great techy tracks."Release Yourself" mixed by Roger Sanchez. The “S” Man, NUFF SAID!"Bring Enough To Spill Some” mixed by Chuck Love. WOW! This guy's music is CRAZY!“F*** Me I'm Famous!” mixed David Guetta Not bad, like some tracks.Listened to these for about a week, then marked all the tracks that I loved, the levels, when the vocals started, and made these two mixes. Took a few takes. I never put this much preparation into a mix, because usually just like to have fun and if it sucks, then toss it. Usually one out of 10, I keep. Hey... baseball players are making millions at 3 out of 10. One out of 10 isn't too bad, I guess. Also, because the tracks were from these authorized mixed cds that have been mastered professionally w/ top dollar, these two mixes by default sound amazing.---------------Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! We would like to start this mix with a tribute to a great artist, Michael Jackson. I remember as a kid glued to the TV Set every Saturday evening, waiting for the most popular music video countdown of the week (CHUMFM 30 on a Toronto TV channel called CityTV). Michael was #1 for 57weeks straight. And I heard it every week and still loved it. Kids and adults walking around with knockoffs of his red w/ black stripes and zippered jacket (in his Thriller video). It was insane! This mix starts with the Michael Jackson bootleg by Masters At Work, "Rock With You". The duo of Little Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez. The house music producers today stand on the shoulders of these giants! This one track/ one sided vinyl came with a no printed words or images- just black coloured. Now that's hardcore! How would you like to sell something with no words or pictures? Once people dropped the needle at the record store and you heard MJ's voice- you pulled out the little scraps of money that you had working at your crappy retail or restaurant job. It was worth it.Jim: Michael has influenced artists in the areas of music production, music videos and dancing choreography among other things. You will get the same feeling (that we get) when you hear this first song. Then it's a parade of house songs. Warning: DO NOT PLAY THIS IN THE BACKGROUND WHILE WORKING, because you will not get anything done. THIS MIX will not be restrained in the background!---------------Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes. Just Google 'dattrax' and you'll find all places online that we've been a part of. La music story du jour c'est celle des Masters At Work… Kenny Dope Gonzales et Little Louie Vega, c'est l'alliance des différences, le mélange de cultures musicales… l'un baigne dans la house depuis ses débuts, l'autre s'inspire du rap et du hip hop et les deux adorent les rythmes salsa. Un cocktail détonnant au service d'une discographie canonisée et blindée de hits comme « I Can't Get No Sleep »

Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! In an ideal world I'd love to pump out a mix a week, and much respect to the DJs that regularly pump out house mixes. Lots of discipline and love displayed there. Thank you to all the HOUSE DJS out there for sharing with people your hard work finding the gems, and piecing together something that can be enjoyed with multiple listens and shared with like-minded friends. Now with the internet- there's too much choice and it's so easy to share one's vision of house music with others. So I wanted to enjoy, learn and be inspired by my fellow Brothers and Sisters in HOUSE in our beloved city of Toronto.IT'S NEVER BEEN THIS GOOD FOR HOUSE MUSIC!!Toronto is a city brimming with underground house music fiends for over 20yrs because of so many great DJs paving the way and making people fall in love with this music, DJs that have influenced my DJ partner and best friend, Jim and I through many many great memories and tons of record hunting... back to influences: Kevin Williams, Mark & Aki, Peter, Tyrone & Shams (PTS), Dave Campbell, Jason Palma, Dino & Terry, Noel Nanton, Nick Holder, Patrick "D-Nice", Eric Ling and many more. More recently Jason B., Gene King & Jason Hodges. Some of our Outside-of-Toronto house dj or producer influences have been (that first come to mind): Little Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez (MAW), Derrick Carter, Wally Calleiro, Phonique, Luke Solomon and Justin Harris (MFF), Roger Sanchez, John Tejada, Alland Byallo, Stas Shiprinksi, Lee Kalts, Soul Clap, Greenskeepers, Said Chaara, Matthew Dear, Chuck Love, Chuck Daniel, DJ Sneak, Cevin Fisher, Rob Mello, Dub Taylor, Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, Doc Martin, Frankie Knuckles, Fingers Inc., etc., etc., etc. and then some...With every track bought, every mix made, and every gig played we pay tribute to all the house producers and house DJs that have impacted us over the years and to all the house promoters that gave us all those magical nights and even the not so great nights to learn what we didn't like. We are very grateful of all these experiences and all the wonderful people we've met over the years. Afterall, are we not the sum total of all we've every experienced and the result of every day to day decision?---------------Reach out to us and comment if you like our mixes. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! Decided on a mock interview format to share our thoughts on some House DJ related topics we've seen online lately, PART1...We hope that you enjoy this mix also. Cheers, dattraxWHAT IS WITH ALL THIS HOOPLA ONLINE ABOUT DJS WHO USE SYNC BUTTONS TO MATCH BEATS?Sync or no-sync, at the end of the day it's about rocking crowds, making great memories and experiences, so it doesn't matter. If you have fans, then someone likes what you do, then that's what we're all after isn't it?Having said this, there are a few things we'd like to share:Some big DJs like DeadMau5, David Guetta and Steve Angelo, etc. who use premixed mixes for live shows are like modern day rock stars with legions of fans paying lots of money to listen to their pre-programmed sets, so it seems that this is what their fans want, their form of 'live' entertainment. Doesn't seem that their fans care if it's really live or not.DNothing wrong with that. Loud music blasting in your ears while you dance your stress & worries away is what it's always been about.Don't really have a beef with pre-programed sets or synced mixing, but our beef is with pretending to DJ and then denying that they are syncing, etc (recent example is the online scuffle between DJ Sneak and Steve Angelo about 'fake djing'- remember the Milli Vanilli lip syncing scandal in '80s? Same deal).Angelo apparently denies this, even after images and youtube vids of him at live events circulate all over Facebook that prove otherwise. Angelo has a massive following that love his tunes, so what's the big deal Stevie? Just say you do and so what if you do, but don't say that you play live when you clearly don't.Syncing is important for DJs like Richie Hawtin. Hawtin is a pioneer, a scientist and master show man- working a laser light show, always mixing four tracks at the same time, doing 1/2 a dozen effects at any one time. In his case, beat matching has to take a backseat so he can create and inspire. That's different. If you just mix two records together (like we do), then why do that? The fun for us has always been in the mixing! The ups and downs of trying different track combos, different house genre combos, playing tracks at different speeds or EQ settings that we enjoy rather than what they were created at, using line levels and cross faders to change the tension between during mixes, mixing out properly to not change the tempo in an undesired way, seeing how what we do fail or succeed in getting a shared reaction of joy from a fellow House Fiend. We grew up with great Toronto DJs, like Aki. who was mixing beautiful house journeys in smoky, dark & packed warehouse parties before dj mixers had single channel EQs or effects buttons (the internet, mp3's, Facebook or cell phones). Listen for yourself- just house music and mixing. This mix was on cassette tape (google it!) made in 1996 by Aki with two twelves and a old school mixer:http://torontohousedjs.podomatic.com/entry/2011-03-03T10_38_24-08_00We forked out good money each week to go crazy to amazing talents like Jason Palma, PTS (Peter, Tyrone & Shams), Dave Campbell, Kevin Williams and Dino & Terry- these guys made you danced till the sun rose.We saw out of town talents like Roger Sanchez, Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Cevin Fisher, DJ Sneak and Little Louie Vega blow our minds with 2 or 3 vinyl turntables- all these guys made us grow more in love with house music each time we partied to their brand of house! The art and wonder of it all. Learning what we liked or didn't like about the mixing or music programming. Always learning and having fun along the way.We also take issue with some DJs saying that beat matching is so easy and take no time to learn to justify their syncing. We just have one question:"If it's so easy, then why are you using the sync??!!"If you want to sync, then do it, it's your art form and the way you want to express yourself. Just don't pretend that you do it because it's not worth your creative focus & energies, or that you don't when you in fact do. Life is simple but some people choose to make it difficult.---------------Reach out to us and comment. Just Google 'dattrax' and you'll find all places online that we've been a part of. Welcome to Showcasing House Music DJ Mixes by dattrax!! 'Electric City' is a tribute to the city we love and where we fell in love with house music, Toronto. A tribute to it's community of house music DJs, producers, promoters, club owners, everyone involved and the all the party people/ the dancers (included those of us who can't dance but love to ;)This is a tribute to the house we got into, grew into, grew up in and fell in love with each time we heard these tracks. A huge hi-five, hug and thank you to all the singers, producers and DJs that made and played these tracks!!'Classic House' is a shifting definition... just depends on when you got into house and when those first 5-6 formative years were for you. For us tracks made in 1985-1996 are considered 'classic' but we started partying in 1990 and from 1990-1996 we were privileged to have heard and danced to the earlier tracks. For 'Electric City', I wanted to go for the 'what old is new again' intent, so it's not entirely a classic house mix because it contains some instrumental tracks that were created past '96 and I included covers and remixes of classics that had the same feel, had great sound quality and didn't care when those were actually produced. For the regular classics, sound quality was paramount also, but had to make exceptions for "Move" and "Music Take Me Up" because they are such wicked tracks (were my poor attempts at transferring my vinyl to digital). I'm sorry but on "Emotions Electric" was a CD version I bought at Sam The Record Man (sadly not in biz anymore)... back to my apology, I cranked the bass too much so...Over 5yrs ago, I wasted almost two months in the cracks of time between work and family recording a crate and a half (150 records) into my computer. Realised afterwards that because I had a crappy sound card the digitized tracks were flat sounding). After that Jim and I just started buying classics on beatport, traxsource, itunes and defected and probably 90% of the time the sound quality was excellent.Got a few classic tracks from friends like Eric Ling, Gene King, Devon Wills and Tyrone Solomon. Then Roberto Pinto told me about Discogs and all my classic house vinyl dreams are gonna coming true. We keep saying but bears repeating: "This is the best time for house music. Period!"As always, we hope you enjoy this mix and that it gives you that house feeling from head to toe. (If you were so inclined, then please donate any amount you'd like to with the paypal button to the right side of this site. We've had two donations in the last four years of operating this site, but hoping to set a record this year & you can be a part of that;)---------------Listed are the 42 tracks in order and a few sentences about each: (Really want to give you a little history of our early journey):cover by FCL- "It's You" (2012) Original (1986) "It's You" by E.S.P. Love this acapella cover!! Thought this would be a great start to this mix. Don't have a good quality version of the original.A Guy Called Gerald- "Emotions Electric" (1988) DJ AKI from the warehouse days made me love this track, it's so beautiful. Bought it on CD many years ago and always wanted to put it on a mix.Murk (Oscar G & Ralf Falcon)/ Coral Way Chiefs *moniker- "Release Myself" (1992) First heard this at a warehouse party on Spadina Ave, south of Dundas St in Toronto's main downtown Chinatown. It was at a "PTS" party!! Peter, Tyrone & Shams dominated warehouse parties for a few summers. Tightest house djs. Shams actually played this track off of reel to reel!!!!!!!!!! Mixing from reel to reel to vinyl turntables- BADASS!!Bobby Konders- "The Poem" (1990) Jim & I first head this at 'RPM All Ages Sundays' DJ'ed by Matt C. Jim flipped out and bought his first house records the next day. Think we met weeks later both stomping like maniacs at the speaker bins. We were 16 and were like: "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS STUFF!! THIS MUSIC IS WICKED!!!"Satoshi Tomiie- "And I Loved You" feat. vocals by Arnold Jarvis (1990) This was a record from my very 1st record purchases. It was summer time and I walked into a record store on Yonge St., downtown called "Carnival" and met Tyrone Solomon (of PTS fame!). Nicest guy and bought Shades of Black's "SHADOWS" EP on some label called 'Intrigue', I think. Can't imagine how many times I've heard this beautiful record and at countless parties.cover by Phonique- "Feel What You Want" feat. vocals by Rebecca (2012) Original (1994) by Rob Dougan & Rollo Armstrong & Kristine W (also featuring her vocals) Jim bought doubles of the original Kristine W. We were crammed into his bedroom when he 1st played it for me- I FLIPPED OUT!! Jim loved phasing doubles and then playing them purposely slightly off beat- sounded wicked!! Now you can do it with a 'delay' effects button. He made a mix on cassette tape, then we went downtown looking for a warehouse party. Love this cover done by Phonique and Rebecca, they keep the original feel but brought a freshness to this timeless vocal track.M.A.W.- "I Can't Get No Sleep" remixed by David Morales (1995) First time I heard this was at a warehouse party near Wellesley St., around 6am, after working nightshift at 7West Cafe. Vince Ailey's friend was DJing. Can't remember his name but was a towering spanish guy, great guy. The way he expertly slowly drifted these two minutes of drum intro into the last song. I was dancing non-stop and when that India vocal came in- WOW!!Tommy Musto- "Take Some Time Out" feat. vocals by Arnold Jarvis (1987) This vocal still gives me goosebumps!! Was a fav at many warehouse jams!remixed by Bush II Bush- "You're Gonna Miss Me" (2007) Original by Turntable Orchestra – "You're Gonna Miss Me" (1988) Love the original the best but don't have a clean, good quality digital copy and my vinyl's all scratched up. This is a really good remix bringing modern day tight, bright sounds to this classic vocal.Bang The Party- "Bang-Bang You're Mine" (1990) First time I heard this was at my pal, Moses' house, we were wrecked and he was mixing this and Fingers Inc tracks. We were all 16yrs old and couldn't believe this house music stuff!!cover by Xakosa- "Miss Me" feat. vocals by Kenny Thomas (2013) Original by Turntable Orchestra – "You're Gonna Miss Me" (1988) This is such a good cover with a jackin' beat, had to include also even though played another version already. Back in the day, DJs like AKI and PTS would tease you by playing parts of a track, 5-6 times during the night- just a sliver, a few beats each time, just enough of a hook. That's how they broke tracks! By the 5th time, everyone was so excited that the whole room was bouncing with hands in the air!Bobby D'Ambrosio– "Moment Of My Life" feat. vocals by Michelle Weeks (1997) This is one of the most uplifting vocal house tracks out there! Michelle Weeks baby!! Man, there are probably 250 classic house tracks I'd love to put in mixes if I only had clean digital versions. One can dream.M.A.W.- "I Get Lifted" feat. vocals by Barbara Tucker remixed by John Ciafone (1994) Don't know a house dj worth his salt that doesn't have two dozen Masters At Work vinyl records. Priceless track. Feelin' this?Masters At Work or M.A.W.(Little Louie Vega & Kenny Dope Gonzalez)- "I Can't Get No Sleep" feat. vocals by India (1993) Had to include the original. First time we heard this was years before that David Morales remix played earlier. We were at "Kat Klub", just south west of Church St & Queen St E. Kevin Williams, rubbed the celophone cover off of the record on his jeans and SLAMMED this down. He could MIX!! Kevin was actually the first LIVE house DJ i had heard at 16 at "GO GO's", in the 'White Room' on Richmond St & Duncan. He BURNED through records with fast change ups. At the end of the night, Jason Palma said there was a STACK of records in a pile beside him OUTSIDE of their sleeves!! He mixes with a frenzy! Jason told that story and I felt it on the dance floor but wasn't privy to the DJ booth ; ) I got in with my cousin's 21yr old ID, I guess since every Chinese guy at that time looked the same ; ) Great for me!Thompson & Lenoir (LNR)- "Can't Stop The House" (1987) LNR, same guys that made the warehouse classic "Work It To The Bone"!! Wish I had a clean copy of that! First time Jim and I heard this was at 616 Yonge St., around Wellesley. When AKI threw this down, we almost put our fists through the wall it was that exciting!! FLIPPED OUT! That's HOUSE MUSIC. Murk (Oscar G & Ralf Falcon)/ Liberty City *moniker– "Some Lovin'" (1992) I loved this track so much that for a whole summer, every warehouse I went to, I 'requested' this track. Drove AKI and the rest nuts. But this vocal was SOOOOOOO DIRTY!!! That MURK feel, those baselines!! Then we saw Liberty City perform it live at The OZ on Mercer St.Jestofunk-"Stellar Funk" remixed by Lazzaro (1997) This congo instrumental I played the crap out of back in the vinyl days, mixed it with dozens of different vocals. My personal policy is NEVER REPEAT a combo and it's brought joy to every situation. Great track!!Joe Smooth- "The Promised Land" feat. vocals by Anthony Thomas (1987) What this track does to you is HOUSE MUSIC. Beautiful in every way. Can listen to this and have listened to this OVER AND OVER AGAIN.Instrumental mix by M.A.W. (date?) M.A.W.-River Ocean– "Love & Happiness" (Yemaya Y Ochún) feat. vocals by India (1994) Jim bought doubles of this also and he played the crap out of it! Like a great dessert that's good with EVERY meal. Tracks like this make mixing so much fun because each new combo is a rebirth in emotions.Inner City- "Big Fun" (1988) was when original by Kevin Saunderson was made, but this remix was made in (2003) by Juan Atkins First time I heard this was at Focus on Joseph St around Wellesley. Nope not the 'Focus' at City Hall, that was before my time. Play a few bars and people go MENTAL on the dancefloor! Infectious.dub mix remixed by Soul Clap Raze- "Break 4 Love" (2011) vocal mix remixed by Soul Clap Raze- "Break 4 Love" (2011) Original (1988) Raze- "Break 4 Love" feat. vocals by Keith Thompson I LOVE EVERY VERSION of the original also, the full vocal, the instrumental bringing out this timeless baseline and the spanish female vocal version. Jim bought these remixes and I just lost it. Can't believe Soul Clap got the original vocal by Keith Thompson. They keep the original sounds but brought it to the current times. Like the beginning of the dub and didn't like the beginning of the vocal, so I mixed them together. The original is the best but will have to save for another time.remixed by Michel Cleis 'Floreo'(2010) original M.A.W.-River Ocean– "Love & Happiness" (Yemaya Y Ochún) feat. vocals by India (1994) Jim had double records of this original MAW vocal! This remix revived this track for us!Murk (Oscar G & Ralf Falcon)- "Tried So Hard" feat. vocals by Bobby Pruit (1993) This track reminds me of one of the 1st time I met Vince Ailey, a great Toronto House DJ & producer but back then he was one of the BADDEST dancers! And not that hip-hop dancing to house music crap, real house dancing. We were at a PTS party on Duncan, south of Richmond. The ceilings were low and sweat was dripping off it. That was nasty, but the MUSIC was so addictive, no one left till after 5am!!Kerri Chandler & Johnny McDougald- "Something Wrong" (1992) Killer track! Chandler is a brick layer, this is a foundation dub. New house lovers are gonna say "WTF??!!" Jim and I often wonder when we hear a wicked track.. 'how did they come up with this track? the ideas? the sounds?' We should start producing so we can make someone else think that. Hopefully soon...Fingers Inc. (Larry Heard, Ron Wilson & Robert Owens) – "Music Take Me Up" feat. vocals by Robert Owens (1985) My first exposure to house in a serious way was Fingers tracks, think over a dozen like 'So Glad', 'What About This Love', 'Distant Planet', 'A Path', 'Mysteries of Love, 'Can You Feel It' and the list is endless. Tracks got attention those days. We burned the grooves off these records!!Mondo Grosso- "Souffles H" remixed by M.A.W. (1995) How many MAW tracks in this mix?? Little Louie Vega & Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez are so sick!! How many house tracks copied their swing? Standing on the shoulders of Giants! Let it grow!!remixed by Tricky Disco- "Tricky Disco" (1990) Love this sexy sax mix! Didn't like this track till it wasn't being played any longer.Jaydee- "Plastic Dreams" (1992) This is an anthem with killer keys!!original M.A.W. & Lem Springsteen- "Nite Life" feat. vocals by Kim English (1994) remixed by Armand Van Helden (1994) Love this vocal!! All our fav house djs in the past played this track. Can't stop dancing to this.Blaze- "So Special" (1990) This was one of my first records and has so many great memories attached to it.Eddie Lewis & Kerri Chandler- "I Need You" feat. vocals by Kamar (1993) Nothing like seeing a smokey dark room with over a hundred people with hands in the air and singing along! House Karaoke!!Cajmere- "Brighter Days" feat. vocals by Dajae (1992) remixed by Karizma & DJ Spen (2011) Karizma smashed it with this remix!! He kept all the original elements and turbo boosted the thump of this gorgeous vocal!Dodha & DJ Spen- "Inrowd" (2013) This is not a classic instrumental but reminded me of the old days with it's feel and sound. Actually reminded me of Mateo & Matos' track "Raw Elements", gotta get that vinyl on Discogs!original Jay Williams, Nelson Roman & Rob Hanning- "Sweat" feat. vocals by Jay Williams (1990) JoJoFlores-Rmx (1999?) 'Sweat' reminds me of this club in North York, just outside of Toronto, but now part of the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). "Inner City" was a wicked club and one of the first to play house. And the dancers there were incredible!! It was that time when everyone got tailored dress pants made and they all had slight to ridiculous bell bottoms. But it seemed so cool at the time watching these guys dance. Jay Williams' vocals on this are legendary and JoJo made this killer remix that made this vocal alive again!Martin Solveig- "Afro Deep" (1999) This is not a classic track but I played the crap out of this congo instrumental. The house feel can be expressed in limitless ways.original Show Me Love feat. vocals by Robin S (1993) remixed by Steve Angello & Laidback Luke (2008) Jim played this remix for the first time at a party a few years ago and EVERYONE went bananas at a certain part near the beginning. You'll definitely KNOW when you FEEL it.Nightmares On Wax- "Aftermath" (1990) This reminds me of a dance my friends DJ'ed at at Jarvis Collegiate near Wellesley. That was a party and we were all into HOUSE and danced like crazy. My friend, Noel Nanton (AN INCREDIBLE HOUSE DJ & PRODUCER), got me into house at 16 and took me to go see Kevin Williams at GO-GO's and some friends had great friends at Jarvis Collegiate and we bonded with tons of house music.Scotti Deep/ Fathoms N.Y. *moniker- "Braniak" (1995) Jim and I went BONKERS when we heard this for the 1st time at a warehouse party. Think it was at the 4th and 5th on Richmond St. It was such a raw and techy bouncy charger!original Romanthony- "Bring U Up" (1995) remixed by Deetron (2011) I don't know how many Romanthony records we own but he made some great ones. God Rest his Soul. This remix by DeeTron brought this track back to the current state of affairs. Love remixes of classics that preserve the feel but make it fresh with higher quality of sounds.Fingers Inc.- "Bring Down The Walls" feat. vocals by Robert Owens (1986) Bought this digital copy from iTunes. Got every Fingers vinyl! This got so played out it almost sounded commercial. But for those who haven't heard it for years or for the first time- WATCH OUT.John Rocco- "Move" (1987) I first heard this at Jim's house, this was when FreeStyle + House was the sound. We got into it probably by '95. Best memory of this track live was when Kenny Glasgow, now famous 1/2 of Art Department, dropped this right from the beginning at The Wellington, on Wellington, south of Spadina & King St. Toronto history. Killer thumpin' intro. I never mix this track cause I want to hear that beginning.---------------Reach out to us and comment. I Can’t Get No Sleep »

DJ TOMMY “T” (NYC) Rocking the decks at a young age, DJ TOMMY "T" (NYC) has captivated dance floors across the globe with his unique style of mixing. Born in Queens, and growing up on the outskirts of New York City, Tommy listened to an array of different musical genres from “Rock” to “New Wave” to “Hip-Hop” to “Freestyle” and to the underground sounds of “Club Music”. It was at the age of thirteen when Tommy was first introduced to the “Club Scene”, his older friends who were already clubbin’ had turned him on to the one sound that perhaps paved the way for him in ways he’d yet to realize. The DJ bug hadn't bitten into Tommy just yet, for a while he'd had his hand in other aspects of the music industry, working in Promotions and as Road Management/Artist Development with Def Jam, Warner Brothers, & Sony, as well as the likes of various artists such as, Bad Boy Bill, C&C Music Factory (Ft. Freedom Williams),Nadine Renée (Of: Planet Soul) & Billie Ray Martin to name a few. It wasn’t until after several years of clubbing and going to house parties with fellow DJ Friends, that Tommy started to realize his calling and figured he could do it better than some of the stuff he was listening to. From then on Tommy has been addicted. "It was all a fluke, I used to enjoy the music and never had aspirations of dee-jaying until I wanted to hear music a certain way and I said I could do it better than the next guy". DJ's such as David Morales, "BABY" Hec Romero, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez, & Little Louie Vega were all influences in the Tommy "T" sound you hear today. As time progressed Tommy became infatuated with the Chicago House scene. This was the extra added ingredient to his special style. "Going to Chicago is like being in school, the talent out there is first class and the experience and knowledge you gain from everyone is golden" Being a big fan of classics such as the Sal Soul Era, Tommy has been able to incorporate that musical knowledge into his sets. Always looking for the next level to climb Tommy joined long time friend Roger Sanchez on tour to over see things and help out. This was the golden opportunity for Tommy, as he likes to call it: "S.O.S." School Of Sanchez. Tommy enhanced his mixing skills and programming by learning from the best. "This was an opportunity that I was blessed with, I learned alot". The Tommy "T" sound is very across the board, it’s Chunky, sexy, tribal, & deep with an edge of Techno. Tommy keeps it across the board so that you want more. Tommy "T" has continued sharing his DJ skills to crowds from all over the world from various segments on AREA 33 SIRIUS RADIO to GROOVE RADIO to various other stations as well as DJ’ing in such great places as Colombia, South America, Canada and the U.S.A. Tommy is not just limited to spinning house, he’s also has held down various hip hop residencies in NYC, among other dance music type genres as well. Tommy "T" feels that it is important to educate the crowd and take the party to the next level. "I always vibe off the way the crowd reacts and then kick it up 100% giving them that extra edge of excitement. Currently Tommy "T" is touring and keeping busy in the studio working on making the people dance!! After 35 years of being in and out the game, SoulMedic's second birth into DJing was further encouraged by his business partner & nephew DJ WillRod. Hook & Bass Records / Hook & Bass Productions was started with the idea that SoulMedic would be the face of the Company & Record Label. Quick on his feet and with a savvy technical know-how, this creative remixer shows no fear behind the decks. From Old School Music of every genre to the most recent floor bangers, he can find a fit among them and through all genre of music. Although he's worked with a great diversity of DJs and producers in the past, he thrives on building and developing new relationships wherever he goes. He takes great pleasure in show casing the talents and skills of those he's built professional and personal relationships with through his radio shows, most recently Vibrations & Rhythms on Hook & Bass Internet Radio via the MixLR application. His past residencies have been on Cyberjamz Internet Radio & Ember Radio Live and has had many guest spots on other radio show most recently on Welcome 2R House Radio Show in collaboration with Radio Free Brooklyn (NYC). Excited by new ventures, SoulMedic always is keeping up with the constant changes of the industry. Even with that, his passions are not limited to one thing. Besides pursuing things that make him happy, he enjoys spending time with his extensive family, all of who share his first love, Music! Growing up in NYC's Hells Kitchen, his first official foray into DJing was in 1984 as a High School Senior. After using a neighbor's equipment to learn on, he purchased his first set of turntables, Technics 1200s. & and a Bozak Mixer. He went from using a simple slide mixer to a rotary mixer and is basically a self-taught DJ. He hit the mobile DJ scene hard, moving others the way music always moved his soul and eventually landed his first gig in the clubs in one of the NY Hotspots. Seeing what the NY nightlife had to offer he became passioned with it's scene. Throughout his years he has played not only in NY but has also in Los Angeles, Boston, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and internationally in Mexico, Ecuador, Spain to name a few. Has shared the Decks with many local and foreign DJ's. The DJs that influenced him were Larry Levan, John ‘Jellybean' Benitez, Timmy Regisford, Danny Tenaglia, Little Louie Vega, David Morales and so many more. “As soon as I got the chance I hit the club scene watching these DJs do their thing” he fondly recalls. Like many born and bred New Yorkers, skyrocketing prices pushed him to settle elsewhere. Currently residing in New Jersey, he maintains a close relationship to his roots in Hell's Kitchen through family and music. With a deep commitment to Community, SoulMedic along with his partner DJ WillRod and the rest of the Hook & Bass Productions crew continue to volunteer their time and services for events that involve children, diabetes or cancer. He champions these causes from personal life experiences that involve those closest to him. His focus is on supporting local charities that give aid to the immediate community or person. This personal undertaking allows for him to see where the assistance goes and in turn keeps him involved in the community he loves. As a self-professed extrovert his passions keep him active in the nightlife, feeding off of and sharing energies with others in the right industry settings. His passionate focused demeanor carries over from the dance floor to behind the decks to working on projects that impact those he comes in contact with. The many influences that have contributed to his strong sense of community and commitment to excellence include his father, the first two DJs he encountered in his life, Church and learning how to play the trumpet. ANDREW EMIL (aka Change Request / Midnight Riot, Viva Recordings, Apollow Music Group / Chicago) A preeminent artist of Chicago’s 3rd wave, Andrew Emil has been a respected fixture and familiar face in it's vibrant and diverse music scene for over two decades. A concert-trained percussionist since age 11, Emil earned a chair in his native Kansas City Symphony but eventually moved to Chicago in the late nineties. As a traditional musician, he has worked as a keyboardist, arranger, and an orchestrator on hundreds of recording sessions and productions. Cutting his teeth at the former Chicago Trax Recording Studios, after a life in live music performance in orchestras to punk rock ensembles, he crafted a reputation for House Music productions in Chicago under his own name, as well as Broadway & Wilson, and Uptown Tones. Emil's composition and studio productions range from concert works, sound design, and film scores to hundreds of releases of electronic music productions spanning over seventy international music labels. 2012 saw the emergence of his epithet, Change Request, with the Change Theory EP on four play music. This new persona allowed the freedom to explore hybrids of mid-tempo live instrument focused jazz-dance-fusion. Following this first Change Request release was “After All” on Los Angeles-based Seasons Recordings, with another single directly thereafter featuring House Music icon, Chez Damier, “I Wanna Go Back”, including a remarkable rework from Glenn Underground, on Glenview Records. Remixing artists along the way from Common, Kanye West, Little Louie Vega, Jamie Principle, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Iz & Diz, Fast Eddie, Shalamar, Roland Clark, David Morales, Colette, Amp Fiddler, JT Donaldson, and Gene Farris—to name a few—Emil created AstraVox Music with the award-winning Los Angeles-based composer, Mr. Nathaniel, as a home for his increasing catalog of ambient and incidental dramatic musical compositions. 2019 has seen Andrew become even more relentless with long-form and conceptual musical output, including the release of his first Change Request full-length LP, "RiteOnRed" in Dufflebag Recordings, the second full-length LP—forthcoming—"Theoretical Certainty" on Minneapolis imprint Abstrakt Xpressions, as well as a compilation album—The Andrew Emil S&S Sessions—celebrating Emils’ decade-long relationship with the GRAMMY® nominated producer Steve “Silk” Hurley and his S&S Records brand. This mix from Andrew Emil / Change Request has a decided preponderance on his own production—recent works. Showcasing his wide musical dialect, sonic palette, and groove leanings, this set illustrates Emil’s aptitude for creating original music productions, useful edits, masterful rewrites/covers—or what he refers to as “Change Request ReVisions”—and he even bookends this with two ambient abstract pieces of musical noir. dattrax: 'Electric City' is a tribute to the city we love and where we fell in love with house music, Toronto. A tribute to it's community of house music DJs, producers, promoters, club owners, everyone involved and the all the party people/ the dancers (included those of us who can't dance but love to ;) This is a tribute to the house we got into, grew into, grew up in and fell in love with each time we heard these tracks. A huge hi-five, hug and thank you to all the singers, producers and DJs that made and played these tracks!! 'Classic House' is a shifting definition... just depends on when you got into house and when those first 5-6 formative years were for you. I'm sorry but on "Emotions Electric" was a CD version I bought at Sam The Record Man (sadly not in biz anymore)... back to my apology, I cranked the bass too much so... Over 5yrs ago, I wasted almost two months in the cracks of time between work and family recording a crate and a half (150 records) into my computer. Realised afterwards that because I had a crappy sound card the digitized tracks were flat sounding). After that Jim and I just started buying classics on beatport, traxsource, itunes and defected and probably 90% of the time the sound quality was excellent. Got a few classic tracks from friends like Eric Ling, Gene King, Devon Wills and Tyrone Solomon. Then Roberto Pinto told me about Discogs and all my classic house vinyl dreams are gonna coming true. We keep saying but bears repeating: "This is the best time for house music. Period!" As always, we hope you enjoy this mix and that it gives you that house feeling from head to toe. (If you were so inclined, then please donate any amount you'd like to with the paypal button to the right side of this site. We've had two donations in the last four years of operating this site, but hoping to set a record this year & you can be a part of that;) Listed are the 42 tracks in order and a few sentences about each: (Really want to give you a little history of our early journey) cover by FCL- "It's You" (2012) Original (1986) "It's You" by E.S.P. Love this acapella cover!! Thought this would be a great start to this mix. Don't have a good quality version of the original. A Guy Called Gerald- "Emotions Electric" (1988) DJ AKI from the warehouse days made me love this track, it's so beautiful. Bought it on CD many years ago and always wanted to put it on a mix. Murk (Oscar G & Ralf Falcon)/ Coral Way Chiefs *moniker- "Release Myself" (1992) First heard this at a warehouse party on Spadina Ave, south of Dundas St in Toronto's main downtown Chinatown. It was at a "PTS" party!! Peter, Tyrone & Shams dominated warehouse parties for a few summers. Tightest house djs. Shams actually played this track off of reel to reel!!!!!!!!!! Mixing from reel to reel to vinyl turntables- BADASS!! Bobby Konders- "The Poem" (1990) Jim & I first head this at 'RPM All Ages Sundays' DJ'ed by Matt C. Jim flipped out and bought his first house records the next day. Think we met weeks later both stomping like maniacs at the speaker bins. We were 16 and were like: "WHAT THE HECK IS THIS STUFF!! THIS MUSIC IS WICKED!!!" Satoshi Tomiie- "And I Loved You" feat. vocals by Arnold Jarvis (1990) This was a record from my very 1st record purchases. It was summer time and I walked into a record store on Yonge St., downtown called "Carnival" and met Tyrone Solomon (of PTS fame!). Nicest guy and bought Shades of Black's "SHADOWS" EP on some label called 'Intrigue', I think. Can't imagine how many times I've heard this beautiful record and at countless parties. cover by Phonique- "Feel What You Want" feat. vocals by Rebecca (2012) Original (1994) by Rob Dougan & Rollo Armstrong & Kristine W (also featuring her vocals) Jim bought doubles of the original Kristine W. Love this cover done by Phonique and Rebecca, they keep the original feel but brought a freshness to this timeless vocal track. M.A.W.- "I Can't Get No Sleep" remixed by David Morales (1995) First time I heard this was at a warehouse party near Wellesley St., around 6am, after working nightshift at 7West Cafe. Vince Ailey's friend was DJing. Can't remember his name but was a towering spanish guy, great guy. The way he expertly slowly drifted these two minutes of drum intro into the last song. I was dancing non-stop and when that India vocal came in- WOW!! Tommy Musto- "Take Some Time Out" feat. vocals by Arnold Jarvis (1987) This vocal still gives me goosebumps!! Was a fav at many warehouse jams! remixed by Bush II Bush- "You're Gonna Miss Me" (2007) Original by Turntable Orchestra – "You're Gonna Miss Me" (1988) Love the original the best but don't have a clean, good quality digital copy and my vinyl's all scratched up. This is a really good remix bringing modern day tight, bright sounds to this classic vocal. Bang The Party- "Bang-Bang You're Mine" (1990) First time I heard this was at my pal, Moses' house, we were wrecked and he was mixing this and Fingers Inc tracks. We were all 16yrs old and couldn't believe this house music stuff!! cover by Xakosa- "Miss Me" feat. vocals by Kenny Thomas (2013) Original by Turntable Orchestra – "You're Gonna Miss Me" (1988) This is such a good cover with a jackin' beat, had to include also even though played another version already. Back in the day, DJs like AKI and PTS would tease you by playing parts of a track, 5-6 times during the night- just a sliver, a few beats each time, just enough of a hook. That's how they broke tracks! By the 5th time, everyone was so excited that the whole room was bouncing with hands in the air! Bobby D'Ambrosio– "Moment Of My Life" feat. vocals by Michelle Weeks (1997) This is one of the most uplifting vocal house tracks out there! Michelle Weeks baby!! Man, there are probably 250 classic house tracks I'd love to put in mixes if I only had clean digital versions. One can dream. M.A.W.- "I Get Lifted" feat. vocals by Barbara Tucker remixed by John Ciafone (1994) Don't know a house dj worth his salt that doesn't have two dozen Masters At Work vinyl records. Priceless track. Feelin' this? Masters At Work or M.A.W.(Little Louie Vega & Kenny Dope Gonzalez)- "I Can't Get No Sleep" feat. vocals by India (1993) Had to include the original. Jason told that story and I felt it on the dance floor but wasn't privy to the DJ booth ; ) I got in with my cousin's 21yr old ID, I guess since every Chinese guy at that time looked the same ; ) Great for me! Thompson & Lenoir (LNR)- "Can't Stop The House" (1987) LNR, same guys that made the warehouse classic "Work It To The Bone"!! Then we saw Liberty City perform it live at The OZ on Mercer St. Jestofunk-"Stellar Funk" remixed by Lazzaro (1997) This congo instrumental I played the crap out of back in the vinyl days, mixed it with dozens of different vocals. My personal policy is NEVER REPEAT a combo and it's brought joy to every situation. Great track!! Joe Smooth- "The Promised Land" feat. vocals by Anthony Thomas (1987) What this track does to you is HOUSE MUSIC. Beautiful in every way. Can listen to this and have listened to this OVER AND OVER AGAIN. Instrumental mix by M.A.W. (date?) M.A.W.-River Ocean– "Love & Happiness" (Yemaya Y Ochún) feat. vocals by India (1994) Jim bought doubles of this also and he played the crap out of it! Like a great dessert that's good with EVERY meal. Tracks like this make mixing so much fun because each new combo is a rebirth in emotions. Inner City- "Big Fun" (1988) was when original by Kevin Saunderson was made, but this remix was made in (2003) by Juan Atkins First time I heard this was at Focus on Joseph St around Wellesley. Nope not the 'Focus' at City Hall, that was before my time. Play a few bars and people go MENTAL on the dancefloor! Infectious. dub mix remixed by Soul Clap Raze- "Break 4 Love" (2011) vocal mix remixed by Soul Clap Raze- "Break 4 Love" (2011) Original (1988) Raze- "Break 4 Love" feat. vocals by Keith Thompson I LOVE EVERY VERSION of the original also, the full vocal, the instrumental bringing out this timeless baseline and the spanish female vocal version. Jim bought these remixes and I just lost it. Can't believe Soul Clap got the original vocal by Keith Thompson. They keep the original sounds but brought it to the current times. Like the beginning of the dub and didn't like the beginning of the vocal, so I mixed them together. The original is the best but will have to save for another time. remixed by Michel Cleis 'Floreo'(2010) original M.A.W.-River Ocean– "Love & Happiness" (Yemaya Y Ochún) feat. vocals by India (1994) Jim had double records of this original MAW vocal! This remix revived this track for us! Murk (Oscar G & Ralf Falcon)- "Tried So Hard" feat. vocals by Bobby Pruit (1993) This track reminds me of one of the 1st time I met Vince Ailey, a great Toronto House DJ & producer but back then he was one of the BADDEST dancers! And not that hip-hop dancing to house music crap, real house dancing. We were at a PTS party on Duncan, south of Richmond. The ceilings were low and sweat was dripping off it. That was nasty, but the MUSIC was so addictive, no one left till after 5am!! Kerri Chandler & Johnny McDougald- "Something Wrong" (1992) Killer track! Chandler is a brick layer, this is a foundation dub. New house lovers are gonna say "WTF??!!" Jim and I often wonder when we hear a wicked track.. 'how did they come up with this track? the ideas? the sounds?' We should start producing so we can make someone else think that. Hopefully soon... Fingers Inc. We burned the grooves off these records!! Mondo Grosso- "Souffles H" remixed by M.A.W. (1995) How many MAW tracks in this mix?? Little Louie Vega & Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez are so sick!! How many house tracks copied their swing? Standing on the shoulders of Giants! Let it grow!! remixed by Tricky Disco- "Tricky Disco" (1990) Love this sexy sax mix! Didn't like this track till it wasn't being played any longer. Jaydee- "Plastic Dreams" (1992) This is an anthem with killer keys!! original M.A.W. & Lem Springsteen- "Nite Life" feat. vocals by Kim English (1994) remixed by Armand Van Helden (1994) Love this vocal!! All our fav house djs in the past played this track. Can't stop dancing to this. Blaze- "So Special" (1990) This was one of my first records and has so many great memories attached to it. Eddie Lewis & Kerri Chandler- "I Need You" feat. vocals by Kamar (1993) Nothing like seeing a smokey dark room with over a hundred people with hands in the air and singing along! House Karaoke!! Cajmere- "Brighter Days" feat. vocals by Dajae (1992) remixed by Karizma & DJ Spen (2011) Karizma smashed it with this remix!! He kept all the original elements and turbo boosted the thump of this gorgeous vocal! Dodha & DJ Spen- "Inrowd" (2013) This is not a classic instrumental but reminded me of the old days with it's feel and sound. Actually reminded me of Mateo & Matos' track "Raw Elements", gotta get that vinyl on Discogs! original Jay Williams, Nelson Roman & Rob Hanning- "Sweat" feat. vocals by Jay Williams (1990) JoJoFlores-Rmx (1999?) 'Sweat' reminds me of this club in North York, just outside of Toronto, but now part of the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). "Inner City" was a wicked club and one of the first to play house. And the dancers there were incredible!! It was that time when everyone got tailored dress pants made and they all had slight to ridiculous bell bottoms. But it seemed so cool at the time watching these guys dance. Jay Williams' vocals on this are legendary and JoJo made this killer remix that made this vocal alive again! Martin Solveig- "Afro Deep" (1999) This is not a classic track but I played the crap out of this congo instrumental. The house feel can be expressed in limitless ways. original Show Me Love feat. vocals by Robin S (1993) remixed by Steve Angello & Laidback Luke (2008) Jim played this remix for the first time at a party a few years ago and EVERYONE went bananas at a certain part near the beginning. You'll definitely KNOW when you FEEL it. Nightmares On Wax- "Aftermath" (1990) This reminds me of a dance my friends DJ'ed at at Jarvis Collegiate near Wellesley. That was a party and we were all into HOUSE and danced like crazy. My friend, Noel Nanton (AN INCREDIBLE HOUSE DJ & PRODUCER), got me into house at 16 and took me to go see Kevin Williams at GO-GO's and some friends had great friends at Jarvis Collegiate and we bonded with tons of house music. Scotti Deep/ Fathoms N.Y. *moniker- "Braniak" (1995) Jim and I went BONKERS when we heard this for the 1st time at a warehouse party. Think it was at the 4th and 5th on Richmond St. It was such a raw and techy bouncy charger! original Romanthony- "Bring U Up" (1995) remixed by Deetron (2011) I don't know how many Romanthony records we own but he made some great ones. God Rest his Soul. This remix by DeeTron brought this track back to the current state of affairs. Love remixes of classics that preserve the feel but make it fresh with higher quality of sounds. Fingers Inc.- "Bring Down The Walls" feat. vocals by Robert Owens (1986) Bought this digital copy from iTunes. Got every Fingers vinyl! This got so played out it almost sounded commercial. But for those who haven't heard it for years or for the first time- WATCH OUT. John Rocco- "Move" (1987) I first heard this at Jim's house, this was when FreeStyle + House was the sound. We got into it probably by '95. Best memory of this track live was when Kenny Glasgow, now famous 1/2 of Art Department, dropped this right from the beginning at The Wellington, on Wellington, south of Spadina & King St. Toronto history. Killer thumpin' intro. I never mix this track cause I want to hear that beginning. Most of the tracks in this mix bought from www.Beatport.com and www.Traxsource.com and www.Defected.com and iTunes, http://www.apple.com/itunes/ BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then there's a PayPal DONATE button on the top right side of this website... any amount would be appreciated ; ) For Toronto or Global bookings: dattrax@gmail.com This house mix made on Traktor S4 Controller & laptop with no sync applied, but mix was made multiple times with multiple failures. Hope you are forgiving and have fun listening.
THIS IS A PROMO SITE WHERE WE WILL BE SHOWCASING A SMALL NUMBER OF HOUSE MIXES. PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR MAIN HOUSE MUSIC MIXES SITE & SUBSCRIBE TO US THERE: http://dattrax.podomatic.com THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. dattrax: 'Electric City' is a tribute to the city we love and where we fell in love with house music, Toronto. I'm sorry but on "Emotions Electric" was a CD version I bought at Sam The Record Man (sadly not in biz anymore)... back to my apology, I cranked the bass too much so... Decided on a mock interview format to share our thoughts on some House DJ related topics we've seen online lately, PART1... We hope that you enjoy this mix also. Cheers, dattrax WHAT IS WITH ALL THIS HOOPLA ONLINE ABOUT DJS WHO USE SYNC BUTTONS TO MATCH BEATS? Sync or no-sync, at the end of the day it's about rocking crowds, making great memories and experiences, so it doesn't matter. If you have fans, then someone likes what you do, then that's what we're all after isn't it? Having said this, there are a few things we'd like to share: Some big DJs like DeadMau5, David Guetta and Steve Angelo, etc. who use premixed mixes for live shows are like modern day rock stars with legions of fans paying lots of money to listen to their pre-programmed sets, so it seems that this is what their fans want, their form of 'live' entertainment. Doesn't seem that their fans care if it's really live or not. Nothing wrong with that. Loud music blasting in your ears while you dance your stress & worries away is what it's always been about. Don't really have a beef with pre-programed sets or synced mixing, but our beef is with pretending to DJ and then denying that they are syncing, etc (recent example is the online scuffle between DJ Sneak and Steve Angelo about 'fake djing'- remember the Milli Vanilli lip syncing scandal in '80s? Same deal). Angelo apparently denies this, even after images and youtube vids of him at live events circulate all over Facebook that prove otherwise. Angelo has a massive following that love his tunes, so what's the big deal Stevie? Just say you do and so what if you do, but don't say that you play live when you clearly don't. Syncing is important for DJs like Richie Hawtin. This mix was on cassette tape (google it!) made in 1996 by Aki with two twelves and a old school mixer: http://torontohousedjs.podomatic.com/entry/2011-03-03T10_38_24-08_00 We forked out good money each week to go crazy to amazing talents like Jason Palma, PTS (Peter, Tyrone & Shams), Dave Campbell, Kevin Williams and Dino & Terry- these guys made you danced till the sun rose. We saw out of town talents like Roger Sanchez, Derrick Carter, Doc Martin, Cevin Fisher, DJ Sneak and Little Louie Vega blow our minds with 2 or 3 vinyl turntables- all these guys made us grow more in love with house music each time we partied to their brand of house! The art and wonder of it all. Learning what we liked or didn't like about the mixing or music programming. Always learning and having fun along the way. We also take issue with some DJs saying that beat matching is so easy and take no time to learn to justify their syncing. We just have one question: "If it's so easy, then why are you using the sync??!!" If you want to sync, then do it, it's your art form and the way you want to express yourself. Just don't pretend that you do it because it's not worth your creative focus & energies, or that you don't when you in fact do. Life is simple but some people choose to make it difficult. Please comment on each mix or email us- love to hear from you. In this mix, featuring tracks by these INCREDIBLE HOUSE PRODUCERS & VOCALISTS!!! dattrax: WOW!!! Two months since the last mix was uploaded. Please check out our Toronto, Ontario, Canada Facebook group called "TORONTO HOUSE DJ MIXES"- the name pretty much says it all. Basically, only HOUSE MIXES made by TORONTO DJs are posted in this group. No spam, no filler- Strictly HOUSE!! (here's the link- you don't have to join to listen, share or download so pls help spread the word: http://www.budurl.com/TORONTOHOUSEDJMIXES ). Right now the group is just over a year old and has 136 Toronto House DJs and over 630 house mixes. With that much choice no one can ever complain that they can't find what they love! We want to build the largest online collection of Toronto house mixes. The idea came to me last Jan-2011 when I was reminiscing about when I first got into house music and it was difficult to get even ONE mix cassette tape from a good house DJ. And when you got one, well... you played it so much it would almost come apart. Now with the internet- there's too much choice and it's so easy to share one's vision of house music with others. So I wanted to enjoy, learn and be inspired by my fellow Brothers and Sisters in HOUSE in our beloved city of Toronto. IT'S NEVER BEEN THIS GOOD FOR HOUSE MUSIC!! Toronto is a city brimming with underground house music fiends for over 20yrs because of so many great DJs paving the way and making people fall in love with this music, DJs that have influenced my DJ partner and best friend, Jim and I through many many great memories and tons of record hunting... back to influences: Kevin Williams, Mark & Aki, Peter, Tyrone & Shams (PTS), Dave Campbell, Jason Palma, Dino & Terry, Noel Nanton, Nick Holder, Patrick "D-Nice", Eric Ling and many more. More recently Jason B., Gene King & Jason Hodges. Some of our Outside-of-Toronto house dj or producer influences have been (that first come to mind): Little Louie Vega and Kenny "Dope" Gonzalez (MAW), Derrick Carter, Wally Calleiro, Phonique, Luke Solomon and Justin Harris (MFF), Roger Sanchez, John Tejada, Alland Byallo, Stas Shiprinksi, Lee Kalts, Soul Clap, Greenskeepers, Said Chaara, Matthew Dear, Chuck Love, Chuck Daniel, DJ Sneak, Cevin Fisher, Rob Mello, Dub Taylor, Steve Lawler, Danny Tenaglia, Doc Martin, Frankie Knuckles, Fingers Inc., etc., etc., etc. and then some... With every track bought, every mix made, and every gig played we pay tribute to all the house producers and house DJs that have impacted us over the years and to all the house promoters that gave us all those magical nights and even the not so great nights to learn what we didn't like. We are very grateful of all these experiences and all the wonderful people we've met over the years. Afterall, are we not the sum total of all we've every experienced and the result of every day to day decision? Featuring 31 tracks in this 75min house mix by: Kaje Trackheadz (TORONTO!!), Soul Clap, Tiago Fragateiro, Morgan Geist, Maceo Plex, Kim Ann Foxman, Andy Butler, Martin Solveig, Cassius, Romanthony, Deetron, Daniel Bortz, Oliver Koletzki, Solomun, Maxxa, Gretchen Rhodes, Danilo Vigorito, Christian Malloni, Astrid Suryanto, Stelios Vassiloudis, Chris Lattner, Enzo Siragusa, Alex Augello, Kelly Sylvia, etc., etc. All tracks in this mix bought from www.Beatport.com and www.Traxsource.com If there is any track you particularly like and want to go buy for yourself, then let us know and we'll email the name to you and let you know which site we bought it from. dattrax: Went into an HMV at Bloor & Yonge in Downtown Toronto a while ago for some mixed house cd listening. I needed a house music fix badly. Stayed for hours listening to at least 40 "electronica" cds. They hated me there because the staff have to reseal the ones that you don’t buy. CDs are expensive, you have to love what you spend your hard earned dollars on. Bought these five for about $130 w/ taxes: "In The House: Little Louie Vega" mixed by Little Louie Vega. I lent this double mixed cd to a good friend (another DJ) a few weeks after buying it, and haven’t seen it since. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! I hope you feel guilty. It’s fine, we’ll still be friends, just give it back please… "Asa Breed" by Matthew Dear. Great techy tracks. "Release Yourself" mixed by Roger Sanchez. The “S” Man, NUFF SAID! "Bring Enough To Spill Some” mixed by Chuck Love. WOW! This guy’s music is CRAZY! “F*** Me I’m Famous!” mixed David Guetta Not bad, like some tracks. Listened to these for about a week, then marked all the tracks that I loved, the levels, when the vocals started, and made these two mixes. Took a few takes. I never put this much preparation into a mix, because usually just like to have fun and if it sucks, then toss it. Usually one out of 10, I keep. Hey... baseball players are making millions at 3 out of 10. One out of 10 isn't too bad, I guess. Also, because the tracks were from these authorized mixed cds that have been mastered professionally w/ top dollar, these two mixes by default sound amazing. Continued… dattrax: Little Louie Vega is incredible if you’ve seen him live. This guy mixes like the songs were produced together, not like separate tracks. He DJs like a musician- can’t even describe it, you have to experience him. I always wonder what it’s like to know how house music tracks are made from conception to post production, and then spin them? Jim and I just know what house tracks we love, but we know nothing about music, composition, etc. We just like what we like and hope that some people like it too. I’d hate if a musician listened to us. This is one of my favourite of Mr. Vegas’ authorized mixes. Full of energy and beautiful house music. Relentless, track after track. I can’t tell you how many records the duo of Little Louie Vega and his partner Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, Masters At Work (M.A.W.) that Jim and I own and own doubles of. There was a time when we were partying, that almost everything good was made by these guys. I bet there are more MAW records in house DJs' collections than any other producers. Roger Sanchez. That name just gets a period. Definitive. I’ve been to probably four parties in Toronto where he was headlining- never a disappointment. I kicked myself the last few times he was in Toronto and I missed him. Smooth as butter and his passion shows through his performance. He loves it! Three decks- seamless- TIGHT (there’s a picture of him in the DJ Dictionary if there is one). No computer w/ beatlock – a DJ’s DJ. I'm so happy that when I catch him on YouTube and stuff he's playing w/ cds. Nothing like old & new tech together. He’s always having a blast w/ the crowd. Not the stone face DJ, seen one of those lately? Don’t love what you do? Go do something else Man! The greats always make it look easy and fun. Then the masses go out and spend tons of money and realize that ‘hey, this is hard’. The title of these two mixes comes from the chorus of an Everything But The Girl cover by Nicola on this mixed cd, “Missing”. I just loved that line, “Like the desert missed the rain”. I almost spelled it ‘dessert’ by accident at first. Chuck Love’s mixed cd was such an exciting gem of a purchase! His tracks have a older, familiar feel, but such a bumpy energy that charges forward. Very organic sounds and instruments, but has such a fresh edge to them. Joy. He is new to us, but will be looking for him. Can’t tell you how much I love his music. Loved the track “Shy” from the Matthew Dear CD. We have a few of his tracks on vinyl. Techy, w/ awesome alternative rock sounding vocals. We hope that you enjoy these two mixes as much as we love sharing them! BTW... if you enjoy this mix, then why don't you buy us a beer? dattrax: We would like to start this mix with a tribute to a great artist, Michael Jackson. It was worth it. Jim: Michael has influenced artists in the areas of music production, music videos and dancing choreography among other things. You will get the same feeling (that we get) when you hear this first song. Then it's a parade of house songs. Warning: DO NOT PLAY THIS IN THE BACKGROUND WHILE WORKING, because you will not get anything done. THIS MIX will not be restrained in the background! ENJOY!
