President Trump hosts Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. They will seek to rekindle their personal, very special relationship, overcome bilateral disputes about trade, tariffs, and immigration, and forge a strategic bulwark against the two countries' mutual enemy: the Chinese Communist Party. Topical as all those agenda items are, one may be of surpassing importance: the systematic persecution of Christians and others by the Prime Minister's Hindu nationalist base and its party, the BJP. Mr. Trump has rightly made a personal priority of protecting Christians and promoting religious tolerance. Seven years ago, he challenged then-Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari over his government's failure to stop the genocidal murder of Christians. It made a difference, at least for a time. A real Indo-American strategic partnership must be founded on an enduring respect for non-Hindu minorities and lower-caste Indians. Let it begin today. This is Frank Gaffney.

It's Friday, May 12th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Adam McManus Nigerian Leah Sharibu spends 6 years in captivity This Sunday, May 14, Leah Sharibu will spend her 20th birthday the same way she spent the last six: in captivity. Leah was just 14 when she was kidnapped by Boko Haram, the Muslim terrorist group, along with 110 schoolgirls from the Government Girls' Science and Technical College in northeast Nigeria. After a month of negotiations between the Nigerian government and the terrorist group, 104 of the 105 girls left alive were released from captivity and returned home to their families. To this day, Leah is the only girl imprisoned, reports International Christian Concern. Why? For refusing to renounce her Christian faith, according to multiple former Boko Haram prisoners who had contact with her. Leah's case has been the subject of worldwide outrage and helps illustrate the way Islamist terrorism affects Christian communities in Nigeria. The Nigerian government, though outwardly sympathetic to Leah's situation, has seemed to do little to rescue her. Leah, a strong Christian, allegedly has been married off to one of her Muslim abductors and is rumored to have two children. It is hard to know her current state because she is not allowed to see her family. Please continue to pray for Leah Sharibu and her family. Pray that the Lord will grant wisdom to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. And pray that Leah will be released. Watch a special live stream about Leah this Sunday, May 14th at 2:00pm Eastern time through a special link in our transcript today at www.TheWorldview.com. GOP Congressman George Santos indicted on 13 counts Republican Congressman George Santos of New York, infamous for fabricating his life story, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges he duped donors, stole from his campaign, and lied to Congress about being a millionaire, all while cheating to collect unemployment benefits he didn't deserve, reports The Associated Press. REPORTER: “Why would you apply for unemployment benefits when you had a job making $120,000 a year?” SANTOS: “This is inaccurate information and I will get to clear my name.” Despite the 13-count federal indictment, 34-year-old Santos will not drop his re-election bid nor will he resign. He surrendered his passport and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Among the allegations, prosecutors say Santos created a company and then induced supporters to donate to it under the false pretense that the money would be used to support his campaign. Instead, they say he used the money for personal expenses, including designer clothes and credit card and car payments. Sir Walter Scott said, “Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”  And Exodus 20:16 says, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." NBC Host: Who will “police” Tucker Carlson's show on Twitter? On the heels of former Fox News host Tucker Carlson announcing Tuesday that he's planning a new program to air on Twitter, "NBC News NOW" guest host Tom Costello brought in former CNN host Brian Stelter for a chat about it all, reports NewsBusters. Costello asked a jaw-dropping question. COSTELLO:  “Will anybody be able to police what Carlson says? Or is this the point? It's just a free-for-all?” STETLER: “I think this is the point. It is a free-for-all. It's what Elon Musk wants to provide. This move by Tucker may cement the idea of Twitter as a right-wing website." NFL star urges graduates to get married and have kids And finally, two-time Super Bowl winning kicker Harrison Butker, age 27,  dropped what he called “some hard truths” on graduates of Georgia Tech University last weekend for which he has been praised by conservatives and Christians alike on social media, reports LifeSiteNews. BUTKER: “Studies have shown one of the many negative effects of the pandemic is that a lot of young adults feel a sense of loneliness, anxiety and depression. Despite technology that has connected us more than ever before. It would seem the more connected people are to one another, the more they feel alone. I'm not sure the root of this, but at least I can offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come: Get married and start a family! “Having kicked the game-winning field goal in both the AFC Championship and the Super Bowl, I have received a great deal of praise for these successes. And yet all of this happiness is temporary. And the truth is, none of these accomplishments mean anything compared to the happiness I have found in my marriage, and in starting a family. “My confidence as a husband and father, and yes, even as a football player is rooted in my marriage with my wife, as we leave our mark on future generations by the children we bring into the world. How much greater of a legacy can anyone leave than that?” Butker, the father to two young children, added that the wedding band he wears is the “most important ring” he owns, even more than his Super Bowl rings he earned as a teammate of the Kansas City Chiefs. BUTKER: “While I'm still striving to be a better, more virtuous man, I'm confident that with God, and with my wife by my side, I can do more than I could ever have imagined alone.” Psalm 128:3 says, “Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table." Butker's remarks are particularly timely given current demographic trends. According to The Federalist, “fewer than half of U.S. households are comprised of married couples. And the majority of those are households without children. In 2018, more than a third of Americans between the ages of 25 and 50 had never been married, and a quarter of young people may never marry in their lives.” Butler's impassioned defense of traditional Christian values comes at a time when commencement speakers are all too often chosen by colleges to show their support for the woke agenda. Butker, who is one of a handful of high-profile NFL players to openly refuse the COVID-19 shot, blasted today's cancel culture which aims to censor conservative voices. It's Tuesday, December 27th, A.D. 2022. This The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Indonesian Grinch tried to steal Christmas The Grinch showed up on Java Island in Indonesia over the weekend. Christmas celebrations were effectively banned in the Maja district, by one high-level official, the head of Lebak Regency, Iti Octavia Jayabaya, reports Morning Star News.   She told Christians they would have to hold their celebrations in another district, some 12 miles away. The area is made up of 1% Christians, and the rest are predominately Muslim.  According to Open Doors, Indonesia is the 28th worst country in the world for the persecution of Christians. Nigerian Muslims killed 46 Christians Muslim extremists killed another 46 Christians on raids on Christian churches in four Nigerian villages a week before Christmas. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has steadfastly supported the Nigerian government through some of the worst persecutions in Africa's history. Plus, the U.S. has excluded Nigeria from its religious freedom violations list of “countries of particular concern” for two years now. The Catholic News Agency noted that President Biden welcomed Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari to the White House two weeks ago, despite the ongoing bloodshed, forced abortions reportedly implemented by the Nigerian military, and other atrocities tolerated by the government.  Yakubu Kundi, a Nigerian bishop, has denounced “a deliberate plan to unleash evil” on Christian villagers. Proverbs 24:24-25 speaks to this. “He who says to the wicked, ‘You are righteous,' him the people will curse; Nations will abhor him. But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, and a good blessing will come upon them.” Biden omitted the name of Jesus in Christmas message It's somewhat unusual for American presidents, but President Biden did not mention the name Jesus in his Christmas message to the nation this year. He spoke of the Muslims, Hindus, and other religions, and noted that Christians believe the child in the manger was the son of God. Listen. BIDEN: “How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given. There's a certain stillness at the center of the Christmas story. Silent night. When all the world goes quiet. And all the glamour, all the noise, everything that divides us, everything that pits us against one another. “Everything that seems so important really isn't. It all fades away in the stillness, in the winter's evening. And we look to the sky, to a lone star, shining bright then all the rest, guiding us to the birth of a child, a child Christians believe to be the Son of God.” By contrast, in President Donald Trump's 2020 Christmas address, he noted that Christmas was a time to “celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ.” TRUMP: “More than 2000 years ago, the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary he said, ‘Do not be afraid you have found favor with God.' The angel told her that ‘you would give birth to a baby boy, Jesus, who would be called the Son of the Most High.'  Nine months later, Christ was born in the town of Bethlehem. The Son of God came into the world in a humble stable. “As Christians everywhere know, the birth of our Lord and Savior changed history forever. At Christmas, we give thanks to God, and that God sent His only Son to die for us and to offer everlasting peace to all humanity.” And, in President Obama's 2015 Christmas address, he told everybody, that “our family celebrates the birth of Jesus and the values He lived in His own life.”  Snowstorms killed 55 people nationally The Christmas storm of 2022 will go down into history as one of the most severe snowstorms ever.   At least 57 people are reported dead nationwide, reports NBC News. New York was hit the hardest, where 25 persons, who were made in the image of God, have lost their lives.  New York State police were involved in at least 500 rescues — a state that received up to 43 inches of snow. Most of the victims were found in or around stranded cars. Residents in Buffalo, New York may still remember the great blizzard of 1977, which resulted in 29 reported deaths.  Olympic Committee committed to men competing against women The International Olympic Committee has issued a new set of transgender guidelines, which still allows for participation of men, who are pretending to be women, in women's sports competitions. While encouraging the typical modern moralisms of  “inclusion,” the “prevention of harm,” “non-discrimination,” “fairness,” “no presumption of advantage,” and the “primacy of health and bodily autonomy,” the committee will leave the final decision to the governing body of each sport. American life expectancy dropped The Centers for Disease Control has released numbers for life expectancy in the U.S.  Sadly, the government recorded another drop of over half a year from 2020 to 2021 for males and females, reports Forbes.  Males now average 73.5 years, down from 76.3 years in 2019. That's a three-year loss in two years.    Females have dropped off from 81.4  to 79.3. That's a 2.1-year loss in two  years. Moses' estimate for longevity from Psalm 90:10-12 will not need to be adjusted much after 3,400 years of human history — despite medical improvements. He wrote, “The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Canadian scientists discovered two more of God's minerals And finally, scientists from the University of Alberta have discovered two more minerals God created, in a meteorite that dropped on Somalia — discovered in 2020. The 15-ton meteorite is the ninth largest found on Earth. The researchers have named the newly discovered minerals Elaliite and Elkinstantonite. There are about 2,000 known minerals on Earth.  Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Tuesday, December 27th in the year of our Lord 2022. Subscribe by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com. Last night, I was able to chat with Eryk Bagshaw of The Sydney Morning Herald for a few minutes about the trade tensions between Australia and China. Here are a few of the stories Eryk has published on the topic:Farmers back Australia taking China to WTO over barleyAustralia to take China to the WTO over barley tariffs'Bad outcome': Australia to use coal strike to challenge China on emissions'Unacceptable': Australia accuses China of diplomacy by media over coal banAustralian coal blocked indefinitely by BeijingOne has to ask, "What is the endgame?"China is not Thanos. It will take more than a snap to get what it wants. Whatever that might be.Yes, Australia dared to ask a question about the origins of COVID-19, but compared to what Trump was throwing out there, it was pretty benign. Unless, of course, you want the world to bow to you. In that case, questioning anything can and will be used against you. China, economically speaking, has the power to put the Aussies in a tough spot. Not only did they stop buying barley and coal from our friends down under, but they have also kept buying the Aussies' top export, iron ore. As Eryk points out, there is nowhere else to send the iron ore. So, the Aussies can't bring in a new buyer to take it off their hands. They have to take what China is giving them and not giving them all simultaneously. Australia exports by nation 2019While there is nowhere else for Australia to send their iron, for now, maybe they could put pressure on China with price increases. China iron imports by country:Australia needs the Chinese to buy their iron, but China also needs Australia to export it to them. Top iron ore exporters by nationIt seems impossible for China to be able to find enough suppliers to replace what Australia provides at the moment. Of course, this is easy to type, but the real-world implications of raising the prices are much more nuanced. However, if Australia wants to put some pressure on the Chinese, they might have an angle. It would be risky, and I think it is unlikely, but something to consider. Regardless, we are still left with the question of what is China's endgame? Is it simply to get the Aussies to bend the knee and kiss the ring? Are they trying to drive a wedge between Australia and some of its allies? Something else? Whatever it is, they do have the upper hand today, but that could change. Australia is a market-driven economy, and if China does not prove to be a stable buyer of its goods then those markets could wither and go away. In this case, maybe Australia reshapes its economy and leaves behind the export items that China needs. If so, that is a large price to pay just to prevent someone from putting a Winnie the Pooh picture up. Things move slower than the news, it is just as likely that all is well in a few months. I still would think this will leave a bitter taste in the Aussies' mouth for some time. US Nuclear Weapons Agency Breached As Part Of Massive Cyberattack: ReportThe Energy Department and National Nuclear Security Administration, which maintains the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, have evidence that hackers accessed their networks as part of an extensive espionage operation that has affected at least half a dozen federal agencies, officials directly familiar with the matter said.On Thursday, DOE and NNSA officials began coordinating notifications about the breach to their congressional oversight bodies after being briefed by Rocky Campione, the chief information officer at DOE.They found suspicious activity in networks belonging to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Sandia and Los Alamos national laboratories in New Mexico and Washington, the Office of Secure Transportation at NNSA, and the Richland Field Office of the DOE.The hackers have been able to do more damage at FERC than the other agencies, and officials there have evidence of highly malicious activity, the officials said, but did not elaborate. The officials said that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, which has been helping to manage the federal response to the broad hacking campaign, indicated to FERC this week that CISA was overwhelmed and might not be able to allocate the necessary resources to respond. DOE will therefore be allocating extra resources to FERC to help investigate the hack, even though FERC is a semi-autonomous agency, the officials said.Nigerian military rescues 344 kidnapped schoolboysThe Nigerian military rescued 344 of the boys who were kidnapped during an attack on the Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina state last week, according to Abdu Labaran, a spokesman for Katsina Gov. Aminu Bello Masari.Masari told CNN that children in a video released earlier Thursday that included the logo of the Boko Haram militant group were the same students who were kidnapped.A large group of men armed with AK-47s overwhelmed security at the school before marching more than 300 students into the forest.Boko Haram has previously attacked residents in the northeastern part of Nigeria and experts say the kidnapping marks a significant spread for the militant organization.Masari, however, denied that Boko Haram was involved in the kidnappings, instead blaming them on "local bandits." Masari also suggested that a voice in the video claiming to be Abubakar Shekau, a leader of one of Boko Haram's factions, was actually a bandit "mimicking" his voice.Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari welcomed the release of the children and described their safe return as "a big relief to their families, the entire country and international community," spokesman Garba Shenu wrote on Twitter. All of Sydney urged to be on 'high alert' as Northern Beaches coronavirus cluster swells to 28A cluster of coronavirus cases in Sydney's Northern Beaches area has ballooned to 28 confirmed infections as state and territory leaders move to impose travel restrictions a week before Christmas. Health authorities said genomic testing had confirmed the virus entered Australia from overseas, but health authorities had so far been unable to determine how it spread to the community. It is believed eight people were infected at a "significant seeding event" at Avalon Beach RSL on 11 December, with the first two cases detected on Wednesday. A further 16 of the confirmed cases visited Avalon Bowlo on 13 December, including two people who attended both events. Two additional cases were announced on Thursday before the cluster grew to 17 on that night.NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Friday told reporters some of the confirmed cases were not residents of the Northern Beaches, warning of potential seeding throughout greater Sydney."Everybody in greater Sydney needs to be on high alert," she said. "I know that there are a lot of Christmas parties on at this time, a lot of social gatherings. Please consider what is essential."China puts tanks to the test in a mock street battle for TaiwanThe People's Liberation Army would deploy two of its main battle tanks in street combat in a possible war against Taiwan, according to mainland Chinese state television reporting on a recent military exercise. In a documentary aired by CCTV last week, Type 96A main battle tanks and Type 04 infantry fighting vehicles were shown engaged in a mock combat exercise. The weapons were designed to fight in the complex terrain of Taiwan's cities and counties, highlighting the PLA's belief that a street battle would be inevitable once troops landed on the self-ruled island.Beijing regards Taiwan as a breakaway province that must eventually be reunited with the mainland – by force if necessary. This remains a key goal for the PLA and was the focus of the drill. The exercise involved a combat brigade from the PLA's 72nd Group Army based in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, and overseen by the Eastern Theatre Command.According to the report, 230 troops equipped with 30 tanks formed a red team to represent the PLA trying to attack a city complex defended by a blue team of 70 soldiers and six tanks. With cover from the tanks and amphibious vehicles, the red army seized the city in just under three hours after removing landmines, roadblocks and other obstacles posed by the drill's blue army, the report said. The exercise is a typical drill simulating conflict between the PLA and its Taiwanese counterpart, with the mock Taiwanese team appearing to take the geographical advantage only to be hampered by weak firepower and troops. The CCTV report said the drill aimed to help soldiers in the mechanised armoured infantry brigade lose "some bad habits" left by traditional mountain warfare training.

Tech In Africa - Meet the Founders Podcast

TechInAfrica – Africa’s largest economy agreed to join a broad free trade agreement aimed at stimulating manufacturing industry across the continent. Eritrea is therefore the only African country not to be part of the trading bloc. Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari signed this historic agreement at the African Union (AU) summit in Niger few hours ago. The agreement should stimulate regional trade and allow companies to develop and enter new markets. Manufacturing currently accounts for only about 10 per cent of the African Union’s combined GDP of $3.4 trillion, and the trade agreement could make this sector more competitive and productive. Initially, Nigeria feared that by exposing its manufacturers to increased competition, the agreement would lead to the bankruptcy of some of them and increase unemployment. But after reviewing an impact assessment of the trade agreement in June, Buhari agreed to join the free trade area. With Nigeria’s accession, AfCFTA’s dream of increasing intra-African trade, which is currently lagging behind the volume of trade the continent does with Europe, is now closer. Now that AfCFTA can offer access to the huge Nigerian market, they are in a much better position to negotiate with regional bodies in other parts of the world. But why was Eritrea excluded?Eritrea did not participate in the negotiations because of its conflict with Ethiopia, according to AU Commission Trade and Industry Commissioner Albert Muchanga. He added that now the two countries are at peace and that Eritrea has asked the AU to reach an agreement with them. They might be joining the agreement in the coming months.Source: BBC NewsFOR MORE: www.techinafrica.comSupport the show (http://www.techinafrica.com)

Microsoft certainly got millions of people excited a while ago when they announced that their latest version of Windows would be free. However, Windows users in most of Africa have begun to balk at the "not-so-free" implications of this recent innovation-- which by the way, is essentially a compulsory upgrade. Internet access is still relatively limited in most parts of the continent, and there's plenty of data showing that most people primarily connect to the web via mobile networks which deliver data at a premium. In this week's discussion, Tefo Mohapi and Andile Masuku talk about how it appears tech companies like Microsoft seem unmoved by how forced software upgrades will negatively impact African consumers who must pay dearly for the privilege of staying up to date. Also in this episode of the African Tech Round-up-- all the week's biggest digital, tech and innovation news: -- Find out why two of Vodafone's biggest subsidiaries in Africa are in hot water for two very different reasons, -- Discover how the Hacking Team security breach has inspired advocacy group Paradigm Initiative Nigeria to write a strong letter to Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, -- Learn how South African JSE-listed giant Naspers is plotting to pre-empt Netflix's imminent entry into the South African market with a video on demand service of its own, -- Get the low-low on which South African travel crowdfunding startup is calling it a day, and -- Hear all about how the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Africa project is desperately seeking data scientists.
